[Q] I just have a question about the update - T-Mobile LG G2x

This is my first post. OK I have the GB 2.3.3 update I did it through the LG updater the day it came out. The whole process went smoothly with no problems. But I heard that 2.3.3 is just a beta and that 2.3.4 will be the final and I think that they said it is going to be over the air so my question is will I get the OTA update and what should I expect? Do I have to keep checking myself through the check update in options or will it just be forced to my phone when it is time? Or Should I keep checking the LG updater to see if they have it?
I'm sorry for all the Noob questions but I this is only my second smartphone my first android and I have never received an OTA update. I heard that the stock camera only is capable of 720p there is no way that they are going to leave it that way. One of the features of the phone was the ability to shoot in full 1080p so I would assume that .4 will contain a really good camera app.
Lastly I have to say that I love this phone I have not had the troubles that others have had and that's not to say the problems don't exist I just didn't have them. there have been a few issues here and there but certainly nothing major and you gotta remember this is a small computer and I have been around computers all my life and have never seen one that didn't have its share of bugs and problems. It is just the nature of the beast and a smartphone is no different. But I guess I don't have to tell you guys that I really like what is done over here at xda keep up the good work boys.
Thanks,
Charlie

Getting the GB 2.3.3 update through LG update shouldn't preclude you from getting a future 2.3.4 update (if at all) from either LG or Tmobile OTA.

Thanks thats a good thing. So ny next question would be is the OTA update that they are rolling out 2.3.4? or is it the same thing that I got 2.3.3. Also will my phone just let me know when it is ready and say something like ota update is ready for your device and give me a option to continue? What is the process. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

anyone know future otas

Just one quick thing it worked great on my g1 and now have rc29 but does anyone know if I will get future ota updates. Want to make sure incase new ones will only be ota?
My opinion,
I hope they start placing the updates online. Have the phone sync the update onto the phone at my free will and so on. Pick and choose which ones i want to install?!?!
Yeh would be great but takes tmo forever to get updates like the wing I am surprised they had this one. Is a first they realeased that quick.

Remember Tmo has nothing to do with this phone. All updates come straight from google. Tmo just tells google what software they want on the phone.
forcing upgrade
there is a file released by google that you name update.zip then do the hokiepokie while you turn on the g1 and it gets the OTA update without all the over air stuff...
its laid out here on this site
it only took me a few mins, I was sick of waiting

Official Sideloading for Cappy

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...pdate-to-allow-sideloading-on-select-devices/
Here come the bricks. Will you go back to stock just for a sideloading ota update when you can do this on any custom rom?
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
According to 99% of the threads here on XDA, if you even look at your Cappy the wrong way you run the risk of bricking it. lol

FALSE!
the ONLY WAY to brick your device perminantly is to have a bad bootloader flash.
OTA will not mess with custom roms.
OTA for this update will not touch bootloaders.
i dont even have this problem or ATT but even I say thank you for not being dicks anymore ATT!!
Will this be rolling out to Eclair users or just Froyo? And if you're on Eclair will this OTA include the Froyo upgrade? Anyone gotten this OTA yet?
umm...? if you receive OTA updates, you will already be OTA updatED to froyo. no?
so if you are still on eclair... umm.. wait!.. why would anyone still be on eclair?
oh... im scared of flash video and voice search... lol

I was (mostly) being facetious there. I've been flashing and modding my phone for a while now and it has been next to impossible to hard brick.
well dont say stuff that can confuse the noobs please.
Anyone actually receive the update yet? Anyone who did, straight stock, rooted, any other notable differences?
Can we be connected via Wifi? Need to be on data network?
I just tried to see if it was available to me... nothing at 1pm in Atlanta

AT&T could f#@% up a wet dream. This could also be a plot to void your warranty. "You loaded an unauthorized app which caused your trouble, not our problem. Oh, btw, we'll sell you an Infuse cheap."

Can at least one post in any forum I've looked at site a source or show something more believable then one crappy blurry pic of a random computer screen. Heck why is it not even the whole screen? What is that a pic of, other then something somebody made up who was not even good enough to use photoshop?

Froyo was never rolled out OTA was it? Thought it was a Kies update.
I'm helping my extremely tech-illiterate friend with her Captivate and I want to figure out exactly what the details are of the various updates so that I don't scare her with anything
I'm from I9000-land and I flash every couple of days But I'm a bit unfamiliar with the Captivate scene.
No they tried an OTA but it ended up bricking alot of devices due to no 3 button support. To be honest if it is not a kies update I would never touch it. To many things to go wrong with OTA. But we will see. It will most likely be 2.2 update
my question is would it cause any issues on a rooted stock froyo ?
I was just on-line with the Technical Support chat via the AT&T site and I asked the rep if she could confirm that this OTA update was even available. And she replied that she doesn't even see this update for the Captivate on her system. Not sure what's true or not...
I hope it's here in time for free plants vs. zombies, May 31st! I don't want my wife to have to pay. (I already have the Amazon Appstore on mine, of course).

Just grab it from the Amazon website and then once AT&T allows sideloading you can install the appstore and then install the game on your phone.
At least ATT is going in the right direction, however, they need to update all their android phones to have hsupa also then having a stock phone is not so bad but I have been able to sideload with out using a computer since getting the phone enabling non market apps since the first day on my captivate *Launch date*. I have been using HSUPA ever since I started using Custom roms after the first froyo leak was released by DG.. So nothing to really effect me at all with this news, but it is good that any future phones released will have at least this enabled..
Cheers,
Charlie

they may be late to the party but at least they deserve a lil love for moving in the right direction and at least in one regard listening to their customers. Now if they would just be smart enough to realize/admit charging for tethering is a scam and recognize the marketing bonanza "Free to Tether" would be.

Don't tell that to other members of the Galaxy S family. OTA updates have occasionally done worse.

OTA update?

Is it normal that I still haven't gotten any OTA update? Im over in NY and went to stock ROM, went to stock recovery, and unrooted the phone. When is the OTA update rolling out until? Did it stop? I keep getting connection failed when manually looking for a software update.
And I don't want to manually use the LG tool because I am afraid of bricking the phone and don't want to go through the trouble of unbricking it.
I never got the OTA either and it was announced they stopped. The LG updating didn't brick my phone either.
I was actually wondering the same thing.
I called Tmo CS over a week ago, and he swore that I would be getting either an email, text or phone call, letting me know that I would be getting the update. He was nice, but I think he was new (didn't seem all that sharp). I did ask him about the rumor that they stopped the OTA, and he said that there was nothing about that in his system. He said, according to his system, it was still active. I asked him like 3x lol.
I have a refurb, so can't use the LG update tool. I know there is an alternate way of doing it, here on the forums, but I'm just too darn lazy lol. I will be calling Tmo again, in the next few days. If I get any useful info, I will pass it along to you.
I like my G2x, but honestly...between LG and Tmo, this has been one, huge clusterf**k. Thank God for the devs here, and around the net. They have done what LG and Tmo have continuously failed to do...made me a happy G2x owner!
ive had the same issue trying to do it by the phone so used LG tool and .... bricked my phone
i called Tmo and they exchanged my phone at no cost. the new one came with Gb preinstalled.
Why not just screw the OTA and grab one of the great custom, pre rooted roms. I did the OTA thing and had to re root. Ran the official update for two days and got tired of the thing. The custom roms spoil you.

I'm running EB 2.3.3, and love it. And thanks to EB, I also love my G2X again. But I would like to have the new baseband. And I can only get that from the update.
Really, what I think it comes down to (for me), is that I want T-Mobile to step the hell up, and stop jerking me around. How do you release an OTA...but only to SOME? I've just never heard of such a thing. And how do you release your "flagship" phone, then realize it's got issues, and then try to sweep all the owners of said "flagship" under the carpet...where you don't have to deal with them any more? It just makes me sad. I used to brag to all my friends, how much I loved T-Mobile.

I kind of sympathize, but people recommend custom roms as a blanket solution to random issues way too often. Don't get me wrong, I love EB and CM, and xboarder's rom is fantastic, but the first two don't have a2dp and the latter won't still give you a new baseband. For people like me who have a non-functional gps and rely on a2dp, the official update is pretty critical.
Also, is there any evidence suggesting T-Mobile actually pulled the update? I think I know the post where this rumor started, and for what it's worth, a pretty knowledgeable rep told me about a week ago that the OTA is still rolling out, and will continue to do so through August. If the roll-out is slow, I don't think its too surprising considering what little space lg has to screw up again.

Well here it is posted on T-Mobile Support forum. The post says its created by T-Mobile so I'd say its legit, not a rumor.

Actually, although EB 2.3.5 doesn't have A2DP, EB 2.3.3 does.
And the mms works SO much better than other ROMS I've tried.

A Bird in the Hand?

I'm looking for some "Expert" LOL opinions on this. I've got my original G2x that I got on opening day. It doesn't freeze and has only rebooted a handful of times. I'm getting the "Connection Failed" sign when I try the OTA upgrade. I know I can install the update manually but with a lot of people trying to go back to Froyo should I keep my bird in the hand , or should I upgrade in hopes of getting a little better Battery management.? What are the pro's & con's as you all see them?
Thanks,

I would just update using the LG Tool, because it gives out a different version than the T-Mobile OTA. I'm not exactly sure what the differences are though (Probably not noticeable)
But it is worth it to update. You'll get the updated baseband which will give you instant GPS Locks, and better Signal
I too Have my original g2x with no problems and I have had it since the second week it was relesed. I got the LG update the hoour it came out and had no problems it worked like a charm. My phone is now better than ever I cant complain it gets really good battery loife and almost never reboots not that it rreally rebooted before. I say cgo for it man As long as your phone works good and you havent innstalled a bunch of crap on the phone you should be fine.

[Q] Anyone try the new LG/Tmo update?

http://phandroid.com/2011/12/06/t-mobile-g2x-gingerbread-update-ota-resumes/ points to a new OTA from Tmo/LG. I think its the July update, but I'd like to confirm that there isn't anything more to it. Anyone know?
So that means NO ICS!!!! Time to shop for another phone possibly?? How could a phone so great be in so much hot water?

Huh? LG already stated they would make an ICS update for us. Plus CM9 has already been made for this phone. So we're getting ICS either way.
tmonews reported this update as a re-roll out for anyone who missed the OTA update from July. Has nothing to do with any future ICS eligibility and there's probably nothing new.
So this update is nothing different than the one that was released in July?
This is a little bizarre.

Yes it's the same. I remember calling t-mobile in the first week of August because I never got the ota, and I checked everyday since its release. They told me back then that I could be put on a list and wait to receive the ota once they decided to roll it out again, or use the lg updating software on the lg site. I went with the latter.
I can't believe it took them this long for the re-roll out! They are moving these ota's at a snails pace. In conclusion if you don't have a nexus then you know the word OTA is just a damn over-hyped buzz word.
I never got an OTA. Just some speal about the LG updater.
OTA = bricking your G2x using the LG Updater tool and getting repaired = Bada Boom!
