Charging - big lag! - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Fellas!
I've noticed that my S3 isn't working at all, while charging. Yesterday, I've got a phonecall while S3 was getting some energy with my charger, and I couldn't even see who was calling (only vibration was there).
Once I unplug my phone, it's not laggish at all, ans works just fine.
Does some of you has the same problem? That's juet one of those issues which I got after getting the official 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.

Forum name post fail. No offence S3 users who posted here again, again and again, but READ FORUM NAMES BEFORE POSTING IN IT!
3 is not S3.
Sorry to say that, but I'm sure alot of people from this device forum will understand because they know what I'm talking about.

So many errors...

Hello im Andy from Austria
I got this phone now since 1 month and its my first
android phone. But i have to say that this is not the phone i expected... It all started when i got the first deep sleep on FIRST day. I thought it would go away after some time but it didnt stop. Then i read this things about flashing etc. I tried flashing many firmwares, custom ROMS and kernels... Nothing helped against the deep sleep. But this is not the only Bug the phone has. Sometimes when i want to call someone i cant hear anything. I have to call like 3-4 times to get it work (very annoying). Sometimes i cant do anything (freeze) , 3g doesnt work , cant boot without putting battery out and in again and even more things. No wonder why the phone got out of stores. Currently im on NeoRom 1.0 . But i read some posts where people got their phone dead randomly, and so i want to revert to default config like i got it from shop. The problem is my binary counter is currently on 4... Is there any method to get it to zero without paying? And another problem is maybe because i have removed simlock from it so i think warranty is gone anyway...
Maybe i try to completly reset the phone and then sell it to someome to get some other phone...
We also dont have any CM and i wonder about this because many unknown phones do have CM... Like Galaxy Y or etc...
It would be better to get some GS2 or GS3.
At least there are no deep sleep issues.
Greetings from Austria,
Birki

First of all:
Deep sleep is not an issue! It's a good thing, it's the state when your CPU rests and save your battery. The problem you mentioned is called "sleep of death" (when device becomes unresponsive after screen off)
You can reset your counter with USB-jig (if you have Odin protocol v. 2, if you have 2.1 it's a way more complicated))
It sounds stupid.....but did you change the WiFi sleep policy to never ?
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?

My SGR touch was also not responsive, installed stock rom and took it to service. Now working fine.
So there are galaxy rs that work fine?!
Some said it needs new motherboard. How can i check if i really got a screwed phone?

I agree with pudup . You should visit your service, and explain to them your problem, but even this does not guarantee that you'll get a replacement of motherboard. Maybe you can ask for refund than
i think in austria there isnt even a SSC.. :'(

Crazy Backbutton

Hello,
my Backbutton activates itself. While I am watching Videos, or whatever I do it stops shining and I am out of every application I'm using. After about half a minute it's shining again and I can use it normally. It's like pushing the button multiple times. Does anyone has an idea how to fix it? I tried different roms but it looks like an hardware failure to me.

Happened to me as well it is an issue sometimes with samsung but covered under warranty bring it in to sprint
Hit the thanks button if i helped
Sending it back for support is not an option for me. I imported my device from the US to Germany. The support at Samsung Germany told me that they are not responsible for AMOLED devices.
My second problem ist that my IMEI is crashed since I flashed a rom where the dev made a little mistake. So Samsung won't give me any support.
I thought about changing the display but the price for a new one is about 190 Euro. Way too much... I can assemble and disassemble the device but I think that cleaning the device will not solve the problem.
Any suggestions?

It has nothing to do with the display though.
That's likely the part failing:

http://stellatech.com/samsung-gt-i9020-nexus-s-ui-flex,a,en,810423.html
Verify that the one you currently have isn't simply not connected right.
Thank you. I will have a look if the part is not right connected.
Maybe I have to replace it. But in that case 25 Euro are much cheaper than 190.

This happened to me once. A day later my display completely died. I could turn on my phone, answer calls, etc the touchscreen worked, but I couldnt see anything. I had to get a new one..
I had this problem too.
I flashed a different radio, and boom!! issue resolved
I occasionally get this too. It only comes up when I'm using cm/cm based kernels though, very odd. I'm on matrix right now and it seems to Beowulf, anybody have some tips or suggestions?

I tried a different kernel and it looks like the problem is solved. I know that you should not count your chickens before they are hatched. But I really think that the kernel was the problem.
Anyway, I am just happy that my phone is working properly.
And now I am waiting for jellybean.

It was not the Kernel!
Changing the radio solved the problem.

I don't see how the kernel would have anything to do with the backbutton. Although if it worked out then hey that's awesome. Amazing how much I have learned by reading the forums on this site.:victory:
Just clean off the the backbutton, and maybe it will stop or you have a software bug.

Phone is hot after rooting

Hello all,
So I'm a noob when it comes to rooting, but I got through it fairly simply on my first go. All I've really done since is disable the annoying wifi available notification in the pull down bar. I've noticed however, that the phone has been getting pretty hot since then. Not sure if this is the right place to post, but any help would be appreciated.
Don't understand why just rooting would do that myself. Are you charging it when it gets hot? I know my old bionic would get wicked hot if i was tethering off of it and charging it. But just charging it along only slightly. It was using massive amounts oof battery, like tethering, while charging that induced the heat.
On the other hand though I still tether 5 or 6 people at a time on my S3 a night while charging and my phone barely gets warm. Pushing almost a gig of data a night. Maybe your battery is getting fried? What apps are you using most when it gets hot?

Was it searching for a signal? If you click on battery under settings then look at the graph....is there a lot of red?
That may have been it. I restarted the phone after bad let it charge that night. Today it hasn't happened to me yet. I'll keep this updated though.

Let me take a wild-arse guess: you're running the VRLHD radio? If so: known problem - it's always hot.
How do I find out?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Settings > About phone > Baseband version. FWIW IDK how well known of a problem this is. I'm running the VRLHD radio and my phone is never hot. Asked a few others who frequent d2vzw discussion and they were also unfamiliar. If you want to know for sure, grab a different radio from invisiblek's modem thread and try that.

Just to add my 0.02. My phone always got super hot on the HD modem, if I switched back to any of the others it was fine and its fine now that it is on HE. It didn't matter is I was using WiFi or not it was just always super hot on HD.

[Q] Android system battery drain

I have been trying to figure out the battery drain caused by android system for the past week. I am on cleanrom lite v4 and if it wasn't for that I would b getting great battery. I was looking through everything and found that my Android system version was still VBRLJ1 while everything else was the K1 leak. I could this be causing my problem and how do I fix it? I'm running ktoonz kernel and have done the qsiffdaemon and qosmgr fixes. I I've also done reboots, wiped caches, mounted system and fixed permissions.

Download better battery stats and see what it says is draining the battery. You can find it here on xda with instructions. Post the partial wake locks results here or even better in the thread for BBS.

Okay well to help figure it out. Charge you're battery fully, unplug it and don't touch it at all for at least an hour. The best is to leave it over night. Then post your BBS results. That way all that is shown is what is draining upper battery.

Well, BetterBatteryStats is probably your best bet to figure out what's draining your battery.
You also have an international GSIII (i9300) however this section is for the US GSIII (SCH-I535) which has different hardware so you should probably head over to the i9300 section for proper support beyond what anyone can say regarding BetterBatteryStats.

Moonraker issue.

So I tried the Moonraker Rom yesterday, was awesome IMO. I just had one issue, when I would reboot my phone it would register my battery as dead and shut off before reaching the UI. But if I plugged it in, turned it on, then unplugged it it would read the correct percentage and stay that way until reboot. Is there a fix for this floating around? Kinda reminds me of the depressing "iOS x.x.xx tethered jb" days lol. Thanks in advance
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes, no, maybe so? I'm currently using "dr no v3.0" and its great. Smooth, reliable, fast. But I would really like to experiment with the moonraker rom, just don't want to deal with the battery issue, am I the only one having it?

Pretty sure it was a log issue. I cleared battery logs with a recalibrator and it didn't happen anymore.
