My phone, which is my sole and only phone.. no backups.. and is required for a meeting tomorrow.. appears to have a bricked rom installation. This wouldn't usually be a problem but my volume keys have recently stopped working. I've tried taking the bought protector case off and using volume keys then, to no avail, I've taken off the exterior case on my phone and used the little stubs but it still doesn't respond and just boots straight to the bricked rom.
Any suggestions on how to get to my boot loader?
Kindest Regards,
Harry.

I know, I know. Windows 8 is not a favoured operating system, especially for my non-touch interface, but I really can't be bothered to change it
Back on Topic, should I download HTC Sync and let that get the drivers for me as it is the only option available?

Fastboot flash recovery "recovery".img where "recovery" stands for the numbers of the recovery in tools folder i believe.
Also if you run 2.3.4, recovery wil not stick after reboot unless you change something ( i believe the recovery.sh file), hope this helps!

i can flash the recovery fia ROMManager, and also can boot into it, but when i boot the phone into bootloader/fastboot mode i can't flash a new recovery, because when i hit enter after "fastboot" i get no output in cmd
If you don't get anything back on fastboot devices, then you either don't have the proper drivers installed, don't have the phone in fastboot mode, or don't have the phone connected via USB. Probably the first one.
Easiest way to get the fastboot drivers is to simply install PDA Net on your computer and follow the on screen prompts. It will automatically install the appropriate drivers for your device.

Did you install the "ADB Bootloader Interface" driver?
Did you boot the the phone into the bootloader before trying the fastboot command? (ie. UP + PWR)

One advice from a long time HTC customer ... get the device back to seller when you still have a chance and change it for something else, try to avoid HTC at all cost. If you stay with Sensation and HTC mark, i wish you strong nerves. Thats about all.
My sensation had been great thanks to the development here on xda! No complaints here.

if you have 4ext recovery installed enable smartflash from it and then install the rom again
otherwise flash the boot.img of the rom manually

Flashing the "boot.img"
Put the"boot.img" in your "C:\Android" (or wherever your adb and fastboot are located)
Shift right click in the white space on that folder
Select "Open command window here"
If you can boot into your phone, do the following
Type in: adb
Type in: adb devices (This will give you a list of devices attached to your computer, so if your phone is correctly attached it should show up.)
Type in: adb reboot-bootloader
If you cannot boot your phone, do the following
Code:
Disconnect your phone from your pc
Power off your phone
Remove the battery
Insert the battery back in
Turn on your phone while holding BOTH the POWER ON and VOLUME DOWN button
Connect your phone to your pc again
Your phone will (re)boot, wait until you see a white screen which says "FASTBOOT USB"
In the command windows on your pc, type in: "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Wait until it's done flashing
Type in: "fastboot reboot"

Hello all,
i have a htc sensation 4G S-off.
i broked its display, and while repairing it broken the volume key cable. now volume key not working.
i installed PACman rom 1.2 and wifi was not working.
as directed in that thread of PACman i installed beta version sultan kernel.
now its not booting, just getting the HTC splash screen and then again going off.
i tried it to connect via PC but no success , neither adb, nor fastboot, recognzing it connected.
you can go to bootloader the traditional way atleast?
remove battery --reinsert it -> hold power + volume down ..until you get to bootloader
then connect to PC (if conncected properly thge phone says FASTBOOT USB)
then you can atleast use fastboot
in the mean time from the zip of the PAC MAN rom you've installed ..extract the boot.img and copy it to your fastboot/adb folder
then type this command
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then reboot using this command
fastboot reboot
and next time find the proper kernel and flash it (be careful this time )

i tried 2-3 tools available for sensation before posting here, but none was able to detect the device.
i guess the issue in my case was only due to corrupt htc drivers and the broken volume key was just giving it a more confusion.
i also tried first repairing of the drivers but that doesnt helped me. then i tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and that solved out the issue.

Yeah I know about the tool
But inside it does the same way as I'm explaining
Btw the tool perfectly works when you can boot your phone fine and ofcourse it will cause troubles when you can't boot the phone fine
But that's not the case here .. This guy's case is pretty hard here.. He can't boot to bootloader manually and also he is stuck at splash screen (where there is 90% chance that adb won't work).. Luckily he fell in the 10% category

Hello Xda members, first of all I want to say that I DID search!!
My sensation XE has the following problems. When I plug it in the computer in Fastboot mode, It doesn't show "FASTBOOT USB". It only shows "FASTBOOT". So yeahh.. Thats one problem and the other is in 4EXT recovery that it can't mount the sd card.
I don't know if these two have to do something with each other or not. In all the years of flashing phones this never happend to me before.
Hope to hear something from you guys soon!

Try a different OS like Ubuntu or Windows 7.
Also, if you have 4ext, choose mount USB from 4ext options, and format your sd card with your computer.
Format everything on the phone via 4ext and try reinstalling your Rom.
Back up stuff as you see fit.
Happy to help.
