[Q] What is contained on the motherboard? - HTC One S

My phone basically took a dump a couple weeks ago. It was stock and unrooted and got stuck in a boot loop. Everthing I have tried including installing custom roms and installing a ruu has been unable to fix the problem. Phone will not boot into a recovery or preform a factory reset, the only option from the bootloader that works is fastboot. The fact I unlocked the boatloader trying to fix the problem means htc won't cover it under warranty.
My problem appears to be software related but any software fix I try has no effect so I'm thinking it's more related to a hardware fault stopping it from booting.
I'm wondering how much of the phone is included in the motherboard? I'm assuming the. CPU, ram and storage is built into the motherboard? If I was to buy a cheap banged up functional one s from eBay with a broken screen or whatnot would changing the motherboard be the ultimate repair?
My phone is only a month old and is in mint condition other then the booting problem. I'm kind of hesitant to give up on it and just buy a new phone as I'd hate to have such an expensive paper weight. If I can fix it for a decent amount I'd prefer to do that...

Only a month old? Does it not have a warranty?

Have you tried a factory reset in HBOOT?
I think the camera is also on the motherboard, not sure though

Did u try to relock bootloader then use RUU? Coz unlocked bootloader will ignore the RUU.
Good luck!

Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2

Htc won't cover it because the bootloader was unlocked.
Yes I've tried a ruu and it installs fine but doesn't fix the problem. I ended up selling it for parts and my new one s is in the mail. I found a bnib one s for $250 so it's not a huge loss. The original phone I bought new off Craigslist minus the price I got for selling my broken one for parts and then adding the new phone I'm still below the retail price so I guess I'm technically coming out on too. Here's hoping this one doesn't take a dump...

Just to let you know a lot of people are buyine the 1s new with a "relocked" bootloader so if you can get everything back to stock with a relocked relocked bootloader you shouldn't have trouble. Don't ask me why some ship new with a relocked bootloader but I've read it in a few places and its a mystery to me.

[Q] Fried eMMc chip, factory reset

Hello,
I'm one of those "lucky" guys that just fried eMMc chip. I just wanted to know, if there is a way to revert the phone back to the factory state or I'm completely lost and have to admit that I S-OFFed and rooted the phone and hence losing the warranty return.
Thanks for any help.
my brother also had this problem and his phone had root as well. We just sent it without the battery and got the phone back brand new. Took out the SD card too incase HTC wanted to show some dedication to finding out if it was rooted
Let's see what other people recommend

But the problem is, that it's S-OFFed with alpharev tool(can be seen on bootloader), and it also has their own HBOOT(i think it's 6.98.1002)

Tampered without htcdev

I just booted into the bootloader just for curiosity and it says locked and tampered. However I have never unlocked my bootloader and have not tampered with it. I thought that it only says tampered if you unlock the bootloader. Anyone else noticed this?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
so did I
where did you buy it
any chance of buying a returned one
I bought it at tmobile on launch day so I don't think it is returned.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Tampered means non-official software such as root. Unlocking the bootloader does not cause it to say tampered.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
I don't have root. This is how my phone came from tmobile. Can anyone else that has not unlocked there bootloader or rooted their phone check to see if your phone says tampered?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
If a stock rom is flashed you won't have root but it will still say tampered on the hboot,
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
Yes but I have not flashed anything. this is how it came from tmobile. Do you think my phone was messed with before I bought it?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
If you havent touched it, Meaning you havent flashed a recovery nor a ROM or root.. and your phone is 100%stock...
I would send it back, and say wtf is this ? lol, Or if you are going to mod it eventually, leave it as it is.. root it and flash a custom ROM now
Yeah I do plan on rooting eventually but it makes me a little curious as to why the hell it says this when I have not messed with it at all. It makes me wonder who has? Now if I go to take it back tmobile will think I did it.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
they could do, but its obvious you havent because the bootloader is locked, you cant flash stuff with a locked bootloader.. If they do ask questions, act dumb
'wtf is bootloader ?' 'wtf is htcdev?' you should be fine, You've only just got the phone..
Yeah that is true. I will probably exchange it tomorrow. There is probably nothing wrong with it but it kinda gives me a funny feeling because it already says tampered. Like I said I plan to root but it makes me wonder if anyone else bought a phone like this.

The phone should not come like that!
It appears that you have been sold a refurbished phone as new. In the UK that is illegal! I don't know where you are, but would think that it would also be illegal wherever you live. I would certainly return it. Rather than plead ignorance, I would say that you googled the 'tampered' issue and know that it means the phone does not have stock software installed. Kick up a real stink and ask for compensation - get them to give you a free case or something for it.....?

I agree that it should not cause it to say tampered, However I also attempted the unlock with the purpose to root and it came back with tampered. This caused the boot-loader to lock and now I have a soft-brick. Now I cant flash anything. Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I am able to re-lock it but still shows tampered and the boot-loader locked up.
If you flash something it will always say tampered even if you relock the bootloader.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
got mine tonite, no tampered, even after unlocking bootloader--
Are you sure? Got a screenshot of the bootloader?
Maybe you got delivered a ENG HBOOT device by some weird chance or something. That would help devs temendously.
Cause I have not yet heard of a properly unlocked device that does not say tampered. To the contrary, everyone left and right is trying hard to get rid of it...
not even sure how to do screenshot,
It may only say tampered when you relock it if I am not mistaken. I have a rezound that did not say tampered but just unlocked because I had yet to relock boot loader (I eventually switched to an eng boot loader). As for the op, I would return the phone because it is quite possible someone unlocked it to play around with it wherever you bought it from. What they did could cause problems down the line, not of your own doing.

Getting a replacement at one of AT&T's "repair shops"

I was just on the phone with a rep because of a spot on the screen that came from the factory. I was going to get a replacement over the phone but she advised me to go into one of these AT&T repair shops to get it checked out so I dont get charged if the warranty dept. decides the damage was my fault (which it wasnt)
So, are they going to somehow go into my settings and see that my phone is rooted and I flashed a ROM?
Should I just play it safe and do a factory reset?
Also, if I do a factory reset, will that remove clockwork mod? I want to do a backup before restoring so I can go into the shop without worrying about anything.

Will they also know if I did a replacement through the phone?
As far as I know AT&T's device centers don't have the HOX yet and if your bootloader was to be unlocked odds are they wouldn't care lol. They'll replace a phone out of warranty also do repairs to phones without charging.. they're an odd bunch.

Factory reset won't affect your recovery (clockworkmod) and honestly, as long as you have a sense rom, they won't know the difference. they won't reboot the phone into the bootloader to check. I can almost guarantee this. If you show them your screen, they should only need to glance at it to tell that something is wrong with the screen and no further investigation necessary. You are golden in my opinion.
I did this with a dead pixel and I was rooted with bootloader unlocked running a custom launcher (so it didn't even look like sense)

Just relock your bootloader and ruu to 1.85. It's the safest way to go. It'll still say relocked but you'll be stock at least. If you have supercid then you have nothing to worry about. When you get your phone back just unlock again.

[Help] Is My Sensation Permanently Bricked?

I did a bad, bad thing. I thought I understood the process much better than I actually did and quickly found myself in over my head. Now I'm worried that I have a permanently bricked, very expensive paperweight on my hands. Is there any hope for recovering my Sensation?
My goal was to install CM9.
These are the steps that led to this problem:
Did the HTC Dev Unlock through the HTC website.
I used the KGS Utility v6.6 to root the device. The script told me it was successful, but I opened a terminal on the phone and couldn't tell if I had root priveleges.
Tried Juopunutbear to S-Off, but the script said it couldn't find device. “Connect Device and Install Drivers.”
Stupidly following directions I found online, I used the One X All In One Kit v1.0. I thought this was specifically for the Sensation at the time. I hit the button to flash the kernal and that's where my troubles begin. Couldn't get past HTC loading screen.
Power Button + Down volume to get into boot loader, instead. “Recovery” and “Factory Setting” in Fastboot wouldn't load anything at all.
Tried using Fastboot in a command line. I attempted to install a recovery image, but it wouldn't take. The bootloader was in “relocked” mode.
An online thread I found said that you can't flash a recovery unless your bootloader is unlocked. I took the advice in that thread and told Fastboot to use the Unlock_code.bin file once again. The phone said it was about to unlock. Then it completely shut off.
The phone will not turn on, and I can't even get it to boot into recovery mode.
Is there any hope for me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thats a brick all right. You can always try the unbricking method by dexter in the dev section but for this specific case, dont get your hopes up because I dont think it will work but its worth a try.
If it doesnt work the only way to unbrick is to find someone who can JTAG it

One thing I will say about JTAG is dont do it yourself, it is too easy to get it wrong and besides the jtag box costs a lot of money so its cheaper to send it to someone who does it for buisness than to buy the hardware

First and foremost, contact HTC. They don't check bricked devices.
Also, it doesn't matter if you bought the phone used because the warranty is traced by the serial number of the device.
Contact them & say that the phone randomly switched off & never came back on.
If they find the device to be in warranty, which is most likely, then they will replace the mobo on the phone.
You shouldn't have any hardware modified on the phone & all the warranty stickers should be present.
Try using dexters HTC sensation unbrick tool, if that doesn't work then try looking for a jtagging service. If your from the UK then try fonefunshop.com

I used the HTC Dev Unlock tool through their website. I was under the impression that doing that voids your warranty? Does anyone happen to know?
Also, a question about JTAG-ing the phone. Does that process also restore the operating system or just get you into Hboot? Just curious if I'll end up with a fully functional phone through a JTAG service (in case HTC can't help).

I don't think you will have problems.. With htc-dev unlock... As it said it may void the warranty but not it Will void the warranty.. Also your issue seems like hardware side.. So hardware issues will not be voided even if you do htc-dev unlock afaik

JTAG forces the correct files onto the partitions of your phone however it wont do it for boot, system or data partitions because that would make the resurector dll enormous to download, as it is the resurecter is already over 15mb.
After JTAG then I would suggest flash an RUU or custom ROM immediately because after JTAG phone boots but is unstable.

JTAG will not solve any hardware faults & this seems like a hardware fault. Remember, once you try JTAG, warranty is void even if you had it before.
Talk to HTC support first. They will not check anything at all on the phone. If you don't try, it's your loss.
There's no need to mention anything about what happened. Just say it happened randomly.

Yes but the unlock token is still software, not hardware and from what I can gather the One X kernel thing is flashed to a different partition on the eMMC chip than a sensation kernel so this looks to me (I could be wrong if course) that a kernel was flashed to a partition containing other data which resulted in that data being erased/overwritten

[Q] Bricked Phone Help Please

I recently got the One X because I became to impatient for the One X+.
After flashing cm10 on it I decided to try and flash back to stock to see if i could return it to ATT because i was within 14 days.
I accidentally bricked my phone by deleting my system from the recovery and now I cant boot into recovery.
It turns on but goes as far as the "HTC quietly brilliant 'this build is for development purposes...'" screen and stops.
I can turn the phone off and on but it gets stuck at this screen.
I've tried button combos to get into recovery and I've tried adb and the one x tool kit.
I've also tried the recovery from the RUU OTA update but no dice.
Any way to fix this?

I wonder if att will even take back his phone because of the relocked status, why do you want the one x + so much? You just said you couldn't wait so you tampered with it and changed your mind, but I mean the one x + is only a second faster.. you can just overclock HTC one x anyways. 64gb plus better battery is enough for me to switch.
Also can the store employees actually tell if it was bootloader tampered? The last time I traded in my stock flashed Samsung Captivate for return all they did was a factory reset and took it back.
Though, better battery life is questionable.

They can just go into fastboot if they wanted to and just deny your return. I doubt they will do that. Although it would suck if the phone malfunctions on the next person and he returns it back to att and I guess that would be suspicious but I think your fine. I guess more space is nice on a phone but I don't think I have used that much space on my laptop haha, mabye 50 gigs of bloatware and some music and some fps games. I was just wondering why the switch. Oh and did the ruu go as planned? Oh and also if you decide to get insurance for your phone you should think about squaretrade...they protect against a lot..drops spills..and if you factory reset to stock Rom they will fix it even though you may have rooted..and they will pay you the no commitment price if they can't fix it.(drops, spills, etc)
Here in Los Angeles and surrounding cities the ATT reps are now trained to get into the boot loader to check for a tampered and unlocked device. A few months ago they were not but many devices have come back where someone screwed it up and returned it.

The RUU worked perfectly and I returned it with no hassle; they didn't even factory reset it in front of me.
I now have the One X+ and I'm glad i switched. It runs so well I don't think I'll need a custom rom for a while.
