Logmein for Surface RT - Microsoft Surface

I know that Logmein does not have an app to support Windows RT but I was wondering if any of you great minds can make it work on this machine. I also have a Samsung Ativ 500T with Windows 8 but I want my Surface to be my daily driver. Without Logmein this cannot happen. Not all of my clients allow the port to be open for RDP and we handle a lot of sites.
I can log in with my account but when I attach to a computer (Active X script) it make me type in the words and letters and click the Send button for every action and the screen does not refresh.
Any of you know a work around or how to make this work?
Thanks in advance!

I hope this happens as well.

I've started using Team Viewer Touch on my surface. It seems to work just as well as logmein and as a bonus, it works on a LAN as well.

The problem with Team Viewer is you cannot install it on a Server for free. We handle servers on a daily basis so the Team Viewer option is not feasible unless we want to spend the $3,000 for unlimited installations and we don't just to get Surface RT working.
I know we can wait until Windows Pro, but just seeing if someone has a workaround for now while we wait the 3-4 months for Pro.

I also rely on LogMeIn for my IT business for supporting multiple clients.
My workaround is to RDP into my Win8 desktop at home, then LMI from there. This works great for me, even while WiFi tethered through my LTE phone.

How far are you guys getting with logmein on the RT? I can actually get into my remote machines if I hit the 'click here if you don't see the active x bar'. I lose certain features like switching monitors on dual monitor machines though. I also have logmein central which may be why I have that option?

Logmein.com is unusable on WinRT.

Not completely unusable. I can log on and do most things. Just can't switch monitors and things like that.

I have tested multiple times and it does this awful refresh all the time that makes the screen go white...making it virtually unusable.

Wish I could

I would do that but I am running an iMac at home. I have Windows dual booted on it but I would have to remember to change it to that OS everyday when I left and stuff.
Too much of a pain.

We called Team Viewer and they have a $1,500 option but that is still too much to pay for something that should be so simple to use on the Windows RT device.
If we don't get it running we will just get Samsung Ativ Smart PC 500T's to use. I know they work. I just love the form factor of the Surface.

In think that we will see a version of logmein very soon taking in consideration that they already release join.me

Hope

Yeah I hope so. We really love Logmein otherwise I wouldn't even be asking.

I ended up installing Windows 8 Pro on my bootcamp partition on my iMac and allowing remote desktop. I will just use it this way until Microsoft release the Pro version of the Surface.
The Surface Pro will be the sweetest technical device in a long time.

Sort of related but I have been using my Windows Home Server and it worked great for remote control of my home pc.
All free past the hardware and software purchase. Likely some old ones out there for sale.

If you follow the direction in another thread to add logmein.com to the Flash whitelist, logmein works perfectly in the browser.

Tried that

Tried it and it didn't work. It still has to refresh the page everytime to do anything.
Maybe I did it wrong. Can anyone confirm that it will work correctly just like the desktop would.

Same results for me.

Did anyone get Logmein working with the Flash fix?

Just give it up. ?
LMI will not work properly on RT until we get a native app.

Best VNC and RDP apps

Trying to find both because the rest of the family is Windows-only and I for the most part use Macs. I've tried out the open source client and the one with the ads (don't know names off the top of my head) but neither are very speedy. I know it isn't the network either; it does take a bit to load my dual monitor setup over Screen Sharing on my MacBook but not this long!
Any suggestions?
I tried out Remote RDP lite and it's usable in a pinch but the full version would probably be a bit better.
Check out www.logmein.com ... you can sign up for the free version (LogMeIn Free), and add the client on their PC's, and your Mac.
They just released an app in the market named LogMeIn Ignition ... it is very good. I am sure once it leaves beta it will cost a little bit of money, but IMO it is well worth it. Also the clients can always be free. I have well over 400 clients in our companies account, and I can access all the computers from my Evo.
Sweet, I'll definitely try the LogMeIn Ignition beta when I get my EVO tomorrow... Did you have any trouble finding it in the market? I heard others did...

Best app there is.
LogMeIn was SUPER janky for me.. hiccups, scrolling/zooming isn't smooth..
And refuse to pay for an app to do this, so havent tried that other RDP app.
If you are using standard Remote Desktop protocol with windows, the Remote RDP app in the Market is great. I have the pro version and it does everything I could ever want.
I JUST got my evo today and have not rooted yet.. I went to the market to download the Logmein app (cause i have used their desktop products for years and LOVE them)... and its not there... When you go to their website it says the beta is closed now...
So.. anyone know how i can pull the apk from my Magic?
UPDATE: for anyone in the same situation and you havent rooted yet (cause then titanium backup would be best)... appbrain SHOULD let you reinstall... Am going to try later.
I use XtraLogic's RDP app. Best and only app I have ever bought. Urr... you get the point.
Mod Edit: Removed post Warez and requesting warez is against forum rules first & final warning
I'm trying Remote VNC Pro right now, it seems to be fine but so far i don't know if i can get encryption to work, it only supports either using the VNC server password or the user password for the desktop

No warez (sharing or requesting) allowed. Consider this a first warning.
@op phonemypc, vncviewer, and the $20 remote desktop app on the market are your best choices IMO

Logmein Remote Control "Ignition for Android"

I've been waiting for this app and am not disappointed. What a great way to remote control your desktop. All you need is this client on your Evo and a free account at logmein.com. Total no brainer setup. The App is in the market as of today. Very cool.
This is by far the most underwhelming product logmein has come up with. I was a beta tester and I can tell you I would recommend waiting on this to mature (or not buy it at all).
This app force closes, has a memory leak, sometimes will randomly log me out of my pc, and my personal favorite - restarts my phone at will.
I have tried it with
- stock rom
- rooted rom
- diff evo
- new sd card (for giggles)
- on wifi
- on 3g
To ask 30 bucks for this is absolutely crazy. It's a pitty really. I would almost think about it if it was reliable.
Yeah, seriously, this is one of the worst product ever and definitely the worst ever from LogMeIn.
Everything that fr0st said + the app doesn't even let you use your finger as the mouse. Rather, you have to drag the screen around to your static mouse position... W.T.F!
The web interface for LogMeIn is WAY better than this app AND it's free. $30? Again, W.T.F are these guys smoking...?
I've been satisfied with PhoneMyPC since I got my first Android device.
This was the reply from logmein.
We did make changes after the beta ended. If you purchase the finished product and are still having issues, you can call in to our support team at 1-800-993-1790 to get assistance with resolving them.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Ah, no. Not giving you 30 bucks to call tech support.
I used the beta too and found it difficult to navigate the pc with the static mouse. The 30 dollar price tag is WAY too much for an app in my opinion. Unless it does something amazing.

for those with the technical knowledge and ability, Wyse has a VERY nice RDC/VNC client available. (basically, configure your home pc to accept rdc connections and configure your router to allow the traffic through and viola...direct RDP connection...no logmeinscrewyou needed.)

All those issues pretty much stink. I've been using it for a couple days pretty hard and have not had a single issue....yet. I'm using a rooted 1.47 and have used it on wifi, 3g and 4g without a problem. The screen movement under the mouse takes a little getting used to but I kind of like it now. I'm new to android and have not tried any of the other remote apps but it sounds like I need may to, to get some perspective. For now it is the only way I can run my company scheduling program on my Evo.
What about a remote control software for mac?

I haven't had any force closes with lmi for android and I've been using it for over a month. To be able to remote into the more than 100 pcs that I support, from my EVO, is a huge time saver. Worth the money to me.

Its actually a known issue.

I am just saying I would not recommend it. If it works for you thats awesome. I support clients all over the US and logmein would be a great benefit to me. However even when you contact tech support the tell you "its a new app, give it time". So I am waiting for it to improve.
Also. Please provide the rom your using a point of reference. I would like to do some additional testing.
Whooaa 30 bucks for that program? Hmm maybe a penny is what its worth.

Second the request for a Mac option. So far, LogMeIn is the only one i know of that supports Mac, but if there's another way, I'd love to know!

on the username line - did you enter it like "mydomain\myaccount" or "MyComputerName\MyAccount" or simply "MyAccount".
also, you may want to try connecting via IP address...to eliminate DNS issues.
Got it all sorted out, thanks. Awesome program. WAY better than LogMeIn. Hopefully their price is reasonable when it leaves beta.

Just out of curiosity, what fixed it? It didnt work for me at first, then i set up a desktop password and it worked. My only issue with it is that you log into the computer as another user and cannot use it as to start music and have it played through the home computer.

The Windows Operating System requires a password be used on accounts that allow a RDC session (just a baseline level of security).
not sure about your last sentence.
- my assumption is that you are remoting into your desktop...double clicking on MediaPlayer...and not hearing anything on your EVO....i would expect that behavior.
- if you wish to stream audio from your home pc then you'll need an application designed to that.
- if you meant that you basically wanted to be able to scare your girlfriend by remoting in and turning on winamp with some deathmetal...you should be able to do that, but i have not tested it.
and yes, i pray they provide pleasant pricing for the product.
I just logged in using 3G instead of WiFi (so off the network) and it worked fine.

Remote Desktop made easy on G-Tab

I found an easy way to do remote desktop with the G-Tab to my PC....

alternatively you can install Team Viewer on your pc and then their app on your tab and you now have full access to your pc remotely. Like this the best. can login and help friends and family on their pc's too and they only need to run a temporary program with nothing to install. Also has a great web interface to access from any computer running mac, win, or linux. Switched from logmein about 6 months ago and never looked back. The app runs fairly well on the tab.

I just installed the team viewer app today. Wasn't worth it on my droid-X (can't believe i'm saying this but the screen is too small on the X for it) but its one of the make or break features I needed in a tablet. Navigating takes getting used to though.
Yeah it did take a few moments to get use to how to move the mouse around and click or double click on the touch screen but once I got the hang of it it's OK...

I’ve tried some of the free options and I personally didn’t like the idea of needing software on my pc. I wanted a Real RDP client the best thing I have found that fit my needs was Pocket Cloud Pro. It’s not cheap it’s like $15 in the market but it is the most robust option by far.
Another option is WYSE PocketCloud. I use it and it seems to work fine as well. Also FREE.

LogMeIn Ignition
TeamViewer is a great tool but it is crazy expensive (Over $900). Since I need it for work I decided to use LogMeIn Ignition which is less than $40. I don't miss any features TeamViewer may have had as LogMeIn has everything I use. It's great and it's affordable. I highly recommend to folks to buy and PAY for apps rather than use free versions if you can so you can help support the developers and/or companies that will continue to make good apps for our Android OS. I felt $40 was fair and $900 was just plain crazy.

[Q] Looking for the best RDP app

Hi,
I'm looking for an app that will allow regular work like:
- Right click
- F5 (or refresh)
- WinKey + R (run)
and etc...
I've tryed 2X and Remote RDP, but none of the support right clicking.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thx!
SplashTop HD is by far the best RDP app I've used. Haven't used it with a mouse but it works very well with touchscreen (hold for right click).
A slightly older version is included in MyCloud which is already on the tablet, does everything the market app does but hasn't been updated to link you computer via e-mail address for auto lookup off the network.
I used to use Wyse PocketCloud but quickly replaced it when I tried Splashtop.
Yep, SplashTop HD is the best IMO
Splashtop is not really an RDP software.
You need to install a software on the computer that grabs what is on screen and sends that to the tablet.
I use remote rdp, which is real rdp client. Right click is done by clicking and holding. You can even set the screen size of the connection (i use 1280x750) which is perfect for the tablet.
* sigh * Splashtop is the best at what it does.

Ok you have a point there but unless your in a situation where you can't install the streamer on the computer (eg. Server at work ) Splahtop is the best option.
For accessing servers at work I have streamer on my work PC and RPD from there - maybe not as fast as connecting direct but keeps security guys happier
Try PocketCloud Pro
I'm using PocketCloud Pro:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wyse.pocketcloudfull&hl=en
It's a true RDP client, and should do everything you're looking for.
PocketCloud Pro, true RDP client, with all the features you asked. Also supports other remote access protocols.
Do any support remote desktop to a Linux box?
My favorite is X2.
But I just got my TF101.
I asked the support to implement right-click an F1F12-keys.
They answered they would discuss this in the next meetings.
This would be really great.
btw: There is an app with supports right-click.
I don't remember the name, but the non-trail-version costs about 17€ and has some disadvantages compared to X2.
I love X2 stays connected in the background.
It seems like most of the major the RDP have some form of "right click" functionality. The issue is you have to usually do some special screen press combo or use a context menu somewhere. This is fine for simple operations but is extremely annoying for trying to do serious work or gaming via RDP.
I'm hoping that either splashtop or PocketCloud will support right click via the touchpad's right click or even better via an external mouse that is plugged in or connected via bluetooth. I hear there is no API to support that at the moment and that is the reason no one implements such a thing.
I'd also really like to have secondary buttons on my mouse work (like depressing the scroll wheel etc...). My dream is to be able to use CAD software remotely or maybe even play a game of L4D. Right now it runs and works, just the mouse implementation prevents you from being efficient and is really frustrating to use.
Maybe when ice cream sanwich comes out, the mouse APIs will be included.

I've literally never had a dropped connection. I use PocketCloud all day for work on both windows and linux remote systems. Not saying I don't believe you, just saying I've had a different experience than you.
Pocketcloud is a bit pricey compare to other apps, but it's totally worth it if you use it for business. The on-screen mouse pointer control dial thingy is the best input method I've ever used on a tablet, You can click accurately on the smallest item and see the pointer the whole time, plus it gives you quick access to right-click, the windows key, etc.
Hm, it's really unlikely any app out there is going to support the right click on the transformer dock the way it's configured, but I really want this. Maybe there's a free RDP client out there ripe for modding this functionality in? I don't know how hard it would be.
Actually I use Xtralogic's Remote Desktop and it works PERFECTLY with the dock, including right-click support, and 'hot tracking' the mouse. The ONLY weird thing about it is that you have to double-click-drag, but it's a minor thing...
With Xtralogic's (kinda pricey) app, my TF101 is basically a netbook now, and I couldn't be happier.

Agree on the mouse pointer control dial. that thing is perfect.
Remote RDP should have right click, you may need to check settings? I emailed the guy when the TF first came out, he was able to do it really fast.
right click
First of all thx for sll your replyes, but like someone here said - using combinations is nice but its annoying.
I think that there should some kind of a tweak that you can install on the device that allows the use of right click button everywhere.
Wouldn'tit be nice to use right click features everywhere? Like special functions in the browsre and etc...
I'll be sure to try SplashTop...for now, TeamViewer is my nr. 1.

[GUIDE] RemoteApps Desktop Apps

Ok! I keep hoping I'll see some neat way to get my desktop apps on my Surface on here! However, I found a pretty cool solution myself!
First I set up remote desktop with my windows 7 PC and my surface. That was cool. It felt clunky and slow. However, I looked up how to do RemoteApps. I thought it looked complicated but worth it. While stumbling around I found a utility that basically sets it up for you!
1. First setup remote desktop access and free the port for remote desktop. I will not describe it here.
2. I used this utility! Kim Knight's remoteapp tool. Google it. XDA won't let me post a link cause I've never posted before. I just wanted to share my findings.
3. I now can use Utorrent, Photoshop and even my silly Pidgin! Eventually I'm going to use Maya! It works great with hardly any lag! The only lag I get is when I'm saving to my tablet vs the remote computer. I haven't been able to get a browser to work yet but I have invested that much time into it. I'm sure other people will figure it out. Whats cool is Utorrent will save to my tablet. Yah download speeds are slower but expected!
Nice find
This is indeed a great find! I've played with RemoteApps before on the server editions of Windows, but it's quite tricky to get it to work with one server and not a huge enterprise! Being able to use it in this way is just great. Plus we can probably work out an XML file that will populate the apps into the RemoteApp control panel / metro RDP client automatically.
However, I'm having a problem with this on Win 8 (as a host). It seems to all setup ok, but upon connecting (from Win8 or Surface RT) after credentials, cert etc are accepted the RDP client just vanishes. I see Kim Knight's page says it works with Win 8 CP - has anyone tested it with Win 8 RTM? If MS have broken this with Win8 I think I'll have to setup a Win7 box/VM just for this purpose!
I had issues getting it working on Windows 7 pro at work, so i swapped up to Enterprise and it worked great. I haven't tested it at home yet off my system. I haven't used this but for my home fileserver, but you can take it a step further and patch RDP to work for multiple concurrent connections.

I had issues getting it working on Windows 7 pro at work, so i swapped up to Enterprise and it worked great. I haven't tested it at home yet off my system. I haven't used this but for my home fileserver, but you can take it a step further and patch RDP to work for multiple concurrent connections.

With concurrent connections, can you remote app and use desktop still with same login?
Edit: Tried it myself and it works. So now I can remote app in while I'm still logged in my desktop and it won't boot me off, allowing me to use them simultaneously with the same login.
I can confirm this works with Windows 8 Enterprise, but not Pro. There is, of course, no Ultimate. This is all a bit of a shame as I can't use RemoteApp on my primary home PC, which also runs Media Centre (which can't be added into W8 Enterprise).

Mine keeps booting me off... Asks me to sign out the other user before logging in. Any tips on how you were able to achieve that?

Did you install the concurrent RDP patch?
I installed it on Windows 7 Ultimate and I can use remote apps on my Surface and use desktop at the same time.

Brilliant. Worked like a charm. No idea how, without a server running the remote app role, but it does.

RemoteApp is just a remote desktop connection to a specific application, it's been around since Windows XP SP3. It's also how XP mode in Windows 7 does its magic.
I know what remote desktop is! But remoteapp - seamless windowed app on client - is pretty impressive.

The remote app program does work under Windows 8, but you need to run it as administrator otherwise it's crashtastic.
After that it works perfectly.
One other thing is that you should apply the patch to allow multiple co-current remote desktop sessions to work on your machine, here's the patch... http://www.tenniswood.co.uk/technol...current-remote-desktop-sessions-in-windows-8/
That's not legal.

remote desktop help
Hey all, if anyone can help me get remote desktop working on my surface it would be greatly appreciated. If a developer out there could set up an app to get this done easier, could be a moneymaker, I know id pay for it.
After scouring youtube, and the web, I found a lot of different walkthroughs on how to set up a home pc as a remote server. Unfortunately, I really don't know what im doing and cant figure out why it isn't working. Im running WinXP Pro SP3 on a few year old laptop (I bought the thing during the Vista debacle, and down graded to xp for software reasons - I am an architect and needed my AutoCAD and various graphic intensive programs)
These are the steps that I have tried, all to no avail
- I go to control panel, System, Remote, turn on Remote Desktop.
- open Linksys router configuration, and try to set up Port Forwarding
- this is where it really gets confusing for me, and I don't think that I am doing it correct. I know I need to open the port, I go to Applications and Gaming, and enter RDP, Im not sure of the port number, and what else to do here
- cmd, ipconfig - I enter all information - ip address, DNS, Gateway, etc?
I then found out that in order to really get this working, I needed a static IP address - Im not sure how to do this, but I found a couple posts, and a youtube video suggesting using DynDNS to get this working as a host. I signed up, and am still not able to connect.
Any help would be appreciated - Im not great with this stuff.....I never really played with networking, before....Please help me get my Surface working. Its possible im not entering the address correctly in the Surface Remote Desktop App.
Thank You!!
If the surface is on your home wifi, it should be able to rdp (remote desktop) to the XP system no problem.
Only need the router ip mapping / translation if using the Surface outside the house on another Internet connection
