Hello everyone,
Since I started using the dock, I have noticed the separation between the glass and the body has increased. I am afraid it might get worse.
I am planning on sending it back for fixing this issue and also, request Asus to downgrade me back to ICS .26 bootloader on grounds of facing many issues with JB.
Before I speak to the US customer service, I was wondering has anyone succeeded in requesting Asus to downgrade them?
My main purpose is to get back the ability to use nvFlash. The device is still locked.
Thanks.
EDIT:
I had sent my device to Asus and they flashed my device back to 9.4.5.26.
I just finished taking nvFlash backup of my device.
If anyone wants nvFlash backup, then I suggest you request Asus to downgrade your bootloader.

I don't know about talking to customer service, but I just downgraded to ICS the other day so I could root my TF700. It's incredibly easy to downgrade it yourself. It doesn't mess with your warranty or anything.
Do explain...

Go to Pretoriano80's thread here to read the instructions or read below.
Go here to download 9.4.5.30 with the appropriate SKU.

*** Factory Restore after a softbrick/Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore ***
When You Need This?
* if you get stuck on Asus boot screen (the one with the spinning wheel)
* If you don't like JB and you want ICS back
* if you want to get back to a clean stock firmware
Note: You need to have a working recovery (stock or custom) in order to use this method.
========= Recover /Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore with stock recovery =========
1) Download the latest firmware from Asus site (based os your SKU,eg. ww 9.4.5.26 * to downgrade from Jelly Bean you need the 9.4.5.30 firmware)
2) Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3) Rename the extracted archive to "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP" (without the " ") and upload it to a MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and use this button combination to Power ON and go to recovery --> Start the tablet by pressing Volume Down and POWER togheter for 5 seconds ,a message will inform you that you have 5 seconds to enter the recovery, press Volume UP before the 5 seconds expire.
At this point the device will go in recovery and should start updating your firmware .
Note: Keep in mind that Windows doesn't show the known file extensions so most users don't have to put the .ZIP extension in the filename.
========= Recover /Downgrade from Jelly Bean to ICS/Clean Factory Restore with custom recovery =========
1) Download the latest firmware from Asus site (based os your SKU,eg. ww 9.4.5.26 * to downgrade from Jelly Bean you need the 9.4.5.30 firmware)
2) Extract the .zip file somewere on your desktop
3)Rename the file to something like "recover.zip" uploade it to the root of your MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and use this button combination to Power ON and go to recovery --> Start the tablet by pressing Volume Down and POWER togheter for 5 seconds ,a message will inform you that you have 5 seconds to enter the recovery, press Volume UP before the 5 seconds expire
5) From the recovery menu press Install and select the "recover.zip" file ...wait until the install process ends and then restart your device.

Thanks for the input. I want to downgrade to .26 bootloader. Using the above method, you can only go to ICS .30. However, nVFlash doesn't work on that.
My purpose is to get back the ability to use nVFlash and as of now, only Asus can downgrade your tablet to .26 ICS.

My mistake! Hopefully you get your request granted. I don't see why you wouldn't. The TF700 is very expensive.

Does anyone know if its possible to change the SKU and flash a different region without having to root the transformer first?
there's the NVFLASH method. check it out in the dev section. i'm not sure if anyone has made them, but you'll need a package compatible with nvflash to do it.
There is talk you can just rename the update file and flash it the regular way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103758
and http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_message/36244839#36244839
(use google to translate, if necessary)
I haven't tried it myself yet, still thinking about simply rooting and installing custom ROM. If you do try it, please post the results.
I am stuck with TB SKU (Belgium), where there is no 3.1 update yet, due to government regulations I suspect. Belgium also had to wait at least a month more for Android 2.1 update than the rest of Europe due to the someone needing to approve something to comply with some law.
It would still void your warranty cause your S/N in ASUS's database is a different SKU than the firmware installed on your tablet. Anyhow, you don't really need NVflash to flash to a different SKU firmware. Just download the 8.4.4.5 update for the SKU you want to go to, unzip the file. Inside ASUS/Update/, there should be another zip. rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and put it in the root of your MicroSD. Boot up your transformer holding "vol down", once you see prompt to press "vol up" to boot into rck blah blah, press "vol up", you should see some installation progress bar, wait for it to finish and you'll be on the SKU you want.
Thanks, though as much. I suppose it would be possible to re-flash the original TB SKU later on, but I don't think it is available at the moment. Maybe ASUS will release it later on their website, so restoring warranty would be an option.

Yeah, you'll need the TB FOTA to fall back to TB SKU or unroot for warranty.
I'm also on a Belgian firmware (SKU TB). It's 3.1 (8.4.4.5) in the mean time but it doesn't contain the Youtube app. (yeah, don't ask => ridiculous Belgian law )
I'd like to change it to a WW firmware instead.
Downloaded the latest one from the Asus web site. Extracted out the user update zip file from \ASUS\Update. Renamed it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and placed it on the root of the MicroSD.
When I boot into (stock) recovery by holding down volumn down, and pressing volume up when starting, I first get an animated android (lot's of gears turning inside of it) that ends in an Android with a triangular yellow warning (!) sign.
I guess they must have disabled this in the updated stock recovery
Are there any other ways to install a WW firmware?
Update:
I used NVFlash and the Stock WW 3.1 images as described here: http ://tabletroms.com/forums/showthread.php?1071-Asus-Transformer-NVFlash-Stock-3.1-Recovery-Roms
(sorry for breaking the link but the forum does not allow me to post external ones yet)

Hi-
I am getting a bit desperate so I was hoping someone could answer my question ASAP. I need to return my Infinity to Best Buy for a exchange because my headphone jack is broken . I called them and they said since the tablet was purchased less than 5 days ago they would just exchange it for another one. so I'm in a hurry to get this done. my only problem is that I have unlocked the device and installed a custom ROM. I do understand I cannot relock the device, so I am NOT asking for help about that.
My question is what ROM can I flash that would make my TF700 Infinity look stock again.
1) Please give me the name of a stock rom or a link since i can't seem to locate exactly what I'm looking for.
2) Please tell me how I can remove TWRP and replace it with the ASUS stock recovery.
Even if you can only help me with 1 of my 2 questions please reply ! I have helped so many people on xda .... please someone advise me :good:

I'm pretty sure that at most Best Buys, they don't check for stock OS (unless the person checking REALLY knows what he/she is doing). When I returned my Prime to Best Buy, they didn't even turn it on. I think it'd be very rare for the person at the customer support counter to know exactly how a stock TF700 looks like.
I personally am locked and stock, but from what I've read online CleanROM looks pretty stock. (others can comment on this, I've never used it before).
If you can't flash another rom, try reverting to the stock Launcher, or install another launcher that looks just like the stock one. If they check anything they will just check to see if it turns on, and check to see that your headphone jack is indeed broken. Although when I returned my Prime for a faulty camera they didn't even check it.
So I'd say it would be safe to just bring it up to the customer support counter with your receipt, and everything in the box and return it.

I've never been able to get this to work. Every time I just get a picture of a knocked over Android with an exclamation point. Any ideas?
(I've tried different SD cards)
Seconding on the Best Buy never checking, I Returned my Prime with Virtouse? and TWRP and even wiped the slate with twrp infront of them, then returned my First Infinity with Stock and TWRP unlocked, and did the same wipe infront of a different set, there pretty clueless.
What is up with the "hurry up" thing - Best Buy has a great exchange/return policy. There is no need to rush - you can exchange it anytime within 30 days,no questions asked... If you just bought it 5 days ago, you have *plenty* of time - time your time and revert to stock (using the procedure above).
Good luck!

Try renaming the extracted zip to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip instead of recovery.zip.
Hello great people of XDA,
I am a newbie to Android and XDA ecosystem. I am trying to summarize my situation below. Sorry if it is too long.
Goal for using tablet: My main purpose for using tablet is having a mobile device I can use both form my studies and my work. I will take notes via smthng like supernote, open word and excel documents and track my mails. All files will be kept in microsd, I just load apps and movies and music to internal storage.
I won’t use my tablet as a gaming machine. Of course I can play some games like chess or small games but not big ones. All I want is performance and smooth usage. A laggy device while surfing or taking notes makes me crazy.
My tablet is a 15 days old tablet but I want to root it, unlock it and install a custom rom. The device is running Android 4.1.1 (JB) with WW…….10.4.4.18_20121012 firmware. Here is my plan.
Phase 0 : Downgrade it
1. Download Eee Pad Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T Firmware: V9.4.5.30 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.0.3)
2. Unzip it
3. Rename it to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
4. Copy it to microsd card
5. Insert microsd
6. Power off
7. Press power on + volume down
8. See some small lines at left top
9. Press (only) volume up in 5 seconds
10. Hope the machine sees the file in the SD card and downgrade your device
Result : you have a machine with android 4.0.3
Phase 1 : Root it
1. Mark USB Debugging and Unknown sources
2. Load the drivers to computer
3. Connect the device
4. Run the rootdebugfs
5. Follow the instructions
6. Hope to be root
Result : you have a rooted machine with android 4.0.3
Phase 2 : Unlock it
1. Install GooManagerBeta via GooglePlay
2. Run GooManagerBeta
3. Install open recovery script
4. Machine reboots itself
5. Power off
6. Press power on + volume down
7. See some small lines at left top
8. Press (only) volume up in 5 seconds
9. TWRP (I dont know which version is installed via GooManagerBeta) should be opened
10. Backup your data to your external sd card if necessary
11. Wipe all data/cache
Result : you have a rooted/unlocked machine with android 4.0.3 with no warranty
Phase 3 : Install custom rom
1. Copy custom rom and gapps file to microSD
2. While TWRP is infron of us, choose install
3. Find your custom rom files
4. Flash to install
5. Find your gapps files
6. Flash to install
7. Hope to boot again
8. Hope to get enough performance
Result : you have a rooted/unlocked machine with custom rom with no warranty
Here are my questions
1. Is my flow correct?
2. Where is the real risk for hard or soft bricking? (I have no idea what is the difference)
3. I have not decided yet what to choose clearrom 2.3 or CM10? All I want is performance and smoothness
4. Does it worth to make all these things? Will I get a real performance and smoothness boost?
Thanks for your help…
Almost correct. Your phase 2 is missing the actual action of unlocking the tablet. What you're doing in the second phase, is actually installing a custom recovery. Before you can do that, you need to be unlocked.
You need to download the unlocking utility from Asus' website to unlock it. You can do this just before you start phase 2. Besides that, it's almost exactly what I did.
In my point of view you could forget about Phase 0
The things that you want to do are possible on JB

I would highly recommend CleanROM 2.3 - it's the fastest, smoothest ROM that I have ever used on the TF700 (and I've tried them all!). Plus, the developer is simply amazing in terms of support, etc. Being that it is a stock-based ROM, you will get to keep some very useful stuff, such as the keyboard dock battery level on the status bar and some useful apps that are only available in stock-based ROM's.
Then again, once you are unlocked, it's very easy to install different ROMs and try them for yourself - that's half of the fun of unlocking - getting to try different ROMs!
Good luck and have fun!

How can I be sure that GooManager is using TWRP not CWM? As I heard CMW is problematic with managers.
Once you open GooManager and press the "Install OpenRecoveryScript" button, it will tell you which recovery it will install, before it starts downloading and installing it. It is always TWRP.

I have used both TWRP and CWM and never had any problems with both.
I just like the simplicity of CWM though.
Maybe because thats the one that i encountered using first when i stepped into the wonderful world called ANDROID
Looking for better understanding
I too could use a better understanding of this. I am about 70% happy with my TF700. About 70% of the time it is fast enough and smooth enough. The other 30 it kind of crawls. This is especially noticeable when trying to navigate Netflix.
What exactly is CleanROM replacing? Do you get to keep all the built in apps? What about upgrading as new versions of Android are released or minor updates come out?
Is there a CleanROM info page or guide that explains it all?
Thanks for the information.
Scott
The CleanROM thread can be found in the Development part of the TF700T forum. It explains a lot of it.
You have the option of installing all the stock Asus apps, none of them, or whichever ones you want.
You can always go back to stock, should you wish it, but once you're unlocked you won't receive OTA updates anymore, you'll have to install them manually. The developer will most likely update the ROM as new versions of the stock becomes available, assuming it's a stock-based ROM (CleanROM is stock-based).

I downgraded to 4.0.3 ICS but rooting tool is working for 20 minutes is that normal? SHould I interrupt the process?
It shouldn't take that long. Have you followed the on-screen instructions? Maybe you forgot to press a key after the tablet rebooted?

I have succeed to install CleanRom 2.3 at the end. First impression, there is a performance and stability increase but not a dramatic one. I will continue with trying Clemsyn Kernel. If this does not bring expected perfromance, I will try Data2sd Mod.
Here is my actualized flow.
Phase 0 : Downgrade it
1. Download Eee Pad Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T Firmware: V9.4.5.30 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.0.3)
2. Unzip it
3. Format micro SD to FAT32 format (not a quick format) if it is not FAT32 already
4. Copy needed downgrade firmware to microSD without renaming
5. Insert micro SD to tablet
6. Tablet recognizes the downgrade update and ask for continue
7. Continue with the process
8. Tablet reboots
9. Tablet downgrades its OS to 4.0.3
Result : you have a machine with android 4.0.3
Phase 1 : Root it
1. Mark USB Debugging and Unknown sources
2. Load the drivers to computer
3. Connect the device
4. Run the rootdebugfs
5. Follow the instructions
6. It takes too much time to complete the action, but after 20 minutes or a little more I kill the process via CTRL+C and process interestingly continued and rooted my device.
Result : you have a rooted machine with android 4.0.3
Phase 2 : Unlock it
1. Install Asus Offical Unlocker
2. Follow the instructions
3. You have easily unlocked your device.
Result : you have a rooted/unlocked machine with android 4.0.3 with no warranty
Phase 3 : Install Custom Recovery
1. Install GooManager via GooglePlay
2. Run GooManager
3. Give root permisson
4. Install open recovery script
5. Machine reboots itself
6. Power off
7. Press power on + volume down
8. See some small lines at left top
9. Press (only) volume up in 5 seconds
10. TWRP (I dont know which version is installed via GooManagerBeta) should be opened
11. Backup your data to your external sd card if necessary
12. Wipe all data/cache (In TWRP Factory Reset Under Wipe Menu)
Result : you have a rooted/unlocked machine with android 4.0.3 with no warranty and custom recovery installed
Phase 4 : Install custom rom
1. Copy custom rom and gapps file to microSD
2. While TWRP is infron of us, choose install
3. Find your custom rom files
4. Flash to install
5. Find your gapps files
6. Flash to install
7. Hope to boot again
Result : you have a rooted/unlocked machine with android 4.0.3 with no warranty and custom recovery / custom rom installed
That worked for me.

Make sure to cold boot a couple of times after installing CleanROM. That usually helps a bit. Also, try Browser2Ram.
I thank the OP for this thread as I was also having some questions, even though I don't consider myself an actual newbie. I think this thread will help a lot of people out with an outline process of what to do with the TF700 regarding the root to flashing custom ROM process. I am still left with a few questions that I'm hoping can be answered. [btw, my TF700 is totally stock, no root, locked, on the latest OTA JB release, US version]
1) for the OP, what made you decide to proceed with your Phase 0, rather than going straight to Phase 1?
2) If a person only wanted to root their device, could the simply follow the Phase 1 listed here only? Is there a need to unlock the bootloader if you want to just be Rooted?
3) Does anyone think that there will be a way to go from Rooting to Installing a Custom Recovery, without unlocking the boot loader (similar to the TF101 process)?

Hello everyone, this is my first question and I've been pulling my hair out trying to get my TF700 updated to JB. I've looked though all of the forums but I haven't found a very good answer for my problems. I'm unlocked but on stock recovery and .30 firmware. The issue I'm having is I can't update to JB either through OTA or with the dlpkgfile way. I've tried resetting my .30 firmware to make sure the build.prop is correct by using the SD card and power + vol down and I keep getting a signature verification failed error. Every time I try to do any updating I get an android with the red triangle exclamation point. Any help would be really appreciated, I can't get anything to work.
I hope you are aware of the fact that once unlocked, your device will not receive any OTA updates from ASUS any more. By using the unlock tool from ASUS, you have forfeited both your warranty and any future OTA updates. As such, the easiest way for you to upgrade to JB is to download and manually flash the latest firmware for your tf700 from ASUS website. Below is the all-in-one guide for the tf700, you can refer to the Clean Factory Restore section for more information:

Btw, since your tablet is unlocked, you should just check out the Development section of this forum to flash a custom ROM to your liking. After all, the only reason to unlock is to use custom ROMs.

You need to check your system information to verify your build, WW or US and you may want to download the right firmware again from the Asus websie. Sometime the file is corrupted or have a wrong firmware. When you get the new firmware from Asus, you need to unzip it once because there is a zip file inside another zip file. Now you can copy the Second zip file to your internal root directory on your device and reboot it. After a reboot, you will see the new firmware message notification on the lower right corner. Now you can select the message from the notification and follow the instructions from there. Good luck..
Hello co-A510 users,
I've been lurking for quite a while and I repeatedly see questions about "how to get the JB bootloader?". Followed by the answer "Go back to stock ICS, then get the OTA.". Usually followed by the follow-up question "B-b-but... how?"
This post attempts to answer that follow-up question, for most folks, in the easiest way possible.
The Six Steps to Stock:
Step 1: Download the Stock Acer OS (rom zip)
- Go to http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/drivers
- Select Tablet >> Iconia A >> A510 in the product list
- On the new web portion that will appear, select the "O.S." tab, and download your appropriate build (mine is WW.GEN 1)
Step 2: Flash the OS (rom zip)
- Save the zip in your SD card
- Enter your custom recovery, and flash it
- After the successful flash, reboot your system
- CWM will ask you if you want to keep your custom recovery, say NO. Remember, you want to go back to stock. So let the zip do it's job
Step 3: Check your System Date and Time
- Once booted, make sure that your date and time (time zone included) is correct.
Step 4: Check for System Updates
- Go to Settings >> About Tablet >> System Update >> Check now
Step 5: Wait
- If a pop-up is saying that you're on the latest version, try again at a later time.
- If there's no pop-up saying you're on the latest version, wait. It's a 252MB JB rom downloading in the background.
Step 6: OTA Update
- Once the JB zip is downloaded, a pop-up will say "Install Later, More details, Install Now"
- Select Install Now
- After a few familiar windows, you will now be on the JB recovery, and the JB rom. Ready for the adventure ahead.
This is nice, but a little info regarding why installing JB bootloader would be nice (if I remember correctly one of the things is to reduce the screen flicker, but that's what I THINK), and also how to root and get back in custom ROM road
Oh, and also, is there a way to know what verion of tab we have if we're already on custom ROM?

The main reason that you would want to have the JB bootloader, is to fix the audio stutter bug of the ICS bootloader.
(If you're on the ICS bootloader, play some music files, then turn your screen off. The CPU throttles down to the point of slowing down your music player.)
About how to root JB, I think it should deserve it's own thread. I simply follow the one here, it's pretty complete already (I rooted my stock JB just an hour ago):

And yes, whatever ROM you are on, you almost always have the settings >> about phone menu.
what I meant was get the appropriate build (either WW.GEN 1 or AAP.AU2); I did enter About Phone, but wasn't able to find any of that data (obviously)

Ah... good point. What I personally did was to restore my nandroid back-up from my stock image.
As an alternative, I would say flash NoThrills' optimized WW Gen1 rom. However, I do admit that it is something that I never tried as base. And it's a "do it at your own risk" thing.
Firmware version 1.073 A510 ICS
After flashing you will have stock firmware 1.73.00 WW GEN with closed bootloader.
Flash the fastboot mode (with unlock bootloader).
Run the restore.bat in the extracted archive folder.
After flashing tablet upgraded to firmware version AV051_A510_1.034.00_WW_GEN1 by OTA.

Hi,
I'm keen to update my bootloader, and have been trying to get it done for a while now.
However, i got stuck while following your instructions... at the beginning already!
At that url you quoted, there are only UPDATE files. They won't work, tried already. Those need you to have stock rom.
Where can you get a real stock rom zip?
Thanks!

Hi both of you, I know I am terribly late, but I have basically the same problem.
I wanted to go back to the latest stock version because I am selling the tablet.
Before I had all kinds of CM and then NoThrills and wanted to go completely stock.
I managed to get 4.0/ICS with all Stock options, but I couldn't find a way to upgrade to JB with any "official" method.
The standard OTA search says "Unstable network connection" and the SD card update.zip ends with the red triangle robot.
Personally the journey is at an end for me, since I don't care, it will stay on ICS.
Maybe one has to fiddle with the bootloader lock/unlock, but I am tired of it.
Sorry for not being helpful, just saying I have the exact same problem.
