[Q] Atrix Lapdock? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have the Motorola Atrix Lapdock? If so can you connect the Razr HD to it? I just picked one up online for 40 bucks and am curious.

Nope. Webtop was removed from the new Razr interactions. I was pretty bummed.

I wonder if there is an APK floating around out there....

There’s a system dump on almost every Razr forum. I've seen a couple guys mod their lap docks to work in mirror mode, but as far as the whole Webtop, maybe someone has a tut on it...

Already asked the question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972838
Apparently it does work - but with HDMI mirror mode, so you will get big chunky icons and fonts on the screen (regardless of being in 720p). Difference to Webtop 3.0 is that Webtop automatically changes the DPI turning it into "tablet mode" as opposed to "Phone mode". Webtop 2.0 uses Linux and not confident that this will be compatible.

Perhaps botbrew basil + debian + vnc + mirroring?

There are plenty of CHROOT solutions out there (Debian, Ubuntu, Backtrack) - just not sure how well they are. I've decided to choose the RAZR classic instead of the HD to replace my Atrix until someone figures out how to change the DPI settings on the fly between modes and getting higher resolutions (full screen) on the Lapdock.

To answer the OP's actual question, Yes you can connect it. It takes a bit of tinkering though. You have to dissasemble the dock part and revers the direction of the usb and hdmi ports. The lapdock will only function as a mirrored display + keyboard/mouse. It works none the less. I am sure the webtop app is redundant at this point in time due to the convergence of androids desktop like features.
The display itself is a bit washed out but a great buy if you want a bit more screen real estate while traveling for netflix, hulu movies etc.
Also, If you are saavy and they are in stock, you can go to radio shack and pick these up for $9.97. I work at RS and have bought most of the remaining ones from our district so good luck elsewhere!

HDMI input possible?

Is the HDMI port hardware limited to output only? Or with development can I ultimately push my sg3 screen to the infinity? I.e. mirror my phone. Essentially let the infinity become a second monitor?

No, you can't do this with an HDMI cable. You could run a VNC SERVER (not client) on your phone, and then use a client on the tablet to display the phone. Your phone would have to be rooted, but it would be wireless (over wifi).
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=vnc+server&c=apps
what do you mean pushing to infinity and mirror your screen? isn't that's the objective of the output?
Or do you mean that you want to send the output to another PC/device?
I think if you can tweak the driver, it might be possible.
Basically wants to use the tablet as a monitor. I tried googling and I don't think a hack was made with any android tablet so far, so I'm guessing it's unlikely.

[Q] Photon Q with Webtop for Lapdock

I have acquired a Driod Bionic Lapdock which mates perfectly with and charges my Photon Q. Has anyone been able to install a version of Webtop that allows them to fully utilize a Photon Q with a Lapdock? I've seen there are versions of Webtop for the Atrix available on XDA - any thoughts on whether or not that would work with my Photon Q? Thanks in advance for any input/advice!
I have the exact same situation. Can't find much of anything out there. It's sad that this phone didn't receive much interest from anyone either. Almost no dev happened/happening at all it seems. The device actually has decent guts and I'd LOVE to figure out how to put webtop on it. Or even something that will just allow the keyboard to interface with the device in mirror mode. I might actually prefer that MORE than clunky webtop but i'm sure there is more of a chance of getting webtop to work on it than that happening
Could you please help me with choice: what is better - photon q+android tablet or photon q+bionic lapdock=mirror mode?
hard to decide, because in Russia we have no lapdock, so I will order one. Is it usable in mirror mode?i heard that with some firmware and mousepad and keyboard will work without issues.

[Q] hdmi + full hd video stuttering!

Hi everyone, i'm experiencing stutters when i try to play movies in full hd format, when plugged to a tv through hdmi.
When unplugged, it plays anything just fine.
I already tried mx player and bs player, and trying to play with subtitles,
I'm running jelly bean brazilian retail, and this version doesn't have hdmi out settings neither
Webtop mode, only mirroring.
Any guess that what can be done to solve this?
I would try to set different resolution and or refresh rate, but, like i said, there isn't these settings.
If anyone has a clue, i would be thankful.
I'm not sure about RAZR hd... But we have the same problem with JB roms in Atrix HD

You probably have cheap HDMI cable. Go to the store and check out high speed HDMI cable and try it on spot before buying ..
It's not the cable

No, unfortunately is not the cable, i have two high speed 1.4 hdmi cables, and also have a regular Razr XT910, with these two cables the Razr XT910 plays smooth and sharp. I tested the same videos, in same conditions and same players.
What i have observed, is that when i plug the Razr HD XT925, the phone screen stutters either, not only the mirrored one (TV Set), and the interface feels heavier, when you are plugged too !
PS. the both cables that i have, came out with the phones (OEM motorola).
Thank You for the tip anyway.
Sometimes it depends on the decoder that is being used to play the files. Are the movies saved to a memory card, if so what class is it.
I use a 64gb class 10 memory card and watch top gear hd videos on my TV all the time with no problems.

Whether you agree or not does not matter. It's a confirmed issue by Verizon and Motorola.
Just connect Razr HD to a lapdock and see how that goes.

Hey Mtvdeo, is it possible to downgrade to ics without unlock the bootloader,
And is there much difference between 4.1.2 to 4.0.0 ( is there webtop like in normal razr?)
I bought mine with jelly bean already, so i don't know if worth lose warranty to downgrade

There is no webtop on ICS for Razr HD. But resolution is great and very stable when you connect to lapdock. If you are on 4.1.2 you need to unlock bootloader.
There is no difference, except that Jelly Bean looks better in terms of design and is a bit faster. That's it.
agreed

[Q] Razr Maxx HD & Lapdock 500

Well guys im about at my witts end with this. My troubleshooting steps have led nowhere and dont know what to do next.
I am trying to hook up my Razr Maxx HD to my Lapdock 500. From what ive read this should work no problem just without the webtop software interface. This is fine as i have already found a tablet ui module for xposed. anyways when i hook up my phone the mouse and keyboard work perfectly but all that comes up on the display is gray lines. i have tried 2 separate lapdock 500's with the same result. I have also hooked up an original razr with the same gray lines.
now heres the twist...my brothers bionic works perfectly fine with webtop 3.0. I have double checked the hdmi port in my razr with a full sized hdmi adapter to my tv and it worked perfectly. i have also tried forcing 720p through a module thinking that it was possibly an out of range issue but it produced the same gray lines.
a little about my phone...my phone is rooted through the motochopper root and was rooted for the first time on 4.1.2. it was not rooted before it was updated.
System Version: 9.18.79.XT926.Verizon.en.US
Android Version: 4.1.2
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-g101ca72
Build Number: 9.8.1Q-79
Im not sure what of this information is relevant but i am desperate to get this to work or at least find out what the problem is so i can plan what to do next. My plan was to take this thing on my cruise with me on monday as i dont want to take my laptop with me...plus lets face it lapdocks are cool. so does anybody have any clue as to what could be happening here?

Nvidia shield console vs tablet

I need a little clarification. The Nvidia console is running the same type of android as the tablet but has integration with Android TV. So outside of a little bit of a spec boost why can't android TV be done on the Nvidia shield tablet using Console mode hooked up to a TV via HDMI? I'm really not seeing the difference in the two products other than some specs and hardware.

I just tried it then with my Xperia Z2 Tablet, I downloaded the apk from: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/leanback-launcher/. Then pressed home and selected it as my launcher. I then plugged my Xbox 360 controller into my OTG Cable, then into the Tablet. I was able to launch Leo's fortune without a hiccup. Try for yourself.
So technically I could do this with a MHL to HDMI adaptor, but im still going to be getting the Nvidia Shield because I want something permanent in my loungeroom

Did you have to root to do this? Also do you only need the launcher apk or any other files? Not sure if all the services would run the same.
My original point is I have the shield tablet not sure why it can't do exactly the same thing as the console.

I do have root but sideloading an APK doesnt require root. Try it yourself.
If you want that full Android TV experience though, I'd go with the Shield TV
I guess I don't k ow why the tablet can't do what the console does. They are so similar.

Maybe because they're two separate devices that are different things. While I guess I can see what you mean about them being similar, they're different form factors, meant fit different purposes. If you must, install adb drivers and sideload the launcher, or just transfer the apk and install. Tbh though, you're not missing out. True story - it's just a phone without its own screen with a limited launcher. The search function is kind of cool , but nothing amazing. You can say show me movies that won an Oscar in 2012 , or show me movies with Kevin Hart, and it will show you movies, but mostly not what your looking for. I only bought it because ive been streaming games via moonlight on my note 4, and I thought it would be nice to stream them to my tv.

Actually that is what I would like. Contextual search. Appletv is a letdown. Chrome cast has been good but I rather have the interface and the contextual search. I like how androidtv is laid out and interacts with Google now. With that said I already us the tablet so I not going to get the console, which brings me to the reason I am questioning why I can't recreate the same experience. I would like there is more than just the launcher.

Little bit of a spec boost? At least twice as powerful, and 4K at 60FPS to boot.
It also uses the android TV platform which even though it is based on 5.1.1 it is different then the tablet os.
Also the hardware is different.

Beside the spec boost what I want to to flash the android TV platform on my tablet but haven't seen a thread that does this. The lea back launcher is unresponsive when I use it (cannot tap anything on the screen).
