Random reboots - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

My wife and I both have the htc one x. We bought it online and had the old hboot. Right now we have the same set up as viper xl with beast mode kernel oc to 1.8... Her phone seems to reboot itself at least five times a day while I usually never encounter a reboot. So im wondering if u guys think it's hardware problem or what might cause it. She has deleted the latest apps that she downloaded and the problem still persist... Thank for the help

are you undervolted? try bringing your voltages up if so. also try bringing the overclock down a bit. just because your phone can run at 1.8 stable doesnt mean hers can, every CPU is different (unfortunately) . give that a try and report back. :good:
edit: a few users have reported running zip-align and fix permissions in TWRP/venom tweaks can fix reboot issues. id try messing with the voltages/OC first though

Try running the chip at default values (1.5GHz) and if problems persist try using the stock kernel. Every CPU/SoC is different and therefore can handle different values/clocks. Those would be my first troubleshooting tips because they're easy to change! Lemme know how those go before you try anything more difficult. Also please list your i/o scheduler and governor as well as voltage if possible. Good luck!

I didn't under volt her phone manually but possibly the rom under volt it. I'm going to dial back the over clock a little bit and try to dial back the voltage. I will also try to fix permissions and fix the zip. But what governor would buy recommend? Thank for your help.

intellidemand and SIO scheduler seems to be pretty popular around here. its what i use, perfect battery life / performance. but again, every phone is different so try a few out. are you just using venom tweaks to OC? check voltages under the CPU tab in tweaks.

I have mine on conservative and sio with values at 192-1350MHz for conserving my battery. However because you are checking for stability I would go with ondemand or intellidemand. Dial back the OC and go with default voltage, if you dial back the voltage that can make it unstable as well.

Yes I'm just using viper tweaks for the over clock. I'm wondering if I should use an app instead. I did revert the over clock back to 1.5 so we will see if that helps... The io schedule that we use is sio. The ones avaliable are noop, deadline, cfq, sio, and vr. I had her governor at intellidemand but changed it to lion heart cuz I thought maybe it would out less stress on the cpu... I also did fix permissions and sip aligned so ill keep u guys posted if this worked. Again thanks u guys for the help.

Your welcome! hit thanks if we helped you out. SIO is a good one to stick with. Also, I haven't found much difference between built-in and apps as long as your settings stick and run at boot. The apps will have more features but should do the same thing. :good:

agreed. i would say stick to venom tweaks (as joe said, if it sticks. it should though) . other apps like set cpu and kernel tuner seem to have trouble getting our min frequencies to stick. the one thing kernel tuner is good for is it gives you the ability to change both governors. as of right now your second core governor is probably set to badass with no way of changing other than kernel tuner. if you flash the zip in the post below itll make it so the governor setting you select in venom tweaks applies to BOTH governors. hopefully that makes sense? just figured id let you know, could possibly help with stability/performance. :good:

[Discussion][Q/A][INFO][25.6.12]Governers,OC,UC,I/O Schedulers,Kernel

So basically this is a general discussion or chit chatting for all of you about which governer is better ,best etc. I/O schedulers etc.
You can also ask question, queries about your current settings is it good and etc.
There are also three sections in this post too. Recommended settings by me, Tested ones. And also ones that I am testing. Those that I have tested have my remarks on them too
RECOMMENDED
Here are my recommended No-Frills CPU settings:
Max:1200
Min:300
Gov. InteractiveX(Gives a lot of performance boost and also battery friendly)
I/O: BFQ(Im now checking out other IO schedulers after found a good or better one i will update )(and also Because it fixes this issue.)
These are the setting that gives me the best/positive results on my unit. I do not OC as I see no obvious differences in speed as these settings are already more than good enough. And furthermore OC will decrease the life of the device so no point.
TESTED
I have tested these:
Max:1200
Min: 300
Gov: Smartassv2
IO: SIO
Remarks: I have tested these and I must say the performance and battery life was almost as good as those of the recommended settings These do perform almost the same as the recommended ones but battery wise is definitely an out for these if compared to the recommended one. I personally would still recommend and prefer those in the recommended section as both almost perform the same and this is more unbattery friendly.
TESTING
This are the settings that I am testing now:
Max: 1000
Min: 300
Gov: Conservative
IO: Noop
Remarks: So as usual, I will test and report back after about a week. As of now, performance wise, these really lose out to all the others that are present in this post. But battery wise its definitely a clear winner
SHORT VIDEO THAT I FOUND ON YOUTUBE

first i have to say that there are big differences in CPU-Tools... i got myself cpumaster, nofrills and finally setcpu... cpumaster made my phone laggy even with lionheartgovernors and stuff...nofrills has no support for different profiles...so i highly recommend invest the little mlney for the incredible setcpu. basically i use smartassV2 at 1000mhz min 300mhz with sio scheduler...and then much profiles like change to vr scheduler when playing videos or in call 600mhz max or at night when i sleel keep the phone at 300mhz max; )

Hi. I was just wondering... Do Kernel Govs and I/O selections match well with V6 Supercharger? Or is it better to supercharge with a stock kernel?
Sorry for the noob question. Im just concerned if its possible that all these mods im applying might be cancelling out each other at some point... Or worse might be contradicting each other too...

Nope they don't they do different things . Supercharger manages minfree values while governors and schedulers manage the CPU speed

In my opinion, this topic is kinda useless.
I know and i respect your effort, but these settings really depend on the user and how they use the device.
If i try the same settings and try it myself, i will probably have another opinion and other results.
Benchmarks mean nothing.
Also many other threads all over XDA were made to explain governors and I/O schedulers, and users can simply Google it and read, then chose what suits them.

Also, it doesn't matter if it's for our device or not, the topic give YOU the best results, others will probably have to test themselves, so i still see no point in this.

[Q] Governor and Clocking

Whenever I use the built-in Processor manager in CM9 (our CM9) and whenever I change the maximum MHz or the governor everything is fine. However when I'm using some apps such as browser it will soft boot in some times, not rarely but occasionally.
Is this normal? If it is then is SetCPU for Root Users worth buying to use for our phone (it looks very neat and has profiles too!)? If it is not then how will I manage my problem?
Would you point me to the "Processor manager" you are talking about? I didn't know CM9 had one!
Which build of CM9? Have you installed any other kernels or tweaks?
It is not normal in my experience with Team Acid / Hefe Kernel to have unexpected reboots.
What are you trying to manage with the app and when? That may impact the choice.
I use System Tuner (Pro) and find it does what I need. Then again, I don't change settings once I've got a kernel dialed in.

In "Settings" under "Performance", then go to "Processor". Once there you will see some settings pertaining to the processor.
Build R8, no tweaks or custom kernels.

It did for GB. Haven't tried it on ICS. Jeff mentioned System Tuner above and I couldn't agree with him more. It's the only app I use for setting OC/UV as well as I/O schedulers. Try the free version first. It does everything though. SO if you like it kick down for the paid version.
I have used setCPU since I bought it way back when. It works. Jeff's the man though I might have to switch just because lol.

Cedric's the man -- the author of System Tuner Pro. His support has been beyond expectations. I'm very picky about what I pay cash for. His pride in his products and quick, intelligent responses has more than earned the relatively small price that he asks for his "Pro" versions. Past that, he doesn't overly "cripple" his ad-supported versions.
I've never tried SetCPU, but I know many people have had great success with it.
Many of the "tweaks" are governor-specific. Most "reasonable" programs work through the exposed "sysfs" entries that allow one to read/set parameters of the kernel. In this case, the governor, governor parameters, and the voltage table.
I actually experience the same problem with the soft reboots after switching to CM9
So the answer is yes, set cpu will work for our ice cream sandwich phone?
Cause I will buy it now.
Seems to be working fine... For now, when I first tried to set clock settings at:
Min: 200 MHz
Max: 1200 MHz
Governor: SmartAssV2
I/O Scheduler: Deadline (Jeff what scheduler do you suggest? Or is Deadline fine?)
After these settings were put in effect, I went back to the home screen, the screen froze with a weird effect. I had to do a battery pull, rebooted phone and tried to reapply settings again. It worked and I'm going to report back if weird stuff happens.

I've stayed out of the scheduler fray as much as I can. From what I have read, there is a very significant difference between them when you have spinning disks. I've also read that the ones that work well for spinning disks aren't so good for flash media. I've heard that there is a new one in the works for mainline Linux (FIOPS), but it is far from production quality. Not clear how any of them interact with Samsung's umm, well, "unique" approach to managing flash -- we're neither an SSD nor a raw card for internal memory. I switch between deadline and noop with the phase of the moon, and haven't personally noticed an astounding difference between them. I couldn't tell you what I have set right now.

[HELP] CPU Frequencies

I can't seem to get my Min/Max CPU frequencies to stay locked in regardless of Governor or IO Scheduler I use. I can't figure out why ig s doing this. I've never had a problem before. I am running everything stock right now except cot Root and Custom recovery obviously. But other then that. The phone is stock rom/kernel.
Can someone help me figure this out. It keeps setting my min frequency at over 1Ghz, which I obviously want it to be able to drop down more then that so I can save battery life.
Any ideas?

do you have busybox installed? im sure that your cpu control app needs it. grab the busybox app by stericson, install it, open it, then install busybox. check if your cpu speed sticks. if it still doesnt, could just be mpdecision. then it would have to be disabled.
Yea I have busybox installed. Its always one of the first things I do. This isn't my first time modding a phone lol I've been modding phones since back when the Droid 2 Global first came out. Even started developing my first App and Custom ROM recently.
I use Jrummy's Busybox Pro app tho.

Mpdecision. I've seen that in FKU, I can't remember off the top of my head what that controls. I thought it had to do with thermal settings for the CPU
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It is mpdecision. Its supposed to make the launcher smoother.
Some kernels allow "stop mpdecision" from terminal.. or in chaos kernel, dev got mpdecision to pretty much boosting min frequency

I thought I had seen Mpdecision controls in the FKU app, but I musta been thinking of something else cause I can't seem to find it now. I just flashed Franco Kernel r32, and Now it seems to be keeping my Min/Max Freq locked to where I set them. So the issue seems to be fixed on its own.
I have the governor set to interactive and IO set to Row. Still learning about what IO scheduling does so I just keep that to whatever the kernel has it at by default.

Yes faux used to have mpdecision controlsw. I haven't used it or a while though
This isn't really a solution more just avoiding the problem on your current kernel, but if you want to do this I recommend Chaos kernel :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2551441 Comes with the NXT app that allows a lot of tweaks to the CPU, GPU, memory, and so on.

Thanks for the link, so far I got it working alright ever since I flash the latest Franco kernel. Got max set to 1958Mhz & Min @ 422Mhz with the voltage dropped by 25 from stock which at 1958Mhz, the voltage is 945mv. So yes everything is staying to where I set it now. If I have any issues again tho I will try the idea in the link.

[Q] New user to Cromi-X 5.4

First off thanks sdbags and everyone who helped make this awesome rom it really saved this tablet(tf700t) from the garbage can
As a first time user to rom flashing I do have a few questions and seeing as how the general is flooded I figured I'd make a new one in regards to the app Pimpmyrom.
If anyone can give me a hand I wanted to know if pimpmyrom is actually useful for anything on the Cromi-X rom? My battery life has always been crap and I can't seem to get it to work properly, at one point my Cooltool actually showed it skips percentages(91 jumps to 89) so I wanted to know if I were to use PMR what functions should I tick to get it to possibly save battery, currently using Ondemand governor with Row scheduler, also for anyone interested Volume+ works WAYYYYYY better than Nox or w/e was on the rom which I was surprised by. Also what should be avoided when working with PMR so as to avoid screen tearing and lags(managed to screw up and somehow ended up with screen tearing) as well as Entropy and if that setting should be changed(using Seeder or PMR) and if undervolting on the _that Kernel 1318 further would mess anything up?
Thanks sdbags and everyone again!

You can try pimpmyrom but I took the best bits anyway - so UV, OC/UC, kernel tweaks are all included.
Be careful as you can introduce a boot-loop if you don't know what you are doing.
I'd rather you use something like trickstermod off the store.

Also my Governor is Ondemand and my i/o scheduler is Row should I change any of that? Is smartassv2 better and if I flashed it would it work on Cromi? What about SIO? sorry for all the questions just simple yes and no's is all I need except for the undervolting thing(-25,-50 or some value thats best) I haven't gotten any boot loops yet thankfully and I've always had a nandroid to be safe!

I'm sure I put UV options in the installer. You can always drop -25 and test it using trickster. That doesn't support sio or smartass although I was happy with ondemamd and row. Hunds does support those though. Reinstall over the top and try different options. You won't lose anything by dirty flashing. You can also use the kernel installer.
Good luck!

[Kernel][DEV aboot ONLY] Nougat kernels [kltevzw]

Hi everybody!
I'm new to the Verizon S5, but I followed the great bootloader unlocking thread and decided to make some custom roms and kernels. So, this is my kernel thread.
I've been building for the S4 and the Note Edge, so I hope you don't mind if I step in here. I'm not trying to step on anyone else's toes, and I hope you all don't mind another developer hanging around.
You can find all my work at https://github.com/alaskalinuxuser when I get a chance to get it uploaded. I live in Alaska and do have limited and slow internet, so please be patient.
See post #2 for Nougat kernels.
Nougat kernels:
Right now I only have one built:
AOKP 7.1.2 - Tested on a Verizon S5, this kernel can be flashed on any KLTE phone.

Ive been asking around about this , there was a thread that ported a backtrack/kali for the s5 and that kernel had the feature of controling the tx and rx of the phone, i dont know if you could include those commits in yours as well for LOS and also if that could be applied to the tx and rx of the modem to boost reception of signal for 4G....that's if its possible.
Looking foward to the next updates.
@AlaskaLinuxUser hey, thank you for sharing your work and throwing new stuff out there for us to mess with. Much appreciated

Thanks! Next up is over clocking. I usually keep it light on the oc.

Quick update, new kernel, praise God, it even works!
Overclocked to 2533 MHz without increasing voltage.
I had to reset my cellular settings after flashing this, however, I am using my Verizon phone on an AT&T network through Straight Talk, so I'm not sure if that matters. But after a reset of the cell settings, data started working just fine for me.
My kernels tend to be more battery oriented than performance, but I like to overclock a little without increasing the voltage to get the most bang for the buck. Enjoy!

now since it overclocks maybe now you can attempt to undervolt it and the gpu to the bare minimum that it will allow without it freezing and rebooting ( even better battery life) , on the other kernels ive tried i was able to get it to stay at a -125mv but had to bring the cpu frequency down to 1400'S or 1200's some users said that -100 at stock frequency was stable so mayby for your kernel a -90mv with the overclock is def possible. sadly we still can undervolt or overclock the gpu as well
Actually, my plan is to add voltage control to the kernel, so you can adjust it to any level you want. I just finished adding that option to the Galaxy S4, including the GPU, and hope to do the same here.

Added @ktoonsez voltage control! Credit goes to him for the code. I just added it to the kernel.
You can control this in Kernel Adiutor, but remember, adjusting voltages can be dangerous and may alter the space time continuum of your phone.

Praise God, another kernel update!
Over clocked the GPU to 600 MHz ( a 4% gain ) without increasing voltage! Its been working great all day, but I don't play heavy graphics games, so a gamer should give it a go and let us know the results!

WOW!!! testing now , pretty much for me i play one game pretty much all day , so def will test now and report back if any issues occured during the time period.
also my question is , do you see any possibilities of gpu voltage control?
also do include the kcal v2 for the screen (rgb) calibration. to properly dim the blacks and pop up colors.
if you keep this up , seriously hands down your kernel will turn-out to be the best kernel for the S5 , especially since you are putting in new feaures that the other kernels don't have. I mean a gpu overclock , i dont think no other dev have accomplished that.

Well, actually @ktoonsez has a kernel that over clocked the GPU much higher than me. However, my focus is on over clocking without increasing voltage.
As for voltage control for the GPU, I hope so.
I will look into kcal v2? I was thinking of adding @faux123 fauxsound next.
Most of the work I do is piggy backed off of great work from people like ktoonsez, Faux123, and @javelinanddart, so I can't take much credit. Thanks for the kind words though!

actually yea Faux sound would be great as well.... ps. had a random reboot occured , the phone was just siting there charging , but noticed now that its stuck in a bootloop....not sure if its the kernel since its the first time that occued and the only change made was the kernel today.

Interesting. Could you pull a last kmsg if it happens again? Thanks.

So far it has not happened again but i will keep a close watch on it. but i highly think that its a rom related issue.
Trouble with FauxSound....
Just an update, I am working on the FauxSound mod, but something keeps going wrong. I end up with no sound. WIP.

Great question. I'm still having trouble with faux sound. I decided to table that for now and work on a few other improvements for the S5 instead.
