camera closes

My camera does not start up. goes to a black screen and then back to my home screen.
Any ideas on the cause of this? I am running the leaked gingerbread OTA
It just started doing this been running the leaked OTA for a week with no problems

FIX:
1. Go to Settings and select Date & Time.
2. Un check Automatic
3. Change the time to 08-01-11
4. Go and open your camera (it should work now)
5. Now you can go back and check Automatic in the Time & Date Setting

try it again.. it worked for me and a buddy.. you need to to change the date on your phone to august 1st. then try using the camera a couple of times..
once it works, just click it back to automatic for your date and time

Try the date change again. Leave it for five. Open the camera and it should work. I tried my camera and it did not work then tried the camcorder and that worked then back to the camera and that worked. Then set date back to auto.

What causes this? Is it preventable?
I loaded the leaked GB on both mine and a friends phone same time and I am the only on that has gotten the issue, or is it with the phone?

This is an issue that came up last night across many custom ROMs and stock GB RUUs. This LINK is a download for a flashable .zip that will fix the problem permanently.
The link provided may be credited to this post, as well as mpwt51 on the Android Central Forums and Snow02 on the BAMF Forums. I will also post a link in my q AND a stickied at the top of the QandA forum.

No. It was affecting any ROM using the gapps with Gtalk video. Some weirdness to do with a file that uses camera mainly, but also tied into Gtalk's video feature. The fix is actually for the camera, but it gets gtalk going again.

HTC timebombed a lib used by the camera and it expired 8/31. It was probably an accident and not malicious in nature. The lib (and several camera libs) were dated back from May. Even the 2.01 alpha had newer camera libs.

As you folks have already noticed, 2.11.605.0 will NOT be the final release version, LOL.

Can any one come up with a permanent fix for the camera, because it seems to reset when the phone is powered on?

This would have explained why Uberbamf wouldn't let me use the camera then. Thx for posting the fix.

Yesterday, my gtalk app stopped working, my camera stopped working, now my phone is going crazy. Im on uber bamf and its just crazy. re-flashing isnt working or anything.

I had this problem after flashing a custom lockring. So I formatted and restored nandriod and still had the same problem. My issue was gtalk instantly fc at startup, didn't even notice the camera didn't work until I read up on this problem. I blamed it on the new cwm update that just hit yesterday because some people were having issues with it too. But apparently that wasn't the case.

Hi, I am new on forum and on Nexus S, but not with ROMS
I love this phone, but since I bought it, I have a strange bug. Maybe it appears because I did with "rom toolbox pro" a full backup of apps on another smartphone (acer liquid metal) and now I restored all apps on Nexus S.
this is the bug: sometimes (normally when I'm writing a message, or simply using virtual keyboard) it appear the "open as..." window, where I can choose to open it with gosms pro or gmail.
I tried to open it with both programs, and after this window, on gosmspro the text message is about the bug report, with 2 attached files: 1 .txt files with description of bug (but it's too long, approx 4 mb of .txt!!!) and 2 a .jpg screenshot of bug (but in the image there is simply the lock screen).
In gmail it appears the same thing. But I can't understand where is the problem or where the bug starts, so I ask you how can I find it.
I tried also to uninstall some apps (like gosms, also deleting app data) but without progresses.
If you like it, i can post the screenshot of the bug, or also the .txt or .jpg files in the bug report.
Now I'm using the CM10 , and I had the same problem with Skank ROM.
Please help me, I never found an answer on the web to this tiresome bug. : /

Yes good idea but I would found another road first to do that: I' ll lose at least 2 hours re-installing everything.....
oh, another problem doing manual installations: all saves will be lost! so I prefer to show you .txt files for now....I think you ' ll understand

Absolutely. But from experience, it's a good idea to wipe clean once in a while. I usually do it every few months to keep the problems at bay. Sometimes you'll spend more time trying to fix an issue than it would take you to restart from anew, and even if you end up fixing it that's only an issue you see. You aren't fixing udnerlying problems...

So does anything actually crash or is it just this that pops up?

uhm, at the beginning i had 5-6 crashes, but I'm sure that it was linked to the overclock. In fact, when I put 1200 mhz, I was a noobie in that (because I came from smartphones that NEED overclock to have a fluid and rapid system), and when I reset it to 1000 mhz, it never did me another crash no more.
So yes, the bug is only this popup. I know isn't a little bug, but with the passing of times, it appears more and more times, so it's tiresome.
ah, few seconds before bug, the phone vibrate 3 times (everytime).
I'm using a plastic gel cover.
ah, another little thing that I hear yesterday for the first time: the front speaker at the top, sometimes (also 2-3 times in a minute, don' t know if it do that always, as in lock screen) do a very low sound repeated for few seconds (it's hard to explain this, it seems a radio frequency as "toctoctoctoctoc")...sorry for this onomatopea but maybe its' helpful for understanding what I mean

Take off your case for a whole day, don't put it on your phone. Tell me if it still happens during that day.

my last smartphone had similar problem (microphone of acer liquid metal won' t work well with case)!!
but now the case seems to create a worst problem!! I can' t believe that this simple accessories can made theese problems ( considering that technology should give us better phones in every kind of way)....
NEWS : today, for the first time, telephone crashes 2 times: it never happens since my last OC (2 weeks ago) !!
I hope that case was problem for bug and also crashes!!

Tell me if the bugmailer problem seems fixed after using it for a while.
Edit: I don't believe the crashes are related however. I'll tell you the magic behind the bug mailer after you tell me if it's fixed!

Other things: for now, no other crashes, but the strange silent rumor on the top of the headspeaker sometimes appears. Can the phone record this low sound on the top? So you ' ll understand what I mean...

Your phone case presses on VOL +, VOL - and POWER all at the same time. That's a developper feature.
You can "disable" it by turning off USB debug but I highly suggest either fixing your case if possible or getting another one that doesn't press those buttons for no reason.
Edit: I have no idea what you are talking about for the other issue though.

[Q] HELP!!

Nexus 5 front video camera is dark!
I never posted a thread so hello, but I have a major issue with my Nexus 5. I checked on Google and I couldn't find anyone else with this problem. My front video camera is dark, it's as if the exposure settings are at like -5. That's how dark it is. I also have the camera mod downloaded (my phone's rooted). If you have any answer can you please provide it? THANKS!
Edit: I tried other apps and it's fine, I don't want to use them because most 3rd party camera apps suck. Front facing picture camera is ok too. Therefore it isn't a hardware issue.

Seems like it's the camera mod hack, from the sound of it.
Are you on a custom ROM? It may be interfering with the hack (I'm not familar with the mod.)

I actually took it off to test the actual camera. I was feeling like returning the phone, but ironically the phone fixed itself a couple minutes ago. I have no idea how, don't ask me, but it did. I'll close the thread. Thanks anyways!

Hello there, regarding to your question, there really isnt a "good" capture or recording app for android yet. Most on the google play store are poor and scams. I suggest you do more research. There maybe one.

So you don't know if anyone's developing a decent recording software? I just tried a bit of SCR screen recorder but after one recording, my phone just crashes and it seems that I'm not alone in this looking at the reviews of screen recording apps. I didn't have such a problem when I was using 4.0... What changed?

Probably your phone crashed because of overload or poor ram management (screen recorders use a lot of ram) BTW what do you exactly mean by your phone crashed, did the application crash or the entire phone?

The entire phone, but my phone has problems. I've had a history of bad flashes (GS3 currently running Slim Bean with Cyanogen kernel). However, I've tried with Nexus 7 2013 as well and it's not working too pretty on that either (stock). As mentioned previously, if you look at the reviews in the screen recording apps, they will complain about the apps not working too well on 4.3 and 4.4. Slim Bean is 4.3 at the moment and I just can't wait to use 4.4's ADB screen capture. That would really solve a lot of things and really, no need for apps.

Maybe if your phone still has problems, you may want to flash the stock rom and start from there. (Often, the stock rom is the stablest) One more thing, is recording on your phone very important to you?

I'm not sure if it works on 4.3, so my suggestion might be entirely useless, but a friend of mine uses SCR Screen Recorder for his tutorials. The device we use runs 4.1.2, so like you said, it might not work. Figured I'd throw my .02 in.

I just gave up on custom ROMs and decided to just stick with the stock ROM instead. I'm just going to get rid of the TouchWiz UI. Neither Hyperdrive nor GPE 5.0 worked unfortunately. The GPE ended up with boot loops. Hyperdrive booted, but wifi + phone radio didn't work.
Recording on my phone is okay now, but I'm still looking for a good method for future reference. Well, recording was for my Galaxy S3 and I was trying to make S3 tutorials so it's far too late now. My problem with the ROM is S4, which is also somewhat dated, so recording isn't really necessary for it either. Thanks for asking.

N5 camera super blurry/fuzzy and focus problems.

Help. I used to show off my camera pictures with my N5, but around tht time I installed CM11, my camera pictures and videos will often times come out really blurry/fuzzy. It also takes a LONG time to focus. Im losing so many precious momments because of this. This is happening with any camera app.

change roms then

Buy an actual camera if you rely on a phone to capture 'precious' moments. Also if you know that you rely on your phone for these moments why install another OS, rather than stock?

There may be a bug on the ROM... Try changing to see if this helps?
