[Q] How to Delete Sync'd + Stock Bookmarks from Browser? - Asus Transformer TF700

running CleanROM 2.4 + Browser2RAM + stock browser. all great.
in terms of browsing, i like my devices discrete. i.e. there's stuff i only want to see on my desktop for work, and stuff i want on my tablet, phone. but now i have like 300+ bookmarks (organized into folders, thank goodness) on my tablet. thing is, i can't delete any of it!
1) at first it appears that i CAN delete bookmarks. but upon reboot, bookmarks are still there.
2) logged into Google Dashboard and deleted synced Chrome bookmarks and disabled this function. deleted some bookmarks, rebooted the tablet, bookmarks still there.
3) disabled com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks. deleted some bookmarks. rebooted. deleted bookmarks still there.
i understand that with Browser2RAM, upon reboot, everything goes back to the original state and ASUS becomes the home page. so why are my bookmarks still there? and better question: how can i delete them?

IDIOT, i am.
Clear Data on Browser
disable Google Bookmarks Sync (though i noticed this seemed to be enabled, regardless) or clear Google Chrome Sync in Dashboard.
done.

Back up bookmarks

Is it possible?
I dont know about any other apps but you can do it with Titanium Backup.
I'm not sure if you use it but the next update of the kitchen will do it.
Typing off the top of my head it should me...
/data/data/com.android.browser/databases/browser.db
It includes bookmarks, history, and browser settings.
Oh, wonderful.
My bookmarks really never change but it's annoying putting them back in all the time. Keeping a backup copy of the browser data should be just what I need, thanks.

ICS 4.0.3 Browser Sync Problems

As you may know Chrome is able to sync all his content with google servers...
ICS can do that kind of syncing too...
I'm getting "problems" with the syncing on the phone... why?
Is this happening to anybody else?
It is happening to me. I can not sync my bookmarks.
I've try deleting bookmarks on Google servers through Dashboard and then re-sync by signing in in the Chrome Option > Personal stuff
I sometimes manage to get some sync but even though I manage to sync all my folders (I can see them all in ICS browser bookmarks), a lot of them are empty.
So the sync kind of works, but somehow stops while performing it, and I don't know at which level: is it during the upload of Chrome bookmarks on the server? Is it between the server and Android?
Finally, when I sync Chrome bookmarks and hit refresh on Dashboard, I've seen different results. Sometimes only 2 bookmarks are synchronized, sometimes 58... i've counted, I have 303, excluding folders.
Please someone help, bookmark sync was the main feature I was expecting in ICS
Sync works great between Chrome and FF using Xmarks btw.
Nexus S i9023 4.0.3 stock
on chrome you can check the sync status by opening this address:
about:sync
I suspect that on the phone I'm not able to sync even a single bookmark as my whole chrome sync is encrypted using a custom passphrase and I cannot find a way to input that passphrase into ICS ...
I don't use a custom phrase. I've just tried with default settings.
1st try: 7 bookmarks uploaded to Google servers;
after deleted uploaded data, I've tried again:
2nd try: 199 bookmarks uploaded.
This erratic behavior is infuriating, I don't understand what's going on. We can't be the only two with this issue...
in setting->accounts & sync->[email protected]

Yes, after like 10 minutes the sync reports the error and is tagged with a red icon

Same here.
I followed your link: about:sync, and I noticed an "Actionable Error" on the top right corner (in full screen): "throttle"
i don't know the conditions which trigger this error, but could it be the reason the bookmarks cannot sync between desktop Chrome and ICS browser?
I've tried a clean sync:
1. Sign out from Personal stuff in Chrome Options
2. Delete Chrome data from Google Dashboard
3. Wait a few minutes and confirm in about:sync that there's nothing synchronized
4. Delete data and cache from ICS browser (in Manage Applications)
5. Sign in Personal stuff in Chrome Options
6. Choose what to sync: I chose only Bookmarks, Encrypt passwords, Use my G. Account PW > OK
It begins to sync. When monitoring about:sync, the error appears: THROTTLED
Can it be the source of our issue?
I use Chrome 16 (no beta, up to date)
EDIT:
I click on sync browser in ICS options, I got no error, but:
* ALL of my bookmarks folders are synchronized: this is good
* SOME of my folders are empty, SOME are full, 1 folder is half full
* It seems to sync in an order. In Chrome, my bookmarks folders are in the bookmark bar: 1, 2, 3, ... 10
* In ICS, the full folder are 10, 9, 8.., the empty are 1, 2, 3...
* One folder is half full, (let's say folder 6)
It seems I had no problem synchronizing folder 10 to 7, but during the sync of the 6th folder, it stopped.
Question: WHY?
at this point I disabled browser syncing and will wait a patch that will allows the user to set his encrypt passphrase
in my case (obviosly) no bookmarks are appearing and that's a good sign as I didn't provided android the key to decrypt the bookmarks

Have you tried delete the account option in Sync Parameters?
I'm not sure if I understood your question.
You mean deleting from within chrome on my pc?
On the PC it appear to be working correctly... and there's no way I'll ever upload my browser data/bookmarks/history using the default settings (no encryption)!!!
In the unfortunate case they are not able to fix the syncing while using encryption I'd rather switch to firefox and use firefox sync
Dont use encryption in Chrome sync for everything, set it for passwords only. Then the bookmarks will sync.
I see... well if that's the only way I'm sorry: I will not push to google my history or my favorites just because ICS is not able to sync encrypted content
I found that I can't change the option of encrypted data types in Chrome.
and the status is Encrypted with Password.
I'm using beta version of Chrome. And Nexus S with ICS OTA. Browser sync error.
Is there anything I can do to sync the bookmark?

Hey,
I finally got it working. I posted a thread on reddit and updated it as the issue was solved.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/nhe8p/issue_with_ics_browse_cant_sync_with_chrome/
In short, the problem seemed to come from the sync process, not from ICS browser. For some reason, it didn't sync properly. The sync "THROTTLED" and wouldn't complete. That's why I saw all folders but not all bookmarks. I reduced the number of bookmarks (I still have 100+) and the sync passed (SUCCESS shown in about:sync in a Chrome tab).
If I remember correctly, I chose to sync only bookmarks and passwords, with an encryption on passwords. But it may work with a full encryption.
Thanks, will check it out
Yup, it seems to be the encryption in google chrome. I couldn't sync my bookmarks with my Nexus S (ICS), so I deleted the sync and started it again, without encryption of the bookmarks, only passwords. Now bookmarks sync again.
Not the best solution, though...

[Q] How the heck do I delete the "Other bookmarks" folder from ICS browser?

Self-explanatory. Since I attempted to sync my Chrome bookmarks with my Galaxy Nexus, now I have this empty "Other bookmarks" folder that is undeletable.
I've tried clearing the Chrome sync on the Dashboard. It doesn't work. The folder will not go away.
I uninstalled Chrome and went back to Firefox because I really didn't like this, but my Nexus never had the damn Other bookmarks folder before now. I want it to be back the way it was, with no Other bookmarks folder.
Any ideas?

Settings - Applications - choose ALL tab - find Internet - press Force Stop - Clear Data.
There you go!

Chrome seems to back history up at Google's, not matter what

Playing a lot with my Nexus 6, I came to want to try Chrome out a bit, for a change from Firefox. And I stumbled on what I consider a very big problem.
All my browsers, I set up to clear history, cache, cookies, etc, as soon as I stop using them. Be it for pr0n, bank managing, or mere general hygiene, I just want the browser to start fresh every time I launch it (I only keep bookmarks and some selected passwords).
Now, with Chrome, there doesn't seem to be any real way to wipe all the crap when exiting the browser. So I started playing with deleting of history, recent tabs and cookie files in /data/data/com.android.chrome/app_chrome, triggered by recent app swipe out (process stop) detection in Tasker. And it worked, for some time.
Problem, after having swiped Chrome out, deleted history files, and checked the history and recent tabs indeed seemed wiped, when tapping on the clock history icon, on the lower right part of the empty home page, then tapped on display whole history (translated from my language; YMWV). But OCD striked out, and I went back to the empty home page, to repeat the same process again. And again...
Until I ended up with the history appearing back, out of seemingly nowhere. So I wiped everything in the app itself (clear browser data), which works OK everytime. And now disconnected the phone from data before wiping the history and co files. And then went back to the history icon routine: now, without data, the history doesn't appear back. Then, I activated data anew, went on the repeated history checking, and bang: history appears right back...
So, when one tampers when Chrome history and co files, it seems Chrome restores those from the Internet, most probably from Google. Even though I set web history to off in my Google settings... Also tried History Cleaner Pro for root app, and end up with the same exact behaviour from Chrome. For what is worth, I use latest everything, factory 5.0.1, rooted, up to date Nexus 6.
Seriously: what's that crap?!?! Do you observe the same behaviour? Do you know of a way to teach hygiene to Chrome? Not sure I'll be touching the thing again though, even with a barge-pole... There may be a way to clean Chrome (would it be manually, in the app itself, which works as far as displaying information from previous sessions), but this experience tends to make me believe Chrome will save the history and all kind of crap at Google's, even if it doesn't display it anymore in the browser, even when you ask Google not to manage your history. And I surely won't have that. Back to Firefox, I am.

Well, I don't care so much about them recording what I do as about them forcefully flinging that crap back at me... that's what annoyed me. Anyway, yeah, stopped using Chrome, and won't go back to it.
I am looking for specific date on History Brower. Dates before and after appear but there is a gap. Any ideas how to restore these missing dates.

Censorship is also a quite a problem. So many search results get axed because the copyright mafia deems its infringing on their multi-billion dollar project copyrights.
Ironically, even Bing fares better than google and bing belongs to mcrosoft.
agreed. I use bing as my default search engine in browsers. As for Chrome, if OP is still interested, and their isnt an browser sync option in settings>accounts>google, you can use an app like disable services to disable com.google.chromesync.... or something along those lines. you'd have to look thru and find it in GooglePlayServices
Are people still having this issue with not being able to clear google chrome browser history on android?
If so, I found a way to clear it. I will be making a video tutorial if interest with this issue is still in demand. If so please don't hesitate in responding.

Bookmark Back Up

In preparation of unlocking my bootloader, I am backing everything up. What I realized today is since upgrading to 6.0, I no longer can back up Chrome bookmarks. It was easy with 5.1.1, but something changed. Are there any recommendations for exporting the Chrome bookmarks?
There really isn't a need. When you log back in, chrome will reload all your info, including bookmarks, passwords and settings.

Not true. Everything was wiped when the bootloader was unlocked. I think what happened is that Google moved the bookmarks for Chrome into the system directory prohibiting access for the unrooted user. I know some people keep all their devices completely synched with Google. and this may not have been a problem if I did the same. I will try to import the bookmarks I backed up just prior to the 6.0 OTA upgrade.
