OP, if you want reassurance about SIM unlock - just READ THE DAMN INTERNETZ instead of posting the same 5 times in a row while being told otherwise. This thread is going nowhere. Look for a free unlock for this phone, find nothing, then look for different unlock methods, see that all are permanent. And don't mix it up with other Galaxy S2 variants.
In any case, it's not your problem. Factory reset and wiping data in recovery is exactly the same thing. Use a guide for reverting to stock through ODIN, try to revert to stock in that way. If it doesn't work for you - might be a HW problem. Explain your problem a little bit better, maybe it'll help. Maybe not.

I bought a motorola defy, rooted it, installed CM7.1, and did a lot of things. So i have no warranty.
It asked a password for unlock the phone (that thing with imei, etc) and i trought it was the PIN code, so i tried it many times.
Now my defy is blocked by too many unlocking attempts
No places at my city can solve it.
Is there anything i can do at home to solve that? I already tried factory reset.
Phone: Motorola defy (CM 7.1)
Blocked to Vivo (brasil)
i already got the unlocking code from vivo, but its blocked by too many attempts.
if it is rooted ...
if it is rooted why you dont try to install an other rom ?
system restore? stock rom or falsh a back up of the one you have?
Was the password unlock request from CM? You may need to do a subsidy unlock on your phone if you can access the dialer.
I'm talking that unlock that you request the code using your imei code from your phone...
I'm not talking about the password you choose to avoid people to use your phone.
So, use another rom will solve to problem? i dont think it will if the factory reset didnt solve that.

The phone has to be serviced. No rom or any software update can fix it. There is a special equipment service guy hooks up the phone to to reset sim unlock counter to 0 again. And they charge money for that. You may have to ship the phone if they don't have this service in your town. After that you can enter your unlock code.

Rooting won't solve that!
Maybe a custom Rom could!
You never know until you try!
Btw get a proper code again and unlock it!

Nope. The lock on the sim card is separate from anything the ROM does. You'll have to contact your service provider to get an unlock code. Assuming the phone is legitimately yours, it is a very simple and quick operation.
Hi everyone.
I don't know if its even possible but need to create the SIM CARRIER LOCK again.
When i unlock the bootloader i "erase" the sim carrier lock (guess happen to everyone) and that is awesome but know i need my phone to be carrier lock again.
Don't need that to be forever, i like it unlocked . If that is a way to fake it it's ok but need to be hidden and need to persist after reboot.
I know it's strange but i really need it... I already flash my nandroid backup from the stock rom, flash a stock recovery and lock the bootloader, still unlocked!
Anyone knows how to do it?
Thanks!
(And sorry for my bad English)

By Sim carrier lock, do you want to relock your boot loader or do you want to restrict your phone to using the same Sim as it came with?

Do you NEED to? No, and most certainly not for the uses you've just mentioned.
Should you?
Decide for yourself!

I am sure there are plenty of people that have bought the phone that don't even know xda exist or what rooting/ unlocking the boot loader means which is fine. But since you are here yes do it you won't be sorry.
Follow the above URL instead of using chainfire or whatever Google comes up with in the first search results. It has been causing problems and goofy things.

No you don't and also, no you shouldn't. Not unless you identify the need to. People jump into root for no reason and without understanding. These people often break their phones. Don't let this be you.

Even if you don't decide to root right away, I would suggest at the very least unlocking the bootloader before setting up your phone. When you unlock, it wipes all your data so it's best to get it out of the way before you invest too much time setting up your phone. If you unlock but never decide to root, it's no big deal, but at least you're covered if you do decide to take the plunge.
Hello everyone
Here's my problem and my idea:
I bought T-Mobile Galaxy S7 on ebay about a week ago (Stock QC1 firmware) and now I'm in need of sim unlock, which I can't, my device's unlock fails every time through Device Unlock app
I've searched through the web past two days and found no solution whatsoever. Every service is down for now and I cannot find any ways to unlock my phone.
So, here's what I thought: Maybe here's someone who can actually develop or figure out a solution for this since many solutions are available for S6/S6e and many other t mobile phones, but not for S7.
I can be tester and provide any files/dumps if needed or anything you guys ask.
I believe I'm not the only one with this problem and if we try hard enough, we can do this. Many people can benefit from this also, so let's be useful.
To mods, if you believe this is a wrong place to post this thread, please move it where it belongs.
Thanks to you all.
So your idea is just to look at other device solutions? [emoji1]

I guess that's the part of it
Cheers
We probably wont see a direct unlock solution on these T-Mobile/MetroPCS QUALCOMM based Galaxys for some time. The older models you mentioned are Exynos based CPUs, they are being unlocked all the time. Unlock app or trusted server for imei unlock is our only solutions for now.

I stand with you. I think a bounty would be appropriate. I go loads of s7 and s7 edge to unlock. I may be at a huge loss if no unlock comes

I believe of we have alot of people working toward it something interesting would come out if it. Considering s8 is also there, more people Wil be requiring unlock. It's only a matter of time
Factory reset your phone, then try to use the device unlock. You can select temporary unlock or permanent unlock. Once you are done you will have a sim unlocked device.

Actually, MetroPCS s7 & s7e device unlock is available for $20 and Qualcomm S6 and below is also unlockable, there are many remote unlock services on ebay/various websites for those devices.
I've been* trying to unlock my S7 since April but no luck.
I know this issues with t-mobile Quallcomm Galaxys are about locked bootloader but that's the only thing I found out.
If someone can make bounty pool or something similar, I would gladly participate.

Yup. I'm on android 7.0. I could go back to 6.0.1 too. Why do you think this is a method to unlock? You need to connect to Tmobile database to unlock. Merely factory reset won't do anything. It's all in the cloud

I know, however when I had issues with the device unlock app a fresh install of the latest version worked and I was able to temporarily unlock for a month.
I did it just now after a factory reset, rooted and running no BS Rom...
T-mobile
I went through the same ordeal. I had to actually call t-mobile and get a representative to unlock it using the phone's IMEI number so it could be used on all carriers. Call them, I'm sure they will unlock it for you. That t-mobile unlock app doesn't do anything. Also under developer options, you need to check OEM unlock before you call t-mobile.
-Just my two cents, Bob

Called them maybe 10 times, even used their facebook page. Every single customer representative said phone is fully paid and nothing is blocking it but they can't help me because I'm not actual / original phone owner on their database, and person I purchased this phone from has no idea what unlock is, he's impossible to deal with. Maybe you have any tips for me?
Thank you everybody for taking your time and helping us.

I think you and @boobteg have a paid off devices eligible for unlock. What you need to know ow is that the device unlock app doesn't work on custom roms. It requires a stock rom. There are some of us who are not eligible for unlock.
Any progress?
none so far
