I have been searching forums for ways to save money on my phone bill. With the lowest amount of minutes, unlimited text, and a grandfathered in unlimited data (hope that lasts) I was paying 110 a month for Verizon. I like Verizon, and I've used them since I first had a cell phone, so I didn't want to switch. In one of the forums I came across a link for a website called Studentrate.com that offered an 8 - 10% discount on your monthly bill. I figured it couldn't hurt so I joined Studentrate to get the discount. Shortly after joining I received a text from Verizon saying that the discount has been applied to my monthly bill. I'm now saving 11 dollars a month which actually ads up to $132 dollars a year. That gives me a free month. Anyways it worked for me so I figured I would pass it on. Here is the link to the discount

I get a 20% employee disc. Ya think student rate would help me add another 11% off my bill???

From reading the site linked it says it will only be applied to new accounts or new lines and not current customers. Not sure how the OP got a discount on his current account.
Anyway, I already get a great discount from my employer. If it wasn't for the discount I would no way be on Verizon. Man, their prices suck! lol
I'm fortunate. Every company I've worked for in the last 5 or so years has a Verizon discount. 23% off bill and 25% off accessories. Boom!

Verizon got strict with discounts. You need yo show a payccheck stub to get a discount. I get 20% off with my job but I'd like to get the home depot discount they get 25%

I had no idea there were so many discounts. All I know is that I didn't get one through my work. So, if your like me the student rate discount is pretty good.
My family has an 11% discount since my father worked at a real estate office like 6 years ago. Never bothered to let them know he quit... who would?
Thanks for refreshing this idea in my head again... My work said they were setting up a discount. I have to remind them, I could use it i pay some where around $240 for two phones only one on unlimited.... I also have a republic wireless phone that's may be worth checking into if you're trying to save money. If it catches on i think it could change the phone game. They just don't have the phones yet to fill my rom flashing need. My republic phone is $19 a month unlimited talk text web. Runs on wifi and backs up on sprint network. Definitely worth checking into if you can give up the phone hacking passion to save a few bucks or in this case a lot of money

I'm very happy with my monthly bill.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Here's how I'm set up.
4 lines.
1400 shared minutes.
Unlimited text.
Unlimited data each line.
I might just be lucky but I get 20 dollars off each line that has a data plan (promotion). As well as 25% off the main line and 50% off accessories thru work.
I'm paying less than $180. For 4 lines. And unlimited 4g.
It is possible to combine promotions. Not discounts.

It may be $129 tomorrow (Memorial Day) on Amazon for upgrades. Maybe cheaper for new customers. Check it tomorrow. If it is $129, I will probably pull the trigger.

As a new customer for AT&T you are able to use an online promotion that takes $100 off almost any phone as long as you order online. I tried it for the Infuse and it works, but since we're already customers we don't have access to any $100 off promotion. I didn't buy my phone at AT&T so I can't try getting $100 back.

So I called them today to complain about feeling as though I was "slapped in the face" as a loyal customer (been with bellsouth/ATT wireless since 1997). After a little interrogation and some hemming & hawing she gave me the $100 credit (105.42 to be exact). This phone rocks pretty hard with a $100 price tag...lol. I'm glad more of you have called and done the same thing. While I understand the importance of marketing to obtain new business, current customers should not be left out in the cold. ;-)

Spoke to two reps this morning both said no. One regular rep, another was the online rep. The online rep said I should just return my current unused Infuse, cancel the order and line, and re-order a new one for the $99 price since I'm under my 30 days. Made an note of it as well.
I'd loose the activation fee and have to pay another. Any idea's?

Ask for the retention dept, be adamant about the online price and tell them you want the credit. When I called I told them my brother just order the same phone online and got it for 99, the Rep said she couldn't do anything so I asked for a supervisor. He is the one that authorized the credit. Trust me if it comes down to losing a contracted $79 month customer over a $100 credit they will give you a "one time courtesy" credit. You just need to be persistent...

There is no way around the cap. It is done of T-Mobiles servers and linked to your SIM card. Many people have tried to get around it without any luck.

I can dig what you're saying but I'd like to think of it as being resourceful rather than cheap. After all it is android, several exploits and loopholes exist for other devices already. Ill keep fishing and maybe I can figure it out. Maybe IP/MAC spoofing would work to avoid the asshats at T-Mobile.

thats what i did lol theres your throttle fix.
It's not a work-around to the T-Mobile cap exactly. But by fine tuning when and how your installed apps use data, can keep you under the cap. For example instead of streaming podcast with Mediafly I installed DogCatcher. I set the download permissions for the application to only update when connected to WiFi and plugged in.
That alone has cut my data usage in half. Fine tuning other settings in apps like email, facebook and twitter have also cut down my data usage. I went from always bumping the data cap to moving to the next lowest data rate plan.
Something to consider!

im not being cheap at all!! but is it possible i can up to the 10GB/ month? i just started a 2 yr contract 2 months ago and i get capped everymonth so far to 56k speeds...i pay 100 dollars a month and i think thats alot already! thats no fun when i dont get access to wifi everywhete like most of you.
If you change your phone number & get a new SIM chip it resets yer data usage. Setup google voice, get 5GIG plan - wait 2 weeks & spend $15 to have phone number changed and get another 5Gig. Two more weeks, billing cycle starts over, another 5GIG. Wait 2 more weeks and change phone number again - 5 more gig. Repeat every month. If you use google voice then everyone will still have your phone number. I think to get the 10gig plan it's 30 bucks so this saves you 15 bucks a month. Of course its also a huge pain in the ass for 15 bucks.
Lol that's actually pretty damn clever. A huge undertaking, but still clever. Well done.

Sprint is unlimited and true they don't throttle - HOWEVER what they do is kick you off the network and cancel your contract if you use "too much" data. Happened to me a year or two ago.

Yes with 2 year contract! There is one weird thing that happed. I had an older data plan which had unlimited fot $20. It was before the time when T-Mobile introduced 2G/5 and 10GB plans. On all other phones that I had including: Galaxy S and S 4G, Galaxy Nexus, Nokia Win 7 phone and so on, I was able to use Wifi HotSpot with that old data plan. Now when I got HTC One S, it stopped working and every time I wanted to activate hotspot on my phone, a page would open up, stating that I need to pay for $15 extra... So I called customer care and told them the above story. She told me that my plan is old and about 6 months ago the company started to monitor and charge users for hotspot service. She said I would have to pay $35 total. So at the end I made her do it for $20 for 2 year. So now I have new plan with 5GB+hotspot. I think phones with Android 4+ t-mobile started to block users without hotspot plan. So you know.

1000 Talk - $59.99
Unlimited Messaging - $20
3 Phones with 200mb - $10/each ($30)
3rd phone added to line - $10
Total = $120
Do you guys know of a better plan or way to get data on the phone that is unlimited but throttles it if needed?
Well when my wife had T-Mobile the only thing they would offer her when she needed to upgrade was a 2GB/5GB/10GB options. Since they wouldn't let her keep her unlimited, that's the only options I'm seeing via their website still. Either or would be better than 2/300MB.
You could've got unlimited talk, text 4gb 4g a couple months ago. About 70 total.

And once split between me and him it will be about $70 exact a month

Yeah T-Mobile is great when it comes to prices but getting a good plan is hard, you really have to capitalize on offers and stuff.
so I have been looking for ways to keep my Verizon service and my data... this is my plan...Craigslist for a note II...then Verizon has an unlimited month to month for fifty dollars no contract...of course my contract is up... but from what I seen upgrades are about three months before contract expiration...even with my 20 percent discount through work there is nothing cheaper when comparing contracts to prepaid fifty a month
