Hey I am just learning the basics of smartphones. And I switched from Windows Mobile to my new Samsung Android. Anyways my question is: I have an old HTC Pure. I was wondering if I can use the phone as a wireless router. Use it to get the wifi signal and then connect it to my pc via usb and use the wifi to go on the internet on my pc.
Here are the basics. I have a PC in a room with no phone jack and the pc has no bluetooth or wifi. So I was wondering if I can connect my HTC Pure via usb and use the pure's wifi to brosw the web.
Thanks

I took a 12 hour road trip last week and I had just finished installing my setup to dock and un-dock my Galaxy Tab 7" into my dash for MP3's and GPS nav, now I only have a 1GB plan so I wanted to use my phone's internet for the drive however I could not get the tablet to connect, eventually I figured out that it was related to bluetooth & wifi tether at once, whichever one I try to connect 2nd won't work, so if the phone is connected to my headunit for hands free then I can't connect to wifi tether and if I have the tablet connected to tether first the bluetooth won't connect, does anyone know what would cause that and if there's a way to fix it? I am used the stock ROM rooted.
Hi,
so my scenario is the following:
My PC is connected to the router via cable and has no WiFi connection. My router has wifi, but the connection is very bad in my room.
Is there a way to share the connection of my pc (running win 8 pro btw) via bluetooth (it's onboard) or USB?
Thanks!
edit: Just tested it with my HoX and there I have an option "Internet Pass-Through", which works fine via USB. But on my GNote 10.1 (wifi only) the option doesn't exist...
edit2: I guess I found out what the problem is: It's called reverse-tethering and the problem is, that all tethering options are not available in the systemsettings, because tethering is not available, because it's a wifi only model. On my HoX the option for internet pass-through are in the tethering section, though it's reverse tethering. Any ideas how to get there on the wifi only Note?
Use a second ethernet-slot on your pc, buy an usb-lan-device and connect it via otg and crossovercable.
Or use bluetooth, if your pc support that. (Maybe a cheap usb bt device for your pc?) To share internet on one android device to another via bt is no problem. So it should work te same with your pc. Dunno by windows settings or any third party software.

Allright, I have Bluetooth onboard but can't get it to work, I guess the problem is with windows here. The other idea is very good thanks, I'll try that.

Before buying check for well known usb lan devices. Especially for samsung note, note 2 and up.
How far is the router from your room?

1 floor ~3 walls
The closer I get to the door the better it gets. At the door the router is basically directly beneath. On my couch which is near the door the reception is okay. But in my bed and near my PC (furthest away from door) the reception is very bad or no reception at all.

edit: So, I finally found a working bluetooth driver for my onboard bluetooth and win 8 (it's a P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen 3 btw). The standard win 8 bt driver seemed to lack some features. Okay, now I am able to have a real pairing connection to the GN10.1. I enabled ICS in windows connection option and then tried to do a "connect to personal network" in windows. It fails with no notification at all on the Note. Then I downloaded Bluetooth PAN app from play store. Funny thing is: If I click connect in windows (in the "connect to personal network" window) and shortly after/before click connect in Bluetooth PAN the connection does not fail in windows (it shows as connected), but the Bluetooth PAN app doesn't show any established connection, very weird. I tried the app "BlueVPN", but also no luck. Oh btw I found the following:
Obtain a network connection via Bluetooth tethering
If you have a computer or other device that can share its network connection via Bluetooth, you can configure your phone to obtain a network connection by Bluetooth tethering (sometimes called reverse tethering).
1. Configure your computer to share it’s network connection via Bluetooth. See your computer’s documentation for details on how to do this. Typically, it involves making your computer discoverable via Bluetooth and allowing incoming PAN connections.
2. Pair and connect your phone to your computer via Bluetooth.
3. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
4. Check Bluetooth tethering.
Your phone connects to the Internet via Bluetooth and your computer, and a Bluetooth icon appears in the System bar.
Click to collapse
So I had Bluetooth Tethering enabled all the time. It didn't make any difference, except I got a noticifation "Tethering active" when connected, but I didn't get a reverse tethering.
Next thing I did, I tried connecting to my HTC One X's bt hotspot, didn't work either.
My best guess is still that there are too many tethering options missing due to the fact that it's the wifi only version.
What I'll try next is this. I'll let you know if it works.
edit 2: Oh, I also tried reverse tethering with my HoX to the PC, also didn't work.
Didn't worked because of firewall on windows 8?
Try to establish tethering through ur mobile phone via bt to wifi or [insertnumberhere]G internet.
Maybe in both directions (mobile<->10.1) to see if that works... and to decrease potential ...errrm... fehlerquellen.
Any update on sharing the internet connection of the pc to the note 10.1. I am especially interested in doing it via the USB.
It seems you can update the Note 10.1 via the USB, so it must be possible to connect to the internet via it. I think.
I don't own a Note 10.1 yet, but I am really interested in getting one.
it is old but maybe for some people the first gibt. nowadays it is easier in Windows 6 and above. you'll make it.

I used to use unlock with wifi/skiplock to turn off lock at home, but it is not supported under lolipop.
Smart Unlock in lolipop only give you GPS unlock or BT unlock, no wifi. GPS doenst work if you live in a condo, so BT it is.
Problem is I dont want to buy a speaker for home, and leave it on just to use it as an unlock dongle. I have an iMac and a PC with a BT dongle. Both are on 24/7 at home. Doest anyone know of any app, I could use which would force the PC or iMac to reconnect to the phone, to trigger and maintain unlock while the phone is home.
By default if you connect with BT to pc or iMac there is no hands free type of profile that would maintain connection. All the file transfer profiles, autodisconnect if there is no file transfer. I got BT Auto Connect for android, and it works, problem is it tried to connect as last connected profile, which is file transfer. This makes the computer close connection when there is no file to be sent, and of course the app reconnect. Becomes a loop, and eats battery like crazy. Anyone know of an app that would spoof a handsfree or speaker profile on the PC or iMac to connect to the phone? This will maintain connection, and not kill batterylife.
Howdy ho!
I believe I have a question that many users here and/or in other forums were trying to ask, but failed to ask properly and got an irrelevant answer. I will try to be honest and clear as possible and hope there is a solution.
What do I have:
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 running Android version 7 with unlimited data plan and 15GB mobile hotspot data, a smart TV and a laptop.
What do I need:
Watch videos and surf internet on my PC monitor or bigscreen TV using my phone's unlimited plan.
The problem:
15GB mobile hotspot data aint enough to run my PC. A few Windows updates and one online game update a month about 1-6GB each( I have no clue why game makers have to push huge updates every month, like Guild Wars 2 for example or Eve Online, or simply starting Steam ) tears my mobile data plan apart, and where I live the satellite or dial-up are only means of getting internet, which aren't acceptable. due to lag and download threshold.
The workaround I tried:
Currently I have my laptop connected to TV via HDMA and by sharing my mobile hotspot able to stream YouTube and surf internet, but once 15GB hotspot data is exhausted, speeds drop down to crawling 0.80kbs instead of 4G as a punishment for going over.
So I got the Chromecast device, which is inserted into TV's HDMA port and supposed to connect with smartphone via wifi, but it appeared to me that I am required to establish a connection with another phone or device that is sharing mobile hotspot data or some kind of wifi internet and then Chromecast device can tap into it, which beats the purpose. Why can't my smartphone stream its display content directly to Chrome cast to be displayed on TV/monitor ?
The question:
Is there a microusb to HDMA converter that does not require MHL enabled device (almost all Galaxy Note models have it except Note 5 for some aggravating reason ) ?
Is there another way to connect a big screen to a smartphone to watch videos without burning precious mobile hotspot data?
Why can't I plugin microusb to USB cable from my phone into PC and use it as a mobile network card/router?
Is there a chance for an app that could resolve my issue or am I stuck burning mobile data with my hands behind my back just because mobile internet providers love to sell air?
Thanks in advance and apologize for any negativity, I really feel defeated by getting Note 5 instead of Note 3 which is MHL enabled, but isn't and option for a trade-in...
