[Q] Sharing Connection from PC - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Hi,
so my scenario is the following:
My PC is connected to the router via cable and has no WiFi connection. My router has wifi, but the connection is very bad in my room.
Is there a way to share the connection of my pc (running win 8 pro btw) via bluetooth (it's onboard) or USB?
Thanks!
edit: Just tested it with my HoX and there I have an option "Internet Pass-Through", which works fine via USB. But on my GNote 10.1 (wifi only) the option doesn't exist...
edit2: I guess I found out what the problem is: It's called reverse-tethering and the problem is, that all tethering options are not available in the systemsettings, because tethering is not available, because it's a wifi only model. On my HoX the option for internet pass-through are in the tethering section, though it's reverse tethering. Any ideas how to get there on the wifi only Note?
Use a second ethernet-slot on your pc, buy an usb-lan-device and connect it via otg and crossovercable.
Or use bluetooth, if your pc support that. (Maybe a cheap usb bt device for your pc?) To share internet on one android device to another via bt is no problem. So it should work te same with your pc. Dunno by windows settings or any third party software.
AW: [Q] Sharing Connection from PC
Allright, I have Bluetooth onboard but can't get it to work, I guess the problem is with windows here. The other idea is very good thanks, I'll try that.
Send from my HTC One X - Kernel 3.1.10 - Build 3.18.401.1
Before buying check for well known usb lan devices. Especially for samsung note, note 2 and up.
How far is the router from your room?

1 floor ~3 walls
The closer I get to the door the better it gets. At the door the router is basically directly beneath. On my couch which is near the door the reception is okay. But in my bed and near my PC (furthest away from door) the reception is very bad or no reception at all.

edit: So, I finally found a working bluetooth driver for my onboard bluetooth and win 8 (it's a P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen 3 btw). The standard win 8 bt driver seemed to lack some features. Okay, now I am able to have a real pairing connection to the GN10.1. I enabled ICS in windows connection option and then tried to do a "connect to personal network" in windows. It fails with no notification at all on the Note. Then I downloaded Bluetooth PAN app from play store. Funny thing is: If I click connect in windows (in the "connect to personal network" window) and shortly after/before click connect in Bluetooth PAN the connection does not fail in windows (it shows as connected), but the Bluetooth PAN app doesn't show any established connection, very weird. I tried the app "BlueVPN", but also no luck. Oh btw I found the following:
Obtain a network connection via Bluetooth tethering
If you have a computer or other device that can share its network connection via Bluetooth, you can configure your phone to obtain a network connection by Bluetooth tethering (sometimes called reverse tethering).
1. Configure your computer to share it’s network connection via Bluetooth. See your computer’s documentation for details on how to do this. Typically, it involves making your computer discoverable via Bluetooth and allowing incoming PAN connections.
2. Pair and connect your phone to your computer via Bluetooth.
3. Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Tethering & portable hotspot.
4. Check Bluetooth tethering.
Your phone connects to the Internet via Bluetooth and your computer, and a Bluetooth icon appears in the System bar.
Click to collapse
So I had Bluetooth Tethering enabled all the time. It didn't make any difference, except I got a noticifation "Tethering active" when connected, but I didn't get a reverse tethering.
Next thing I did, I tried connecting to my HTC One X's bt hotspot, didn't work either.
My best guess is still that there are too many tethering options missing due to the fact that it's the wifi only version.
What I'll try next is this. I'll let you know if it works.
edit 2: Oh, I also tried reverse tethering with my HoX to the PC, also didn't work.
Didn't worked because of firewall on windows 8?
Try to establish tethering through ur mobile phone via bt to wifi or [insertnumberhere]G internet.
Maybe in both directions (mobile<->10.1) to see if that works... and to decrease potential ...errrm... fehlerquellen.
Any update on sharing the internet connection of the pc to the note 10.1. I am especially interested in doing it via the USB.
It seems you can update the Note 10.1 via the USB, so it must be possible to connect to the internet via it. I think.
I don't own a Note 10.1 yet, but I am really interested in getting one.
it is old but maybe for some people the first gibt. nowadays it is easier in Windows 6 and above. you'll make it.

Apple Mac and HD2
I can't seem to able to connect the HD2 to my MacBook Pro, other than as a external HD drive. Which is fine for exchanging files, an dI don't need Activesync or the Vista version. But I do want to use it as a modem. Either via Bluetooth, a cable or as Wif Router. And though I am usually quite handy with these kind of things, I can't get any of them to work. So hopefully someone has made it to work, and can let me know the tricks?
Same problem here, but I'm able to connect to my SD card. What I do is to put all the update file in to SD card and run it.
Hello, You should find in the programs on your HD2 one called Wifi Router. Running it, you will be able to choose a name for your network and choose the key (WEP only) Than from your Mac by clicking on the Airport icon, you should see your newly created network under "Devices". Just connect to it with the WEP key you determined and there you go !
WifI router is a great application. Working fine on a MS machine (XP, Vista). But it;s not stable with my Macbook/Apple. It's hard to get an connection (even find it), and only connects for a short time. I have not been able to get one biy in to webbrowser or mail. It just disconnects and says no internet connection...
Sorry to hear that =( Using it on 2 Macbooks without any issues (stable and fast connection)
Works fine for me sorry! Submit it to HTC see what they say...
Same problem here between my new HD2 and macbook pro... Unable to connect to internet using Bluetooth/USB connection. WiFi router connect but internet connection don't work. Any solution? PS : sharing files via USB or bluetooth is possible.
Looks like it is something of the new generation Macbook. Before I bought the apple, i was able to test it in an apple shop. It worked (Wifi Router)! As I said: no USB connection, no BT connection and not via WiFi Router. However it does work as an external Harddisk. It should be the settings in the Macbook to make Wi-Fi Router work! It connects (now and again, but not stable) But no internet according to Safari (for you guys/girls whom still own a dinosaur: that's the browser..). Settings of Macbook Pro???
I'm currently trying to find a way. There is a software called "USBModem" from Mobile Stream that allow Windows Mobile USB and bluetooth connexion for Mac users. I'm working actually with support team (very reactive!) for HD2 to be compatible with this software. Hope they will be abble to make something great
Unfortunately, Mobile Stream Team can't make anything for HD2<=>Mac USB connexion If somebody has a solution...
I started the thread, may be I can end it. Strangely enough, outside of my home Wifi area, I can get the connection between HD2's Wifi router and my Macbook. At home, somehow my HD2 tries to contact at the same the home network, and therefore does not get a stable connection with my Apple. So it's great: outside it works, inside I have a network and no need for tethering...
[Q] Computer internet connexion sharing via bluetooth with android device...
Hi, I'm a happy owner of both a Nexus One and a Nook Color, both rooted and running CyanogenMod. I got a full data access on my mobile so I can tether its connexion to either any laptop (using wifi or usb tethering) or the Nook Color (using wifi or bluetooth PAN). That's working quite fine even though this requires to get a good data signal strength covering the place you are. Unfortunatelly, at work, I almost got no data access. My laptop got full internet access via its LAN Ethernet adapter and has both wifi and bluetooth available. My question is simple : How can I share my laptop's internet access with my android devices using bluetooth ? PS : Even if I can only pair one of the two android devices with my laptop at a time, that still would rock ! Thanks !
Bump... I have the same question and exactly the same situation...!!
I have same problem here. My computer get full access internet via LAN, and just only have bluetooth connection (no wifi). How i can share it? symbian can share bluetooth internet connection with apps called GNUBOX. How about Android? Anyone can help??
I think that you can't use internet over bluetooth, maybe you can try using internet over usb cable - it is supported in newer android updates

Bluetooth tethering not working
The rom is latest stock 4.2.2 and bluetooth tethering doesn't work. I've paired the phone with the laptop (W8 64bit) but from the computer isn't possible to connect via bluetooth. Right clicking on the phone icon under bluetooth devices doesn't give the usual "connect to access point" choice, there's just a direct connect, but it does nothing. I checked then under available services of the bluetooth device (the s2+) and actually I noticed that there is no service related to internet sharing. Of course I enabled bluetooth tethering on the phone. What's wrong?
Bluetooth or usb tethering on wifi version(P900)
Anyone know if it's possible to tether either via usb or bluetooth with the p900? I just want a network connection between the two to use for ssh/telnet with Juice ssh and remote keyboard. I can't use hotspot as I need be able to connect to the internet over my macbook's wifi. Public networks usually don't allow 2 devices to talk to each other so it doesn't work over wifi.
Ignore. For anyone that has this issue on a Macbook you need to go into networks and makes sure that the Bluetooth PAN connects. It doesn't happen automatically as it does for my other android devices The Note Pro is then accessible at 192.168.44.1 Actually I just connected to my phone as the bluetooth was on. So still a question is the P900 capable of bluetooth networking?
I tried the Bluetooth PAN app on the app store and it complains that the executable file /system/bin/pand is missing. Does anyone know of a way to add this in?
In case anyone else needs this USB tethering works fine using Valera1978's port of CyanogenMod 12.1.
[Q] WiFi and Bluetooth tethering
Hi, First, I would Iike to thank you for the creation of this forum and the helpful organisation of it. Now my two small issues: I've a Nexus 7 2013 in my car's dashboard. I've connected my phone (for tethering and Make phone calls via tablet) to it via Bluetooth. Now I've a backup camera that connects via Wi-Fi to my tablet. The problem here is that the camera is not connected to Internet, so my Wi-Fi connection keeps dropping as android don't like to keep connected to connections without internet. Without root, is there any way to solve this? Android asks me if I want to keep connected to this Wi-Fi, even without internet, which I confirm and tick the box to don't ask again, but it keeps asking. When I manage to connect to Wi-Fi, for some reason I loose Internet connection via Bluetooth, as android seems to give preference to the backup camera Wi-Fi. Is there any way to force the Internet connection via Bluetooth only? Thank you so much Andre Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
