[Q] [G2x] Software update for LG-P999-V21y / GRJ22? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Ladies and Gentlemen,
My T-Mobile US G2x (Latest Official: Android 2.3.4 V21y GRJ22) last Saturday 11/10 started to display a update notification.
As a long time G2x User (...), I decided to check with LG before anything.
So far LG is saying that there is no more recent updates available for it.
However, the update notification came back again today and I got screenshots.
Has anybody else seen a update notification for the G2x?
More information on the same post at LG Forum:

Old news already been discussed there is even a recent thread again discussing this just a couple of threads down. If you manage to actually get the "update" installed let us know

xBkKx,
I went down the forum pages and I did not find your referred post.
Do you mind point it out?
So I want to try to see if LG says anything before I try anything.
I do not want to take chances with the G2x...
Do you?
Thanks,

Odd I don't see it now, only one I see is this one but I wasn't referring to it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990051
I got that notification constantly when I was using the stock 2.3.4 ROM back in June after seeing nothing positive coming from it I just went back to the ICS/JB ROMs since I was just having false hope it was an OTA for ICS

[Q] I just have a question about the update

This is my first post. OK I have the GB 2.3.3 update I did it through the LG updater the day it came out. The whole process went smoothly with no problems. But I heard that 2.3.3 is just a beta and that 2.3.4 will be the final and I think that they said it is going to be over the air so my question is will I get the OTA update and what should I expect? Do I have to keep checking myself through the check update in options or will it just be forced to my phone when it is time? Or Should I keep checking the LG updater to see if they have it?
I'm sorry for all the Noob questions but I this is only my second smartphone my first android and I have never received an OTA update. I heard that the stock camera only is capable of 720p there is no way that they are going to leave it that way. One of the features of the phone was the ability to shoot in full 1080p so I would assume that .4 will contain a really good camera app.
Lastly I have to say that I love this phone I have not had the troubles that others have had and that's not to say the problems don't exist I just didn't have them. there have been a few issues here and there but certainly nothing major and you gotta remember this is a small computer and I have been around computers all my life and have never seen one that didn't have its share of bugs and problems. It is just the nature of the beast and a smartphone is no different. But I guess I don't have to tell you guys that I really like what is done over here at xda keep up the good work boys.
Thanks,
Charlie
Getting the GB 2.3.3 update through LG update shouldn't preclude you from getting a future 2.3.4 update (if at all) from either LG or Tmobile OTA.
Thanks thats a good thing. So ny next question would be is the OTA update that they are rolling out 2.3.4? or is it the same thing that I got 2.3.3. Also will my phone just let me know when it is ready and say something like ota update is ready for your device and give me a option to continue? What is the process. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

OTA update?

Is it normal that I still haven't gotten any OTA update? Im over in NY and went to stock ROM, went to stock recovery, and unrooted the phone. When is the OTA update rolling out until? Did it stop? I keep getting connection failed when manually looking for a software update.
And I don't want to manually use the LG tool because I am afraid of bricking the phone and don't want to go through the trouble of unbricking it.
I never got the OTA either and it was announced they stopped. The LG updating didn't brick my phone either.
I was actually wondering the same thing.
I called Tmo CS over a week ago, and he swore that I would be getting either an email, text or phone call, letting me know that I would be getting the update. He was nice, but I think he was new (didn't seem all that sharp). I did ask him about the rumor that they stopped the OTA, and he said that there was nothing about that in his system. He said, according to his system, it was still active. I asked him like 3x lol.
I have a refurb, so can't use the LG update tool. I know there is an alternate way of doing it, here on the forums, but I'm just too darn lazy lol. I will be calling Tmo again, in the next few days. If I get any useful info, I will pass it along to you.
I like my G2x, but honestly...between LG and Tmo, this has been one, huge clusterf**k. Thank God for the devs here, and around the net. They have done what LG and Tmo have continuously failed to do...made me a happy G2x owner!
ive had the same issue trying to do it by the phone so used LG tool and .... bricked my phone
i called Tmo and they exchanged my phone at no cost. the new one came with Gb preinstalled.
Why not just screw the OTA and grab one of the great custom, pre rooted roms. I did the OTA thing and had to re root. Ran the official update for two days and got tired of the thing. The custom roms spoil you.

I'm running EB 2.3.3, and love it. And thanks to EB, I also love my G2X again. But I would like to have the new baseband. And I can only get that from the update.
Really, what I think it comes down to (for me), is that I want T-Mobile to step the hell up, and stop jerking me around. How do you release an OTA...but only to SOME? I've just never heard of such a thing. And how do you release your "flagship" phone, then realize it's got issues, and then try to sweep all the owners of said "flagship" under the carpet...where you don't have to deal with them any more? It just makes me sad. I used to brag to all my friends, how much I loved T-Mobile.

I kind of sympathize, but people recommend custom roms as a blanket solution to random issues way too often. Don't get me wrong, I love EB and CM, and xboarder's rom is fantastic, but the first two don't have a2dp and the latter won't still give you a new baseband. For people like me who have a non-functional gps and rely on a2dp, the official update is pretty critical.
Also, is there any evidence suggesting T-Mobile actually pulled the update? I think I know the post where this rumor started, and for what it's worth, a pretty knowledgeable rep told me about a week ago that the OTA is still rolling out, and will continue to do so through August. If the roll-out is slow, I don't think its too surprising considering what little space lg has to screw up again.

Well here it is posted on T-Mobile Support forum. The post says its created by T-Mobile so I'd say its legit, not a rumor.

Actually, although EB 2.3.5 doesn't have A2DP, EB 2.3.3 does.
And the mms works SO much better than other ROMS I've tried.

But you called it a rumor. Looks pretty official to me.

A message to lg...

LG, please get up off your buts and make us a good ics or at least a good gb update for this phone!!! It's so annoying that the stock "stable" OTA still has many many glitches!!! Please make up for your crappy sfw updates.
.......pst. Got a secret for you......I think you're posting in the wrong place. They aren't going to get your message here, lol.
They'll ignore you at these two links, but they'll actually see your post there, lol. Not so much here on this site

EDIT:
while reading through a post on the LG forums about this same type of thing, came across a post from a user there:
I just contacted LG and they are not working on ICS at this time for there devices. They are still perfecting GB for all devices now.... JUst gonna have to wait....

Man...research does wonders. I found this in under 5 minutes
'Cause, you know... LG spends time on XDA...
No way LG will do ICS. It is almost time for a new product release and that one will et ICS. LG's track record of updating devices once released is very bad. We only got GB because of the class action lawsuit. The USA is the only release that got GB. Everyone else in the world, including Canada, are still stuck on Froyo and not likely to see GB ever without flashing a custom rom. If you want ICS you will get it from the dev community, but it will not be a stock rom from LG.
Now if Google would only adopt this orphan, that would be another story. But that's not going to happen either. It is ridiculous how often my Nexus One gets an update from Google.

[Q] Anyone try the new LG/Tmo update?

http://phandroid.com/2011/12/06/t-mobile-g2x-gingerbread-update-ota-resumes/ points to a new OTA from Tmo/LG. I think its the July update, but I'd like to confirm that there isn't anything more to it. Anyone know?
So that means NO ICS!!!! Time to shop for another phone possibly?? How could a phone so great be in so much hot water?

Huh? LG already stated they would make an ICS update for us. Plus CM9 has already been made for this phone. So we're getting ICS either way.
tmonews reported this update as a re-roll out for anyone who missed the OTA update from July. Has nothing to do with any future ICS eligibility and there's probably nothing new.
So this update is nothing different than the one that was released in July?
This is a little bizarre.

Yes it's the same. I remember calling t-mobile in the first week of August because I never got the ota, and I checked everyday since its release. They told me back then that I could be put on a list and wait to receive the ota once they decided to roll it out again, or use the lg updating software on the lg site. I went with the latter.
I can't believe it took them this long for the re-roll out! They are moving these ota's at a snails pace. In conclusion if you don't have a nexus then you know the word OTA is just a damn over-hyped buzz word.
I never got an OTA. Just some speal about the LG updater.
OTA = bricking your G2x using the LG Updater tool and getting repaired = Bada Boom!

Both my wife and I have Galaxy SII Skyrocket I727 devices through AT&T, and both got the "IMPORTANT SOFTWARE UPDATE" text yesterday.
My phone is rooted, and did not take the update, but her's is not, and did. I don't have it in front of me, but it was a new version Gingerbread of some sort. Maybe UCKJ3. There were definite changes though after, like a new text message alert icon and swipe to unlock notifier.
That is all I know, sorry. If I remember tonight, I'll look at her kernel and ROM codes and post. Thanks.
Don't make new threads if there is already ones talking about the exact same thing. locked.
Cheers
