[Q] RUU Battery? - HTC Sensation

Will the battery life time be better, if i flash the official RUU and turn the device S-ON?
I have got an anker battery.

no undervolt, no underclock means not so much battery life.

I think it will not be better. Probbably (a little?) worse.
The thing is, custom kernels have a lot of new features and can be customized to the optimum settings according to your usage. Thus perform better and longer.
See my sig for faux kernel, which I found was best for my needs.

If I might make a suggestion, have you tried a slight under volt on your CPU? This can also save quite a bit of battery life. You must start small with the under volt, then lower slowly to see how your device handles it. If no reboots and it's handling it well you can slowly lower the under volt. Only to what your device can handle. Then you will see a marked improvement in your battery life. You can do this in corporation with the new kernel you are trying. It will make a significant improvement for you. You can do this through CPU tuner or like application. Many people find this method greatly improves their battery life.... it is a viable option for a significant difference.

[Q] Kernel with best battery life

Hey guys, I recently flash cm rc1 and been running whatever kernel that came with it. My battery life has been worse compared to stock froyo 2.2. I'm a medium usage person so I was wondering what kernel is best for battery life and what setting are people running for setcpu to maximize they battery life. Thanks in advnace.
Great question. I would like to know this too.

It seems no matter what the kernel and no matter what the Tom, everyone has different outcomes on battery life... try some out and see what works for you..

Yes, it is amazing the difference in opinion on this subject. I easily get 16 hours of battery life with moderate to heavy usage, and 1.5 days with light usage. And I am using plain CM7 RC1, without any CPU/Battery apps. Trinity or Faux kernels reduce this considerably regardless of the OC/UV combos I have tried.
To make sure you are getting accurate results and to get best battery life make sure you calibrate the battery (there is an app for this, or can be done manually). This has proven to solve problems I've had where I only get about 8 hours battery life after changing Roms.
Faux's is the only custom kernel I've tried, and my battery life is unbelievable. It's almost doubled.

Advice please.

So ill admit.
I am an advanced and knowledgeable noob.
And I am very capable of soft bricking and fixing my own problems usually
But the only thing iI haven't learned.
Is kernel management.
I don't understand VERY WELL how to tweak setcpu
To extend battery life and maintain good performance.
I use profiles to underclock while screens off.
While battery is low, and while charging.
But I don't get what the voltages option menu is about...
So I was searching a "how to" tutorial on the process and terms and what not.
And found one that was as useless as an ass hole on an an elbow. (Kill bill joke)
Anyhelp?

Dont use setcpu...use nstools from market and it is free..
Nexus s custom kernel will usually will drain morr battery if you use profile..
If you want to get stability, good battery life,my advise is...flash custom kernel(ex. Matr1x) dont UV, use gov lazy or ondemand, minfreq 400mhz,maxfreq 1000.dont use profile..for now just disable deep idle...believe me..after 3 battery cycle.
You will get good battery life...
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
How do you enable deep idle? I thought that was a set by default thing?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Just use Matrix kernel and you wont have to worry a thing, definately gave me good battery life. Good luck

Profiles??

Does profiles/governors really do much of a difference on battery life ?? I tried all of them : ondemand,powersave,performance... But haven't seen a difference and also same thing for kernels i flashed alot of them but never felt the difference ??

Anyone??

Me either.
What difference are you talking about?
Difference in power or difference in battery saving/consumption
If so yeah there is difference in these two parameters with different governers

Im talking about battery consumption never seen a single difference no matter what kernel/ profiles/ governors i use lol

It really depends on your usage pattern, doesn't it? If you're going to be using your phone with the screen on all of the time, then I really doubt changing the profile will be making that much of a difference to your battery life. In any case, it's very difficult to accurately and objectively determine the impact a profile or kernel will make on your battery life. For example, I use my phone differently each day, so it's really hard to tell. I can roughly gauge if a kernel can give me better battery life, but it's very hard to say for sure. There is a difference since all those profiles control the CPU differently, but whether you can see a significant difference or not is up to you.

Same here. Most of the time my phone survives for two or even more days without recharging (ondemand profile) but there are days when it drains battery like there is no tomorrow (no network, using it for navigation...) so I guess it boils down to your usage patterns and what you are expecting from device.

I've found the same. If I'm constantly online or am playing games then I'll chew through the battery in a few hours. But on the other hand I've found that the battery will last 24 hours plus if I'm travelling and just listening to mp3's
Im just the kind of guy who use his phone more for multimedia no data nothing else music screen off 70 texts a day thats it and all these above usually takes 1h screen on time yet i always get home whit 40% whit phone unplugged for 8 hours but..
Im not complaining weekends i use my phone differently yet i never see a difference..

Battery Life test Results

I was pretty pleased with my results here, so I thought I'd share. This is done with both OC and UV and making use of the the 3500mah batt and with moderate/normal use.
I can get that on stock battery, you must play some games and leave your phone on full brightness at all times or something.

No, I play one game in particular, and I spend more time on the web on my phone than most people do on their computer. I could get that on a stock battery too, if I never actually used my phone Before the the changes I made, I was getting significantly less life. Especially with OC.
It looks like the moment you turn your screen on your battery life plummets.

Thats from Oc'ing to 1560 lol
It's more useful to post test results on a standard battery and standard voltages and clock speeds so others can compare. I've gotten 3 days on stock CM7 nightly before, it really depends on how much one uses their phone. The biggest clue to how a ROM or kernel affects battery is to look at the idle drain (maybe with data off too). It should be flat or with < 0.5%/hr drain.
Where'd you get the 3500 Mah battery you are using? I've been trying to find a decent maker for one.

Battery efficient ROM

Hi, going on a trip soon and need a ROM with good battery effiency. I'm now running InsertCoin Evolution 1.91 and the battery drains pretty quickly so I'm wondering: what's the best ROM regarding battery life time? Sensation XE btw.
Thanks
What kernel do you use?
Try bricked with badass belance, no GPU OC, if you want better battery life underclock to 1GHz it doesnt lag and got pretty decent battery life with it. Dont change screen off freq.
And i recommend you to undervolt, -50v is good, i use about -75 now and its pretty stable.
I used to get more than 20h with 1.56GHz max.
Edit: i use stock z710e battery which is 1520mAh

Thanks, will try that.
The kernel I'm using atm. is 3.0.30-Bricked.3.0-v1.1-g5a2b328shpå[email protected] ) null

Does someone mind posting the lowest values u can under volt to?

Depends on the phone. Some can push -75, some only -50. Just gotta try it and see.

Tbh i doubt it matters much how much you UV, i'm sure I read an article awhile ago that said uv actually didnt extend battery life at all

If you decrease the voltage needed for one freq, it means the cpu needs less power and it means more battery life
Use system tuner pro, its easy and safe

Well, it technically does, because less voltage means less current, both of those mean less power. (Literally, Current * Voltage = Power, fun fact). However, the increase in battery life is marginal at best, so it doesn't actually benefit.
Power ~ V^2 * f. Voltage has more effect than frequency, both have some effect.
Forget power equations, battery's are capacitors so lets use capacitor equations!
Rate of discharge is proportional to Q/R.
I=V/R so 1/R=I/V
Therefore rate of discharge is proportional to I/V. Ohms law states as one goes up so does the other.
So technically undervolting has no effect?!

Think about that for a minute, if that were the case, why do you think modern processors use lower and lower driving voltages? Your logic is flawed.
"Dynamic frequency scaling by itself is rarely worthwhile as a way to conserve switching power. Saving the most power requires dynamic voltage scaling too, because of the V2 component and the fact that modern CPUs are strongly optimized for low power idle states."

I use this one and its pretty efficient!!
[ROM][JUN.20][ICS][AOKP-CM9]HyperSensation-v2.8
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610209
I've been using paranoidandroid, and some opensensation versions before that, which all suffered from batterydrain. From what i've read that should be fixed now. What i've read is that in theory aosp could be more batteryefficient.
In addition, for aosp, there now is faux, tamcore, and showp's bricked, kernels available.
I used to use virtuous inquisition, its senseless and really great on battery! I think it's been the best battery efficient Rom by far in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I was thinking the exact same thing. If everything is proportional, and it is, then decreasing one variable (voltage) should decrease everything else.
I found the virtuous inquisition rom quite good if you ask me but it all depends on your usage as well no one can help if your using your phone like crazy
