anyone know future otas - G1 Android Development

Just one quick thing it worked great on my g1 and now have rc29 but does anyone know if I will get future ota updates. Want to make sure incase new ones will only be ota?

My opinion,
I hope they start placing the updates online. Have the phone sync the update onto the phone at my free will and so on. Pick and choose which ones i want to install?!?!

Yeh would be great but takes tmo forever to get updates like the wing I am surprised they had this one. Is a first they realeased that quick.

Remember Tmo has nothing to do with this phone. All updates come straight from google. Tmo just tells google what software they want on the phone.

forcing upgrade
there is a file released by google that you name update.zip then do the hokiepokie while you turn on the g1 and it gets the OTA update without all the over air stuff...
its laid out here on this site
it only took me a few mins, I was sick of waiting

Cupcake on T-Mobile G1

I've just received a new T-Mobile G1 and I am pretty desperate to update to a cupcake build. There's loads of guide here that will walk me through it no problem, but there are some things they don't explain fully (or at least, I can't find them).
Will I lose all my contacts and messages when I update? Will I lose all my T-Mobile data (like message settings, 3G settings etc.?). Will Market and everything else still work? What will stop functioning correctly when I do upgrade, specifically for T-Mobile in the UK?
Thanks a lot!

You will lose messages, you will not lose any T-Mobile data, you will not lose any contacts. I suggest you check out Haykuro's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=498026
You will need root. And I suggest you go with haykuro's 4.5 build. I won't go in to any more detail, just do some research in haykuro's thread and others on how to get root, etc. Good luck.
Wel.. Where can i start? The cupcake your possibly reading about isnt fully working on G1 Yet..
I recomend you try one of the magic roms ported to G1, Preferbly 5.0H
Root is easy to achieve, Just read around.. Plenty ahve asked how to do this before, so please dont make new threads, Just read please
If you are referring to the ''Cupcake'' that T-Mobile is releasing this Easter then all these guys are wrong. If you do update to HTC Sapphire it will void your warranty and there's a small(Or large if you don't follow directions) that you could brick your brand new G1. The ''Cupcake'' that T-Mobile will release or at least hoping it will, will be coming in the next days. This update is 100% safe and will not do anything harmful to your g1. It wont even delete anything.

And as I've said in other threads re: Cupcake, I say we wait for JF to do his thing with it.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. I was hard set against root when I first got my g1, but I have seen the light and enjoyed my rooted g1. Thank goodness for the jfupdater app

Huh? That has nothing to do with my post other. My post was answering his question about ''CupCake'' from T-Mobile and not some other Rooted Cupcake. I understand that there are other cupcakes but the best will be T-Mobile for the time being.
I think I said CupCake enough times

Actually, he asked about *a* Cupcake build - he made no mention of an official build, therefore it is reasonable to presume that he is referring to *one that is available* and not *one that isn't*.

Really? For the time being, there is no T-Mobile Cupcake build so how it can it be best? Granted, if and when it comes out, it may well be superior, but that is by no means certain since Haykuros builds are getting better all the time.
If the OP is waiting on an official T-Mobile Cupcake update, I suggest there is no point asking around here since if he leaves his phone with a vanilla build, he'll get the update soon enough, if and when it is released.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks guys. I'm not waiting on the t-mobile build as I have little faith in them releasing it any time soon. I'll ask my question in a different way; what's the best build to put on my UK t-mobile G1? With regards to battery life and features? Thanks
I suggest you read the threads about rooting your G1. The first thing you have to do is downgrade to RC7, and get root. Then, don't accept any OTA (from T-Mobile) upgrades if you should get a notice.
After downgrading and getting root, read up on some of the different builds. You can go to JF's RC9, which is a modded version of the official UK one with root. I would really advise you to do this first, so you will know how to flash your roms, and how to flash the radio.
It will give you a stable version which won't accept OTA updates so you don't have to worry about losing root. (Plug your phone into a power source, or at the very least, be sure your battery has a full charge while flashing, and don't ever turn your phone off while it is flashing.)
After that, read threads like the one comparing the two Magic versions. 5.xG is the google version, and 5.xH is the HTC version.
Once you have gotten root and gone to RC9, you will be able to do something called a Nandroid backup of your phone. You will then be able to try both versions of magic, and also to restore your phone to RC9 if they don't work out for you without losing anything. (Another reason to try a more official mod before trying the Magic ones).
edit: I just found this on the Magic wiki page. It looks helpful: http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/wiki/PageName
Have fun with it!

G1 and mytouch 3g users get android 2.5 update in january

http://droidheaven.com/2009/12/12/g1-and-mytouch-3g-to-get-2-5-update-in-january/
We get the Android 2.5 update in January!!!!! When Cyanogen/Dwang put this into their rom, everything is going to be EPIC
is there any actual proof for this?
if you look at the comments below the article droidheaven even said to go and ask t-mobile. i'm going to do that and hope.
UPDATE: I just talked to a T-Mobile Rep and he said he never heard of a 2.5 update coming in January. He checked and there is no documents. But there is hope. He also told me that there is an update and he won't be surprised if it was 2.5. One more thing. He said it is coming quickly.
LETS KEEP OUR FINGERS CROSSED!!!!

boys this is HTC we are talkin about, if ur device is older than 6 or 7months old you get no support whatsoever i was shocked to hear the hero was getting 2.1 so il be amazed if the G1 gets 2.5 i hope u do tho
HTC already gave up on the Dream, however, Android Alliance will never give up on its devices, while T-Mo has to support it at least until it actually has a single device with a different CPU
if only the mytouch gets the 2.5 update can the g1 get it too? i don't mean like OTA update but cyanogen/dwang/someone turns 2.5 into a ROM?
they should really make devices that can go up at least one in updates (like from 1.x to 2.x or somewhere along that line)
AWSOME
This means I loose hope for good touchscreen with Keyboard from Tmobile
YES APPS are back in bussniess
T-mobile G1-Black
All roms from time to time
RA Recovery
coming but not soon iPhone apps on g1 installer.

[Q] I just have a question about the update

This is my first post. OK I have the GB 2.3.3 update I did it through the LG updater the day it came out. The whole process went smoothly with no problems. But I heard that 2.3.3 is just a beta and that 2.3.4 will be the final and I think that they said it is going to be over the air so my question is will I get the OTA update and what should I expect? Do I have to keep checking myself through the check update in options or will it just be forced to my phone when it is time? Or Should I keep checking the LG updater to see if they have it?
I'm sorry for all the Noob questions but I this is only my second smartphone my first android and I have never received an OTA update. I heard that the stock camera only is capable of 720p there is no way that they are going to leave it that way. One of the features of the phone was the ability to shoot in full 1080p so I would assume that .4 will contain a really good camera app.
Lastly I have to say that I love this phone I have not had the troubles that others have had and that's not to say the problems don't exist I just didn't have them. there have been a few issues here and there but certainly nothing major and you gotta remember this is a small computer and I have been around computers all my life and have never seen one that didn't have its share of bugs and problems. It is just the nature of the beast and a smartphone is no different. But I guess I don't have to tell you guys that I really like what is done over here at xda keep up the good work boys.
Thanks,
Charlie
Getting the GB 2.3.3 update through LG update shouldn't preclude you from getting a future 2.3.4 update (if at all) from either LG or Tmobile OTA.
Thanks thats a good thing. So ny next question would be is the OTA update that they are rolling out 2.3.4? or is it the same thing that I got 2.3.3. Also will my phone just let me know when it is ready and say something like ota update is ready for your device and give me a option to continue? What is the process. Thanks for your help ahead of time.

personally I never worry about OTAs. They do nothing but cause problems imho. I just wait for one of the smart guys here to port it and then I get it. But this thing is for a friend that lives out of town and I won't be there to help him once he leaves. I don't even know if this phone is going to get the ICS anytime soon when the Galaxy Nexus isn't even out yet (in the US that is). My guess is next summer the way Sprint sooooooowly rolls things out.

In theory the ICS OTA should be completely independent of Sprint or any other carrier but I don't if Sprint has to do any fiddling with it because their network is CDMA and not GSM.
Verizon is supposedly getting the the Galaxy Nexus on the 8th so the OTA will be pushed to the NS some time after that. Taking in to consideration Christmas and New Years I'd say the earliest we can expect to get the OTA is the end of January. But who knows maybe Google will push us some OTA holiday cheer

Any metod to update H950 ATT To 5.1.1 OUTSIDE of USA ?

Im searching something To update lg g flex 2 h950 to 5.1.1 WITHOUT OTA because im outside of usa... Can someone help me?

ATT phones require an authorized SIM to access their OTA server. Without one you're out of luck unless someone captures the file from the update, and uploads it. Based on other posts Big Blue hasn't published the tot file publicly for their users on their site yet.
If someone roots after downloading the OTA the file might remain, then they can pull it from /cache or whichever directory LG stores updates on this model.
(A similar method was used to help G2 users that didn't have an ATT card for their D800. )

I already did... like 2 week ago.... and I sent the file and the guide to some people here but I have received no answer about if that works

Didn't see your guide yet, but hopefully those people will post their results soon. I would like to get this phone maybe next year when the price drops further, and having access to updates is important b/c development is basically dead & LG has no plans to unlock the loader.

So from snooping around in anticipation of getting my flex 2 and knowing that an update from ATT is probably not gonna happen using the phone up here in Canada I came across this idea.
http://webtrickz.com/how-to-update-lg-g2-to-official-lollipop-os/
@Sj12345 I take it that this is the procedure you were talking about trying to for the OTA update you captured?
It seems quite straightforward to me! Definitely got me more excited. I want to have that 5.1.1 goodness to bask in like the rest of you here in our little curved community. [emoji2]

Yes, it is basically that we need to do but I was trying to copy the files using download mode, unfortunately the system deleted the files when you reboot, so you need root and update with root is dangerous XD who wanna be the tester

I didn't see anything posted or i may have missed it, but can you use someone's sim card that is with ATT just to get the update and then swap back to TMobile cell? Or does it have to be used for a certain amount of time with ATT?
thank you,

You should be able to pop in an active AT&T sim, turn on your phone, and check for an update, and then swap back to your Tmo sim no problem.
There's in no time limit, but the problem you might run into is updates don't get automatically pushed out even if available and even if you check. They get rolled out by region or some other formula, so sometimes you have to call ATT support and ask them to push it to your phone, which you can't do since you'd be borrowing a friends ATT sim.
The other problem is you can only check for an update once every 24 hours, so you kind of only get one shot with a friends ATT sim. People get around this by manually setting the date forward and re-checking. Lastly, the most recent ATT update was just released September 3rd. They roll out slowly, so you often can't pull them when manually checking for an update right after a release because they are still rolling out per whatever formula ATT uses.
The more time that passes after ATT releases new software update-- say at least a few weeks -- the more likelihood you'll have success checking for an update with a friend's ATT sim because they've already rolled out and, hopefully, they are just available on demand.
(Disclaimer: This is all my best guess/understanding. I'm no authority and certainly welcome anybody correcting me).
Thanks for the answer. I get my phone next friday so will see if it picks it up.
Thanks
D
I'm on cricket wireless so I got tired of doing all these tricks for the update and lost my patience. I flashed to the Puerto Rico version of 5.1.1 and it worked. Got rid of all AT&T crap and updated me from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1. As always beware that there are risks involved and you may end up with a brick. Here's the thread where you'll find instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3180847
