Using atrix 4g lapdock with atrix 2 (ics) - Motorola Atrix 2

As in the topic, I just crossed over to the dark side from Atrix 4G and since I still have ATRIX 4G lapdock I attempted to use it with ATRIX 2.
Of course you have to flip the ports on the lapdock which is by itself just a 15 minute job, however what I am getting now is a vertically squeezed screen, it does not cover the whole screen. Does anybody know if there is a solution to this issue?
If not, will Photon , Bionic or any other lapdock properly work with ATRIX 2 on OTA ICS soft version 67.21.125?

First of all try connecting to a wifi connection, you should get the Webtop screen , it could be you have an entitlement check problem.
Thats what solved mine

Is the lapdock for the RAZR the same as the original ATRIX 4G (OG) lapdock?
Is anyone using the ATRIX 4G lapdock on atrix 2 after the conversion of flipping the USB ports 180 degrees?
Anyone?

The RAZR is compatible with both the lapdock 100 and lapdock 500 pro, I dont believe that there is a "RAZR lapdock". I've heard that the bionic dock is perfectly compatible though, its exactly the same as the atrix 4g dock (except the connectors are compatible with the A2, no modification necessary). I own an original atrix dock with flipped connectors - it works excellent for me. The only thing which doesn't work is audio volume through the dock - its either 100% or completely muted.

No it's Model MOTLPDK100. I've never seen the original, I'm understanding mine is a cheaper version.
Obvious differences are flipped connectors ( I still would love to hear why the jackasses did that) and connectors are on a cable now.
Compatibility is:
PHOTON 4G, DROID BIONIC, ELECTRIFY, ATRIX 2, RAZR, RAZR MAXX, DROID 4
I wish I would have gotten the lapdock 500. Still may do it since the jackasses have discontinued the lapdock concept now.
People still trip out when I make my phone a computer. Only god-like capability missing is ubuntu running in webtop on ICS.

I(and a load of others) had the exact same setup you are talking about. It worked perfectly. If you are on the motorola ICS rom or scv7, its should work without problem.
If you are having problems you need a proper rom, or you did a bad job with the connections, open it up, and shave some more off. Also see your settings>display> hdmi settings if you have the stretching enabled (forgot its name).

What firmware are you on?

AT&T leak #1. It also worked fine on 2.3.6, but it gave warnings about "incompatible dock type" and didn't run fullscreen until after a reboot. But on the ICS leak #1, it works perfect besides the audio volume bug.

Hello fren' same as my problem..using atrix 4g dock was fine with atrix 2 via ics except volume control..is there any thread to solve this bug?? Tq..

You guys know that linux on android is a chrooted environment, and I would guess that the docks do not work the way you would expect. You have to VNC into the linux distro running on your android device.
This is not the same as webtop.
I have not given up on getting ubuntu back and working with webtop on ICS. I am working on so many projects right now, and work is crazy. It will be a little while before ubuntu webtop is back. I would hope to aim for mid Jan. for a working webtop with ubuntu working in ICS, and should work with other roms too, like CM10 and such.

[Q] Using a USB cellular modem with Xoom WiFi

Does anyone know if it's possible to use a USB cellular modem such as the Verizon LTE card (pantech u290) with the USB port on the Xoom WiFi? That would be a really cool ability if it were possible.
I imagine that it COULD work given the necessary drivers and tools. The device would have to be unlocked and rooted, and you would need to load a boot.img with the capability already in place. Beyond USB storage, a driver would have to be ported/written for a device like that.
Given that Verizon is already the mobile data sponsor of the Xoom, and are offering LTE antenna upgrades once its launched in the Xoom, they might have a problem with that.
But yes, it is possible in theory.
The xoom definitely detects a UML290 when it is plugged in via a xoom host cable. This should be very feasible to get working and I'll be looking into it.

There's no difference between using a laptop with an external radio and using a tablet with an external radio. It's not like you're bypassing charges or anything.
If anything, Verizon would be against xooms having a wifi radio at all. But they'd certainly prefer you to use a 3g dongle (which would make them money) than using just wifi.

The problem is that someone will have to take the SDK and drivers from the USB modem manufacturer and adapt them to the Xoom. This is way beyond my skill set unfortunately.
Okay someone must know how to do this. My friend has the Acer Iconia and he was able to get it to recognize a Novatel USB760 modem for Verizon. Some directions are over in the Acer Iconia forum. It running Honeycomb and similar hardware sure someone could get the Xoom working with this.
I'm quite interested in this as well. Is there any guidance on where to look to do this? I am a software developer, although I don't have any experience at building software for the android, but I could certainly come up with something.
the SDK's are usually available on the web site of the modem manufacturers. The big ones are Pantech, Novatel, and Sierra Wireless. They all should have Linux SDK info that should be portable to Android. I'm thinking that if someone wrote an app for this, they could make quite a bit of money selling it on the Android market
Can't you buy something that accepts the USB modem like a router of some sort?
Better yet wouldn't you be able to get a Linux driver for the aircard and hack that some way?

Huawei 3G WCDMA Modem SUPPORT
It's for the viewsonic, but all the 10.1 tabs pack about the same hardware, and it's all Android, or rather linux at this level. You guys might have some luck getting the Huawei sticks working
the carrier's can't detect what is attached to the USB modems. As long as the USB stick is activated with a legit data plan, it should work fine. the key is getting the android drivers together and working using the linux SDKs provided by the USB modem mfgs.
Also...I'm opening up a pool for a donation to any developer that will work on this. I'm putting $50 in.
I would also be willing to donate to get this working.
After a lot of researching, i was very sad i had the wifi only version but after that, i noticed that it was the best option, One Data Plan in your Huawei e5 hot spot and enjoy the connection of simult four devices in the same data plan - all on the go, i have hd2 "Androided" and the xoom wifi.
Enjoying less monthly charges for the hd2 and sharing the xoom. i even though of tethering from my phone but phone data plans are much higher than Data Only SIMs.

This doesn't do me much good unfortunately...still open to paying someone to develop this...or you could build it and launch in the app market. Support for the common ATT, Sprint, and Verizon modems would probably get LOTS of buyers including me. I'd bet there's a good market on all the wifi only tablets for this type of work

Burning CD's with Android

So I've pretty much replaced my laptop with my transformer. Yea my laptop has a 17 inch screen, but to be honest with you its so big I never wanted to take it anywhere! Isn't a laptop supposed to be PORTABLE? I feel like I can (and should) take the TF everywhere. It seems tiny when docked, but just right when used as a tablet.
I love it.
The only thing stopping me from selling my laptop at this point is that I need to burn CD's occasionally. Is there any app out there that can access an external burner so that I can make CD's from music I have stored on my external drive?

Not necessarily at all, not all manufacturers provide Linux drivers for their hardware (Android is linux underneath it all). As well, I'm not sure exactly how Linux drivers work, but each CD burner might need their own set of drivers
If the iso drivers are in the kernel, the system will know about cd/dvd disks and drives. The issues is a program to do the burning.

So I plugged in my external DVD writer, and the kernel currently is not reconigzing it.
So that is step 1, someone adding the drivers into the kernel.
After that, it is simly a matter of re-building cdrecorder and mkisofs for an ARM target and writing a little UI on top of it.

I would dust the laptop back off......There are not enough devs or support for at least another 2 yrs to have a bug free Android OS. Also you have the first model of about 15 major tabs in the next 2 yrs! Just because it has a docking station means nothing. Don't get me wrong i love Android.....but leaving windows 7 and coming up 8????? Not to mention all the bugs because its a "beta" product. Actually i wouldn't even call this Alpha..Android OS should of release a GOOGLE laptop first with all the correct hardware specs and almost bug free before letting anyone put there OS on a tablet and sell it...Every Honeycomb tablet that has been made has issues. And its the hardware not being fully compatible.

If you replaced android with another operating system on your post, that can apply to any OS system on the planet. Be it windows, osx, Linux or what ever a company puts out. Not one OS or hardware is immune. Perfect software only happens when it's on the drawing board. The longer android is out the better it gets..but honeycomb has been out a very short time and is only on 5 percent of the devices running google OS. There are more then enough developers for it.
I'm looking for an external dvd burner to work with the TF also. Seems like a lot of TF owners are looking too. Hopefully someone with xda will develop the software...
Not exactly what you want but it might help
Check out this product.....It adds an extra step and it would be kinda kludgy at best.......It is a standalone cd burner.
http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details/?productid=11177
They also have a DVD burner. There may be others out there as well. I have been wanting this as well and don't really want to spend extra to get the capability right now at least.
Awesome! Definitely a solid solution. And a great idea in general! Thanks for the info

I don't think he's looking to reboot into a full-blown Ubuntu environment (where nothing else works) just to burn a DVD... The whole point of this thread is to get Android-native tools to do the burning - not setup some half-working OS to do the task...
I don't see what the Unix "cdrecord" and "mkisofs" utilities can't be ported over to Android. Although, I don't have the skills to do that, so maybe it's not such a trivial task...

Goodbye Fellow Friends!

Well...
Unfortunately today as i was sending a text message to a friend using the new 4.2 keyboard with flow, a girl came running down the hallway and managed to knock my phone out my hand with her book bag...the end result was not pretty. The phone fell about 5 feet straight face down unto the screen. My otterbox commuter did very little to shelter the phone...and the screen has cracked pretty much everywhere on the right side. The digitizer is completely fine, but the glass is terrible. So...instead of fixing it, or waiting six months for my upgrade eligibility to get a new iPhone 5, (i have an iPad and a MBP, so it would be logical to connect all three, to keep me more organized in school), i called AT&T and they have let me get a new SGSIII for the regular price with an early upgrade...so as Jim did, i seized the opportunity. Just wanted to say thanks to all the great developers we have here, its been a great pleasure, and they've worked their asses off to do some pretty amazing things with this phone. Ill still be around checking stuff out, and if anyone wants anything tested, im willing to use my MB865 AT&T as a guinea pig. My S3 wont be here till Friday or Monday, so after that if any of the developers want anything tested, im willing to run it.
Thanks for everything guys!

Bionick Lapdock

My ATRIX 2 with ICS OTA doesn't want to work with Bionic lapdock: the picture is squeezed vertically resembling 16x9 movie on a 4:3 screen. Is there a fix?
They said that in ICS we can't use lapdock.
At least do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37190597#post37190597
Well, you can use the lapdock, you're just not getting full lapdock functionality. I too have the Bionic dock, so I can't speak for how the Lapdock 100 or 500 work (or the lapdock for the OG Atrix for that matter), but mine does the screen mirror, which is perfectly fine for my purposes. Maybe someone with a 100 or 500 will see this thread and comment on it.

first one, word for word, or as they say, pebcak
As I indicated in my post, it might not work completely as intended, but it does function just fine in mirror mode. I don't believe that it recognizes it as an official webdock, if that makes any sense. So you get the benefit of the keyboard and larger screen, but it also doesn't seem to send the signal to AT&T (or your respective carrier) that you're tethering. Or at least I haven't been dinged yet.
And yes, I am on OTA ICS, rooted, but that shouldn't make any difference for the purpose of this discussion.

I just tried another Bionic apdock and it works fine with the exception of audio not being routed through lapdock speakers. Mirror mode is not a webtop, most phone with HDMI out can do mirros mode. Amd yes the ROM makes all the difference here. Lapdock itself is just a dumb terminal with a battery.
I heard through assisting another user that changing the entitlement check value enabled him full usage of webtop.

Kudos for the link to that thread - I made that quick and easy edit and webtop worked much better, more responsive that way.
It appears that there are multiple Bionic Lapdocks iterations, I tried one that did not work well (screen was vertically squeezed despite trying all settings) with my ATRIX 2 OTA ICS and another (thankfully) that works just fine out-of-the-box. I can't however get my audio to route thorugh lapdock's speakers instead of the phone speaker or BT. ANybody has any ideas or knows about the fix?

So I am bout to get back with Sprint, and the only phone I want is the PQ LTE... because of the keyboard. I've had a Mogul, q9c, and TP2.. and never really wanted this damn EVO 4G [but it was cheap].

Wait a week or two, see what all is unveiled at MWC.
Personally I want to ditch mine for the new HTC One.
That being said, it's still a great phone. Jellybean may or may not come, I don't really care any more at this point. We literally just got GSM CM10.1 (for the people who did the SIM card mod), with a CDMA/LTE version being worked on by two other guys.

I'll wait for that and to see if jb update comes. I hope CM10 for CDMA comes soon.

Any new keyboard phones to be released in the near future? I also return to Sprint next month, and it seems the Photon Q is the only option.

Pretty much. Unfortunately physical keyboard phones seem to be a dying breed... HTC even officially stated they are no longer making them.
Yeah, they are definitely dying out. I've used only keyboard phones on Android, and i even used the old T-Mo Sidekicks made by Sharp... i don't know how others feel, but the Photon Q keyboard is the probably the easiest to type on for me, especially among the Android qwerty's! The one thing i can imagine desiring is for the rows to be staggered more, but even so, i can type really easily on this.
Should I buy a used Photon Q on eBay? I see one with a clean ESN for $175
I've been using a lot qwerty keyboard android phones. And I can tell you that this Photon Q is the easiest to type fast.

Im actually having a bit of trouble getting adjusted to the PQ's keyboard. It is has less spacing and and more keys.
