I want to install 2 harddrives to my old HP Tower. I would like each of the hard drives to be assigned to separte users, i.e. Myself and my kids. Also, I would run Windows on one harddrive and Linux-based program off the other. My question is, is this possible, and what connectors do I need to plug in 2 separte harddrives to the motherboard?
Yes it is possible. Two SATA ports(maybe other type) on motherboard.

Dear friends
I don't have technical knowledge but I would like to start this thread for developer because I didn't found any discussion about it. If it will possible then it will be a major break-through for Android OS.
Points
Is that possible to read USB (Pen Drive) through cable on android running mobile?
Anybody tried to do it?
Same question for may different card also.
If dev team will got success on this then they can also try to read a hard disk with the support of external power for hard disk.
Our current Android is already reading a Micro SD card.
I think it will be possible because now we have dual core processor too on mobile as well.
It is my humble request to all dev to think about it.
I used I-mate phone for 2 years and started to used it in 2006. Since then I have this question in my mind for more than 5 years. Now it is hard for me to keep in mind.
Please, forgive me if I started a wrong thread at wrong place.

If I read your needs corerctly, there's quite a few threads on this, here's what google finds on xda
This is called usb host, google it and you'll find some links or use xda search
Thanks a lot dear
But, all the things about USB host is not at one place. It is too hard for noobs, like me, too understand and sort out things together.
Further help appreciated.
I have HTC Sensation and Windows mobile 6.1 (I-mate).
Thanks again
This feature is called OTG, and is a part of Honeycomb. It's on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. BTW, it does not work all that well as support for many device classes is not provided.

Moving to General
I own a nexus 7 and I think of XDA as a major component of my android device. I also own an mk808 and I would love to see a section dedicated to android mini PC's and development for mini PC's here at XDA. The handful of smaller forums that do develop for my mk808 basically suck. No offense to anyone. But every download has to be routed through an ad site which half the time doesn't work. I understand people need to get paid but it would be nice if things were functional. Any thoughts on development here at XDA? I would be willing to donate a device if need be. They only cost $60 or so and it would be well worth it for me....Thanks
Any chance of porting Ubuntu to Cappy
Thistutorial show how to install Ubuntu on Nexus7

How about we rather wait for the release of the Ubuntu Phone OS instead of trying to port the desktop version? Using tablet mode on our cappys is exhausting enough both for the phone and our fingers and eyes, not to tell how it would look with a desktop os I also think you missed the sub-forum.
OP this does not belong in the Development section, please read & respect the Forum Rules, (#15) Thank You.
Dear XDA,
I am a new user, so if this post is in the wrong place, sorry.
I am planning to make a custom case for my ville. My plan is to mod a very small usb hub into it. So i can plug in usb cables and stuff. Also i wanna buy a very fast mirco sd card. The hub wil be inserted in the mirco usb port. I wanted to ask if it is possible to boot from such an external micro sd card, outside the one s. If it is possible do i need to root it? Has anyone tried something failiar before? And am i able to charge my phone through the usb hub?
Tanks in advance,
pro-one1000.
I'd say that this is more suited to development or accessories, but I'm sure a moderator won't mind.
Android is based on Linux, so there is no reason why it can''t be possible. It would probably be quite difficult, but definitely do-able.

Thanks for your reply kylepont, nice it can be done!, the next obvious question is how can it be done?

I do no work with programming (I'm taking a crash course in computing in the summer to get a bit of help) so I am probably one of the last people that you should ask to be honest mate. If you repost this (not that a senior member would ever recommend that...) on General or Android Development then you may get a bit more attention from people who know what you are doing.
OK due to an accident I have not been developing anything. However that has changed and in the next 30 days I will be setting up a development network. Here is my question.
What type of laptops should I purchase and what servers should I go with? I want this to be a real work place environment although its something that will be in a spare room.
My thought is I will be purchasing 3 laptops and from the server side a file server, back up file server, development server, and developed app server to run the applications that i have developed.
Any suggestions and links would rock thanks.
Hello,
This is a tricky question in regards to where it fits on XDA. It's only relevant to Android as (I assume) that will be the platform you will be developing for.
I would suggest the device suggestion thread but even that seems weird since the motive there is mobile device.
Feels like the best spot on the site to ask right now would be off topic. I remember seeing a PC hardware article in XDA News a while back, so makes me wonder if there will be PC forums in the future (but I don't see any when I just looked).
Hope this helps, closing the thread now to avoid any confusion from others. Thanks.
