[Q] how to flash new radio ? too many options.. - HTC Desire S

my radio is old and signal is weak in most areas, need to upgrade but there is too many radios and a few tutorials, one option is to flash it with terminal via usb here is the main thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178001
the second option is to flash it as you flash hboot by bootloader. thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312144
Q wich one is the right one ?
Q2 wich radio to use ? (i guess the latest from [RADIO] HTC Desire S Radios [PG88IMG.zip] (Updated: 21 Oct 2011) thread)
im using android 3.5 - HTC sense 3.0 - kernel 2.6.35.10 htc kernel - radio 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M - Hboot 7.00.1002 | Reengineered 2.00.002
tnx for your help !

There is no such thing as "old radio", and newer radio doesn't mean better signal.
Both of the options lead to exactly the same result and achieve exactly the same thing in exactly the same way, it's just that one is assuming you're knowledgeable enough to put the file on SD card yourself and the other doesn't assume even that.

[Q] Bell Canada RUU ROM?

Hey, this is my first post here guys, finally got a cell phone after going through school procrastinating the hassles and fun. Ended up getting the HTC Sensation from Bell Canada, because the Desire Z is now discontinued (September 2011).
What I want to know before I start following the noob's guide to S-OFF and root, is does anyone have an Original RUU ROM for my version?
HTC Sensation - Bell
Android 2.3.3
HTC Sense 3.0
Software 1.34.666.1
Kernel 2.6.35.10-ge52b0af
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 2 21:21:05 CST 2011
Baseband 10.46.9007.00U_10.12.9007.01_M3
Build 1.34.666.1 CL79935 release-keys
Browser Webkit/533.1
Model HTC-Z710a
I see many roms in the ROM list, 10.43, 10.42, 10.56, etc, but none for my 10.46.9007 baseband... Does that mean we're dealing with a new version here or has anyone had problems flashing it before?
There may not be one for your specific provider but the WWE unbranded editions will work fine if you need to run a RUU just make sure you do the Super CID part, and take a backup of your phone after installing CWM.
If you keep a backup of your stock bell software somewhere you can always restore then flash the stock recovery, from there if a OTA update comes up you can flash it and return to complete stock.
Thanks! I found how to do the ClockWorkMod backup, and it's saved in a safe location now. Thank you for letting me know that the unbranded editions will work fine in case of an emergency.
Oh and in case anyone is wondering, xl VipeR lx's guide to S-Off and root worked flawlessly with my Bell HTC Sensation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Nandroid doesn't back up the radio, in case you didn't know.
Download this to go back to 100% stock, radio and all:

[Q] Radio Version

I'm confused as to how to check the radio version. In Hboot my sensation tells me my radio is 10.14.9035.01. However under baseband its 10.15.9035.02_2
Can someone explain I'm seeing two different radios?
I am seeing the exact same thing with the same radio versions.
I checked my RIL and its the one for the older radio. So I may have my radio and RIL mismatched as well (depending on which Radio display I believe).
I found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422568

[Q] Matching RIL for 20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.110

Hello, I installed the (hopefully) newest firmware from this thread: [RADIO] [FIRMWARE] ICS firmware and radio from WWE RUU
Afterwards, I installed CM10 by nk111, which is running great, besides problems with the download speed on mobile network. The signal is great, as networkcoverage is as well. But the download, even on H (4G equivalent) is very, very slow.
The radio/baseband combination, which came with the new firmware, is: 20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.110
Does somebody know, if there is a matching RIL out there? Or are there different radios, which I could try? Maybe even the "old" GB radios?
I checked RIL on my phone manually, which is: HTC-RIL 4.0.0034HM
You can check it via adb (or terminal emulator) with
Code:
getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"
Did nobody else mess with these things? Which RIL/baseband combination are you using?

[Q] flakey data connection after cyanogenmod rom flash

So I finally took the jump and rooted my T-mobile Sensation 4G (including unlocking the bootloader, sim-unlock, S-OFF, root, SuperCID, did I forget anything??). Flashed Cyanogenmod 9.1. Have CWM ROM Manager installed, and Titanium backup.
It works MUCH better than the stock ROM, and I'm very happy with it, EXCEPT, the radio's data connection (very fast when working) stops working for hours at a time. There does not seem to be any trigger for this. The regular non-data connection (phone calls and texts) continues to work. The H by the signal strength indicator will flash on periodically, maybe every few to 10 seconds at best, but you never actually get a connection. (3D and E do not appear at all). The signal strength is full. This happens both at home and out.
I thought it might be the radio, and after looking into that, decided to flash some new firmware. Initially (after the rooting/update), it was reporting firmware (from fastboot getvar version-main) of 1.24.401.1. On the boot screen, it said Juopunutbear (I used that method to get S-off). It was reporting baseband of 11.69A...
So I flashed the 3.33 universal firmware, and used the GetRIL app to update the RIL. It now reported firmware 3.33.401.106 and baseband 11.76A...
But no difference in data connection - not working at all.
So I flashed the 3.32 stock TMO firmware, used GetRIL again to get the right RIL. Now reporting firmware 3.32.531.14 and baseband 11.69A again.
But again, no dice on the data connection.
Wifi connection works fine, so I use that when in range.
Other current info:
bootloader screen:
HBOOT 1.27.1100 (this went down from 1.27.1111 version, which I think the HTC bootloader unlock installed).
Radio 11.23.3504.07_M2
eMMC-boot
firmware version:
3.32.531.14
From the running phone itself:
Android version: 4.0.4
baseband: 11.69A.3504.00U_11.23.3504.07_M2
kernel: 3.0.36-g7290c7f
Cyanogenmod version: 9.1.0-pyramid
The one thing I have not tried is to flash a different ROM than the Cyanogen...worth trying (any recommendations?) or another other ideas of what might be going on?
thanks!

[Q] Sensation radio vodafone uk

Hi
I flashed my sensation to ARHD 6.8.2 when I got it last August. Recently I have had problems with 'no service' and 'no sim installed' so I flashed to ARHD 7.2 with SebastianFM kernal. I have found that when connected to web the 'no service' problem has gotten worse so I think I should maybe flash to the UK vodafone radio to see if that helps. I originally bought the phone in Spain. I think it was originally locked to Vodafone Spain but was unlocked when I got it.
I'm just not confident to work out what I should change. Do I need to flash the RUU and RIL? I'm not developer and a bit of a noob but I can follow instructions without problems. I did manage to root, S-OFF and flash a ROM so just need the right information which is where I am counting on you.
My CID is 11111111
Radio 11.24A.3504.31_M
My setup is
ARHD 7.2 XE
ICS 4.0.3 / SENSE 3.6
Kernal: 3.0.16-v1.5.2 SebastianFM #1
Build 3.33.401.154 CL391535
Browser version: WebKit/534.30
What is the correct 3.33.x build for Vodafone uk? Can I just flash that over what I have now without causing conflicts? Or do I need to flash a different radio?
Please help!
Thanks!

Hi,
I am not sure a RUU will help.
2 things you can try.
1. Lift off the back cover.
At the bottom of the phone there are 2 gold pins for the radio.
GENTLY lift them to make better contact.
2.Get a new sim card.

Hi
I already tried the pins approach and my sim card was new in January. Could the sim really be a problem only 3 months old??

Hi,
Go to the market and find the app called "Getril".
Run it, and see if there is a better radio/RIL combination for your phone.

Thanks for that tip on the app. I ran it and it says the RIL is unknown which is understandable as the ROM I have is only a few months on the market.
So no real step forward.
This morning when I switched on my phone after a full charge it was saying 'no service'. I rebooted it and it had service. Could that be the SIM or is it a hardware/software issue? Is there a way to debug the phone to see what is causing the signal loss?
I need to get this fixed as I need to be obtainable by phone as my wife is pregnant and going through some problems. If the phone is buggered then fine I will get a replacement but if it is a simple software issue that can be rectified then doing that is preferable.
Another thing I noticed...when I have no service and I switch to aircraft mode and then back again it says 'no sim installed' so that is without touching the sim nor removing the rear cover.
I think I read somewhere the 3.33.x build for vodafone uk is something like 3.33.161.x whereas I have the universal 3.33.401.x
What is the difference? Is it the branding?
What is DisH for vodafone UK for?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28316588&postcount=1111
Hi,
That disH is for GingerBread roms.
The difference in numbers is just a minor update.
Where did you get your current radio from?
Hi
I don't remember if I changed the radio when I first went to ARHD 6.7.2 or whether it came with the ROM (ARHD 7.2) or whether I have not changed the radio. I think it came with the custom ROM
Is it the correct radio?

Hi,
Your radio is not quite the latest.
Go to the radio/ril thread in the Dev section, by stempox
You can get the latest 11.29A version.
Read the instructions carefully.
I'm all up to date now. Thanks for your help everyone.
