[Q] samsung repp sch-r680 bootloop/softbrick?/? - General Questions and Answers

Ok im an admitted "noob" to the whole android/linux op but not technically challenged at all.. and i researched ALL the info availible before rooting my alltel samsung repp (sch-r680) supposedly its an american clone of an another "galaxy gio", think its an asian model or something... anyway, i made a very careless mistake and erased my backup and system files and now am stuck in a bootloop... i can still access download mode and clockwork recovery but ive tries to flash stock roms with odin, install zips and restore backups(that i copied to my device via usb)... but nothing works, all the nandroid.md5 files respond with mismatch errors, and when i try to flash with odin, either the file passes and is useless to fix the problem or it gives an error something like "odin multidownloader has developed an error and closing"... ive been looking into flashing with fastboot or adb, i have all the neccessary files just havent figured out how to successfully execute... oh, and im having problems running some executable files (.exe), even at the comand prompt,(which im not alll that fluent in command prompt syntax). i know this is not a very popular model, and my carrier store (alltel) is like the last one standing i think but the same model is marketed by us cellular... anyway, sorry for the extremely long message, but i wanted to provide as much info as possible, so if anyone can help id greatly appreciate it... ive been without my andoid for like a week now and seperation anxiety is starting to set in.. pls help!!!
Also, i cant mount my system in cwm or through adb... Dont know if thatll help find a solution but i know its a problem within itself...

[Q] samsung galaxy player 50

My sister have a Galaxy Player 50 with eclair...this PMP seems to be the same as the galaxy 3 (same resolution...and some other things) so can I flash lestatious or other rom on it ?
This hardware is not a phone...but maybe ?
Maybe I can try to flash...but if the pmp become soft bricked...it's over since i can't found an galaxy's 50 firmware...
Darius, I'm stuck with a brick galaxy player. I can try to flash with a galaxy 3 firmware if you want
Do you know how to make a dump of your device so you can share with me the original firmware?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14493414
I don't know...but I'll try to find
Thanks!
I tried the firmware of galaxy 3, but didn't work
I dont think that its possible, first of all, despite being an android device, it doesnt have radio features, gsm 3g etc, only wifi, there are features that our phone does not support
Anyone found a solution for this yet? Not being able to test this device to it's full potential is really frustrating. Games are laggy and apps just do not run smooth on this one.
Has anyone tried z4root on this? I did and it freezes at "acquiring root shell".
@fedeff: how did you brick it?

I'd gladly try it as long as Samsung gives me firmware, don't want to end up with a nice looking little brick here.
Is there any way that that an installer/firmware file could be saved in the device for backup purposes or something?

factoryfs.rfs is ur firmware backup....
@arunmcops: Thanks for the instructions. If someone try this and upload it'd be great for me.
@anon3524: I accidentally reseted the device to factory, trying to fix a problem with wifi (it suddenly stopped working one day).

Ok, I am down to do this process you just explained as long as you or anyone explains to me how to recover the device with this "factoryfs.rfs" in case it gets bricked. You'd have to explain with detail how to grab this file and what to do with it etc. Also, if you could give further details on the initial process, that'd be great since a few things are unclear (to a brave noob like me).
Other than that, I am willing to try it to see the results.
BRING IT OON! *warface*
@arunmcops - I've got one of these, so have uploaded the file you wanted here - sorry, not allowed to post links yet:
dl.dropbox.com/u/6491656/Samsung/factoryfs.tar.gz (please don't flash this, its not a full rom)
I haven't made any changes to the base firmware other than renaming a couple of the phone.apk's to .old (cell standby was eating battery, and this device doesn't have a sim).
For fun, i've also uploaded a dmesg log
dl.dropbox.com/u/6491656/Samsung/dmesg.log
One other thing, i think the partition layout might be slightly different on this (might be wrong, don't have the phone) in that the internal sd card is mounted as /sdcard and the external one is /sdcard/sd.
Hope this helps!
Chris
@ctaylr Thanks for uploading the file.
I tried to load it using Odin, but it get stuck while uploading the file. The device is detected, but I think it's not transfering anything.
Is it possible to restore it form sd card?

Hi...thats probably because it isn't intended as a flashable rom. Its just a dump of the stock firmware so that arunmcops asked to see to see if it had any resemblance of the galaxy 3 f/w, to see what we'd have to do to get a working custom ROM on this device..
Please don't attack it with any kind of Norse God ...especially until there is a confirmed route back to stock. All thats contained in the files is what you have on your device already - so there is also absolutely no point (for now).
If your having trouble with your device now, you could try doing a factory reset or playing about in Kies - i've fixed my device once after I got curious and flashed a custom ROM on here (which fyi completely messed it up - something like E:multi_csc: error: open /efs/imei/mps_code.dat because we dont have an IMEI code on this device) and then got it back working again - unfortunately i can't remember exactly what I did. Otherwise if this doesn't work I'll see if i can make a working stock package for Odin.
@ctaylr, yes I'm having problems with my device. It got soft bricked. I couldn't make it work using Kies. The only thing I can do is to start it in Download mode. If you can make a working package for oding that'd be great
This might help

Thanks!
@fedeff Ok. i'll have a look over the weekend and see if i can make something that flashes.
Quick questions
1) do you have the 8gb or 16gb version?
2) have you tried going into recovery utils and doing a "wipe data/factory reset?" - you can do this by holding down home, volume down and volume up while turning the unit on - i seem to remember this fixed it for me, but it probably depends on how far Odin got while flashing. If your unit is already bricked, i can't see it doing much further harm

1) I have the 8gb version
2) By doing "wipe data/factory reset" is how I got it soft bricked. (the device wifi suddenly stopped working, and I thought that would help) After that it kept entering in the recovery mode. Then I tried to flash it with odin, now the only thing I can do is enter the download mode
Thanks again for helping me!
News?
Hi! I also like the others I am interested because my Galaxy player has 50 brick and I need someone to do dump the firmware so I can flash through odin! Please would you be my salvation and many other who have this player and would like to fix without waiting for the assistance of a month
Waiting for an answer I greet and thank all users who want to help me
sorry if English is not correct, but I'm using google translator (I'm Italian)
EDIT:
listen to me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726673 This is the guide on how to get the dump of your fimrware if someone kindly did this process with its galaxy player 50 and then upload the file . tar obtained would help all
I don't think it is as simple as that.
If you fully read that topic above, it tells you. That will ONLY tarball the files in the /system folder. It doesn't dump the the bootloaders, efs or produce the initrd, which is also part of the firmware.
In fact that backup is exactly what i linked to earlier here, and doesn't flash properly through Odin. I don't know Odin very well (i use a ZTE Blade and clockworkmod normally ) but i'm going to take an educated guess it needs all of this information to successfully flash the player, and trying to flash without all of that probably won't work so well.
If i'm wrong, please let me know and i'll do what i can to help.

Stuck at Boot after Odin Flash

Hey guys,
I know this has been asked a lot but please help me guys.
I have a friend's Galaxy S6 here and there was the following problem with it:
A password was suddenly set and nobody knew why, she really said it came out of nowhere!
So she asked me to get her photos from the phone and reset it afterwards.
I did that on other phones before so I flashed TWRP and pulled the files with adb.
I tried to reboot after that and was stuck at the boot screen. Guys, I almost cried (I dont have much money to buy a new one).
Please, does any have an idea for me to fix this? It would be so greatly appreciated!
I tried flashing some stock firmware from stockrom.net but Odin always says FAIL!
Seriously: anybody who can solve this: I will be thankful towards you forever
Kind regards
Try flashing the stock ROM from www.sammobile.com/firmwares instead.
SOLVED! BRICKED S6 Try this!
Sorry for asking this old question so I hope I will be able to help someone looking for a solution with this answer at least.
Everybody having a problem with a bricked Samsung device - TRY THIS:
If you can still access the download mode on your device its pretty likely that this will fix the problem.
The new version of Samsung Kies (yes that cheap garbage software to put media on your device, because you are to dumb to use your fricking Windows explorer for that) is called SmartSwitch and is capable of restoring the stock firmware on your device! Not all devices are supported but it definitely worked for my S6! Download it for Windows and Mac OS:
samsung . com/us/smart-switch/ (international link)
samsung . com/de/support/smartswitch/ (This leads you to the German version, google the version for your country if necessary. you will find it)
Start the software and boot your phone to download mode, connect it to your PC and SmartSwitch should detect it. I dont exactly remember the way to restore but it was somewhat like this (the program is simple you will find it). SmartSwitch offers you to restore the phone somewhere and it gives you a screen where you can type in the model number of your device (Use the complete Model number). This screen is important since you specify which stock firmware to load on your device here! It will then give you a simple progress bar and download the firmware from Samsung and install it!
Sorry not to be able to tell you the exact way but SmartSwitch's design is simple - if you managed to brick your device with ODIN (like I did) you will find the restore option in SmartSwitch
Seriously try this before molesting your bricked device with ODIN even more. I couldnt believe that it did work since Kies was such garbage and the SmartSwitch UI looks too simple to be able to repair a damn bricked device. I couldnt believe it when my phone rebooted correctly with stock firmware on it after I had bricked it with ODIN when trying to root and backup stuff.
Hope this helps some lost souls out there. SmartSwitch made my week when I had bricked a friends device.
EDIT: I found a video in some language I dont understand; it shows the way through the GUI to the "type your model here" option

try using a pit file with odin. im thinking it wouldnt have an error if you had the pit file.
to answer your question "what have i done?" it would seem, you changed things you didnt understand and didnt realize the consequences, resulting in a big @SS mess
dont do that
Like I said odin won't work because of unexpected partition layout.
I'm fully aware of the consequences however I will be the recipient
Of a Samsung galaxy note 4 next week so I was just experimenting
And I will definitely not be rooting that

ill just assume you dont know what a pit file is, and ill move on. good luck!
No need to assume, I'll be honest I've no idea what a pit file is or how to use one
Etc etc, however I'd be interested to learn if you can give me the basics, everybody has to start somewhere and the only way to progress is if people share the knowledge,
So what do you know that can help me??

go to your devices forum where the return to stock post is, and see if there is a pit file for whatever version you have. if not, try a search for pit over your general and q&a forums. im sure you will find some, just need to match them to the stock files.
on odin, there is a pit box, check it and link your pit file.
I'd just like to let you know I have managed to sort my phone out
I got a clockwork mod ,and now I'm using something called CyanogenMod
I'm not quite sure how I have managed to achieve this but I have my WiFi connected
to my phone again, Odin is installed and working with no unexpected partition layout
Problems, however my SD card won't mount and I can't seem to get Google playstore
But for now its a small price to pay considering where I was this afternoon. I think I've done well

[Completed] Please help me. No OS. HTC One M7.

Hey there guys. I bought an HTC One M7 from amazon which came unlocked. Problem was, i couldnt get it to connect to my provider, Koodo. Long story short, i went to flash a Stock Telus Rom to it, no META file in the zip. Already wiped my phone. So now theres no OS. I have TWRP still (thank god for that) but it just sits at the HTC logo and wont boot, as i know thats what happens when you mess up. Fairly familiar with THIS issue, as ive done it to my Samsung Galaxy SIII MANY times before, but had odin to fix it. I have an RUU.exe. Got it from a forum here. Cant connect to my phone (error 171 i believe). Everything is connected properly, and my PC recognizes it, but only as an MTP device. I am gonna try an RUU.zip and flash it with fastboot. See if that method works. But any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated as i dont want to have spent $299 to waste it like betting on the Maple Leafs.
Side note: I cannot get ADB Sideloader to work properly. I have a Custom Rom that i attempted to flash that way, but i got the error that was like ADB version (31) is not up to date with server (36) or something along the lines of that and then it fails to load daemon everytime. Tried some fixes from these forums but none of them were successful. Not familliar with ADB and all that stuff, so if anyone has any fix for the ADB, please dumb it down to kindergardener levels.
Sorry this is so long. Tried to explain everything as detailed as possible for a more acturately helpful response.
UPDATE Got the RUU.zip file to work after a couple hours of messing around with it. Had to fast boot getvar to obtain my model id, and change that in the android-info.txt in the zip file. Is flashing now. HUGE thanks to all of the thousands of XDA forums. Helped me out with everything!

Stuck without a phone due to a "non-standard" Galaxy S Duos 2

Hi everyone,
I'm a little in trouble and I'd need some help 'cause I'm getting an headache.
I temporary have to use a Galaxy S Duos 2, and given its really old OS I tried to flash it with something more recent. Problem is, there is something weird in the device preventing me to flash it.
In short, I'm stuck on two problems:
1) All the resources I've tried are either for the GT-S7580, kylepro, single SIM or for the GT-S7582, kyleprods, dual sim. Guess what? Mine is a GT-S7582, kylepro, dual sim. What the hell?
2) All the roms I've tried fail during the installation 'cause of an error on the sha1 of the system folder. I've tried everything, wiped the folders in the suggested order, restored the file system...nada.
So, any idea what's going on, and how to get out of this situation? I'd absolutely need to make the device work, but I'm clueless. I've even thought to reinstall the stock rom, but I've got no idea which version is the correct one for my device version.
Uh, just to add as much info as I can: I'm using Odin3 v3.12.10 and TWRP 3.2.1-0-kylepro
Help, please?
Well, exactly like last time I posted and asked for some help, I got totally ignored. Luckily, after a while yesterday I've done some thinking and I've found the possibile cause of the problem, tried and...yes, it worked; posting here in case someone else would ever find itself stuck on something similar in the future.
In short, the root of the problem is that for whatever reason the phone was thinking to be a kylepro instead of a kyleprods. I tried to correct the build.prop file, but there is no chance to do it from inside TWRP so I ended up tweaking the updater-script file. The procedure is explained on line in different sites, I cannot give a link as the forum system does not allow me to do it.
you can post the link with a minor mentioned edit, would be helpful for others who might face the same in future
