i changed the title since that is not the issue any more. i re-melted the solder on the power button and it stoped the loops but now it just made it super ultra sensitive like its a touch screen button. any ideas?
so my phone just randomly shut off one night and it automatically turns on when i have my battery in and it just stays on the samsung logo for about 2-5 second and sometimes the touch key lights turn on but just turns back off and does the same. when i try to boot into download mode it doesnt go into it, it just show the image of the batter loading with the loading circle for about 5 second then shuts off. The phone its rooted but running stock. any help with be greatly appreciated!
If I searched for something like this I'd probably find info on the power button being stuck.

Already tried that solution, im slowly starting to think it is a hardware issues. there is no water damage at all.
Hey.
So I have the EXACT same problem...
Phone was on CM10 Jellybean (no OC). Randomly shut off and started to bootloop. Phone will start bootloop when battery is plugged in.
1) Put in battery while holding vol+/-
2) Put in battery while holding power vol+/-
3) Put in battery while holding vol+/- and USB plugged in (I believe this is the correct method of getting download mode)
4) Put in battery while holding vol+/- and USB Jig plugged in
5) Put in battery while USB jig plugged in.
I am all out of ideas. When there is a USB jig, the phone DOES get into download mode, only to immedialtly bootloop back into download mode.
Did you Odin or Heimdall back to stock (since you are in download) and see if it still loops?

So I did this and I love being able to do this, especially testing my ROM out when I make small changes, but one correction, this shuts down the phone, not reboot. Either way, great find.
I actually like it turning off so I can easily boot back into clockwork to flash things.
That's awesome. Tho it did reboot, didn't shut down.

It's surprising that this is news... I thought by now everyone would have known about it.
Wanna know another little trick? Hold all four buttons (Vol. up, vol. down, camera, and power) and you'll be thrown almost immediately into recovery.

I just tried this (with it plugged in charging, no less) and confirms that this works.. and the BEST part is that it's not just 'recovery' it throws you into clockwork recovery
keep holding them and you'll get there.. (took like 2 seconds I believe)
I find this annoying. My phone reboots at least once a day while I'm at work because of this. I keep it in the stock samsung holster, and if I lean down to pick something up off of the floor, shortly later I'm greeted to my phone rebooting.

Nope, tap, press, or hold, whatever you do you will be shuting down your phone, and it is not just a shut down it is essentially cutting the power so it is instant.
interesting.... if you do the 3 button reboot, and phone is pluged into power, it simply turns off and all you see is the battery charging icon.... if it's not plugged in, then it will reboot
This is great, and all, and if it works when the OS is hung or crashed, it's the only solution.
However, I find the Reboot Widget from marketplace (need to be rooted) to be much easier in most cases.

Ah there's my problem I only tried while my phone was plugged in.
Hey guys, new guy to the nexus forums. My friend gave me his never rooted nexus to try and "Unbrick". Last year his power button stopped working and then he updated to JB. It was fine, power button still didn't work but at least it booted. One day back in December his phone froze so, to reboot, he pulled the battery, as he usually did. IT WOULD NOT BOOT BACK UP! I have soft-bricked a lot of my phones via rooting and stuff but i have never seen this before. It:
a) no vibrate when plugged in/ press and hold power
b) will not boot when plugged in
c) while charging, camera area gets hot (assume that's area where processor lies)
Any ideas guys? is it the circuit board? Bad boot?
Thank you from Me and my friend! .

I have been rooted and using various roms for over half a year. I was using my phone and than my power button stopped functioning out of nowhere. I took my battery out and put it back in and it turned back on but the power button would sometimes work and sometime not. So I decided to reflash the rom so when i clicked the reboot button in my toggles and told to to go into recovery it turned off and did not go into recovery mode but instead it flashed the samsung logo briefly and said recovery booting at the top but it does not boot into recovery. I took the battery out and put it back in and it does the same thing just flashes the samsung logo once with the recovery booting and than goes dark. All this happened in 1 hour.
So i cant boot into recovery or get into download mode, and odin does not recognize that there is a device connected.
Help if you can.
So no lights at all? Take battery out. Hook phone into computer. What happens? Does you computer recognize it?

Unfortunately no. Plugged it into computer, press power button and it vibrates one second and charging LED (red) flashes once and thats it. Nothing shows up on device manager.
Plugged it into computer and turned ODIN on... no result. It doesnt recognize that there is a phone connected.
Guys please help a guy out? ive gone through so much posts lately on Google, please if anyone knows even a hint of something that could help please mention it
Thanks ahead of time
Tried another S3 battery, maybe that was the problem but no. Pressed power button, Samsung logo flashes for less then a second. Then everything goes blank.
Next time i hit power button with this battery from another S3, all that happens is that it vibrates, the red LED flashes once and thats it.
Have also tried all combinations of Power+Vol+Home. They get only a vibrate from the phone as if only hitting the power button.

it sounds like the power button is your problem, like its stuck down. Can you tell if its sticking out about normal or does it seem shallow(like depressed a bit)?
edit:
I would try to place the phone on a good flat, hard surface and then try to boot into recovery and just barely put pressure on the power button in the process. Not trying to sound smart mouth but hold vol+ with left thumb and use any right finger to hold home then use left pointer to press power. Thus you can use just the minimum amount of pressure on the power button.
If you get any further than you have been , I would bet on the button being bad. If not it may have been a partition messup. I was using the trim feature and mine goofed up the partitions and had to repartition in odin and everything. If it isnt the button find a jtag and have it done.
Good luck, Hope you can get it fixed.

Ok I did that but no results...
But I did figure something out that I didn't know: ok so when the phone is lying flat on its back and I tap it moderately 3 times very quickly the phone vibrates once and flashes just the Samsung logo for a split second.... That happens without even pressing any of the buttons. And then everything goes black. Sometimes it will do the vibrate and Samsung logo and then the "Samsung Galaxy S3" logo will show for couple seconds. Then like always it goes black.
So this must mean some of the hardware inside is disrupted. Its been dropped many times on ground. Never cracked screen but it must be the hardware inside. Does that sound logical? Or does someone else have a theory?

It ain't working now so what's the difference. I would look for some teardown videos and power button replacement vids and see if you want to try. Find out how much a button would be and then decide.

Good morning all!!
I am in a pretty crappy situation right now and am pretty positive that my phone is no longer usable! I've had my S3 I535 for quite awhile now and love it! but probably a couple months ago the power button broke on it and it sucked but i got an app to shut the screen down and just kept myself aware enough to make sure it always stayed charged so it didn't shut off. (if i took the battery out and really quickly put it back on it would boot my phone) so anyway with that problem i wanted to download button mapper to have the ease of having some kind of power button. knowing that i would have to root to get that i did so using casual. it worked and i was so excited to be rooted obviously and i was always wanting to i just didn't know how easy it could be. So after rooting i got super user, root explorer, tool kit... all the apps anyone would get. then i downloaded a copy of beats audio which had an installer app with it. it downloaded fine and installed then it restarted my phone. now my phone loads to the Samsung logo and says custom and also has a lock image that is unlocked and then it just shuts down after that and just keeps vibrating over and over like every five seconds. not sure what killed it or is making it do this but it really sucks without my phone!! ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! thanks in advance!!!!!!!! Keep in mind I cannot get into recovery mode because of my power button broke and also after rooting my phone rebooted and was fine but i never rebooted after that until that beats audio app made my phone reboot.:crying:
It's not going to help you today, but you should have a usb jig on hand...that way if you do get stuck with your power off, just plugging the jig in will power up your phone into recovery. I have one, just for emergencies. Also, replacing the power button may not be as hard as you think. You might want you search you tube videos to see if it's something you'd consider attempting.

Quick fix.. I bet it's your power button. My phone was doing the same thing over and over. With your phone, case off if you have one, barely touch your power button. If your screen goes off then time to take it apart and remove the power button. You can still turn on the phone via the USB cable when plugged in

You should be able to turn the phone on by plugging in the USB cable, right when you do that, immediately hold down the home button + volume down. Then once the screen pops up, hit down volume button to restart the phone
