Hi
I have a Brodit car mount for my Galaxy Nexus... and I will be getting a Nexus 4.
According to http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-Nexus-4-vs-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-vs-Samsung-Galaxy-S-III-specs-comparison_id36069 the Nexus 4 is only 0.76mm wider and 0.16mm deeper than the Galaxy Nexus ... so do people think you could make the Brodit car mount fit?
The mount is fairly hard ABS plastic - a bit of wet n dry paper culd shave enough to get the Nexus 4 to fit?
Based on the photos I've seen the USB charging port looks to be in the same position (dead centre, bottom)...
Has anyone else already thought of this?

I'm in a similar boat, I'm thinking of trying the Optimus 4G or the Infuse 4G cradle for my Nexus 4. Both are almost the same dimensions...
Got a reply from Brodit about the availability of Nexus 4 car holder.

I can gladly inform you that we are going to make holders for this Nexus.
We waiting for the unit to arrive, then we probably need a couple of weeks before launching.

I am using a free holder I got from the Confused.com driving mate app a while ago but only until Brodit release theirs. The windscreen sucker is ridiculously good but the holder is just ok. It does let me use the phone as a dash cam which is handy but it doesn't give me masses of confidence that it will hold the phone for more than a few months until the grippy pads and mechanism degrade. Also I want an active holder so I just slide it in instead of having to connect the charger separately.
Brodits are awesome and I've used one for every phone since my G1. Definitely beyond compare.

I have a Galaxy Nexus mount and the N4 does not fit. It slides down about 3/4 of the way and then gets stuck. I have heard that the Nexus 4 fits the Samsung Infuse 4g car mount according to a user on r/Nexus4.

Thanks for the heads-up! I checked the relative position of the USB socket on Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 and even if you made the Brodit holder fit, the usb wouldn't line up.

Does anyone know if the Samsung Infuse 4G cradle will work with the Nexus 4, just checked Brodits site and still not listing for the N4.

I have had a Brodit holder for my last three devices, whilst I love the way they fit I must admit I am getting a little fed up of having to buy one every time I get a new phone. I am thinking something like this http://www.brodit.com/product.html?id=511165 (scroll to the bottom of this page for more info http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/tag/brodit-adjustable-holder/) adjustable holder will work. Then I can just set the right width when I get a new handset.
Any thoughts?

I am using an older universal mount from ProClip (US version of Brodit) and it works fine with the Nexus 4. I have used it with and without the bumper and with a little adjustment it fits just like their custom versions. If you can live without built-in charging then this is a great solution.
Between the universal mount, Bluetooth audio kit and the long battery life of the phone, I'm pretty much all set.

I've currently got the adjustable width passive one you pointed out and it works fine with the N4 in a TPU S-line case. Also used it with no problems with a naked N4 and the Galaxy Nexus I had previously.
There seems to be decent range of adjustment available so I can see it being well suited to support future handsets too.

Anyone know any good sports armband to hold my galaxy while i'm jogging ?
I've looked at google/ebay and found only universal cheap stuff that doesn't look all that great.
I simply want something to hold the galaxy (which I play music from and use apps for sports), protect it from damage and sweat and allow me to use its functions.

Really ?! Any iphone armband ? Headphone's hole in the same place for iphone 4 and Galaxy ?
In that case i'll go for pro armbands, marware and such i guess...
Will be glad to hear input from people who tried it.
Search for the existing thread on this topic in this forum, there are several good suggestions there (I posted one that is specifically made for the SGS and very good).

I've looked through the forums. If I remember right, you recommended the iGatdgitz one. I've been going through the net for hours looking for this and the Vangoddy one but found it nowhere in stock.
I am still wondering whether every iphone4 armband will fit. Usually quality companies create stuff for them and if that's true then it's probably the best solution.

Iphone4 armbands won't fit, the dimensions are slightly off. Iphone 3GS ones on the other hand will, I use a generic iphone 3GS armband and it works like a charm.
i ve got one for iphone. sgs is slightly longer, but in practice i am really satisfied...
google for "SportWrap Armband"

There you go:

If the iPhone 3G armbands fit there are probably some very good ones out there as others have suggested, certainly would be worth looking into also.
I will order this one:
h**p://w*w.amazon.co.uk/Navitech-Neoprene-Resistant-Jogging-Reflection/dp/B00486SH3Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1300140440&sr=8-3
It's simple, and I think it will fits perfect!
http://www.igadgitz.com/products/fi...-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-android-smartpho.html
Fits the phone like a glove but strap can be too short if you have big arms.
IF you get an iphone one, just make sure the material can stretch a bit. (They usually do)
Is the igadgitz too bulky, looks like I would get very sweaty in it?
I have looked everywhere for the miCoach one but that appears impossible to get in Australia without paying more then the armbands total value..
Greetings XDA folks! My Nexus One is being passed to my girlfriend, as she broke her Huawei Ideos, so now I'm looking at the Nexus S. I'm based in Taiwan, so I only will get the Super Clear LCD version. Really would like to hear XDA thoughts on this phone and how it has treated them over the course of their ownership...
- Hardware/software issues?
- How it holds up without a case - scratches/wear/tear?
My main concern is reliability in general. I prefer sticking to the stock Android experience and I'm okay with rooting/3rd party ROMs if they're reliable; so if you guys have other phone suggestions please feel free to plug them in! Much appreciated!

No complaints, have had the phone since the US release. But if you are in Taiwan, would you like to wait for a galaxy S II or maybe the original galaxy s? The original galaxy s is very rich in roms and performs quite well.
The screen for the nexus is NOT gorilla glass, so I have a screen protector on at all times, the back is very easily scratchable. If you are concern about keeping your phone in mint condition, I would suggest that you get a case or a replacement back cover. Only thing about the back covers though is that they have the NFC in it and so it can be limted or hard to find. Or otherwise get the one without NFC and "cripple" your phone.
Have had both the galaxy S and they nexus s, and I switch between both as my daily phone. If you got any questions, just ask me I will try to answer as best as I can. I wish I could get a new phone too but they wife will kill me
Hey suomaf, I would love to have the SGII, but as of now they have not given a release date here in Taiwan and I really don't want to fork more than 600 USD/415 EUR for import. I looked at the Galaxy S too, but hesitant about its GPS - whereas the Nexus S seemed to address that issue from other reviews I've read; or did they address this issue on a particular version that I'm not aware of? Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated!
Software wise I think its great. Also great if you love flashing ROMs.
I agree that the backcover scratches easily. A lot of cases will even scratch it, I found out the hard way.
Putting on a case protects it but adds bulk. Especially if you are used to using the Nexus One naked. I may give the Incipio Feather case a try next.
Also, you'll probably miss the notification LED. You can get BLN, but it isn't quite the same.
Another thing I miss is the desktop and car dock.
All and all, I think it's a pretty solid device. Just the ideal device for me is a hybid of the Nexus One/S

Hey DumbUglyDragon... interesting name... so it sounds like the Nexus S body needs a good amount of protection from visual scuffs. If I remembered correctly, the Nexus S doesn't come with a pouch like the Nexus One, right? I prefer naked phone with pouch, so any pouch options any of you Nexus S owners can suggest (if any)? Thanks!

I used the pouch that came with my old myTouch 3G (HTC Magic) for a while. It was basically a sunglass pouch. Kept it protected from scratches, but a bit cumbersome to have to open the pouch to pull out the phone every time I wanted to use it. But it is nothing like the ballistic nylon pouch the Nexus One came with
I love my Nexus S so much. Got it in late December; it's had to go in for repair once since then- it would go unresponsive if left asleep for more than a couple hours for some reason. Got fixed and returned by Geek Squad in about ten days. Other than that, it's been all good times. I can't tell you much on your second question; I've had an Invisible Shield and Amzer silicone case on it almost from day one. My mom's seems to be holding up pretty well without a case (she's only had hers for a month). As long as you don't drop the thing, it should be alright without one. I wouldn't trust not having a screen protector on it for any real length of time, though; especially if you aren't the super careful type.
I came from a 'dumb' sony erricson phone, to the Nexus S.
At first i was actually scared to take it out with me (being quite expensive and all), but i buoght a flip case for it so that part was sorted lol.
Definately buy some sort of protection for it though, otherwise it will scratch up.
In all honesty when i first got this phone i was not impressed (first smart phone), but now that ive had it for a few months, i find it simply amazing.
I am running the NS Collab ROM which is based off CM7 with the usual tweaks etc
Basically , you won't be dissapointed!
Only problems I've had with Nexus S have been the poor Google Skymap performance ... it jumps around everyone and is essentially unusable with the compass.
Using pure GPS is fine (so navigation and geocaching not affected) but the compass is poor.
Plus side, the phone is fast and smooth. It gets updates straight from Google, so no waiting for the maker to decide to release an update. It can be easily rooted and ROM'd if you want.
I do not use a screen protector or a case, because they make the phone look ugly. I use a Golla bag (http://www.golla.com/#/en/products/search/category/mobile/) that clips onto my belt and the phone has remained in tip-top condition.
Overall, very please with the phone and have no desire to change it for anything else.
I actually love the nexus s and I also have the original galaxy s. I beloved both perform equally well. You were concerned about GPS with the galaxy s, which CAN be remedied by using a custom rom but then you sacrifice the already low battery life even further. The nexus s has been an awesome phone to me. I would still suggest to wait or save for a 4g compatible phone. I'm not sure of coverage in your area but I was disappointed when I realized my nexus s was not 4g capable and its very similiar device the the original galaxy s.
My .02 cents.

Custom ROMs / Kernels actually make your phone last longer in terms of battery life.
4G? Can care less.. but HEY! Look at the Droid Charge and Thunderbolt. It's definitely draining your phone's battery at a 4G speed
3.5G (HSDPA) is enough for me.. I'm not using my phone as primary internet.

Personally. I love the Nexus S, great screen, developer support is starting to increase. The only phone I'd consider as a competitor would be the LG G2x. But even then, I committed myself to only getting Nexus phones.

You can buy them if you search a bit, there are a few here and there in some smaller retail shops. Online stores, it's more difficult to find. There are a lot of mix bagged feelings for ASUS Transformer for Taiwan folks.

Thanks! 4G isn't really pushed too much here in Taiwan, since we have a bunch of public Wi-Fi networks here - "WiFly" service; very convenient for anybody who comes to Taiwan! For the Galaxy S, I tried diving into see the ROMs available, but I'm going to stick with the stock Nexus experience; all the ROMs I see seems to look only beta and ongoing.
The Nexus orb may or may not ever come out, if it does it wont be for many months and the other options are either horribly ugly, gigantic, or dont work right, so screw it. Google's wireless charging idea looks to have been a waste of time, money, and made the phone thicker and heavier than it could have been.
There are a ton of Galaxy S 3 docks that look decent and dont take up a lot of space. Anyone know if the Nexus will fit without much stress on the USB connection (since the S3 is slightly thinner the plug would be closer to the edge)?

Just b/c the official Google charging orb isn't out doesn't mean it's a waste. Many of us are doing just fine using 3rd party wireless charging options.

Come on people... The phone was $350 for the 16gb so I think I can afford to spend $40 on an LG wireless charger so my phone looks pimp while it's sittin there charging on my desk. If the phone has the features you bet I am going to try to utilize them! Break out your wallets and go get one so you too, can join the "pimp" club! Just say NO to micro usb chargers!! LOL

Never quite understood the advantage of wireless charging , besides the cool-factor. Presumably you can't really use the phone whilst it's charging? Plus it takes longer to charge and it's less efficient...

My Energizer Qi mat charges VERY fast - faster than a wired connection, actually (personal experience). Clearly you don't have a Qi charger.
It's much faster and MUCH easier than orientating a micro USB and fiddling with plugging it in - especially in the dark.
Just lay it down in the dark and your head hits the pillow. It's not a "cool" gimmick. It's magical.

About to order a Nexus 5! I'm completely stoked... But I had a few questions if anyone wouldn't mind answering:
1. I see that yet again Otterbox has decided they don't want the business of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) so no defender case- but I was curious what would be the most similar to maybe the commuter series.
2. Will my Nexus 4 angled wireless charger work with the N5?
3. N5 specific issues- I've read a lot about a wifi dropping issue and the battery being as bad as the N4...
None of these things here necessarily would force me to decide to go to ATT and get a galaxy s4 / note 3 but it would make me a lot more comfortable with my decision to go with the Nexus 5 if these things aren't problems at all.
Thanks!

I haven't had any problems with WiFi on my N5, had it since 12/09/2013 and use WiFi at the office and home every day. I came from an original Evo 4G, so the battery life is great as far as I'm concerned; compared to the N4, I couldn't comment but I've got chargers wherever I need them. I can usually make it through a regular workday and get it home and have about 25-30% left after taking it off the charger at 7AM leaving home to go to work. It's also dependent on how much I use it through the day, of course.
As far as the other stuff, can't help you there out of personal experience but I've read on various forums where people have the N4 wireless charger working just fine with the N5.

1. I see that yet again Otterbox has decided they don't want the business of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) so no defender case- but I was curious what would be the most similar to maybe the commuter series.

Sorry, I cannot help you here. I usually keep my phones naked so I cannot comment on good cases, sorry .

It works perfectly. I use it at the office with my Nexus 5 all the time. Plus, if you were like me and had issues with the Nexus 4 slipping off of it, you'll be happy to know that it is no longer an issue with the N5. The back of the N5 is less slippery and it goes nowhere.

3. N5 specific issues- I've read a lot about a wifi dropping issue and the battery being as bad as the N4...

Wifi works perfectly fine for me. Never any issues to complain about. Again, in my experience: the battery life is better than the Nexus 4. I'd say a good 20% more time off charger. Just an estimate by me, so take it with a grain of salt.
unfortunately, not many case options for this device yet. check out amazon for best options and prices.
no wifi issues here on any of the builds.
battery life is just as good as my S4 was. the stock rom or any custom rom paired with a solid (and tweaked kernel) will really stretch the hours out for you. i prefer faux kernel but there are several that are dynamite.

Thank you guys for the replies! I went ahead and placed an order just now. Hopefully it doesn't take a week to leave the warehouse like it says it might
I bought a new nexus wireless charger about a month ago but was gifted a nexus 4 one that a friend had lying around (he went to the iphone... who does that????? After having a nexus 4 or any decent android device for that matter??? I mean how...). Would be nice to use the nexus 4 one for the phone and the new one for something like a new nexus tablet (thinking about getting the new nexus 7 but am truly hoping google releases a new N10!)
PS I also do love to carry my phone around naked but the environments I'm in on a daily basis are simply too dangerous for it. I think the biggest thing I liked about the otterbox was how fast they were in regards to their warranty. The case itself certainly had its drawbacks but boy were those replacements quick.
•Wi-Fi is fine.
•Case I don't know I hate them.
•The NX4 Wireless Charger works of course.

None of these things here necessarily would force me to decide to go to ATT and get a galaxy s4 / note 3 but it would make me a lot more comfortable with my decision to go with the Nexus 5 if these things aren't problems at all.
Thanks!

1.- The Ballistic SG Maxx is pretty rugged and has a removable screen protector and comes with a rock solid holster. I have one and use it at work (construction). My phone is still in mint condition. I got it for $25 on Amazon.
2. Yes.
3. I have no issues with WiFi at all and battery has been way better than people make it out to be. It lasts all day and then some and I average 4-5 hours screen time depending on usage. That's not too shabby.

Another note to consider: the Nexus 4 slanted charger also works with the Nexus 7 (2013) in landscape mode. Kinda cool to use as a bed-side alarm clock or whatever else you can think of.
hi,
does http://www.amazon.com/ADATA-USA-Elite-Wireless-Charging/dp/B00I0HFMIU work with my nexus 4? and also if i get a nexus 8, will it able to stand there !!!! and if anyone got one, is it really worth it?
You should really just read the reviews. It works with the N5 so that means it's a Qi charger. Qi chargers work with Nexus devices and that won't likely change in a possible N8. As for standing in it, there is no way of knowing.

OK I order of t after my exams ! Wish its good and my phone won't drop on it !! But anyway seems so cool , maybe my next phone won't have qi
BTW if you have any wireless charger, is it worth it / cool ?
lol, anyway its cool to just drop your phone on a charger ( i really love my device i would never do that ) but i tough of this for a little bit, there's ,many things i can do with that money !! im keeping my money + my next phone might not have QI charging ! (nexus 8 - nexus 6 - z ultra ! )
it says Qi in title but the reason i worreid was on one of the questions / reviews some guy said it doesn't work with my nexus 4 i worried it might not work and other guy said nexus 4 uses touchstone ! i found out not :!
After I got into electronics I can't buy anything , I just think of what great things I can make with that money !!! A pot that automatically waters plants ! And more....;D
many other things but one cool thing is that with a little bit (10&~) money on top of it you can make your doors unlock with fingerprint
