In theory is possible. Practically it's impossible without the proper tools (to be read the assembly factory's tools).

But not as much fun!!! :highfive:
In a perfect world i'd like to do this thing
Solder a ram chip on my board! Without loose warranty!
O3D dreaammsss....!
I have the same though. The current specs is good enough but 512MB RAM is not enough to handle multiple task. Especially there is a background task running unintentionally. Hate to hit free Ram apps everytime the phone feel lagging.
If we can increase the RAM or change internal storage, it's must be insanely great.
Try the new ICS rom with OC you will feel the difference..Our phone is performing much faster and handles multiple task without consuming much RAM.
Earlier i had plans for new phone but now i will will this form some more time.
In theory it's possible and not as hard as people seem to think so , if you know what you're doing.

it is time smartphone to get more smart. I was so happy when for a first time I upgraded my 25Mz 80486SX processor with 80486DX4 at 100MHz and put some more SIMM memory. On my older MB all was solder there like on the picture above.
Is it only smd soldering?? Dont need new drivers for de modules or compatibility problems??
AW: Can add or change RAM chip on LG P920?
Dont need to upgrade ram, this phone is fast enough. It has the same hardware like my old optimus speed and there i installed a fully working cm 10, it was incredible how fast this phone was, without any lags. And we are not far away to getting a fully working cm 10. So its better to wait instead of destroying your phone
P.S. im on Darkrooms V2 Rom and i can say my phone is very fast without lags and everything works great

You need proper soldering tool - as in Infrared blowgun and SMD vacuum pick. (Actually, in professional area / business, you get to play with $4,500 to $10,000 worth of SMD soldering toys.)
Also, the RAM is soldered on the top of OMAP4 CPU - I think 2 GB is the maximum as of on-die firmware limitation.
And, you should have correct frequency - 433 to 533 MHz, that's pretty tight tolerance - it's impossibly hard to find Ultra-low voltage dual-channel DDR-II chip with specific solder ball layout specifically for soldering onto the top of CPU substrate - voltage, frequency and pinout of new RAM must be the same as original one.
In other word, if you are not into selling your sanity, buy a new phone with big RAM memory.

This is so true. I underclocked my phone to 768MHz to try out how it would work for a day. I ended up entirely forgetting I had done that until I ran a benchmark.
seeing all this is amazing, I am very tempted to try it out, but this beast is super fast with having to OC it, lol

I don't know if you're right or not but I just flashed the 1.5 kernel and at 1.4 this thing is as fast as a computer..I hope you're right because I don't wanna go back to 1ghz..
Got 2016 quadrant after a reboot which is 300 higher than I got at 1 gig..
http://www.qualcomm.com/snapdragon/specs
Right below the dual core, High performance Smart Phones section. MSM8655 is our processor, it comes @ 1.0ghz, plam pre3 has the same and it comes @ 1.4ghz. The chip can take it but I think it was lowered for battery concern. I notice a lot of speed just flying through different programs when OC to 1.5, it opens them much faster, could be the I/O tweaks as well though. As for PC, mine puts out 42 gflops compared to my phones 49 mflops, still a long way off, thats 0.001% of the processing power. This phone is no slouch, so I guess it speaks more for my computers power.
sweet....im just gonna run it at 1.4 and since i have the 2750 battery i'm not gonna worry about battery life at all. i love this phone right now..

I bought recently a LG P920 and installed ICS using some tutorials from XDA users/developers. Sometimes I feel that the phone is not responding as I want and it should.
Today I installed Android System Info from Play Store and at memory I get the information that the total memory is 410MB... It should be 512MB, right?

Mine is the same. Probably some ram is reserved for the os.
To have a responsive phone, do this:
1. Use 2D GPU rendering.
2. Use swap (you are using it by default).
3. Use the V6 Supercharger script (google it).
4. If you overclocked your processor lower the frequency as it tends to get slow and unstable on higher frequencies.
Can you explain more..please? And how to use swap..v6 supercharger...please please i'm so intereseted. I'm in V6 Experia Rom by optimusRs. Thank you.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
V6 is in android dev/hacks section. Just read the directions. The scripts are good about telling you if you need to do anything first.
I am not familiar with swap
410 MB is system-issued memory from the CPU driver inside kernel and what's little left get assigned to GPU - if you are familiar with nForce chipsets, they work the same way.

but the chipset is not Nvidia.
I know. Still, it work the similar way - the 512MB is halved for separate processors; 410 MB for system and other left for GPU - 512MB DDR-II is what's soldered atop the CPU.
EDIT: If you have done any of PC modding or DIY build, you would know what IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) is, it takes a bit of main RAM (very few IGPs have their own RAM memory), and what you are seeing on your phone is the same thing you would expect from PC with IGP enabled. BTW, IGP sucks, so I personally disabled it and used separated VPU (AMD Radeon HD4670 video card), so I can have back precious bandwidth.

Apparently these screenshots were taken by "some dude" on an AT&T Moto X, to a friend, who then sent them to Brian Klug, a senior editor for Anandtech.
Here are the screenshots:
The phone probably has a Snapdragon 600! Or something similar, because I don't honestly think an S4 Pro could perform that well. Maybe Moto's baked something special just for us!
This will be updated as soon as I obtain new information to add

How does CPU-Z actually ID the hardware? Is the CPU specs ID'd by CPU model number or are they placeholders in this case because it is an unreleased phone?

From what I understand, it actually knows the exact hardware. I mean, worst comes worst, you just download cpu-z and try it on your own device to see if it matches up. I wouldn't think they're placeholders

An Evo LTE wouldn't benchmark like that. If they've done something special hardware/software wise that's something awesome and will probably keep the costs down.

There is many options which should be check,
1-Any antivirus installed on your Device?
2-How you hold your device during game play ! (usually hugging device between hands, and your stress during game cuz ti push it harder, and in this case you help it to get warmer)
3-keep closing background apps which uses much memory.
4-Half an hour game play in that poor non PC device, no (NVIDIA or ATI ) no (Intel Pentium ) must over heat. [ there is no fan inside ]
Finally ---- Do you need to play game in your phone? do not you have any Notbook or PC?

I am worried as my my free ram is always below 400MB only and in fact it never goes beyond 350MB. I am using very less apps that consumes app. See the screenshot below.

So what will u do if u get a free ram of 500 mb or more? 300 mb+ is more than enough for the heaviest task u can do on the phone.. as long as u have no lag u should not be worried about the amount of free ram..

That info was quite useful. Thanks

Sure, let's everybody use 512MB devices then, if it doesn't lag, then you should't worry.rofl
to the OP:
you got lots of stuff running in the background and wondering why you got less free RAM available? cmon.

FIY Moto G is running Android, not WP.So you go use 512MB RAM, we`ll stay and enjoy the show.

Free RAM = wasted RAM..
So better use it than keeping it free.. Device won't run with more free RAM anyway..
Android does decent job to get it free when it needs it..

well it actually depends on the individual whether they need the 1gb or can make do with 512mb. Most of the common people who do not heavy duty gaming and use their phone for everyday activities like checking mail, fb twitter and like can manage quite well with 512mb.

FIY android KK was tested and optimized to run on 512mb ram. That is what made it the budget phone friendly update.
How much free ram do you get on your '1GB' show? 998mb i hope!!

Of course it's individual, thx capt obvious.Doing daily stuff, like those you've listed may or may not do well on 512MB device.Wait, wasn't it individual......nvm
About KK bring optimized for 512MB RAM devices is more like a good wish, rather than reality. How many devices you've seen running KK OOB or updated, that have got 512MB RAM?
And about how much I get on my 1GB show you ask?Based on your posts above I would say "over 9000!" (I hope.....)

Today changed the runtime from dalvik to ART and was really impressed by its ram management. Got 400+ free ...
But as one of user said free ram= wasted ram , so now installing more apps....

i am hearing such good things about ART mode that i am feeling tempted to give it a try.. the only thing thats stopping me though is that xposed won't work in ART mode?
Now that I am using xposed for about a month I can't imagine giving it up for anything!

I didn't see much diference betwen dalvik and art...
Free ram= more loading time for apps to open, sometimes i have only 250 mb of free ram, but when i play some games or heavy browsing (up to 7 pages opened) i have ~530 mb free, so the sistem is pretty optimized, i only exit apps with the home key and never had a bit of lag with this phone. Android will automaticaly close apps to free ram when its needed, so don't wory to much and enjoy the phone
