So I've been on JB for about a week now and foxfI was working great...until today now I get a message saying it doesn't work on 4.1.1 and greater. When it was working it seemed to be activating the native tether in conjuntion with foxfi. Anyway reading around it shouldn't of been working at all. I was wondering why it worked up until today for me?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Strange. Mine quit working the minute I moved up to JB ? Using Hotspot now with no problems.
Same here. Moved up to CleanROM 4.5 over the weekend and tested Foxfi, and it worked just fine....up until yesterday when the app updated from Play. Not sure what problem the dev thought they had but was working fine for me.
EDIT: BTW, Tethering Widget works just fine.
I installed a titaniun backup from October and it was the same version so I don't think it was updated? Still didnt work though. I installed trevE mod to get tether working now. Im wondering if verizon diabled entitlement checks for residents after Sandy and just turned them back on now. I live in coastal ocean county half the town was underwater.

That could be. Didn't think about that. However as I said, Tethering Widget works for me. You can also try WiFi Tether For Root Users. All in the Play store...free apps.
will u get billed for tethering widget hotspot if you are on verizon's old unlimited plan?

I tried once while I was in another town, but dismissed the issues I had to a weak signal. Now you've got me wondering. I'll try again tonight when I get home and have my tablet.
All right, I don't understand.
Like you, I can get my tablet connected to my Blaze using the Hotspot sharing. And Google Talk works just fine. However, GMail and the Google Market/Play Store report that there's no connection after spinning for a long time.
Hi, I had the same problem as both of you. I fixed it after root by installing titanium backup, and uninstalling the "tethering manager" after backing it up. This also has solved my problem of the hotspot crashing after enabling it.
You can freeze it instead of uninstalling it too, if you have the pay for version of titanium backup. I would post an outside link to the instructions I used, but I don't have enough posts.

On most carriers, tethering won't work on a stock ROM without a hack.
Last time T-mobile tried to up-sell me to the 5gb unlimited plan, they touted tethering as a bonus feature of that plan.
Yea I have always just had the 5gb plan and been able to use tethering on my old phone and it worked on this one

Glad to help! That app seems to cause nothing but trouble.
I found FoxFi from google play and I'm running hotspot now without any issues. I have unhacked blaze and was having issues tethering (USB or Wifi). The add feature screen kept on popping up on my nook color.
I want to preface this with that I am on Verizon so this is using the Verizon hotspot app and I have rooted my phone but I expecet this to do the same on a non-rooted phone.
I have noticed that if I go directly into the app, the service will not work because it does a check to see if I pay for the tethering option. When it checks, it fails and tells me that if I want it that I need to call a number and add it to my plan. However I have found out that if you have a 3rd party app/widget, it will activate the tethering without the check. I have done this both through "Locale Wifi Hotspot Plugin" and "Tethering Widget". Other tethering apps seem to be flaky and either not work at all or timeout.
I have not had any issues with this; I watched an hour long show on Netflix on my tablet yesterday and used my old DInc(now deactivated), which I have the video out wired into my car, to play a few kids shows this morning on the way into work. I hope Verizon doesn't catch onto this workaround.
I too have found this to work! I downloaded switchpro widgets and it allows you to turn it on through the stock app and configure at will. More reliable than foxfi for me! Give it a try if you want wifi tether without root
haha nice. I wonder if it VZW can detect this and bill you?
Failed on my sprint version, cool that it works on vzw
I bypass all that and just use FoxFi.

Thanks this worked for me on my unrooted verizon. Does anyone know any other teathering widgets that work? Im not a fan of the icon.
I would just hope this doesnt come back and get billed for it.
I just installed FoxFi and it works good.
Also if you are on the new shared plans, tethering should be "free" now.
i can't believe FoxFi hasn't gotten yanked for VZW customers yet like they did with PDANet
Ok I need help. I have foxfi and the wifi plugin both working. What do you guys suggest I stick with? Am I better off sticking with foxfi, since the other way uses verizon's hot spot?
foxfi works for me, unrooted at&t s3
Does ICS have tracking files like GB that notify vzw about tethering? I remember having to flash a file to remove them.
Also on that note, apparently toggling on the built in hotspot is much easier to track, according to lifehacker... Not exactly sure how FoxFi works but sounds like that might be the "safer" option, despite the cleanliness of just toggling on the built in. Also, I can confirm that using the toggle method works on AT&T as well.
I installed it on my non rooted TMo, and it turns wireless tethering on, what ever that connects to the tether gets directed to TMo to add wireless tethering to my account.
set it up on 2 sgs iii last night, both took a little while to connect my win 7 laptop the first time, but all is good.

They would have a hard time collecting on something you didn't agree to pay for, and you aren't doing anything wrong if it "just works" using a 3rd party app.
Still I just use Wireless Tether.
Tethering sounds great on a "shared plan", but what the heck are you going to do with a gig or two of data?
Wow totally works! Stock Verizon...

Quick question-
I recently went back to stock rooted rom from Alliance because my WiFi went out and I was not able to get it back on anything other then stock.
Unfortunately that means I lost my WiFi tethering. I found FoxFi to work, I just wanted to make sure this didn't incur any extra charges and worked like the in app did for alliance.
I have unlimited data.
Thank you,

I'm in the same boat as you with unlimited. Been using FoxFi without any issues for years now. No extra charges.
Just don't torr 500GB of movies and get red flagged. Any illegal down loading will void the TOS agreement. They will send u a letter.
On a side note, I did ask a friend who knows a guy that works for big red. He said they can see and detect FoxFi traffic in the data packets. Meaning, ya they have programs in place that detect tethering with excessive data usage. So some peps do heavy tethering and nothing happens and verizon knows.
The FCC made a ruling against Verizon in 2012 and is worth reading
The Right to Tether: What the Verizon/FCC Settlement Means to You
and Federal Communications Commission
The fine print is...Verizon's stance. Current customers with grandfathered unlimited data plans still have to pay. Unfortunately, if you want to tether with your unlimited plan, you have to either upgrade your plan to one of the new, Share Everything plans (which include tethering), or pony up $20/mo for Verizon's "Mobile Broadband Connect" service. You can still tether off the books and hope you don't get caught, but if they catch you, Verizon will either sign you up for Mobile Broadband Connect, put you on a Share Everything plan, or terminate your contract.
Basically verizon lost the fight and got spanked / hand slapped. They could go after you under the FCC agreement but their are no reports that has happened.
Just keep your tethering under 30gigs and you be fine.
Okay cool. Thanks for the reply. I Dont plan on using 30gigs anyway. Probably only around 10/month for the next 3 months. Need my laptop and hotel internet is slow as hell.

Its all on your end. Foxfi has been working on 4.3 for almost as long as its been out. Are you using a rom with safestrap? If so did you install the kernel modules? Tether apps need WiFi to work and if your on a 4.3 ROM without modules WiFi won't work.

Well you can just install/reinstall it by downloading a busybox installer from the play store. It doesn't matter because I just remembered you don't need root for foxfi anymore. hope you figure it out.
Foxfi is working fine on 4.3 or 4.4kitkat, you need to enable lock screen and using pin code, it will ask you to install a trust cert and that's it. If you have root, just use wifi tether router app (very clean an simple tethering app). I'm using both and they both working fine.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Foxfi works fine on the S6 edge.
quick question...if you have a standard data plan with wifi tethering included, is there a reason to use FoxFi? or is this only useful for those who are still on an old unlimited plan without the wifi tether option?
Thank you for the update

Does the WiFi hot spot work or just usb?
Awesome!! I was worried about keeping my free wifi with my unlimited data plan. It would suck to pay $700 to keep unlimited data and lose foxfi abilitys. I have a razr hd that I have to click 'install later' every 12 hours to postpone the kitkat update because it stops foxfi. Thanks for sharing the info!!

No foxfi dose not limit or throttle in anyway. The best $10 you'll ever spend. Because you don't have to root you also maintain your warranty. Plus no risk in bricking. I'm on verizon unlimited data plan without paying extra for wifi. I use about 200 gb a month. I have no other option for high speed internet where I live except satilite, and I hate satilite. I've been using foxfi for about 3 years now with no problems.
I have used Foxfi for years now. I had pretty much came to terms with the fact I was going to lose my Foxfi WiFi hotspot when I upgraded to the Galaxy S6.
I went to Verizon today and paid full price for a white 32gb S6, and to my surprise I started up Foxfi and the WiFi hotspot worked first try with no issues!

Thanks! I'm on verizon unlimited too and was worried about being able to wifi tether without root. I'll be getting Foxfi then when my phone gets here next week.
anyone tried using the phone with another network's SIM? and using hotspot on it? On my GS4, I have limited data and therefore free hotspot, but it still runs a subscription check upon launching, which makes it impossible to use the hotspot when another SIM is inserted, this was very annoying when travelling, FoxFi came to the rescue. I was wandering if anyone used another SIM in the S6 and tested the hotspot to see if they fixed that issue.
Is there a way to use foxfi without the use of a screen lock?

It looks like it requires a VPN, which needs to have a screen lock. Good news is the fingerprint scanner works for this, and it very easy.
I know this is a little off topic as far as foxfi is concerned but on topic as far as keeping unlimited data. Has anyone enabled the "advanced calling" yet. I know it dosent cost extra but I am wondering if I turn it on. it is technically a feature so will it take away my unlimited? So far I am loving my s6!

No it will not take your unlimited away, it is just a feature that has to be activated if you want to use the Internet while on a call. I activated it and nothing changed i still have my unlimited.
Hopefully this answers your question.
Good to hear that FoxFi still works. I have it set up but haven't used it yet.
Works Great
Same here foxfi installed and works great. Unfortunately i have to use a lock screen. Currently using the finger print lock and 30 minute to enable the lock. Seems none of the old methods work for disabling lock screen under lollipop.

YES, FoxFi works on the Galaxy S7 Edge. Though I don't have my phone yet (arriving Friday), I went into local VZ store, installed FoxFi from my PlayStore account and confirmed it DOES work with no issues. To my knowledge it shouldn't matter what type of account you have (including unlimited, which I have). I believe it is a function of the hardware. This is why I waited to purchase this phone (and confirm FoxFi) rather than the Motorola Turbo, which does not work with FoxFi.
Great news! Thanks for the replies. Looking forward to picking the phone up
Yes, great news!
Does the msl-apn edit work also?
Do you need to have a hotspot account first?
Then when you use this app, the hotspot data never move?
Actually it's not working for me, in the uk on 3 with unlimited data and I got a message telling me I'd used up my hotspot allowance. Really annoying, I'll need to find an alternative now.
