HDMI input possible? - Asus Transformer TF700

Is the HDMI port hardware limited to output only? Or with development can I ultimately push my sg3 screen to the infinity? I.e. mirror my phone. Essentially let the infinity become a second monitor?

No, you can't do this with an HDMI cable. You could run a VNC SERVER (not client) on your phone, and then use a client on the tablet to display the phone. Your phone would have to be rooted, but it would be wireless (over wifi).
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=vnc+server&c=apps

what do you mean pushing to infinity and mirror your screen? isn't that's the objective of the output?
Or do you mean that you want to send the output to another PC/device?
I think if you can tweak the driver, it might be possible.

Basically wants to use the tablet as a monitor. I tried googling and I don't think a hack was made with any android tablet so far, so I'm guessing it's unlikely.

[Q] TV out

Has anyone been able to get the 3.5 mm to RCA adapter to work with the infuse because I have 2 and not all of my TVs are HDMI capable and the TV out settings menu is gone so is it possible
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure it is gone, due to MHL support (HDMI over USB) but if anybody could make it happen, I would love to see it. I don't own a single TV with HDMI, but have 1 component hdtv & composite/s-video sdtv. I would love to be able to use my infuse with them. I used the HDMI for the first time over at my girlfriends grandparents, and it was amazing. Would this be something possible to port over from the captivate once GB arrives, or would it require a too extreme of a sorcery to port over?

We may not have the hardware for it at all. If I ever get the time I'll look to see if there's hint of it in the kernel sources, but just to warn you, this particular item is very low priority for me. I haven't owned an analog-only TV in years.
it would also need a program to tell it it is connected to a tv. the phone whouldnt be able to tell if a tv or a microphone was connected.
is there any update on this yet?
anyone tried something already?
Thanks!

1 - I do; that's a flame war here, read the various threads and deside for yourself.
2 - Look at the threads for 3G dongle. I suggest Roach's Prime ROM.
3 - AFAIK USB sticks and externals should work but I have none to try. File system support could vary by kernel.
4 - ???
5 - Google it and search this forum.

There have been some issues reported here but I think mostly ealier builds; mine drained at about 10%/hour yesterday with prolonged typing and has been drained to 2% on several occasions. Works for me, although I've heard it's not good to drain all the way for overall battery life, so I rarly do.

Miracast HTPC via Software/Wifi Card?

For years I've run a very nice MythTV media server complete with multiseat linux, 5 hard drives, you get the idea. So the idea of buying an extra "dongle" like the ptv or other miracast adapters, while the price isn't bad at all on most of them, seems a bit silly when I've got a core i5 with 10gb of RAM running all the time as is.
Long story short, is there any way to duplicate functionality of these miracast devices in software, preferably on Linux? I realize I'll need a wifi adapter (currently using ethernet but don't mind adding a wifi adapter to give me the requisite wifi direct). I know I can do DLNA easily but I want true screen mirroring for HD videos. Also this would give me the advantage of being able to send said video to any/all 4 monitors/sound systems in my house that are attached to said server. Thanks!

Or on windows? I too would like to be able to do this!

[Q] Using raspberry pi as dock replacement?

hi there,
would it be possible to use the Raspberry as replacement for a docking station?
Means: using the ports the raspberry provides on the smartphone attached via usb? So the smartphone would be the usb host.
Goal: having a cheaper and better dock for the smartphone.
might be a ridiculous idea.
thx
Anything is possible
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
well, thx.
im not saying ur answer didnt help, but could u add just a liiiitle more specificity to it?
It should be possible as lo as you can figure out what tells the phone a doc is a doc. The only other issue, and I don't know how much of one it us not much I think, is making them talk to each other.
That's an exciting awesome idea because like he said anything is possible. You could have a really awesome dock that could do anything. I have seen arduino projects that do all sorts of things with phones. Adding raspberry pi power is a great idea.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
im sure they will talk to eachother right away. but not the way i want it. the pi will recognize the phone as an external storage device.but thats not what i want. i want the phone to be "in charge".
maybe its just not possible by hardware design.
there is still the somewaht cumbersome way of using a vnc Client/server combo running on the PI. but thats not very elegant...

Nvidia shield console vs tablet

I need a little clarification. The Nvidia console is running the same type of android as the tablet but has integration with Android TV. So outside of a little bit of a spec boost why can't android TV be done on the Nvidia shield tablet using Console mode hooked up to a TV via HDMI? I'm really not seeing the difference in the two products other than some specs and hardware.

I just tried it then with my Xperia Z2 Tablet, I downloaded the apk from: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/leanback-launcher/. Then pressed home and selected it as my launcher. I then plugged my Xbox 360 controller into my OTG Cable, then into the Tablet. I was able to launch Leo's fortune without a hiccup. Try for yourself.
So technically I could do this with a MHL to HDMI adaptor, but im still going to be getting the Nvidia Shield because I want something permanent in my loungeroom

Did you have to root to do this? Also do you only need the launcher apk or any other files? Not sure if all the services would run the same.
My original point is I have the shield tablet not sure why it can't do exactly the same thing as the console.

I do have root but sideloading an APK doesnt require root. Try it yourself.
If you want that full Android TV experience though, I'd go with the Shield TV
I guess I don't k ow why the tablet can't do what the console does. They are so similar.

Maybe because they're two separate devices that are different things. While I guess I can see what you mean about them being similar, they're different form factors, meant fit different purposes. If you must, install adb drivers and sideload the launcher, or just transfer the apk and install. Tbh though, you're not missing out. True story - it's just a phone without its own screen with a limited launcher. The search function is kind of cool , but nothing amazing. You can say show me movies that won an Oscar in 2012 , or show me movies with Kevin Hart, and it will show you movies, but mostly not what your looking for. I only bought it because ive been streaming games via moonlight on my note 4, and I thought it would be nice to stream them to my tv.

Actually that is what I would like. Contextual search. Appletv is a letdown. Chrome cast has been good but I rather have the interface and the contextual search. I like how androidtv is laid out and interacts with Google now. With that said I already us the tablet so I not going to get the console, which brings me to the reason I am questioning why I can't recreate the same experience. I would like there is more than just the launcher.

Little bit of a spec boost? At least twice as powerful, and 4K at 60FPS to boot.
It also uses the android TV platform which even though it is based on 5.1.1 it is different then the tablet os.
Also the hardware is different.

Beside the spec boost what I want to to flash the android TV platform on my tablet but haven't seen a thread that does this. The lea back launcher is unresponsive when I use it (cannot tap anything on the screen).
