Fixing Permissions - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Is there a difference between different apps?
Does it matter if I use ROM Manager, ROM Toolbox, or TW recovery? Or do they all do the same thing essentially?

They pretty much do all the same thing. Just as the term implies fixing permission is changing it from one setting to another. It wont magically fix a broken app but if after flashing a ROM and it does happen then most likely its because of permissions. For example it makes a file be writable or something and if you cant edit a file sometimes an app just doesn't work so thats were you see FC's on a new ROM install without permissions being fixed.

I haven't used rom manager since installing twrp. You can fix perms from within twrp. Imho RM is no longer a necessary app.

RESOLVED [Q] install-recovery.sh Missing

I have rooted my Nexus S 4G and it seems that CW is installed and is stuck but I didnt find /etc/install-recovery.sh and didnt rename it. Will this have an impact if I try to go back to non root?
I have full root access and I have a Custom Kernel installed. I am also able to get into Recovery every time I go into Fast Boot.
I am just curious if not having install-recovery.sh on my phone is something that I should be worried about? Thanks.

I think that non stock ROMs remove the install-recovery.sh script.

Thanks for the responses. I am still running the Stock Google Rom, that was why I was curious. Again thanks for the response.

No, don't use Rom Manager with the SGS4G, it does not work properly and you'll soft brick your phone.
You need to root the phone, then manually push the recovery file into system/bin with something like Root Explorer. If you don't have root, you can try installing Dr. Honk's kernel to get root, or superoneclick.
Well hes on gingerbread unless he gots recovery already which he doesnt then rom manager fix permission wil work

I see, just using fix permissions will work then. otherwise, people need to know not to use Rom Manager for recovery or for flashing roms on the SGS4G

[Q] Is it possible to lose root somehow flashing different roms?

somewhere along the line flashing roms I seem to have lost root access, no matter which rom I use titanium claims I don't have a rooted rom
Do you have superuser in the app drawer check it and make sure it has proper permissions

Little Help...

This is the second time this has happened. I'm using 4.2 camera working fine. But want to install the Samsung camera and galary as well. So I pull the camera app that I want from a zip move it to system apps with es file explorer. Change permissions. Reboot. Clear cache, delvic. Then both times I get stuck in bootloop. Have to pull battery then flash a nandroid. What am I doing wrong?

Jelly Beans 3 didn't post it there because I didn't think it was ROM related. Thought I was doing something wrong.

So you're trying to have both at the same time? It shouldn't be but I wonder if it's causing some kind of conflict. Try deleting the 4.2 camera reboot, then install the normal camera and reboot. If that works then try reinstalling the 4.2 camera and see if it does it again

[Q] touchwiz

Can someone possibly make a touchwiz ROM that replicates some of the basic features the s3/4 has, i.e launcher(if possibly), s voice, and s memo

There -was- a heavily kanged and unstable stock kitchen build similar to what you are looking for... but... well in short, the guy just pulled it a few weeks ago.
You weren't missing anything, it was unstable, unmaintained, and unworth your time to flash.
Your best bet is to find those apk's (launcher, s voice, and s memo) using that nifty search feature and push them to your choice of stock based rom (my preference on that would be tweaked using the stock kernel).
Keep in mind that the launcher won't be perfect (i'm assuming you will end up with smando's).

You have to unzip and install like a normal app I think (it's been awhile).
For the widgets you have to push to /system/app

If you have it in /system/app touch to install it again (seems weird here but it works) - then delete it from /system/app. Reboot.
You should have it there since you installed via cwm zip. Let me know how that works out.

I still get the same error, does it matter what android version I'm on?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using xda premium
Guys... I recommend using Paranoid Android with changing DPI per app. Also some apps aren't going to work because of the framework files... until you go specifically fix the files for each app.

Yeah, since smando's was made for ICS. If you are on JB you need a different version.

Did you push and fix permissions?
That's weird, I've flashed that zip many different times and never had any issue, let alone an imei issue.
