[Q] Data works, sms/calls won't send - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Last night i made a backup, did a full wipe, and flashed liquid smooth RC8 and the gapps package for it. when the phone rebooted, I was no longer able to send text or make calls, but 4G worked fine. So i restored back to my previous backup, and still had the same issue. I odin'd back to root_66 and I am still not able to send text/calls, but 4G is working fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? I bought the phone from a friend so I don't think I would be able to bring it back to verizon besides replacing it under warranty. Thanks

Can’t receive calls after flashing ROM

I am new to Android but I finally got tired of waiting for 2.2 so I went ahead and rooted my phone and flashed a custom ROM for the first time. I flashed Cognition v3.01. After I used Titanium Backup to restore my apps everything seemed to work fine, but I found out I cannot receive calls. I can call out and get voice mails, texting works fine, but when I receive a call it rings and then I get an error message - the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly -and I have to force close. What can I do to fix this problem? Thanks.

Well that depends on what is causing the issue. The most common cause is restoring data from your back ups. Mainly if you are going from 2.1 to 2.2. Best bet is to flash to stock and master clear, then reload rom and restore apps without data
I had this happen the first time I flashed perception 10.1. Flashed back to stock JI6, reflashed percep 10.1, then used TB to restore missing user apps+app data only. Calls work well now.

Reflashed and all is well. My problem was not having the correct version of Odin, the file in the tutorial was not working and the file that I found was not the one click Odin that I needed. Once I was able to do a master clear everything is fine.
Had the same problem after using TB to restore apps and data. What I did was to go into settings>privacy>factory reset. This fixed the problem without having to go back to stock and re-flash the rom and then restore the apps.

Can anyone confirm that this works? I'm very new to this process and don't want to ruin anything. A friend helped me flash the new Cognition, and I have the exact same problem. Everything works but incoming calls.

Can't speak to what retnuh said, but I had the exact same problem two days ago while flashing to Cognition 3.02 - I went back to stock firmware, did a masterclear, and made sure to just "restore missing apps + data" with TI backup (not all apps + data like I did the first time). I think that's where my problem was, perhaps you ran into the same thing.

Text and Calls not working after switching roms

I installed beanstown rom in clockwork recovery and everything was working fine. I then decided to try the latest synergy rom and everything worked great as well untill I realized that I could no longer respond to text messages. I did flash the text message bug fixer in clockwork ahead of time. I also noticed that I couldn't make any phone calls. I then restored my previous backup with beanstown rom and problem carried over.
Any ideas?

Go into your system settings ---> About Device ---> Status, and see if your IMEI number is a 0 or a whole bunch of numbers.

Odin back to stock unrooted, and see if that fixes your issue
Im downloading it now. I am away from home and using a slow hotel internet. This phone has some very large files compared to my old Droid X. I got about 40 mins to go on my download and in the meantime keep trying everything possible and trying to find someone else that had a similar issue.

And The stupid hotel internet keeps cutting off my internet so I have to start the download over again. Anybody have a working torrent for a odin back to stock file?

Okay so used odin with back to stock unrooted file and after it came up I could make a call but data was stuck at 1x with no 3g. I wiped data/factory reset and now I am not getting data, phone or text to work.
I have since tried to reseat the sim card and rebooted numerous times.
Anything else that might work? I can't find anyone else that had a similar problem online and am now thinking I gotta take my phone to the verizon store tomorrow and possibly get a new sim card.

[Q] At a loss, data but no voice/sms

I was running the latest stable version of CM10.1 on my GS3 and all was going well until someone sent me a text message and I tried to respond. I was greeted with the error of message not sent. I attempted to text someone else to have the same error. Attempting to call someone will just hang and eventually say call failed.
I thought it was a radio issue so attempted to flash different modems but had the same result. So I restored my previous rom Beans 11 that was working after wiping and the same issue. Data works perfect, but voice and text does not. I searched and odin'd back to stock VRLG1 and entered *2767*3855# in hopes of that fixing the problem, again no voice/text.
Any suggestions further help? I don't know what else to try!
*CM10.1 was working fine, and then calls/texting stopped but data continued to work without trouble.
*IMEI seems to be intact
*Flashed backup of known working rom and issue still persists
*Flashed back to VRLG1 and attempted *2767*3855# as per another post to no avail and this is where I sit.
Same thing. Installed jellybeans 12 now I can't call or text. Prior text was hit and miss some days....restored stock rooted image flashed other Roms....no help. Dialed the ** number....so screwed. Ayneegry should have backed up my few several times. No idea what to do.

When you say "Data" do you mean wifi or 3g/4g? If you have no phone/text/3g/4g then it's probably your imei. Check under phone settings, see if it's gone. If it's gone you gotta restore, do a search.
If you have 3g/4g then I don't know what the problem is. Sorry, just trying to help
Odin back to ICS and reprovision your phone by going into the dialer and typing *2767*3855#
rgrossie - data as in 3G/4G works no problem... phone showed IMEI still there but followed a thread to restore it anyway to make sure that wasn't the issue...
Edgehood -- I've tried that, and that's where I currently sit, stock ICS with 4G data but doing the re-provision doesn't seem to fix anything -- occasionally a text will slip through, but I'm unable to reply

I hear ya, if I can't figure out what's up, I'll end up having to go back to verizon and see what I can do... It was out of the blue, everything was working and then suddenly it just stopped. Happened on a flash that was a little over a day old, so who knows.
Check Mobile network
I have thiss problem happen occasionally when I flash custom roms. Look under your mobile networks, see if either CDMA/SIM is checked or NV. If NV is checked switch to CDMA/SIM and then reboot. That seems to fix that problem most of the time.
Edit: After some tests found out this doesn't always stick, but I did find out that after switching from NV to CDMA/SIM turn on airplane mode so the radios are tunred off, wait a few moments, then turn airplane mode off. That worked more consistently than restarting it.

Did you ever fix this? I currently have the same problem and have no idea what to do.
i had the same problem but a imei/efs restore fixed it. My imei was not missing but data worked and not calls or text. Changed sim and still same, even odined back to stock and unlockex and rooted no luck restored nandroid no luck. Then restored synergy imei/efs backup and good to go. Hope it helps.
Cruzin' tha Galaxy SIII via Obsessed Rom / "INAPPROPRIATE" Kernel
I had the same issue two days ago when I flashed to the latest MIUI Rom. Here's how I fixed it.
Go into settings, mobile networks, make sure subscription is set to SIM. After that open the phone, type *#*#4636#*#* make sure it's set to LTE/CDMA/AUTO
Reboot phone and all should be well.

If you Odin back to the original stock unroofed ROM, you'd have to take all the ota Verizon updates to vmf1. Then reset your phone.
Pain in the a$$ but has always worked for me. I had same problem running carbon.
I read in another post that Odin back to root66, them reset your phone would work too.

TWRP backups not recognized

Let me start by saying that I am not new to rooting and flashing firmware, its just been a while since I last did it. I've had a nexus 5 for a few months with sprint in the US. I continually have reception issues and dropped calls so I took the phone in to a store. Before I could do that I had to reset everything to stock. I had no trouble doing any of that. I made a complete backup of my ROM before I did all that using TWRP. I went to the store and they told me to turn off lte in order to reduce dropped calls. After the I got home I set to work re-rooting and unlocking my bootlaoder. However when I went to restore in TWRP it would not recognize the backup even though it had been made only a few hours before. I spent several hours trying to get TWRP to recognize the backup. Whenever I navigated to the directory containing the backup the directory was always empty. I even tried zipping the backup and flashing it but it did not work. Eventually I decided to cut my losses and move on. I plan on taking the phone back to sprint tomorrow because I still have horrible reception issues. I really want to avoid having to go through the whole ordeal again but I am not sure what I did wrong. The only thing I can think of is that immediately after making the backup I moved it off the device onto my laptop but did not modify it in any way. I had some experience with CWM back when I had my old HP touchpad but none with TWRP, however they don't seem that different. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you put your backups in the correct sub-directory?
Should be something like: TWRP/BACKUPS/87095jgjg9034/nameofyourbackup

Yes, I did. I even tried renaming the backup to "backup" and still had no luck.
Well, this is interesting. I went to Sprint today and they weren't much help but before I went there I reset everything back to stock. I made a backup yesterday and when I got home I put it on my phone and it was recognized immediately by TWRP and I was able to restore it. Not sure what I did wrong last time, if I did anything wrong at all.

Lost all Mobile Data connectivity

So a week ago I did a fresh install of Lollipop via the factory image for LRX21O, rooted it, and installed Franco's kernel #68. Everything worked great until yesterday as it seems I've lost all mobile data connectivity. I can still make phone calls and text messages, but data is a no go when mobile. So far here's what I tried:
Made sure the APN was Correct
Cycled Flight Mode
Cycled Power
Pulled & Re-Installed SIM Card
Cleared the Cache
Factory Reset
Re-flashed Stock Kernel
Flashed Android 4.4.4 Radio
Re-Flashed Lollipop Factory Image
Restored Previous known working install of Android 4.4.4 via TWRP
Made sure there were no billing issues with my carrier.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm especially concerned and convinced its not specifically a Lollipop problem (though that doesn't mean it didn't cause it) since it did not restore functionality when I flashed back KitKat. I've never used 3rd Party ROMs on this phone, only rooted stock. My carrier is SimpleMobile.

Maybe you need to contact your carrier?
You're not alone, I'm having the same problem since going to 5.0. I use Red Pocket on AT&T's network. Can't get mobile data working at all. Contacted Red Pocket and they reset my data on their end but still a no-go. Wi-Fi fine, calls and SMS fine. MMS, like data, doesn't work.
I guess I'll pick up another MVNO card to make sure it isn't still Red Pocket's issue. I have another SIM, but unfortunately my T-Mobile card, which is usually in a Lumia 1520, doesn't work for data on the Nexus 5 because that is on their blocked list of phones (stupid carriers).
