So a couple of days ago my girlfriend ask if I had gotten a pic she sent me I said no she tried again, Nothing, so i called sprint they asked me to pull my battery then updated prl with me on the phone and everything was cool, here a week later I'm having the same problem so instead of calling sprint AGAIN I'm here asking the real experts....any suggestions guys(gals) I haven't flashed anything in months or added any new apps only thing lately I've done is use my usb to transfer music to my phone

Nothing on your end . I was having the same issue about a week ago. Most likely it's the same thing. Turns out they were working on the Towers in my area. The signal was spotty as hell for the whole week. I missed SMS / MMS galore. But on the upside, now my signal is way better in my area. Plus my data speeds have gone way up. I was told to Update PRL /Profile. Which I did, although I did not see any change in the actual versions displayed for info. But that doesn't mean they did not change something on there end.

So, my wife bought this phone a couple of months ago, and for the most part she likes it. However, she does have problems with the phone loosing voice and/or data connections. She uses the Sprint Zone to check, and often times one or the other has failed. After the first time this happened, I spent a lot of time with sprint getting the phone refreshed. Eventually we returned it for another one, but are still having the same intermittent problem.
We have found out that putting the phone into airplane mode will reset the radios and it works again, but eventually we loose one or the other.
So, do others have this issue, and if so, what did you do to fix it? I looked around (albeit not as hard as I could have) but I haven't seen much on this....

yep, i have this happen sometimes, but haven't found any solution other than what you said: toggling airplane mode. and the issue seems to have persisted thru software updates.... although the latest official asa14 release seemed to be decent, the main problem i had was when switching from cdma/lte to cdma or vice versa, i would have to toggle airplane mode to get it to reconnect.
on the JB soak update, i've seen data seem to be connected, but no data will load at times.
I believe that its been stated that until official lte launch that the different signals will not handshake properly when switching towers, but that may not be your situation.

ok yeah, i believe the launch became official a week or so ago in my area, and the transition does seem to be seamless now.
another thing i see is the 3G icon and signal bars randomly turning white(instead of blue), and no data loading. but to be fair, that is on the JB beta test build..
Thanks for the input! I'm not sure if it's switching towers or not, I think there was at least one time that it was. Denver doesn't have LTE yet (supposedly, the Sprint Call Center in Centennial does, haven't confirmed or denied yet) so I can't test that. We'll be in KC next month, they do and I'm planning on checking it.
I'll keep an eye on it, and report back. Hopefully she gets JB soon... there's a lot of cool things with it I'm showing her she can't do.
I live in the chicago area and we got LTE a few months ago and I did have this issue for a while but as the rollout of the new equipment went along and more towers were updated i had it less and less. Dont seem to have it at all anymore.

I am on T-Mobile since April and everything has been fine except the known LTE handoff issue, I just keep the phone in UMTS always.
The night of Oct 28th I received an OTA (not a system update) and I guess it changed radio settings or updated the firmware. Ever since, NOTHING I do will get the phone to pick up ANY data signal on T-Mobile. Did Verizon decide to block the Maxx from use on other networks???
On wifi everything is fine, but I get no GSM data, no Edge, no 3G, no HSPA and no LTE. I can't receive any media text messages either.
Can anyone tell me what the hell happened?

Try a factory reset, and reset your APN to default, and re-enter the settings. As I stated in the other thread you posted in, update is working great for me, and Verizon can't lock the Maxx/Ultra/M to their network as part of the FCC's Block C agreement.

Ok, I did the factory data reset and and it's still the same.
One strange thing I noticed is that it will say 3G or 4GLTE in the status bar right next to the signal strength, but it's grayed out, and only present when wifi is turned on. As soon as I turn wifi off, the 3G or 4G logo disappears instantly.
It did this both before and after the reset. regardless, when I'm not on wifi I have ZERO access to data networks.
Phone worked great on tuesday, and now it's pretty much useless after Verizon update. How can I roll back to the previous firmware ?

I have a droid maxx on t mobile and i have had no problem using H+ instead of LTE for txting and data here in chicago...
but last night i accepted the XLTE (1FF-obake_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU5-23-release-keys.xml.zip) OTA and quickly realized that t mobile data no longer worked. I tried to revert back using RSD lite but that failed due to downgrade protection...i was thinking i would have to just flash a 4.4.4 gummyrom over stock and move on but then i remembered i had an old twrp backup of 1FF-obake_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU4.21-release-keys.xml.zip from earlier in september
you must have an unlocked bootloader and twrp installed to restore the backup but the restore was successful and bypassed the downgrade protection...gsm carrier data was once again working...
i will post a link to my twrp backup once it finishes uploading...and if anyone else has a 1FF-obake_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU4.21 stock twrp backup they could share that would also be a huge help
ps.youre only chance to unlock your bootloader is sunshine or stumproot or another on of jcases masterpieces if it wasnt already patched by this last XLTE update

Go inside the Droid Ultra Original Android Development and look for thread with [Radio] in the title. The latest that comes with VoLTE update was posted by CrazyRussianXDA (this is the one inside your phone now), previous versions were by Topsnake. Create a folder called fastboot and extract the files there. You must download the fastboot tool here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790, install it into the same fastboot folder. Just follow the simple steps and yes it is possible to do it on stock non-developer version. Just for precaution, do not copy and paste the command, type them in.
So I haven't changed a thing on the phone. This morning I re-entered the SAME APN info yet again with no luck.
Today around noon, while driving my phone suddenly starts getting emails and now seems to be working fine. Even the LTE handoff issue on T-Mobile seems to be gone.
I have no clue. . . but it works now!
I GREATLY appreciate everyone's help on this matter! Maybe an issue to watch out for in coming weeks ?

Yea I have it set to automatically select network now and it's sitting on my desk in LTE mode, yet I can pick up the phone and make a call no problem.
It used to always drop the first call and then if you redialed while it was in HSPA it would make the call.
Texting working fine too.
T-mobile had told me that they were having some data issues in my area, so I wonder if being halfway across the county today at lunch did something. The original problem was definitely something with the phone because if wifi was turned off, it wouldn't even display a G, E, 3G, or 4G logo. And with wifi on, the logo was grayed out and totally nonfunctional.
but maybe talking to another tower did something with the radio. . . . . . no idea really. Shooting in the dark here!

I just applied the upgrade. Ultra on T-Mobile. I have no data anymore. I can't even pull up a web page. I am able to call and text no problem. The strange thing is at the beginning of October I moved from Verizon to T-Mobile. Verizon sent me the Android upgrade. Hopefully this will resolve itself over time. I've tried rebooting the phone a couple of times and messing with the mobile settings...but nothing. Phone info app shows me it's registered to T-Mobile and the Signal Strength is around -110dBm. It shows me GSM Service as "In service" and the GPRS Service as "Connecting", Network type LTE, GSM disconnects:==========DATA========
(UPDATE) I called t-mobile support and they were excellent. Short and to the point they stepped me through adding the APN info, and data is now working again. Prior to the upgrade it was working without any APN info. The old problems I was having with SMS messages not being sent, and having to redial 2 or 3 times to place a call are gone. My Verizon Droid Ultra is now working perfectly on T-mobile. Just ran a speedtest on 2-3 bars with 4GLTE and I got 13Mbs down and 8Mbs up
i just picked up a maxx and EVERYTHING works. lte is crazy fast as well. latest update too...

yes tmobile data does work on 1FF-obakem_verizon-user-4.4.4-SU5-24 (23.3.24)
actually...the H+ LTE hand off is fixed along with any sms/mms issues

go to settings - more... - mobile networks - access point names - add new apn...

thats all you have to change...try to make a call/txt...reboot once...
4GLTE on the droid maxx on tmobile
I'm with the new Lollipop LRX13O roms.
Somehow, It's getting trouble in connecting T-mobile network. Wi-fi definitely works fine. But, it's struggling to find 2G/3G/LTE and just no bar, or sometime bars with no calls or data.
I already tried resetting APNs, and set the cellular network, but no luck here.
If anyone experiences the same problem, please let me know.

hrm I was afraid that this sort of thing could happen. Ah good old early adoption bugs and whatnot Seems to be a reoccurring theme of late with Android updates and cellular providers. Particularly T-mobile. I know it may seem like a dumb question but have you tried it in different areas ie different towers? how about reboot?
I'm on T-Mobile and I'm doing okay. You could try flashing a different radio and see if it works.
Should add I'll be updating mine as well. Currently on T-Mobile $30 plan. Just have to figure the best method forward yet. Most importantly is getting a good backup image(currently stock with locked bootloader).

Hopefully, this is just a problem only for me. I rebooted multiple times, and actually tried another Stock 5.0 rom, but having the same issue.
For last a couple of days, I didn't have a chance to go out from home, so didn't check from other areas, but tried different places near home though. And weirdly, my wife's Galaxy Note 3 has no problem at all in both call and data.

I re-flashed the LPX13D the Preview Radio, I believe that is the most recent radio. But still no luck. I'm kinda hesitating to flash the KK radio, maybe I should try it anyways.

Yeah I know how that goes. Its kind of amazing that these devices work as well as they do. There's so many things that can cause glitches. Best of luck to you!
Anyways about to take the same plunge myself and upgrade. Most likely going the factory fresh route since its a major revision. A chance to unlock my boot loader anyways. I'm sure however something will break, be incompatible, etc. Right now I'm most nervous about the hotspot functionality with T-mobile still working. On the $30 prepaid plan and with KitKat I had to disable IPv6 otherwise I always got the upsell page before I could use it. Even though I don't tether often its nice to have.
flashed a factory stock 5.0 zip yesterday. Came from Slimroms 8. Flash rom,new radio,elemental kernel and super su zip in that order. No problems with anything here. No connectivity issues, no /sdcard issues, no battery drain issues, nothing.
I need some help here, weird Verizon signal issue. So I got my U11 on Thursday the 22nd of June. I tested out the stock rom, all working fine, signal working fine too. Then I unlocked the bootloader, put twrp on in system RO mode, put magisk on, then put viperU 1.0.0 on. Viper/magisk and everything was working perfectly, I still had signal, could make and receive calls, send and get texts, wifi was all good, everything was good until Friday afternoon. I think it had to do with me trying to install the ota 1.1.0 viperU, but my signal dropped, still had 4g but that was touch n go. I tried to reinstall the ota because as far as my settings said and knew, I was still on 1.0.0 and when it checked for updates it found 1.1.0 again. After that 4g would work for a moment at boot then die, and there was no signal for calls/texts, that has the signal bars full with a slash through them. I tried fresh installing viperU 1.0.0, no change. I tried every combo in the test/advanced settings, changing the preferred network mode and ims settings, turn the radio off and back on and it would see verizon and try to connect, sometimes seemingly getting signal and changing the signal bars and getting 4g, then losing both. The status msgs on the advanced settings page would go back and forth as far as registered on the network, so I went to verizon and tried to get a new sim, the new sim didn't change anything, BUT a weird thing that happened is when the vzw rep went to the back to get me a new sim and activate it my U11 got signal, both 4g and call/text and I even got a msg, then it died again a moment later. So next I tried completely restoring and relocked my bootloader and installed the 1.11.617.4 RUU for my OCNWHL using htc_fastboot which it did perfectly fine, but still no signal. The bootloader says relocked(L) and software status: modified. Shouldn't it say official again since I flashed the RUU? I have tried reseating the sim and rebooting multiple times too. Oh and one more thing I noticed, my WiFi is touch and go now too, it'll say connected but websites fail to load, apps fail to download, etc until I turn off and back on my phone WiFi. Any ideas guys/gals on how to get my phone connected again? I just want to be able to use my new U11! Thanks in advanced!

All I can say is a lot of people are having problems with Verizon, me being one of them. I've had the phone almost 2 weeks and still can't get it working. I've talked to HTC and Verizon so many times and they say it's being worked on.
same here. Spent a couple days with near constant contact with Verizon trying to figure out out. Got in touch with HTC and it seems it may be a firmware issue. I can verify with no doubt that it's not the sim though. I've put mine back in my old phone, it worked. I put my daughters in my new phone, it failed to work. I even got a new sim for mine, but no luck. Multiple ROMs, multiple RUUs, and multiple factory resets, and wipes. All we can do is waiter, and pester the hell out of HTC to get them to hurry up.

It's so stupid that they don't even do testing before putting it on the market.
If either Verizon or HTC would come up with a simple software update to enable CDMA and all LTE bands, that would solve everything. The problem seems to be that Neither is putting much priority on it.
BTW: Since the U11 works with Sprint, it has the CDMA and LTE bands built in. They're just not set up to fully work with Verizon yet.

I'll reorder if this get straightened out. There are hundreds working just fine on VZW.

I was starting to lean towards firmware today because of the wifi going in and out. Seems like to get an app to download from play I have to search it, start the download, turn off wifi, turn it back on and then it'll download, yet updates download just fine. Fandango app won't load movies or anything. Etc. So I'm wondering if it's the system or radio...
stock U11 no issues on VZW
I took my sim out of my VZW line to test it out on my U11. I did some speed tests before I took it out. I inserted the VZW sim into the U11 and it booted up with no issues. Received LTE and ran speed tests and they were similar to the other device. There was VoLTE available and it was stable but I didn't make any calls with it. So just sharing my experience with my stock, Unlocked U11. I put the Tmo sim back in but it's good to know it'll work. It seems like some are having issues from the get go and some are having issues after modifying?

That's what's so screwy about it. On mine, I get WiFi flawlessly, and I even get mobile data, in 4g even. I just can't talk, or text. Before that, I could text, but no data, and couldn't talk. It's got to do with the way it's using the radios being screwy. The hardware functions, I've had full connection before, it lasted about 2 hours, and sounded amazing even.

Short answer: Yes. I noticed mine stopped after installing a ROM on it, but it was not the first one (test driving to see which I liked on it best). Others have the issue even with it locked still. I think the ROM flashing was more a circumstance than the cause in cases like mine. That's what's so screwy about it. On mine, I get WiFi flawlessly, and I even get mobile data, in 4g even. I just can't talk, or text. Before that, I could text, but no data, and couldn't talk. It's got to do with the way it's using the radios being screwy. The hardware functions, I've had full connection before, it lasted about 2 hours, and sounded amazing even.

Short answer: Yes. I noticed mine stopped after installing a ROM on it, but it was not the first one (test driving to see which I liked on it best). Others have the issue even with it locked still. I think the ROM flashing was more a circumstance than the cause in cases like mine. I remember an issue on Verizon and the M9 that after flashing a custom rom, you stood the chance of loosing VoLTE. It did not happen to everyone and did not happen all of the time. I flashed custom rom for months and then one day, boom, VoLTE gone. The only way to get it back was to get the phone replaced. RUU did not work to get it back. Sounds similar to what is going on now. So my question is has this problem affected anyone that has not unlocked the bootloader yet?
I just checked the M9 Verizon section and looks like they did find a fix without replacing the phone. But I think you need to be s-off. Interested if this could resolve any of these issues here.

If we get s-off we can probably safely flash roms without magisk n still have volte n even a more stable radio/system firmware, if dev's make it happen of course. Or am I wrong, I don't mind having magisk, I just want to be able to root n customize my phone with it still working as a phone n not a fancy calculator or wifi only device haha. I'm debating getting a replacement from HTC until the firmware stabilizes at least, then I'll mod some more. Cause mine was working perfectly fine until I tried to put viperu 1.1.0 Ota on it.
I just noticed that when I drag down and get the quick settings into view there's a note in the top left that says "the sim card is missing or not readable. Insert a sim card" and that doesn't go away even when the occasional notification that says "sim card inserted click here to finish setup" pops up.
Was fine for a couple days - now suddenly today only getting "roaming" service. Manually trying to connect to VZW fails and says my SIM isn't allowed access.

The full story is in the op of this thread, but it started about a day after I got the phone, started with only voice/text going out, then lte dropped too so now my phone is wifi only. R u on stock or have u unlocked ur bootloader?

Ah sorry, didnt notice you were OP. I have unlocked but was running stock OS with Magisk (no other mods, I just wanted root). Noticed that turning of VoLTE in phone settings killed connection, so I was able to toggle that off and on (+airplane mode in between) to usually resurrect connection. Now nothing is working. Going to do a full wipe now to see if it comes back.

No worries haha. My signal today is intermittent, I'll get bars but can't call because when I try 4g turns off. In the HTC test settings, when I have bars it sees Verizon network but not my phone number, where as when I don't have bars (bars with slash through them) it sees my number but not Verizon network. For u to see this menu type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. My VoLTE is activated in settings tho.
Factory wipe didn't help either. Doing RUU now. This is so ridiculous. Also I accidentally deleted my backup, oops. Le sigh. This thing will probably be going back. Sad. I was loving the phone.

Bruh - go in menu -> Phone Info -> Turn Off Radio
Select "LTE Only" Select "WCDMA/LTE"
Turn radio back on.
Fixed problem instantly!!! Thank you SO SO MUCH!
edit: MMS doesn't work, but SMS seems possibly ok? not sure.
edit 2: WCDMA/LTE is the magical answer. All seems working now.
