I'm using the stock messaging app and I'm getting tired of typing in who I want to text only to receive a whole list of facebook people and gmail email addresses.
I only want to see my gmail phone contacts.
I have it set this way under contacts itself.
But going to messaging then the contact lIst from there just lIsts everything possible.
Any way to address this?
Thanks

Right now I'm using Handcent SMS and it's okay but I'm missing a very usefull feature: Marking some text in a recived SMS and send it to another app.
Example:
If I recive a adress then then mark it and send it to maps.
If I recive a appointment then mark it and send it to the calender
Is there an SMS app that can do this? and have all the other great features of Handcent?
I am not aware of an sms app that can do that. There are copy/paste apps that can get addresses over to Nav as a work around though.

I'm using the copy/paste trick now but I think it culd be done easier.
Am I really the first one who thought of this?
I'm not a developer but I think it would be somewhat easy to make.
1. make it possible to mark out some of the text in a sms
2. pop up a menu with options: Save as.., copy, send to..
3. a sub menu to send to where it list the apps that should receive the text. maps, contacts, calender, whatever
Well now the idea is out there, then I home some developer picks it up
Is there a messaging app that is much like the default one?
By which i mean that when i am txted the app recognizes them as someone from my contact list because of syncing with facebook, without actually adding them as a contact.
Is there such an app?
Can u explain what u want to do, write an example? As i understand your question u need kind of magician app which can connect unknown numbers with fb contacts?? -if you already have your fb friends in contact list and they have their numbers written in fb then those numbers are already in your contact list right?

Okay, so. Lets say i get a sms from someone, and they are on my contact list because of syncing it with facebook. But i didnt add their number in the phonebook, i have their number because of facebook.
The stock messaging app recognizes the number as a contact even though i didnt add it manually. Is there another messaging app that does this aswell?
Go sms does. So does handcent. Chomp sometimes does

For some reason my contact picture is just a gray outline of a person in the stock messaging application. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
I have both my Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense accounts linked and synced. Also in the people application may contact card shows my Facebook picture.
Thanks for any help.

My contact picture next to sms.
STEP ONE:
(Skip this step if you allready have a contact for yourself in you address book!)
Add a contact called (Me, Mine, Your Name)"who ever you want" with your phones 10 digit number, Join it with Google, Facebook and set a contact picture just like a normal contact.
STEP TWO:
Navigate to the following:
Menu:
Settings:
Call Settings:
Additional settings:
My phone number:
Enter your phone number "0000000000"
And your Picture from your contact address book will apear next to your sms.
how can i join my contact with my google and FB, they are not shown in all contacts????
Find people menu more check linked option link non linked contacts
Another option people menu view check what contacts you want to see in dialer list u might find duplicates just delete contacts with least updated info

Hello all, this may be a basic android question but i am new to andriod (HTC Thunderbolt, unrooted). The messaging app has three tabs: All Messages, SMS/MMS, and Voicemail. I'm assuming the All Messages tab should show not just SMS/MMS but also emails at the very least but all I get there is SMS/MMS. I have had the Mail app set up and working, and also the Gmail app. Also I have FB and Twitter for HTC Sense both set up (not sure if those post should show up there or not. Is there a setting I'm missing or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the Messages app? Trying to use the full functionality of the Thunderbolt. Thanks for your advice.
The all messages folder is supposed to show sms/mms as well as push messages and visual voicemail messages however I have yet to figure out how to get push messages or what services uses these

Hei,
just a little question, didnt find anything about it maybe i am blind. The nexus 5 only have hangouts as sms app, when someone had hangouts install i only can send him an hangouts message and no sms but i want to send this people a sms. is there an option to switch between hangouts and sms message ?
Thanks
Well yes, you can!
In an hangout conversation click on the name of your contact (at the top) and switch to "SMS".
Another way is to select the "SMS" line when you are looking to someone by using the "+" button on hangout app.
If you can't see the SMS option in the first solution, it probably means that the profil is not full (gmail address + phone number of your contact).
Be sure there is no 2 differents profils for the same person (if yes, you will have to merge them).
Well Sounds simple but didnt work now i have the Gmail and phone Nummer of my girlfriend there but i cant send an SMS :/ when i click on the Name only hangouts is there as message Methode
