[Q] Photon Q 4G LTE and Embedded Sim/Taking it abroad - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

My gf has a Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. As we all know, it has an embedded SIM. She is a dual US and EU citizen, so that means alot of travel back and forth. After years, she has finally found a phone she loves, but, unlike my Droid Razr, when we travel she can't just pop a European sim in because of the emedded sim in the Q.
Now, Sprint does have international roaming, but it costs you your kidney. So I've been searching the web for a solution. I have ideas, but, none good. I apologize because some of this has been addressed elsewhere, but, I'm willing to paypal someone a 'reward' if they help us resolve this, and as I think the Photon Q LTE is not the only one with this embedded Sim thing, I think the Note 2 by Samsung is riddled with the same issue. Maybe we would develop a solution the community at large could use.
1. There is a gentleman who installed a sim reader in place of the fixed sim, but his solution seems to have left him with problems, and I;ve never soddered anything in my life.
2. There seem to be websites and apps offering OTA Sim programming for travellers. Is it possible the phone could be unlocked (the internal sim) and programmed for a european carrier via one of these services.
3. Is there such a thing an an external sim reader, which could somehow be part of a case?
Any help is appreciated, and a fully working solution will be rewarded, as much as poor freelancers can provide a reward.

Only promising thing I've seen for the Q is here..

[Q] Electrify on At&T

Help! I am new to all of this. I have a US Cellular Electrify that I would like to use with my AT&T Sim Card. Is there any way to do this and if so can someone please post the exact steps? I have been searching for weeks in the threads about flashing and unlocked bootloaders and I am lost because I don't know how to do any of this! I managed to root the phone and now I don't know what do to next!
Short answer - you can't right now. Any you may never be able to.
GSM on the electrify is already unlocked (just like the Photon on Sprint - nearly identical phone). The problem is the that domestic (read: USA) GSM service providers are locked out at a very low level. People have been working on trying to get it working since the phone came out with very little success so far.
Here is a relevant thread that is nearly dead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447679
It's for the Photon, but since they are nearly identical phones on different carriers it's relevant - much of the progress that is made on Electrify development comes from progress that's made on the Photon.

Samsung Galaxy S3 World Phone

Hi experts,
Here on xda-developers, I read, that if we get the Samsung Galaxy S3, with the Exynos Processors, the APNs can be modified and can be used as a World Phone.
That means, if we are in the US we can use Verizon 4G LTE Network.
If we go to Europe, we can use the local SIM Card and use the local 4G LTE even from a GSM or a CDMA provider.
Here are my questions.
1. Is this possible? Is the information true?
Here is the link for that.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/port-us-galaxy-s-iii-roms-to-other-variants/
If this is possible, can the same be applied to the Snap Dragon Processors?
Swapping the Samsung Galaxy S3 between different carriers, Is this possible?
From Verizon to use it with AT&T and vice versa?
2. There is also a thread which shows that, the Galaxy S3 can now be booted from a SD Card.
Here is the link for that.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ader-released-for-galaxy-s-iii-galaxy-camera/
If that is possible, can the Bricked G3 Phones from Verizon or AT&T can be reused?
Thanks a lot for the answers and sharing of Your wisdom on this.
Peace,
A J.
I'm travelling to Canada next week and am buying a $10 micro SIM card and a $20 prepaid plan from Rogers Wireless.
One of the Verizon Global support team people I spoke to on the phone said that the S3 will work the way you want as long as it has the latest stock JB OTA update. (That's the 4.1.1 / VRBLK3 update for anyone reading this in the future). Most importantly, the patch unlocks the phone to use on foreign carriers, so I was told I was already good to go without any added steps on Verizon's part or mine.
Of course, I'm running a rooted version of VRBLK3. Don't know if that affects global capability, but I'll let you know if this works for me or not in British Columbia.
i dont know if you will get full capabilities in terms of data signal but i know i can get call the text to work. depends on what frequencies the phone has or allows you to have.
look here for some related info.

Reporting back - I was able to get voice service in Canada with a Rogers Wireless SIM, but no data. The pohne couldn't register an APN - couldn't manually enter any information into it either.
So there you go.
how is the 4g service in Canada?

You needed to download "APN Manager Pro" to edit your APN's as per the Global roaming thread in the dev section. You would have had data to some extent had you done this.

[Q] Using Galaxy S III with Chinese SIM Card?

Hello, This is my first post to these forums and I really don't know a ton about Android/phones in general so hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. I will be living in China for the next year and I was wondering how I should go about getting a Chinese SIM card to work on my Verizon Galaxy S III. Do I need to unlock my phone beforehand and does it matter which carrier I use, aka do I need to find a GSM carrier? If anyone has done this before, which I'm sure plenty of people have, any help on which carrier to pick etc. etc. would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Question about Verizon service/plans

*Mods, please move if there is a better place. I normally hang out on the development forums so I'm not exactly sure where to post*
I have a phone that I bought from Verizon and I have kept the unlimited data. I know all about my phone but next to nothing about my service.
My question is specifically about phablets (for example, this) which is basically a big ass phone, or a tablet with cell service, however you want to word it. I'd use it exclusively with bluetooth instead of holding the thing up to my head, don't worry.
I travel internationally and see them A LOT in other countries (they cannot help me though since I need one to use in the US). I am under the impression that VZ will not activate anything I did not buy from them. I don't know how solid this is but every VZ employee I have asked has confirmed this so far. I know in the past that it used to be as simple as switching out the SIM card but doubt this is still the case.
I'm sure there are some hardware specs that I need to look at that would determine the LTE/3G whatever compatibility, but I don't know the terminology. Can you help me out?
Also, I am hesitant to leave VZ because of the unlimited data and the service coverage. I live in mildly populated CT, USA and would welcome a prepaid plan if it was comparable but don't even know where to begin looking.
Thank you in advance - I really don't have anyone else to ask about this stuff.
You will want to look for international versions of the devices you are looking for. These versions carry multiple antennas that allows them to be used in different countries. As far as I know, these phones use SIM cards, which allows you to purchase an international SIM or a SIM in the country you are in, and it should work when you plug it into your device.
Is there a way to check for the antennas in the specifications instead of relying on the seller to accurately sell me the int'l version? How would you go about buying a SIM card?

[Q] Help getting the Motorola q 4gLTE to work internationally

Problem: My partner has the Motorola Photon Q 4G Lte Phone on Sprint. This phone is unlocked software-ware wise and has the antennas to work on Vodaphone when we are overseas in a few months. But, sprint has physically soldered the Sim Card to the mother board of the phone so you cannot remove the sim and pop in a local sim when you get overseas, forcing you to use Sprint's prohibitively expensive international roaming service.
There is a guy who advertises on the web that he can modify the phone from a hardware perspective, but, his service requires mailing the phone to him in another country. I do not think I have the skills to do physical modification to a phone,
I see some software upgrade posts on here relative to the GSM radios, but, they are a bit to technical for me. Happy to have a hardware or software solution to this.
Goal is to be able to put a vodaphone sim or program phone to work on vodaphone, or similar carrier, while over in europe.
Can anyone help?
Well, you seem to already know of the guy who you can send the phone to...
So how did you miss this thread?
Good News !!! SIM CARD MOD IS HERE !!!
You can certainly try the mod yourself, there are some good pictures and information in that thread if you want to.
There is no software way around this issue. The only solution is a hardware one, as shown in that thread.
