As you may know Chrome is able to sync all his content with google servers...
ICS can do that kind of syncing too...
I'm getting "problems" with the syncing on the phone... why?
Is this happening to anybody else?
It is happening to me. I can not sync my bookmarks.
I've try deleting bookmarks on Google servers through Dashboard and then re-sync by signing in in the Chrome Option > Personal stuff
I sometimes manage to get some sync but even though I manage to sync all my folders (I can see them all in ICS browser bookmarks), a lot of them are empty.
So the sync kind of works, but somehow stops while performing it, and I don't know at which level: is it during the upload of Chrome bookmarks on the server? Is it between the server and Android?
Finally, when I sync Chrome bookmarks and hit refresh on Dashboard, I've seen different results. Sometimes only 2 bookmarks are synchronized, sometimes 58... i've counted, I have 303, excluding folders.
Please someone help, bookmark sync was the main feature I was expecting in ICS
Sync works great between Chrome and FF using Xmarks btw.
Nexus S i9023 4.0.3 stock
on chrome you can check the sync status by opening this address:
about:sync
I suspect that on the phone I'm not able to sync even a single bookmark as my whole chrome sync is encrypted using a custom passphrase and I cannot find a way to input that passphrase into ICS ...
I don't use a custom phrase. I've just tried with default settings.
1st try: 7 bookmarks uploaded to Google servers;
after deleted uploaded data, I've tried again:
2nd try: 199 bookmarks uploaded.
This erratic behavior is infuriating, I don't understand what's going on. We can't be the only two with this issue...

Same here.
I followed your link: about:sync, and I noticed an "Actionable Error" on the top right corner (in full screen): "throttle"
i don't know the conditions which trigger this error, but could it be the reason the bookmarks cannot sync between desktop Chrome and ICS browser?
I've tried a clean sync:
1. Sign out from Personal stuff in Chrome Options
2. Delete Chrome data from Google Dashboard
3. Wait a few minutes and confirm in about:sync that there's nothing synchronized
4. Delete data and cache from ICS browser (in Manage Applications)
5. Sign in Personal stuff in Chrome Options
6. Choose what to sync: I chose only Bookmarks, Encrypt passwords, Use my G. Account PW > OK
It begins to sync. When monitoring about:sync, the error appears: THROTTLED
Can it be the source of our issue?
I use Chrome 16 (no beta, up to date)
EDIT:
I click on sync browser in ICS options, I got no error, but:
* ALL of my bookmarks folders are synchronized: this is good
* SOME of my folders are empty, SOME are full, 1 folder is half full
* It seems to sync in an order. In Chrome, my bookmarks folders are in the bookmark bar: 1, 2, 3, ... 10
* In ICS, the full folder are 10, 9, 8.., the empty are 1, 2, 3...
* One folder is half full, (let's say folder 6)
It seems I had no problem synchronizing folder 10 to 7, but during the sync of the 6th folder, it stopped.
Question: WHY?
at this point I disabled browser syncing and will wait a patch that will allows the user to set his encrypt passphrase
in my case (obviosly) no bookmarks are appearing and that's a good sign as I didn't provided android the key to decrypt the bookmarks

Have you tried delete the account option in Sync Parameters?
I'm not sure if I understood your question.
You mean deleting from within chrome on my pc?
On the PC it appear to be working correctly... and there's no way I'll ever upload my browser data/bookmarks/history using the default settings (no encryption)!!!
In the unfortunate case they are not able to fix the syncing while using encryption I'd rather switch to firefox and use firefox sync
Dont use encryption in Chrome sync for everything, set it for passwords only. Then the bookmarks will sync.
I see... well if that's the only way I'm sorry: I will not push to google my history or my favorites just because ICS is not able to sync encrypted content
I found that I can't change the option of encrypted data types in Chrome.
and the status is Encrypted with Password.
I'm using beta version of Chrome. And Nexus S with ICS OTA. Browser sync error.
Is there anything I can do to sync the bookmark?

Hey,
I finally got it working. I posted a thread on reddit and updated it as the issue was solved.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/nhe8p/issue_with_ics_browse_cant_sync_with_chrome/
In short, the problem seemed to come from the sync process, not from ICS browser. For some reason, it didn't sync properly. The sync "THROTTLED" and wouldn't complete. That's why I saw all folders but not all bookmarks. I reduced the number of bookmarks (I still have 100+) and the sync passed (SUCCESS shown in about:sync in a Chrome tab).
If I remember correctly, I chose to sync only bookmarks and passwords, with an encryption on passwords. But it may work with a full encryption.
Thanks, will check it out
Yup, it seems to be the encryption in google chrome. I couldn't sync my bookmarks with my Nexus S (ICS), so I deleted the sync and started it again, without encryption of the bookmarks, only passwords. Now bookmarks sync again.
Not the best solution, though...

What's the deal....syncing is sporadic at best.
Anyone know the trick yet?
You need to go into settings then applications and clear all data on browser, then sync and should work fine.

Yup, I have the trick you're looking for. After some trial and error, I figured this out. Its essentially a method by which one can refresh the saved attributes (in this case bookmarks) across all Google/Chrome outlets:
1) On your desktop, open Chrome and sort out your bookmarks as you would like them.
2) Then, in Chrome, on the menu bar under "Chrome", go to "Synced...", and click "Stop syncing this account", and then click the pop up to "Stop syncing".
3) Right after that, in the same location, click "Set Up Sync..." (you'll be prompted to sign in to your Google account, so do it). Once you've signed in, you'll be prompted again; this time, check off the Bookmarks option as the item you'd like to sync (no need to check off anything else. Leave the other option for Google Account password ticked as it was.
4) Click "OK" and presto, your bookmarks will be refreshed across all Google/Chrome devices or browsers. At this point you can check your XOOM to verify that those bookmarks have updated.
Its too bad they don't have a slightly easier option for doing this, but its not bad and it works. And the best part is you don't have to do a thing on the XOOM to make this happen (i.e. no wiping of browser data like saved passwords, etc.) So every time you'd like to tweak your bookmarks, or change the order of them as they appear in your XOOM's bookmark list, I have found that this is the best method you should follow.
Enjoy!

The method I've detailed above is the best way I've found to truly get this to work; I've tried your method with extremely mixed results on many occasions.
EDIT - oh and by the way by your method you'll clear out any saved passwords for websites, etc, so if you want to keep any of those, this might not be a great idea. Just an FYI

ok, tried this and it synced my bookmarks bar and one of my & bookmark folders. Any suggestions for getting the other 5 folders to get synced?
Strange that its a partial sync. Its almost as if the sync process is time limited. Couple more milliseconds and it would be complete. Just speculating
By the way, I did get a full sync a couple of weeks ago. But a FC requred killing the cache and I accidentally killed the saved data too. PITA

Well the only thing I have now figured to do, with regard to utilizing the "Other Bookmarks" folders is to 1) populate your bookmarks bar with everything you'd like, and then 2)long press on the bookmark(s) you'd like to place in the "Other Bookmarks" folder, then click "Edit", and at that point you can select the location where you'd like this bookmark to appear. Once its there, if at any point you want to change the order of any of your bookmarks, you'd have to come back into Chrome on the desktop and take care of it there (followed by the syncing procedure I already outlined). Again, hopefully Google will come up with an easier method than this eventually
I had the same problem and got hold of the developer of chromemarks who informs me that its Google "throttling" the amount of bookmarks synched!
In Chrome, you can you goto the addess "about:sync" (no quotes) and you
should get some stats. Then you look for the "Unsynched count"
My original count on synch start was: 3,085
Mine shows today: Unsynced Count - 2,320
It is generally going down around 50 to 100 per day! So I will be waiting for some months before I get all my bookmarks synched!

You seriously have that many bookmarks? I think you'd be better off with a list of sites on the internet that AREN'T bookmarked, it'd be shorter!

Actually seem to have fixed the issue. There were just a few root folders that were not being synced.. Renaming them on my desktop computer triggered a sync on my xoom.
so the problem is fixed now.
I deleted my chrome sync data from google dashboard and then added I back and xoom now has all my bookmarks and folders
I've been shopping around for a new rom, and I've found that hyper nonsense best suites my needs. However, I can't seem to get my Google bookmarks synced w/ the rom? I've tried both the aosp browser as well as the HTC browser? I've looked under accounts & sync & I have all of my Google options checked? I've also noticed that sometimes, when I install a new rom, (usually) all of my apps are restored from the market without the use of titanium backup, but that doesn't happen either w/ this rom? That's no biggie, as I just use TB, but I thought perhaps there's something I'm missing here? I thought everything (apps, calender , bookmarks, etc.) Was supposed to sync across all devices in ICS?
If anyone knows what it is that I'm possibly doing wrong, I would appreciate some direction. HNS is such a nice light rom, its been doing great on battery, and is very smooth for me even when I under clock. But, I do add & delete bookmarks daily, so I have a lot, and its very important that I have them synced across all of my devices.
Thanks!
i found a solution that worked for me.
1. Turn off all computers on which synching is enabled, except for one
2. Open the google dashboard on that computer.
3. Delete all chrome sync data (your local bookmarks will not be deleted)
4. Wait 10 minutes
5. Activate flight mode on your phone and delete browser data.
6. Reconfigure your sync in chrome on your computer and wait a few minutes for it to be synched
7. Deactivate flight mode on your phone and re-sync browser.
8. Profit!!!
i hope it works for you, too!

Your the man, thank you! I'm going to try this tomorrow though, as I flashed back to virtuous because I had planned on doing a reinstall. I hope this gets it to work though, I'm very impressed w/ how fluid & uncluttered the rom is, & I was running it on its stock kernel @ 1188mhz CPU. Simplicity, w/ battery life & smooth browsing is most important to me. I wish I would've tried this rom sooner.
running CleanROM 2.4 + Browser2RAM + stock browser. all great.
in terms of browsing, i like my devices discrete. i.e. there's stuff i only want to see on my desktop for work, and stuff i want on my tablet, phone. but now i have like 300+ bookmarks (organized into folders, thank goodness) on my tablet. thing is, i can't delete any of it!
1) at first it appears that i CAN delete bookmarks. but upon reboot, bookmarks are still there.
2) logged into Google Dashboard and deleted synced Chrome bookmarks and disabled this function. deleted some bookmarks, rebooted the tablet, bookmarks still there.
3) disabled com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks. deleted some bookmarks. rebooted. deleted bookmarks still there.
i understand that with Browser2RAM, upon reboot, everything goes back to the original state and ASUS becomes the home page. so why are my bookmarks still there? and better question: how can i delete them?
IDIOT, i am.
Clear Data on Browser
disable Google Bookmarks Sync (though i noticed this seemed to be enabled, regardless) or clear Google Chrome Sync in Dashboard.
done.

Hi guys!
Added many calendar entries and then realized that you have added it to the local calendar? Android syncs only the calendar which is connected with your Google Account. So if you want to transfer all entries from local calendar to the Google calendar, you have come to the right place
To achieve this, kindly follow these steps and you will be good to go:good: :-
1. Download this app on your phone - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
2. Open it and go to Calendars Backup--->Backup
3. Chose the file name and start the backup.
4. Then transfer the backup file to your pc. It will be in /sdcard/SmsContactsBackup/calendars
5. Open up the backup file on your pc. I'd highly recommend you to use Notepad++ for this. You will see multiple <Calendar entries at the top of the file. Look for the entry which has this attribute:- account_type="LOCAL"
Note down the _id attribute for this <Calendar entry.
6. Now look for <Calendar entry which has name="[email protected]" attribute and note down the _id attribute. Here xyz is your gmail username.
7. Now open Find & Replace and replace this -
Code:
calendar_id="1"
with
Code:
calendar_id="2"
Here, 1 is the _id for LOCAL <Calendar entry and 2 is the id for your Google Calendar (in my case). It could be different for you. So basically whichever calendar entry is set as local, will be converted to the google calendar's entry so that it can be synced
8. Now transfer the modified file back to /sdcard/SmsContactsBackup/calendars
9. Now open Superbackup--->Calendars and click on Delete all calendars.
10. Then restore the modified backup and re-sync your phone with the google calendar. All your local entries will now appear as google calendar entries and will get synced properly to your account.
Enjoy
Regards,
abcdjdj

Glad to hear that at least someone found it useful.

Yeah this is very useful. I know most people only use the Google Calendar and don't ever worry about this but for the people that don't know the difference and then try to switch devices this is good to know. Great find!
Great thanks, that's exactly what I was searching for !!
You saved me 2hours of re-entering many bithdays and garbage-colection-days
Entries disappear when syncing.
Hello. I tried this one for my dad's Xperia S. All went well up until I tried to sync it with his google account. After it finishes syncing, all the calendar entries just disappear. Help please?
Hello, I tried this method and everything looks like it is working, when I restore the modified backup it says it is updating 601 entries to the calendar, which is about right - but I am still not seeing them on the calendar.
Do most phones not have a method of exporting local calendars which can then be imported to Google Calendars or other calendars?
Easier way to do it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applisto.copyevents.pro
This allows to periodically move events from one calendar to another and, when using it for the first time allows to specify which time frame has to be considered (into the past and into the future).
Copy: events copied from 1 calendar to the other.
Mirror: tracking changes
Move: original event is removed, only left in target calendar.
It is powerful, be careful to read explanations and features.
Xavi
I was unable to get this guide to work at all. However, another suggestion here worked well. The basic idea is to export an existing calendar as an ICS file and then import it to Google (or wherever) using a desktop computer web browser. The free program referenced in that post worked for me. I was able to export a single calendar as an ICS without issue. However, I couldn't use the suggested program to import a calendar; I had to use the Google Calendar website instead.
you can migrate the events you've already entered on the Phone's calendar (to which you've been adding events with the Samsung Calendar App) into Google Calendar for free using a tool such as Calendar Sync Trial. Open the app and go to "Export" to create an ics (iCal) file containing the phone's calendar events, then import that file into a Google Calendar using a browser, or the same app. You can get Calendar Sync Trial from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.icalparse.free

Searched all over the web and can not find any help on this. Just picked up a Galaxy S7 last week and haven't had any issues with it. My internet at work blocks Gmail, Drive, etc. so I have to access everything on my phone. In some cases if I need a file from my Google Drive I have to use my phone (Gmail app) to send it to my work email, download, edit, email back to Gmail, save to Drive. It is a pain, but the only work around I currently know that still works here.
Anyway, I always password protect the files (word or excel files) so they can not be opened (well opened easily) and viewed. This has never been a problem until now. For some reason, when I email the password protected file back to my Gmail and open up the email on the Gmail app on the S7, it will NOT download or save the attached file. I have tried numerous files and oddly, if the file (docx, xlxs, pdf, zip) is NOT password protected, the Gmail app downloads or saves it to my Drive just fine. However, if the file is password protected, it will not do anything. I tap the screen and all the options and it does nothing.
I do not know if this is some security feature built into the phone, or some app, but it is not helping me. I have tried messing with the Gmail app settings and nothing helped. Cleared cache and data for Gmail app didn't help. Uninstall/reinstall didn't either. Any ideas?
Have you tried other email apps? Do files that you send download normally on PC?

Other email apps work and I can download the files fine on a pc. I looked more into it and apparently it's a Gmail android issue. Others are having similar problems so I guess I'll just have to wait until they roll a new update out.
Today i received my fresh oneplus 6 with android pie rom. Actually i have this issue with gmail. Can't download/view pdf attachments even if i have 2 pdf apps (google pdf viewer and adobe reader). Any idea?
