[Q] Nexus S and windows 8 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed on my laptop windows 8 and seems my laptop now cant recognise my phone as a device. Niether auto install driver works, or disable drivers and reinstall them (just in case something is wrong).
I have 4.1.2 stock rom on my phone and really really want to install drivers so i can root my phone and do stuff. U know
Waitting for ideas and solutions. Big thx!

Download and install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984858
That's all you need. It'll just take you less than 5 minutes to unlock and root your device.

This will work as a driver too?

Yes just click on the "Full Driver Installation Guide Automatic + Manual"
A few clicks to go then you're all set.

BIG thanx
Will try soon

when you're already on step 2, choose PdaNet Drivers.

[ROOT][Windows]Root Pantech Flex on windows !!

hi guys !
i have tested this method on windows 7x64 !
firstly download both these files !
drivers : http://c724062.r62.cf2.rackcdn.com/PantechPCSuite_1.1.1.3437.exe
bin4ry's rooting tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
now install the drivers and connect ur device in mtp mode !
run bin4ry's rooting tool and then you'll see a restore option on your device, just hit the restore option on your device and your phone will reboot twice !
voila !!!
root obtained !
Thanks! This worked for me. I couldn't get it to work in MTP mode, PC data mode did work though.
i helped making the root method for linux but recently bricked my device and so i got a new one decided to use your new method and it worked great man much easier then the linux way lol how did you manage to find a pantech pc suite that recognizes our device that was our issue

It does
Works on XP as well. No drivers needed.
Sadly doesn't work on Windows 8 64bit >.<
Yeah doesn't work on Windows 8. I only have Windows 8 and couldn't figure out the Linux roots.... any alternatives?
i chose no 1,,,,but did not rooot, it say no patch found
So bin4ry says it was successful but my phone doesn't reboot a second time and I don't have su access. I tried superuser and supersu and neither installed and when I install them manually from the play store they through errors. Also, my phone has been running like crap after running bin4ry on it. I'm running windows 7 x64 and I'm not sure what went wrong.
I'm assuming since you didn't specify we are saposed to use normal device type (1) but I'm probably going to have to restore my device to get it to not run totally crappy now.
Is this method still valid for the Pantech Flex. My GF has one this phone and I want to get it rooted for Xposed modules.

[q] help pleasee :/

hello guys, I'm Brazilian and I'm using google translator to make this post.
sorry if I posted in the wrong area.
I have a nexus s, today I went to update it and did a ****ing great, now it only connects in "fastboot mode" which is a screen with the options "REBOOT bootloader" "REBOOT" "RECOVERY" and "POWER OFF"
I try to connect it the pc but he identifies nen, indeed, but it gets even identifies as "unknown device" even doing installations of sdk, samsung drivers, already tried everything.
the model of my nexus s is the i9020
he was with ICS mod9
someone try to help me, I'm desperate because my phone is not nen to begin with.
Anyone know what else I can do?
My operating system is Windos 7 Ultimate x64, does he have any incompatibility be x64 drivers?
What's the problem exactly? Does the phone boot up? Or is it stuck in a boot loop?

hello jj_z1,
thanks for replying,
I was not really very accurate, sorry.
the thing is, he does not start the system, so this is the screen that said,
follows a link to the example, the option button ai when to start the recovery clockwork he does not identify the SD of the cell, as would be usual, you know?
every time I turn it, it is this screen of "fast boot"
do not give out
What do you mean by "update it"? OTA update or did you flash a custom ROM and/or Recovery ?
Did you install "Google USB Driver" in SDK Manager? (If install fails, run SDK Manager as Administrator.)

yes google sdk already installed drivers, all right.
I was trying to install a custom rom, only nen got to copy the rom sd pro, as there appears on pc.
that's my problem, it does not mount the sd because the windows do not want to install the cell, I surely identify if he manages to come install the rom I want
Do you have this installed on your computer?
If yes, and it's configured for your nexus s then just connect your phone to your pc, go to device manager, right click on the unrecognized usb device (if that's the case), click on update driver, then choose manually and navigate to the data/drivers folder where ever you have Wug's tool installed, that should install the correct drivers for your phone. Then use the flash stock+unlock option to restore your phone to stock, then redo everything to install cwm and your custom rom of choice. That worked for me.
Good luck

The only thing I can think of right now is to try using the linux tool if you have access to a linux operating system like ubuntu. From experience, getting a nexus phone recognized by your computer is easiest on a linux machine (you can use virtual box if you don't want to install ubuntu on your computer). If I can think of anything else I'll let you know, if you don't get it fixed.

You can install CWM with this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37893247
then install root with this, see #5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39130435

I just can't install the OMAP4430 drivers as in your guide. I couldn't unbrick my phone either when it was broken. But when I brought my phone to a local service he did it pretty fast. I followed the guide step by step but whatever I do, the OMAP4430 keeps blinking under TI Boards and my windows tries to update the drivers after I install them manually and fails because the device keeps connecting and disconnecting.
I have windows 7 x64 ultimate. Any ideas ?

If OMAP4430 device appears for seconds and then disappear in your Windows Device Manager, run a cmd as an admin and type :" SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 " and press enter, then type :" devmgmt.msc " and press enter. Choose View, Show Hidden Devices, you will see now your hidden OMAP4430 device. You may now proceed to the driver installation)

The reason I have not added this to my guide already is I don't want to write a tutorial on how to use command lines . But, maybe just this little bit is OK .

I did exactly what you two told me. Still blinking in device manager and keeps connecting and disconnecting.
I guess I'll just sell it and buy an S2 or S3. It's too much to do to it even for a simple root. >.<

What version of windows are using? You should see omap device in ghost entries in device manager even when the device is not connected which will allow you to install the drivers properly.
If this still doesn't work for you, I am sure that using another pc will solve your problem.

Yes. I'm not a noob with windows commands and things like this. I did. The sound of connecting/disconnecting persists anything I do. And blinking under TI Boards and Other devices (depends if I install or not the drivers).

Be sure all things LG are uninstalled before starting. Any leftover LG drivers from previous connections of phone to pc will cause driver installation problems. Reboot pc, turn off all antivirus, antispyware, etc. Those can cause files you need to become corrupt or not appear. Then begin again. Check all details carefully. You can also run the command Karim Kahale described to stop the blinking if you can't catch omap4430 when it appears.
Unsigned drivers are a pain to deal with. It's fiddly but once you have it right, you can leave it alone and you will be ready for Fastboot, LG Flash Tool, Smartflash, ADB, or whatever.

If you are following my tutorial then something was missed or skipped.
---------- Post added at 02:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:28 PM ----------
One more thing, run all installers as administrator if your pc account is not set up that way.

I only got my user on PC, so it's administrator. I also ran all installers with administrator rights. I`m not missing and skipping anything and I DO restart everytime it says there. No luck.
Battery out of phone.
Run the command lines Karim mentioned. They must be entered exactly. The blinking will stop and you can proceed with installing omap driver. Then you must disconnect and reconnect again with vol up to let LG drivers take.

It's no Moto G-problem, it's Windows 8.1. This worked for me. But you have to connect your phone to an USB 2.0-port.

After you install this, it'll have two programs listed in control panel. Motorolla Mobile Drivers Installation & Motorolla Device Manager.
You can safely remove motorolla device manager and have the drivers
If @deej_roamer's advice didn't already do the job:
It doesn't matter which mainboard you have, what matters is the manufacturer of your USB-Port. If in device manager you have the mentioned Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller, then you have to change drivers to get fastboot working. At least, that was the case for me.
You can start in the guide with this passage:
Code:
Install your default device drivers (For HTC, Install the HTC Sync Manager, For Sony, Use the ones you got in flashtool, etc)
If you are using Windows 8.1, use this for HTC drivers.
