I have been working on this issue for about 18 hours now and I cannot seem to find a fix. I have searched as many forum posts as I could, aswell as googled more things then I care to explain.
The justs -
Samsung Galaxy S 4G (Was SGH-i997r)
I rooted the phone no problem, went to flash Valhalla - BlackEdition (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404863&page=3) and it worked the first time. However. It changed my phone ID to Samsung Galaxy S 4G (T959V). I had to un-install the rom because it wouldn't allow me to transfer files from my computer to my phone, as well as not allowing me to turn on my wifi.
I used Oden3 to install a new gingerbread kernel. and it took me too the Clockworkmod recovery.
I forgot to backup the original OS before I installed Valhalla - BlackEdition
So the only OS/Mod I have is the Valhalla - BlackEdition on the SD card.
Now for some reason when I go to ROM the Valhalla - Black-Edition it flashes just fine, but soft bricks on the load screen after reset.
What do I do in order to make my phone functional again? PLEASE HELP.

Hello i am new to rooting and roming i have read pretty extensively on android rooting/roming and i have hit a snag. I rooted my samsung cativate using the one click root procedure. i then installed a eclair cognition rom. afterwards i decided to upgrade since my internal sd card was a little cluttered i decided to erase the contents ( i backed them up on my computer first.) the problem started when i installed the cognition rom 2.4 it starts fine then hangs on a blue "cognition"
screen the phone then briefly switches to an unusable unlock screen then back to "cognition" Screen. also the phone vibrates a seemingly random number of times. i have tried to reinstall update.zip on the internal sd but i cant obviously mount it. i was wondering if some wandering specialist/expert could help me out i feel very lost.
P.S before i installed cognition 2.4 i wiped the phone using clockwork recovery.
Post this in the Samsung Captivate forum for more help on this.
I had a similar issue last night. I used Odins one step to restore to JF6. put your phone in download mode first. Search for this - I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0.zip. this will get you back to square one.
PS. search for info on how to for Odin. Here is a address to find a good guide for this as well as a great ROM. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803569 - as a noob to the forum I can't post links... Good Luck!
Forgive the title, I need it to make it interesting to get some views. Now that's said, let me get to it.
I recently tried to flash MIUI onto my Samsung Infuse. I had Infused ROM v.2.2.3. I must have messed up because now I'm having trouble getting my phone to start. When I power on, it briefly shows the Samsung logo (for about 3 sec); then for split second an alternate screen flashes on my screen just before my phone shuts off. Now, I've tried to load CWM(red version) with the 2/3 button technique; however, I haven't been able to get into that GUI.
I have been able to get into the Download screen, for Odin. But, I was hoping there might be some sort of way to solve this problem without resetting my phone to stock.
Questions
1. Can I utilize the Download screen to re-implement or re-flash my ROMs on my phone; without loosing data
2. Is there a way that I can force my way into the CWM GUI?
3 If none of the above are possible, where can I get information Odin for the Infuse; and where can I download the program?
Thank you for reading, and thanks for the help in advance!
Joaquin

I didn't post for as a resource, just thought that if someone knew where to look they'd point me in the right place.
For anyone who might need a nudge; this link will direct you to complete recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
Did you follow the directions exactly as it says? Did you ever get into blue cwm and flash miui a second time?
Sent from my SGH-I997
I wouldn't recommend MIUI to anyone who isn't atleast a little experienced in flashing ROMs, and are sure won't panic if they find their system soft bricked.
went to http://galnetmiui.co.uk/landing/weekly-builds/ downloaded infuse rom using miui build 112230 wiped data, cache, dalvik applied installed galnet miui rebooted does not load stays on samsung logo wiped data, cache, dalvik reinstalled galnet does not work, used blue cwm, returned phone to stock froyo, using odin reinstalled galnet using green cwm, still doesnt work, dont know what im doing wrong, please help, do i need to install gb bootloaders?

Hey im new to rooting, and flashing/installing ROMs. So what happened was i rooted my infuse, installed clockworkmod, and then flashed miui. kinda. it bricked my phone. Luckily i unbricked it with GTG ultimate unbrick thanks to this site. Now my sim card isnt being read, and vibrates non stop. id say 5-10 times a min with screen off it doesnt matter. It was working fine with clockworkmod and everything before i bricked it. What do i do? I even tried the paper behind the sim trick. and no it not on airplane more.my phone doesnt even tell me my baseband, network, phone number any more.

go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
and follow the instructions after downloading the correct zip file, i'd suggest the one with root and 3e modded recovery (so you can go back to flashing rom if you like), and it'll bring you back to stock plus root and with modded recovery, if you dont want to try flashing again then use the 100% stock download, and if you have any questions just let me know, i check this site nearly 24/7
Edit: i would also seggest that if the first time you attempt this it doesn't start up with the first use wizzard then go over and back up all you want to keep and set it to factorey default via settings and format the "usb storage" or internal sdcard, and then try it again
Hey there XDA,
I have a weird problem when using a Samsung Captivate (ATT i897)
I was running CM9 and i wanted to flash Paranoid Android JB rom, so i followed the instructions to the letter(factory reset, and format cache, etc) and a weird problem occurred, everything works perfectly except:
1) i have no lock screen (even though it is check on (slide))
2) no notifications arrive, (i hear the ringtone and all, but it doesnt tell me anything)
3) i hold the home button and no recent menu comes)
i flashed back to cm9 and the problem came with me.
So i OdIn back to stock and followed this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1350266 ) to get root and CWR and went to CM9, it works.
Fast forward one month and i decided to flash Lanight V6.5DD Jelly bean Rom.
The Same exact problem happened, i went back to CM9 and it followed me.
So i want to format everything on my phone using CWR (including /BOOT) and then going in to download mode and using the same method as above as a fresh start ( i have GB boot-loader from Kf1, and two ATT flashes come up whenever i boot my phone up)
maybe if i flash the ginger bread boot-loader again and cleanly (clean format of /boot) then install it will fix it.
.
(QUICK Q: if i format the /boot in CWR can i go into download mode????????)
Hopefully that will fix the problem
i would like to see what is your opinion and expert help.
Sincerely,
Thatguy2007
Good morning,
While not a noob to rooting or flashing (currently active on Galaxy tab 2 boards) I appear to have made a noob mistake, and even though I searched and read stickies, etc - still made the mistake.
I rooted the Rogers Infuse 4G using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248 and it worked without issue.
Decided to try the enable lag fix option - deleted the voodoo file on the sd card, and rebooted the phone. Phone got stuck on SAMSUNG screen (unfortunately - did not notice that the volume was off on the phone) and I did not hear the "voice" telling me what was going on - so rebooted the phone by holding the power button until it rebooted.
Spent a couple of hours after that re-reading, and since I was able to get into download mode - was able to reflash stock package through odin. When the phone did finally reboot (thankfully, as this is my daughter's daily driver) I noticed there was already a voodoo file on the sd card, with another file inside named "logs" Just in case, I deleted that file, and added a new one called "disable-lagfix" as per the original instructions.
Just to be sure - went back and ran the rooting procedure, and can confirm that we have root.
From there, I decided to flash the 100% working CWM Recovery file through Rom Manager - found the details on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107881 and can confirm that after rebooting into recovery - the phone has CWM Version 2.5.1.2
The phone is currently fully functional, no issues with network or wifi, playstore, etc - but would like to know if anyone can confirm that we are good to go should we decide to upgrade to a custom rom. I've done so much reading - that the recovery version confuses me ( red or blue, etc). I realize that some of the threads are back from early to mid 2011 - so not sure if they are still completely valid - so am asking before proceeding.
Phone settings are the following:
Kernal 2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3-CL366622
Build GB.UXKG3
Baseband I997RUXKG3
Firmware 2.3.3
CWM 2.5.1.2
Currently have the voodoo/disable-lagfix file on the sd card
If anyone has gotten this far into the thread - and can offer up some feedback or recommendations - it would be appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Bill
I usually don't trust Rom manager, but if you are able to boot to recovery then I would say you are good.
If you want the red one (don't remember the version) you could flash a custom kernel with sgs kernel flasher (available on play store).
Infusion should work for you

Thanks for the reply - appreciate your time
Guess it's time to turn that volume up, delete the voodoo folder, and cross my fingers....
Just to confirm - do I delete the voodoo folder itself, or the disable-lagfix folder inside the voodoo folder only ?
Again, thanks
:good:
What were you planning on flashing?
You can probably leave it there for now, and after you have flashed then you can dispose of the folder.

First off andros11 - thank you so much for your time in replying to my issue.
My daughter has been looking over the development site - and,
as it stands right now, she has her mind set on the Dark Night Rom by VortexJunior.
Here is the link, if it helps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662280
The install instructions, while relatively simple - and similar to what I am used to doing - but no mention of lagfix
Installation: From Gingerbread
1. Download Zip
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3. Wipe Cache Partition
4. Flash
5. Reboot into recovery(Advanced>Reboot recovery)
6. Flash again
7.BAMM!
Thanks again for your time and replies,
Regards
Once on ICS I don't think you have to mind about lag-fix..
Also, I suggest you just reboot instead of rebooting into recovery. That often causes recovery bootloops.
When you reboot, the phone will hang at the kernel splash screen (this is normal). Just take out the battery, place it back in and boot into recovert with 3-finger combo (vol +, vol - and power, and let go when samsung logo pops up)
My personal suggestion is that you move on to JB. It performs much better, and mostly all development is now there.
Perfect - thanks
Am running CM 10.1 on my tablet, and love it
Will have my daughter research JB ROMs instead.....
Happy Holidays to you and your family

Lag fix??
I am confused.. what exactly is the lagg fix? My GF has a JB (one of phablet ROMS) installed and all the JB ROMS I have installed on this phone (and I think all ROMS besides JB) have had lagg problems. So I would really like to know how to fix this phone.
About that lagfix...
If I remember correctly voodoo lag fix was originally designed for the Galaxy S to change the file system it ran at to something that made the phone feel more responsive and access recourses quicker. It was ported to other ROMs so if a ROM includes it then you're ok to use it but I don't think you can just apply it to any JB ROM. Plus after using a GB ROM with this lagfix for some time, any 4.0 and above ROM I have used after that has been a LOT quicker in comparison. So I would probably look into the way you JB roms were installed maybe do a data wipe/factory wipe in CWM and reinstall the ROM from the beginning. What ROMs are you using exactly?
