[Q] Flashing to stock - phone force closes process com.android.phone, help

Please bare with me since this is the first time having to post for an issue since I usually find an answer on your forums
So here's the situation.
I bought the photon q 4g lte from ebay and it came with the unlocked bootloader.
Needless to say it was with the stock ics and i tried to find a jellybean update because it wasn't taking the ota and ended up going with cyanogen since i had no problems before. However those phones i had before were with sim cards not cdma.
I found out i couldn't update prl or profile manually without having to do something on the pc.
So after searching left and right i found i could use rsl lite (I used 6.1.5) and eventually found the "stock" file from this post

I did the stock jellybean, got it to go through the process and it booted up with no errors.
However, when it boots into the os it pops up a force close on omadmclient_sprint_dataservice and eventually also on the process com.android.phone.
I tried putting it in airplane mode to see if the service error would go away but it didn't work for the process part crashing.
I tried re-flashing, deleting cache in recovery, doing a data/factory reset in recovery and the one time i was able to do a data factory reset within the settings menu.
I could not find anyone that said they had a rom that worked with sprint and updating prl within the rom, if anyone knows of one let me know and i will flash it through rsd.
Otherwise does anyone have an idea of what could be happening because googling the omadmclient part did not pull up anything specific and pulling up the process issue for other phones has not helped me either.

Was this a hacked GSM phone, or are you using it as CDMA?
I've never heard of people having FC issues after flashing a FXZ from RSD. Which one did you flash? Android 4.1.2 - Sprint US - 9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5 (No simlock) ?
If you are on stock, you should be able to update the PRL within the ROM.

I was trying to use it with cdma network through sprint. and yeah that was the file i downloaded, had to remove the getvar to get it working but flashed with no errors after doing that.
As for updating the prl i can barely navigate through the phone, there is no home page loading and the process pop comes up often enough that its hard to go through the settings

Sounds like something went wrong mate. Are you already activated on Sprint? I don't know if that would matter, it might.
I would honestly redownload and redo the RSD process.

I originally tried to activate the phone through cyanogen and then when the rep said he couldnt do it because of the lack of prl to update within the rom we just setup the activation back on the old phone/ That phone is working on the network.
I re-downloaded the file just in case and re-flashed but same problem. The only thing i thought of was maybe updating the radio but since its a stock rom it should work out of the gate. whats also weird is i tried turning wifi on but it didnt work either.
Anychange you know of a rom that works with sprint. I dont care if its stock since i would probably root later again.

Which one are you flashing?
Try another perhaps...? I honestly have never heard of this. It sounds like the phone might be damaged, or the RSD process just did not flash correctly.
I guess I should ask, was the phone modified at all for the GSM SIM slot mod? I wonder if having a non-Sprint SIM in is messing with it... That is just a shot in the dark.

so far the only rom i tried was 10.1 cyanogen and the stock rom for jellybean. However for the stock rom it doesnt let me downgrade to ics with rsd 6.1.5 do you think if i downloaded an old version i could downgrade to a lower stock rom?

To downgrade to ICS, you need to remove some additional lines. See this post for more information on that.
However, you should be able to update the PRL on either stock ROM.
I think I said this before, but I will say it again. You need to do PRL updates, activate the phone, and get EVERYTHING working on stock BEFORE you flash ANY custom ROM. This is just standard practice - you don't want to put the cart before the horse! Get the phone working, then play with custom ROM's.

[Q] No 4G on Verizon. How do i fix?

So I just got a Razr HD off of ebay to replace my destroyed Samsung Nexus. The first thing I did was root, unlock and then install a couple of custom roms. I never put my SIM card in before until after I installed the first custom rom. In all cases, I have no 4G Verizon service and the signal seems pretty week under 3G.. I've verifed the speeds by running Speedtest to check transfer rates. Has anyone else run into this issue and been able to solve? I've seen some similar posts, but there were no resolution.
Here's what I did:
1) Ran Motochopper
2) Ran Motopocalypse
3) Renamed stock recovery script so that it wouldn't reinstall after every reboot
4) Flashed TWRP 2.5
5) Installed the Unofficial CM10.1 ROM (8/8) .......no 4G
6) wiped, formatted and installed SKRILAX 10.1 8/3 build .......no 4G
7) wiped, formatted and installed EPINTER 10.1 7/11 build ......no 4G
8) wiped, formatted and installed EPINTER 10.2 8/8 build ....error with keyboard so I couldn't get past Google account login
9) wiped, formatted and went back to CM10.1 .....still no 4G
I've messed with changing the mobile network settings.. but none of them seem to matter.
I think its running the lastest Baseband (100730.160.64.15P)
Did I do anything wrong? Or am I missing something here?
Do I need to go a verizon booth and get it activated for my plan?
Should I go try to restore it back to stock?
Please, please, please, please, please someone help me... with sugar on top.

Ok, fixed it myself
Ok, fixed it myself. In case anyone else runs into the same problem here is what I did:
1) downloaded and installed DROID RAZR HD Utility 1.21
a) flashed stock recovery
b) flashed 4.1.2 Stock System (this returned Stock and downgraded by Radio)
c) flashed Motochopper to reinstall SuperUser (even though I was still rooted)
2) Installed Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and backed up my Root
3) Allowed the latest Verizon OTA update
4) Used *#*#4636#*#* to force into LTE only mode
5) SUCCESS!!!
Will probably reinstall TWRP later on hold off on any custom ROMS until they become more official.

Just a follow-up to my follow-up for anyone else who has data issues.
Even though I forced it into LTE mode only to get 4G service, that meant losing voice service. Everything is now working fine after I got a new SIM card from Verizon. Sometimes, the easiest solution that escapes us until the end.

Interesting 1st attempt

Hey guys, I'm new to the community and I just wanted to post my 1st experience with rooting etc and follow up with a few questions!
A bit of background on my device: I've had my NS for just over 3 years now and I just recently decided (when I bought my Xperia V) that I'd like to play around with it a bit. To my knowledge, my device was one of the 1st in the country and a test dummy, and I purchased it from a friend who was working and testing for Samsung at the time. It was not linked or affiliated to Vodacom (who, if I'm correct, was the only network provider to offer the NS in S. Africa) or any other carrier for that matter. So basically due to the lack of link to any carrier, I've never received any updates or notifications to update, and have been running my stock 2.3.5 for 3 years!
Anyway, my story from yesterday was a huge learning experience. I decided that I wanted to root my NS and possibly try out a new kernel before deciding whether or not I wanted to install a custom ROM. I followed this link and managed to root my NS, install CWM recovery and everything was working pretty well using UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.

However I think I flashed the wrong kernel (marmite_v9.1) or for some other reason messed up, keep in mind that I was still running my stock GB which the phone came with. Either way, I was stuck on the Google boot screen for more than an hour. I fired up into fastboot and then recovery, but couldn't boot from there (I just realized that I DIDN'T make an actual backup ). To top it off I wiped the device (another great idea) and the device wouldn't boot into fastboot, giving me a "fastboot mode no boot recovery img" message. Somehow through flashing the CWM I managed to get the device into the correct fastboot mode, and eventually after digging for a few hours I managed to find this (stock?) soju GB ROM download, and managed to flash the boot and system images using fastboot, for some reason " fastboot flash userdata data.img" refused to flash. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478820
Anyway, I managed to get back to GB 2.3.5, but get this, after about half an hour on charge, I was given an update to ICS 4.0.4 which I obviously jumped at, and to top it off, I also have JB 4.1.1 available. My NS has finally seen the light of ICS and JB!!
I have a few questions for those who have used ICS and JB though. On the NS, does stock JB provide a notable difference in battery life and speed? With it's hardware, is it capable of handling ICS and JB effectively?
Also, which version of marmite would be compatible with ICS? From what I've picked up, marmite 9.1 is compatible with JB, but is it compatible with ICS too, and if not, can someone please point me in the right direction for kernel(s) which work with ICS (not just marmite).
Second, are the Oxygen and Rasbeanjelly ROMs still up to date? When searching for Oxygen for NS on the forum, the most recent version I find is this which was posted over a year ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605273

Follow the link in my signature for a ROM review... I've heard debates over the best versions for battery life, but JB in my opinion is far superior to ICS... Oxygen is a great ROM, but it won't get more updates and kernels/mods ect.. Are harder to obtain.. It may be a bit challenging to do, but I'd use 4.1.2 JB (follow my chart) or skip to 4.3 JB (Mokee or Slimbean)

There are stutters here and there. You need to overclock to obtain "optimal" ICS and JB performance. JB is smoother than ICS.

Normally it does not. Unless you select "wipe external sd card"

2. Make a backup, if things go wrong for you, you cause use the backup to restore your phone's original firmware.
3. WIPE DATA/CACHE
4. Flash

It's a nifty little phone. I personally think it's better than a Nexus S but just suffers from the typical Samsung pump and dump routine where they sold all their inventory to the carriers then stopped supporting it with any updates.

Good job! I have 3 versions of the stock ROM available for this device as well, may have been more appropriate for a base, there's stock, stock + root + Busybox, stock + root + Busybox + overclock. Find them here

If the cricket model you have is a GSM version then yes it should so long as its a S730M or S730G. If its a CDMA model then no.

It doesnt take a sim card so no GSM. Is there any other ROMs that you would know of? We are kind of stuck out with this model, it kinda sucks lol.

You may be able to use the same CWM recovery on that model,
you should be able to probably use the same kernel to overclock your model too, and you can probably use the kitchen app we used to cook these different version roms for the 730M and 730G models to do your own custom rom, just remember before you start working, to do a full nandroid backup of the current rom so you can restore it back to the original (mostly stock except for the cwm recovery) firmware if you need to later on.

By any chance this will unlock it or do you know a way for me to get the unlock using hex?

Thanks to doctor evil for this ROM I was able to flash my phone but not before removing more apps (bell apps and oothers ).
I was wondering if anyone was successful in unlocking the tethering? Tried a few things out there and the best I could get was Bluetooth tethering with foxfi.

@doctor_evil: I flashed your set after having played with @atmu5fear's version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673097). I like them both very much and am still looking which one I will keep. I have not wiped data/cache (i.e. Factory Reset) before overlaying your version over @atmu5fear's one, and it did not hurt. I noticed the following:
Flashing your ROM did not again trip the ROM counter after applying the triangleaway script after @atmu5fear's ROM load (it did go off then).
When having a SIM in the S730M and after putting in the phone unlock password, the keyboard stays on top (this does not happen when no SIM is present)
My Battery-drain problem when having the phone powered fully off with a SIM installed is still there. Probably need to await a cooked custom ROM for this to be solved

The Battery-Drain S730M issue has been noticed by quite a few people (TELUS and BELL, both in Canada), and is unexplainable. When the phone is on (with SIM installed), power usage is normal, but when you power off the phone (with SIM still installed) the power-drain goes up dramatically (draining the battery completely within a few hours). When the SIM is removed, or when the battery is removed there is no abnormal drain perceived. The other thing is, that, when the device, with SIM and battery installed, is powered off, both the battery area and the SIM area get warm (not really hot), indicating SIM activity WHILE THE DEVICE IS OFF... Very odd. I am hoping that a new KK custom ROM would fix this issue as both 'custom' 4.0.4 ROMS I have tried now show the same issue, indicating it is either a hardware or a 4.0.4 implementation issue...

I am sorry I never responded back to you. I had my Cygwin install with my kitchen build environment running on a SSD hard drive with my OS and the drive crapped out on me and had to be sent in for a RMA. I had a easus todo workstation backup of my drive I was able to restore, but the backup wasn't current so I lost my kitchen environment. I never tried to set it up again as I had hoped that someone would have ported Cyanogenmod to the phone.
I may give it a try again as I just setup a vmware ESX host server here at home and I can allocate multiple cores and plenty of ram to the linux Virtual Machine I created on it once I figure out the best build environment and how to actually go about building CM successfully. Anyone know of a porting cyanogenmod for dummies guide I can use? LOL

[Q] VZW M8 - Sunshine S-Off - CM12 / GPE / Custom ROMs

I need some assistance please! I am truly baffled by what I am experiencing and would like to know why and hopefully how to fix it. Here's the details:
CARRIER: Verizon
MODEL: HTC One M8
S-OFF: Yes (Sunshine)
ROOT: Yes
HBOOT: 3.19
RADIO: 1.09.20.0926
OpenDSP: 46.2.2
OS: 3.28.605.4
First off, sorry for the book, but I figured more details would be better at this point to figure out what is up, so I appreciate any assistance in advance! PS: I bolded the key items to the story for those that like to skim.
Prior to S-Off and Root, I was on OTA version 4.4.4 waiting in anticipation for 5.0 to come to my device. Was unsure about spending $25 for Sunshine's method, but finally decided to take the plunge. At first things seemed great and very smooth. Following all instructions from Sunshine I was finally with S-Off status. I then used WeakSauce2 to gain temp root of the Stock ROM so that I could install Flashify and TWRP. Rebooted and loaded up TWRP Recovery and completed the first Nandroid. SUCCESS! Next up was Titanium Backup and such and copied everything off to my computer for safe keeping. So far so good and then loaded up a few ROM files and whatnot to the External SD Card so I could start flashing a new ROM. Feeling good up to this point, but here's where the troubles begin...
I have had great success with CyanogenMod in the past on previous devices and always very pleased. I read CM12 for others was great and stable and performed well, so I decided to grab the latest CM12 Nightly and the GApps package. Did the normal Wipe / System Wipe for initial flash of a new ROM and then installed both ZIPs no problem. The ROM boots up and everything seems okay, only I do not have LTE at all, only 3G. I also tried the GPE rom by Digitalhigh and experienced the same thing! Restoring from Nandroid also did not fix LTE, so at this point I got worried I broke my phone somehow.
To make a long story short after lots of testing I found a fix for getting LTE back on my original ROM. I found the 4.4.4 RUU and placed the 1.7 GB zip file (0P6BIMG.zip) on the root of my external SD Card, booted into HBOOT and ran the update. It did it's thing and booted up into the Stock ROM. Still no LTE! So then I found a comment somewhere about once that is done, do a Factory Reset from HBOOT using the Stock Recovery and it is supposed to reset the NV Radio Partition, so I did this and when it booted back up, SUCCESS! I have LTE back.
Once that was done I can now flash GPE, (but unusable because SMS is not working for some reason... I am using Google Voice BTW), so I am back to my original 4.4.4 TWRP Recovered ROM. I tried just for kicks to see if after the "fix" if I could make CM12 work, but again will bring it down to an unworking LTE status. Rinse and repeat the "fix" and got LTE back and did Nandroid Recovery. I paid the money to get S-Off and Root access so I could enjoy the Custom ROM's, but now I feel I am stuck...
All that being said... Can someone please explain to me what is going on?? And is there any way I can fix this so I can use CM12 and have LTE, and even then some other ROMs? I will post in Digitalhigh's forum for resolution to the SMS issue, but I have never had this much trouble with a device before and do not know enough about the different partitions and how they work and such. Any assistance and advice is MUCH appreciated!

I don't know the version numbers you posted from you bootloader off the top of my head but did you update your firmware to one of the unofficial ones around before flashing one of the lollipop roms? Is so, are you sure it took completely as sometimes you have to flash it twice.
Alternatively you could wait for our official firmware to drop any minute now and have pretty good odds of working for you.

Yes I did use official firmware, and flashed twice per recommendations. I have it working with GPE, but every time I flash CM12 it breaks LTE. I have seen articles and posts of others running CM12 on their M8's with VZW and stating "zero issues"... Lack of LTE sounds like an issue to me. So my big question at hand is, why does CM12 break LTE, and is there a fix? Everything else seemed to work great otherwise.

I was reading the CM12 m8 thread earlier this week and many reported that LTE did not work on builds from late Feb. early March. CM12 is in no way stable and results will vary from phone to phone. Even the speaker issues have not been fully resolved. Bummer, because I'd really like it to be more stable.

Thank you for your reply. Definitely wanting CM since I used to run that regularly on my older devices with no troubles at all. The speed and simplicity are what I am going for. Sense is okay, but the difference of less than 300 megs with CM compared to over a gig for stock is unreal. WAY less overhead.
