My note is functioning normally! I dont have any problems with connecting to wifi at home, friends' places and even public wifi at like tim hortons etc.
BUT it doesn't connect well to the wifi at my university... and it definitely isn't the problem with the wifi signal or anything as my phone (galaxy note) connects fine as well as my laptop etc... I am not sure how to solve this problem... let alone figuring out what exactly is wrong...
In order to sign into the school's wifi, one will need to put it an id and password.. its a WPA wireless network.
To be more precise, my note sometimes will be connected to the school wifi fine without any disconnection but very frequently (at least 75% of the time I open up my tablet at school) it will not be able to connect or sometimes disconnect stochastically. I will have to try turning my wifi on and off a few times and if that doesn't solve the problem (which is the case for most of the time) I try restarting my tablet.... most of the time if my tablet decides it doesn't want to connect, nothing seems to work! I will just have to try and connect to the wifi some other time.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

More info: usually the error is authentication error or wrong password or just doesn't connect.... all the info inputted is correct

Your school Wi-Fi just sucks, it's unstable. Or you have on your note an app that uses an restricted protocol. As an example, a router can be set to drop any yahoo related connection. But most likely just an incompatibility between your note and the router.

Could it be a region area cause wifi networks of that size have a lot of different routers all over the place working together and each router can be programed individually to do certain things like drop as the previous post said yahoo related protocol for example so does it work in some areas and not others
I'm having this exact same problem at my school. The wifi will intermittent reconnect, and sometimes won't automatically connect when I enter the building, regardless of the signal strength. It will say "authentication error" sometimes when it doesn't auto connect. Often it will also reprompt for the WPA key even though the saved one is correct.
Wifi works flawlessly at home, work, and friend's houses, but has issues with the school's.

Had similar issues at my school, its not your tablet its the wifi generally the signal strength is bad and that's y i struggles to connects but works sometimes, i realised it was router and signal when even iphones had problems
I made a topic about this a while back. The success of connecting seems to depend on the proximity to the wireless base station and amount of other wifi devices. Even in the worst environments, if I go into settings and disable/enable wifi multiple times it will eventually connect. I get the authentication error fairly often and just ignore it, disabling/enabling until it connects successfully.

Ask the IT administrator if there are any limitations. Show him that you can't use the Wi-Fi with your device, maybe he will be able to help you.

It seems my phone keeps dropping wifi randomly, even as I'm writing this my wifi has dropped. My computer doesn't seem to have any problems with it. Wifi sleep policy is set to never and when it does connect to wifi its full strength.

I'm having problems with my D-Link wireless router. Devices can connect to the secured WPA/WPA2 connection with the password, but it doesnt really do anything except for show its connected. I've tried resetting my router completely. I think it has something to do with my Verizon router it goes through. i.e. When I type in 192.168.0.1 or w/e the default is for my router, it used to bring up access to my Verizon router instead of the D-link. I noticed the cables going to the Verizon router where not plugged in correct, (slots 2,3,4 instead of slots 1,2,3) and that fixed the 192.168.0.1 problem, by bringing back the d-link page. However, still not able to recieve internet on connected devices. (I think its somehow connecting to the Verizon router instead of the dual band D-link) --** I use the 2 ghz , not the 5
What's weird is that both my stock captivates would do the same thing. Than after I flashed them the problem completely disappeared.

Strange !!! Got my new Inspire yesterday, connected to WiFi and have been having trouble with my Airport Extreme ever since.
Airport worked perfectly up until then, ever since I keep having to reset the router to get it to work.
Anyone else having sudden trouble with their routers ?

Fixed the problem. My slink router was conflicting with my Verizon router. I checked to see what my dlinks gateway/DNS IP was using some commands in the run/cmd and had to manually asign IP addresses.
The gateway and DNS should be the same.
Subnet 255.255.255.0
IP address is the phone's IP used to connect

If anyone is having problems obtaining an IP after extended periods of not being connected to your wireless router, try setting ur router to channel 11 and setting security to WEP. After I did this, I haven't had a problem reconnecting whatsoever.

My wifi connection is better since the update. You may want to check other things like your router, etc. Try the Wifi Analyzer app available in the market to help you troubleshoot.
wifi not connecting unless turn off then back on?
I'm new to this but Im having wifi issues as well. No matter what wifi i go around i have to turn off then back on my wifi for it to connect. Does any body had this issue or know what might be wrong?
Do you have SSID broadcasting enabled? My Infuse wasn't able to connect to a hidden SSID after the update.. Had to broadcast and enable security to get it to work.
Got the phone today. Wifi issues right off the back. Can't even get past 128kb. lol.
Phone is being returned.
Why was this bumped....

I have had lot of issues with wifi connectivity on my Infuse. The connection to the wifi networks takes a long time and it keeps scanning. After it connects, if the phone is idle for 2 minutes, the connectivity goes off. The signal on the screen shows that wifi is connected but the webpage never loads. I need to toggle wifi to get it working.
I have tried a lot of things to get this issue fixed. I have set the wifi sleep policy to never. I tried using static IP. I installed a few apps from market that try to reconnect when wifi goes off. But none of these worked. I read that you can manually enter the MAC address of your device on ur router to get this issue resolved. But sadly, I stay at a university dorm and I have no control over the router settings. I can't play around with it. I also read that the problem may be due to hidden SSID and tried an app to get a work around but in vain. I'm totally clueless since this issue is seen only in my university wifi network but nowhere else.
It'd be very helpful if the seniors here could guide me into getting my beautiful Infuse connect seamlessly with my wifi network. I love my phone but I'm really sad that it has wifi issues which drive me crazy sometimes...
Thanks in advance.
PS - I had posted the same query in LinuxBozo's Hellraiser FAQ thread but I reposted here since I think more people would read it. I hope the admins don't mind.

did you download that app
typically when you go into a rom with issues...ie you were having the issue stock..it isn't the rom
I have a feeling it is a weak signal from the university's wifi and combined with weak reception from the infuse
out of all of my devices the infuse has the weakest reception

Which app are you talking about?
It's not the weak signal from the university. The routers are installed inside our rooms and the signal strength is either good/excellent. If I come to the hall, the signal strength goes down but at least inside the rooms it's good. But even then, I have this issue. It connects initially but suddenly it disconnects and I cant open a page. But the signal shows it's still connected. It's kinda weird. And I'm surprised no one else has faced this issue. 2 of us have the same phone here and both of us have the same issue.

it is either the network or it is your phones
Sounds like a network issue to me, or possibly a side effect of the Android DHCP lease issue.
http://www.net.princeton.edu/android/android-stops-renewing-lease-keeps-using-IP-address-11236.html
More likely to occur with a large multi-access-point university network.
I don't know if Google has fixed the above issue yet.
I have my Linksys wrt54gs flashed with ddwrt and it allows me to put the routers wifi into various modes such as client mode and repeater.
Basically I want to have my router connect to my Nexus S (or Panache) wifi hotspot, thereby allowing the devices connected to my router by cable to access the internet.
I had this working for months, then one day the PC on my LAN reported it had no internet access and I haven't been able to get it working again reliably since. The router and phone hotspot will connect, but the phone never seems to want to issue the router an IP, so no internety goodness.
Now the phone not wanting to issue the router an IP problem was there from the beginning. I initially solved it by setting up a static wan ip, gateway, and DNS on the routers wan configuration page. This worked well for months, until suddenly it didn't.
Now I've fiddled with it quite a bit and can sometimes get it working on one phone or the other, but it's never really consistent. It might work now, but if I go out and come back l (or try to switch between phones) getting it to work again can be a real hassle.
Anyone have anything like this setup and working reliably? Enquiring minds want to know.

did you ever get this working?
My wife and I both have S3's with Verizon.
Neither of use are rooted/unlocked/flashed. For some reason her phone has a lot of problems reconnecting to our home WiFi. After waking up, it'll see the SSID's of all the networks around us, but it won't attempt to do anything with them.
Only way to get it to reconnect is to cycle wifi or cycle airplane mode.
The wifi settings have been set to "Keep WiFi on during sleep" Only while plugged in on both phones.
I've got the routers set to empty channels (there are 2 routers, one is acting as a range extender, same SSID, different channel), and everything else has no problems.
My phone sometimes does this, say maybe once or twice a week, but hers does it constantly. More like a few times a day for hers.
What can I do?
Did you try and "forget" your network info and reinput the key to connect? Maybe try and remove the network saved info then readd it with a static ip and such since its most likely a dhcp issue on your network?

my wife and I also have GS3's and have the wifi set to turn off when the phone is sleeping. My phone when it wakes up sometimes will not connect to wifi. My phone sees the networks available but wont connect to them. I toggle the wifi off and then back on and then it works fine. It will do this sometimes a few times a day, sometimes it will be fine for a few days. It happens at work and home.
Are you on the latest OTA? I had this problem and it all of a sudden went away after I took an OTA update.

Yes, I am on the latest OTA update.
Latest ota updates here also. I just set her phone to static now so ill post up in a few days with how it goes. I also disabled the extender a few days ago but it did not change anything.
I dont know if i explained the problem properly though.
The system doesnt attempt to do anything at all when this happens. It says there is nothing in range. As soon as you cycle the wifi it magically finds the network and connects without problems.
I had the same problem or something similar to yours. Whenever my S3 goes to sleep, meaning whenever I turn my screen off. If the phone sleeps more than 2 mins and I go to use my wifi. The phone shows I am connected to my wifi network but it takes 20-30secs for my phone to respond to my wifi and it will all of sudden my wifi is back on. I tried everything from rebooting my router. I haven't tried the static ip change but my wife's Rezound doesn't have that problem at all. It got so annoying that now I just leave it on 4G all the time at home. I do have the latest update from Verizon. Hopefully someone can figure it out.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3
The static IP arrangement worked for the wife's phone, and also turning the wifi to never sleep works for me too.
I really don't notice a difference in battery life between having wifi sleep with screen off and staying on all the time, so thats how I left it. Also stops the couple second lag between unlock and reconnecting.
I used to have this problem on my home wireless network. Never could figure it out, so I bought a new router (needed an upgrade anyway) and the problem went away. No idea why the phone had trouble staying connected with my older router (it was a Netgear model). Everything else connected with it fine, but my Galaxy always had problems.

Ya some routers can be a pain. I got a cheap $40 N router that cause more issues then not
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
So, I tried to leave wifi on at all times per the suggestion in post #9. I did notice shorter battery life (not a huge difference). My wifi connect problems reduced, but did not go away. This happens everywhere: home, work, etc. Some times I will be fine for days, and some times it will act up twice in an hour. Don't know what router is used at work, but I know mine at home is a Belkin N router less than a year old. Never had problems with our old phones, and none of my friends at work or home have this problem.
Really wish there was a solution for this.
