Hi guys, I really hope this problem hasn't been asked a thousand times previous, although I've read bits online about it,I'm yet to find a solution.
In the process of TRYING to root my desire s, I've managed to unlock the bootloader, but when I run superoneclick, it hangs on step 7 every time(waiting for device)
My hboot is 2.00.0002, hence why I'm trying the superoneclick method. If I was able to downgrade my version, I'd have tried the revolutionary method.
I'm sure there's an easy solution, but at the moment,I seem to be going around in circles.
Any assistance will be greatly received.
Just to confirm, my bootloader is unlocked (highlighted in pink), but I can get no further with attempting to root.
Thanks.

Don't use the super one click. All the above threads are good

Hi guys!
I did some research on how to root the Desire S with Hboot 2.00.0002 and I read that many had problems rooting the phone. I had the same problem since the revolutionary method doesn't support hboot 2.00.0002. This made the process a bit harder.
But here is what I did to root my Desire S:
1. Unlocked bootloader using htcdev.com
(I know that Desire S is not listed but if you use "Desire" it will work.)
2. Downloaded Superoneclick v2.3
(This version is included with zergRUSH and Superuser.)
I connected the phone to the computer in USB Debugging mode and opened Superoneclick. Pressed the "Root" button and the process began. After a minute or two the phone was rooted.
The only problem with this method is that the phone is still S-on. But I think you can flash custom roms and so.
I hope this will help you guys! Good luck

I don't know what the "Begin Unlock Bootloader" button on http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ is meant to do, but I tried clicking it (AFTER logging in) in 3 different browsers and it did nothing.

OK, the answer is that if you access the page at http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ the button doesn't work but if you access it at http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ it does. Terribly designed JavaScript!

Sorry for digging up this old post, I am too suffering from the same problem.
Unable to go past the Step #7 Waiting for device
Looks like manu users are facing this problem (after going through SuperOneClick website), but found no solution.
Currently I have unlocked by Bootloader with HTC-dev, and I want to root my stock rom and back it up before trying any other custom rom.
Any help or suggestions on this will be highly appreciated. This is my first post in xda-developers hope everyone will be kind to me :fingers-crossed:
My Device: HTC Desire S (Android 2.3.5 Stock Unrooted)

If you're just interested in getting an ICS on your device then you can try this steps as you've already unlocked the bootloader the HTC-Dev way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
You can use any ROM as per your choice, my personal preference is Fallout:

Be sure to check and read the threads properly before you jump in.
Note for anyone who can help me: Please let me know if there is a way to ROOT HTC Desire S (HBOOT 2.00.0002) HTC-Dev unlocked, so that I can backup my stock ROM first before trying out the custom ROMs. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Install a custom recovery like 4EXT in the guide you posted and from there flash superuser. I've attached the file you need.
Hi guys!
I hope it's not a problem I opened a new thread but I haven't really found a fully answered topic to my question. (I might be blind, anyway...)
So I own a Vodafone UK Branded HTC Sensation. I am thinking to root the device. I do not want to use any custom rom, I'm happy with the official one (at the moment...) and I would only like to have "ROOT Access". So, am I right that I do not need to "S-OFF"?
In this case as I understand:
1.) I have to unlock bootloader (HTCdev)
2.) Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553 to root the device
Is that right?
After the root had been done, will I be able to remove all the applications, boot image... pre-installed by Vodafone? (Kind of "de-brand" the device) Or will I be able to install a "EU RUU" or only the "Vodafone RUU". I'm really sorry if I'm totally wrong but I have been reading the threads for couple of weeks now and I already got absolutely confused... I appreciate any help, explanation. Thank you very much in advance!

Hi,
From having a quick look at the guide in the link you don't even need to unlock the bootloader via HTCdev. Just follow the guide. I personally unlocked my bootloader and S-off'd via revolutionary.io who did a great job of beating HTCdev to the punch within months of the sensation coming out.
Here's a "Super noob guide to unlocking bootloader and s-off" which may ease your confusion. Although for the HTC Rezound , the concept for all HTC Bootloaders is the same, Just don't follow that guide verbatim otherwise bad things may happen.
You should be able to de-bloat ( probably the search term you want to use ) your rom after root. There's also a guide for carrier unlocking knocking around somewhere which I also did, Unlocking it from 3UK grips
Good Luck
You could have probably asked your questions in the guide thread but meh, no one died and I don't think anyone's losing sleep over this post at least you've spent some time trying to figure it out on your own before calling for help

Hi,
Please check my signature (☺ A great starting point for all new Sensation owners ☺) for a good list of guides to s-off.
I would suggest ganesh or kgs methods.
You will also need to install a custom recovery.
Check out joaquinf's guide to installing 4EXT.

Hi guys, so after having some trouble with my phone randomly rebooting while running ViperXL, I've decided to relock my bootloader, reload the RUU 1.85 firmware, and then re-unlock my bootloader. However, I'm not really sure how to go about doing this.
I've had my phone since it came out on AT&T, and I *think* I was on the 1.85 firmware back when I rooted it. I only recently unlocked the bootloader and installed the ViperXL ROM, so now I'm not too sure as to what RUU I was on before.
So, I have a couple of questions I was hoping somebody would be able to answer:
I looked through the indexed compilation, and I didn't seem to find anything that would help me relock the bootloader. Could someone help lead me in the right direction?
Additionally, on the Stock RUU 1.85 for Cingular forum page, there's a notice saying that it "breaks the current root exploit". I'm not too sure what to make of that, considering that it was last updated in May. However, my phone was rooted back in June-ish, so I'm not sure if that root exploit is the same exploit that they are alluding to. Would i possibly have to re-root my phone afterward?
Lastly, after getting the stock RUU installed, is there a different process that I need to go through to re-unlock the bootloader considering that I was already unlocked before? Or do I need to follow the same exact procedure I did the first time?
Thanks for the help, and I apologize for the length of this forum post.

Your CID should be 11111111, so you can unlock your bootloader again using the same unlock token from your first unlock. You will need HTC drivers installed.
to relock your bootloader,
Fastboot files http://www.mediafire.com/?4dx982z93w8z7wk
download and extract to desktop
open cmd and type cd Desktop
then cd foldername (the folder where fastboot is)
Boot into fast boot on your phone
then type fastboot oem lock

It will break root, but you can get that back with one of the original ways since you will still be on 1.85.
Sent from a slithery smooth phone!
Just flash another rom or wipe and reflash. Ruu will probably not help a random reboot.
Yeah same, I'd try a different ROM without going back to stock just to come to custom ROMs again.

enjoy the read...
A while back I attempted to root my phone on my Macbook Pro. I sort of gave up half way through because I was unable to find a tutorial detailed enough to unlock the bootloader. Basically, what I did was change my CID to 1111111, and then I did a factory reset hoping that to OTA Jellybean update would have been sent out from AT&T. Scratch that.... When I use the CID Getter app, it says that my CID is back to the stock "CWS__001," and now I have access to a computer running Windows 7 64bit... I am using this video tutorial.
I am able to backup my phone two times, but when it tries to fetch my CID, it says that it has already been unchanged. That is as far as I am able to go... I still have the token from when I tried rooting the first time, and htcdev.com has sent me the unlock_code.bin. I tried to just go ahead and run it via command prompt, but it just says "waiting for device." I know that the drivers are installed correctly and up to date, HTC sync isnt showing up in my task manager under processes OR service, the device is in USB debugging mode, I have tried it without disable fastboot before rebooting it in bootloader mode, and I have tried it disabled as well. I am stuck here. Am I going to have to try and flash a RUU or whatever, because I am new to rooting android devices. I am pretty savvy when it comes to this sort of stuff, but I am at whits end... What should I do?
What do you mean by "factory reset"? A factor reset or running the RUU will not change the CID.
It seems you meant to link a video, but didn't, so I'm not sure what procedure or tools you are trying. I would advise trying the all-in-one toolkit to temp root and change the CID: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426
My other advice would be to read up on the actual guides posted here on XDA, rather than rely on video walkthoughs that just spoon feed you the steps without actually requiring you learn anything.
SuperCID doesn't prevent you from getting the AT&T OTA (although root and unlocked bootloader will). So if you've actually changed back to the AT&T CID, it was for nothing.

It's an at&t phone, the at&t CID is blocked by htcdev so you need to get SuperCID before being able to unlock the bootloader. Click the Everything Evita link in my signature and bookmark that thread, it's a resource thread that contains everything you'll ever need. Once you're in that thread navigate to the root section and find the 3.18 root method, this is the only method that'll work with your current firmware. Follow the instructions in that thread and then you can unlock your bootloader.
Once you have an unlocked bootloader you can install TWRP recovery which will allow you to root your stock ROM or install custom ROMs. If you need instructions on this click the How-To Guide For Beginners link in my signature, it's a thread I put together detailing some basic operations. If you have any questions feel free to ask in my Noob Friendly Q&A + General Help thread.

You need to use the correct root method that corresponds to your firmware version in order to change your CID. Trying other methods you randomly Google around for is not going to work.
Use my Index thread, look under "ROOT" and find the method that matches your firmware number (3.18).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
There is not one-click method that works for firmware 3.18. Trying methods that don't match your firmware number is a waste of time.
Also, when asking for help, you need to be absolutely specific as to what you have tried, and what you haven't (including the result such as error messages, etc). If you don't give us specifics, it makes it even harder for us to help you.
Hasoon2000's all-in-one toolkit should work on 3.18. But if this is the one you tried, you haven't told us what happens when you try to use it.
To make it easier, here's the link to the 3.18 root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285086
You'll still want to bookmark the Everything Evita thread linked in my signature.

What the heck is "Jose method"? Again, I think your are fumbling around with methods that aren't even intended for your device or firmware version.
Do you have a working adb environment? What is the response if you use the command:

Come on, you of all people shouldn't be giving attitude to this guy telling him he hasn't searched enough. You've asked me multiple questions that could have been answered if you had searched for the answer, including how to unlock your bootloader, that's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black.
It's easy for you to say unlocking the bootloader is an easy process once you've done it. The fact is that it isn't that simple for someone who is unaware that there are different methods for different firmware versions.

You've been told quite a few times now that you can't unlock your bootloader until you have SuperCID. You need to use the 3.18 root method that I linked you to a few posts ago. Forget about the toolkits, just go to that thread and follow the instructions.

Ok I had the same issue several months ago. I have AT&t One x as well. I noticed I could unlock the bootloader and S-OFF when my phone was carrier unlocked. I used the roadrunner method I believe (it's been awhile). I am certain Timaaaa knows what he is saying, but if you can't find a solution, that may be your other answer as well. Worked for me.
Roadrunner? I don't think such a method exists for this device. You can't get s-off without root, you can't get root without an unlocked bootloader, you can get an unlocked bootloader without SuperCID, the only way to get SuperCID on his firmware is to use the 3.18 root method. Hence the reason that's been stated over and over again in this thread. It's the only solution. Carrier unlocking has absolutely nothing to do with the bootloader unlock / root process.

I really don't know what is the problem
I already install new drivers uninstall the ones from Samsung that I had and nothing
Not even my phone has the option to put it in charge only it has various opcitions but none of them are charge only
What do you mean by "all the exploits"? Which exploits have you tried? Did you try the 3.18 root method I gave you the link to?

Ok I had the same issue several months ago. I have AT&t One x as well. I noticed I could unlock the bootloader and S-OFF when my phone was carrier unlocked. I used the roadrunner method I believe (it's been awhile). I am certain Timaaaa knows what he is saying, but if you can't find a solution, that may be your other answer as well. Worked for me.

I got it....
I uninstall the drivers and install again there's were got the connection and unlocked but it says TEMPERED
Is that ok? Later in the afternoon I'm going to install custom recovery s-off and root
Yeah that's totally normal. I'd suggest you have a look at my How-To Guide For Beginners thread (link in my signature), it has some good instructions on your next steps.

Roadrunner? I don't think such a method exists for this device.

Probably is referring to the Rumrunner s-off method. And yes, carrier (SIM) unlock has nothing to do with bootloader unlock and/or s-off. Probably just a coincidence that that person was able to bootloader unlock after doing SIM unlock.
Thank you very much for the help now I have it everydone unlock, custom recovery, root and s-off.
I was having problems with faceoff to s-off but nothing big
I already have install viperxl with beastmode kernel
