I recently bought Motorola Droid 2 Global Verizon.
I unlocked it and put my sim in it, and everything work perfectly fine except for one thing:
When i make or get calls, i can't hear anything and so as the other side of the phone
and when i make calls there is no ring tone but it is calling and also there is a really poor signal.
Any help? thanks!

Well the poor signal just looks that way because Verizon makes GSM signal look lower than it is. if you open your build.prop file, you can edit the line
Code:
ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1
into a 0 instead of 1 and it will show the actual signal.
As for the calling, I don't know. GSM calling works fine for me on AT&T's network for both 2G and 3G. Sorry :/

A friend of mine gave me a brand new Global 2 that was never activated. It has a Verizon Sim in it and my carrier is T-Mobile. I would like to know where you got the unlock code from. There's allot of sites our there claiming 100% guarantee but I don't know who to trust. Also how hard would this phone be to get on T-Mobile? Thanks for the help...

I got mine from this eBay seller (I hope it's ok to post eBay links). Just remember that the IMEI, which is what that seller needs to provide the code, is not the same as the MEID. To get the IMEI you have to go to Settings > About Phone > Status > IMEI. The IMEI should start with "35".
To get the phone working on T-Mobile, it's as easy as it is for AT&T. Assuming you have the latest .629 update, you have to use RSDLite to downgrade to .330 which will temporarily brick the device. Then use ezSBF to update back to .629. This will preserve the .330 baseband while unbricking your phone. Then all you have to do is root, install CWM using the D2 Bootstrapper, and flash the TBH band hack .zip from within CWM.
Good luck! and If you've got any questions, feel free to PM me.
start with a fully charged battery before starting the band unlock

most d2 globals can be unlocked
for a few the d2g the codes don't work
you will not know if code will work till you try
if the code does not work ask for a 2nd or 3rd code

I actually figured out how to fix it: I changed it to gsm mode only..
But now, after i messed with it a little, I can't search for gsm networks, only for umts.. And when i try change the mode to CMDA, it change it back to gsm/umts mode
Any suggestions?

I stupidly deleted the build.prop, and now the phone won't boot!!!
What do i do now?!

The original carrier is Verizon, but i unlocked it and my carrier is Cellcom(Israel).
I also tried to factory reset it, but it didn't work..
there are a couple of build prop edits you can try

could be one or more of several things
hardware failure
something in the phone may be broken
sim card may be bad, even if it works in another phone, motorolas seem to be very sensitive to sim card issues
software
may need to change the apn setings
may need to do the band unlock if you carrier uses the bands blocked by software
may need to do the build prop edits

Tried, nothing works /:
I'm not responsible if this damages your phone, attempt at your own risk.
Hi everyone, I have stumbled upon what appears to be a working unlock solution for the G flex 2 (LS996). This is essentially a similar method of unlocking the g3, but with my unlocked by sprint node.db files. Currently MMS and Calling are not working for me on ATT, but data (LTE) and texting works. I beleive I know why calling is not working, as well as MMS, but I am not sure how to fix it, I am new to unlocking using root. Anyways, on to the guide.
First you will need to root your G Flex 2
You will also need Root Browser
Now after you have rooted download the files attached to this post
Next transfer the files to your phone if you did not download on your flex2
*Back up your node.db and node.db-library by adding .bak to the end in /carrier/apps
Once the files you downloaded are on your phone extract them to /carrier/apps
Now restart your phone with your non sprint sim card, or sprint if you are unlocking for future use
When the phone boots you should see that it is recognized, but the carrier still identifies as sprint
Go into settings, more, set mode to global, then go to apn settings and add in your apn
Now you should have full sms and data
This is as far as I have got at the moment, but I am working on calling and mms on at&t, it did appear to be working on Verizon though
Now to where I need some help:
First is calling. I think I have identified the 2 things that may be causing the problems. First is call barring, when I opened up a hidden phone menu it said that incoming, outgoing, etc calls were locked. When I try to enter that submenu to unlock them it says something about the sim or crashes. Next is hd calling. When I dial a number there is a hd symbol next to dialing, I don't know what that is, but if it is sending the call over data I am assuming that there is some type of problem with it sending it to a sprint server or something. If someone can help me figure this out I will be very thankful.
My next problem is MMS, on at&T. Whenever I try to send or download one it does not work. I might just have messed up my apn a few times but I doubt it. The MMS settings in hidden menus show up with sprint settings, and I have tried changing them but they just revert. Could anyone help me out?
PS Sorry about adding two files the first one did not show up when I posted and now I don't know how to remove
I am getting hands free activation now and then please help.Tried everything below.

Try this..
with root explorer : Go to system/app or /system/priv-app folder.
Locate Sprintsyncml. Apk
Rename it to Sprintsyncml. Bak
or
Search for OmaDmclient.apk, then click and hold the file till it popups a secondary menu, in secondary menu select RENAME.
Rename OmaDmclient.apk to OmaDmclient.apk.bak and press ok.
or
LGstartupwizard.apk... Which is located at
/system/priv-app
try this options it should work..it will disable the prompt
Thanks only found LGstartupwizard.apk but it is still popping up after rename..Please help

Yes that's true. Take care about permissions setup, use root explorer for that purpose. In three countries I use this phone LTE works mostly in bands 4, I also enabled that band using a guide I found here.

5.1.1 can unlock gsm sim too? Thank You
Changed my build.prof and got calling working flawless, just cant seem to be able to change apn settings.
ro.carrier=spr
ro.build.target_operator=spr
With this, you can also changed the spr to tmo if you want.
Anyone know how to make it so I can change apns?

When in the build.prof editor in Root Toolkit Lite, I simply changed it from "SPR" to "spr".
##data# isn't helping because I dont have the msl/spl. Everytime I go to change the APNs it wont allow me add one in. I can edit files if needed, I just need to be able to edit it haha

@carlosirai, others,
can you help me a bit, as your post intrigued me as follows :
i bought this phone - rooted and unlocked as per method above by ebay seller for international usage.
currently, the phone is technically domestic unlocked and rooted on ZV6. this results in no OTA and node files for SPRINT modified!
as an internationsl user, who will not be using US Domestic providers or Sprint, can i unroot on ZV6? then upgrade to ZV9 then root as/if required and use with an international provider? this usage will be on 3G & LTE ( Bands can be enabled as required, post root )?
thanks in advance!
any help you

Yes to all you said.
You need to flash stock zv6 system image and ota update to zv9, then root with zv9 rooted system image and do the "fixes"...
My goal would be to install Cyanogenmod on my SM-G920R7, but haven't been able to find too much help. Any of the rooting methods that seem to work on rest of the S6 variants, doesn't seem to work on this one. There is no TWRP available that I know of.
I would really appreciate any possible help. Thanks in advance.
i have the same problem
I think that this version of the s6 (the cspire version) isn't widely available enough and no one has bothered to make a root for it - ive been searching for a long time and still haven't found anything
I'd like to at least be able to root this thing.. On 5.1.1 now.
I have a rooted cellphone of this version (I purchased it rooted), is there any workaround to unlock GSM/LTE bands on this device?

Yes, it was SM-G920R7... first, I flashed twrp-3.0.0-0-zerofltespr , then Unikernel-v9b-BOH1-920P-100815 , both via ODIN (you can google both files), note these files are NOT for r7 version (they're for sprint version *g920p*) but they'll root the phone.
I ended up getting rid of the phone as there's afaik no way to enable gsm on it

That's not true. I finally rooted that model and got TWRP installed, and followed the steps to get the Sprint Galaxy S4 domestic SIM unlocked. I'm working on this too. So far I've got the same situation as you, Data works but no calls/text.
in a few weeks the person who wants me to unlock this phone for them is switching carriers and plans on buying a new phone to use until I can unlock the S6, so I'll have more time to mess with it then.
There's a few things I want to try, but I can't post links here (XDA rules).
One involves Rooting and using a service code to unlock the bands (google "TeamUSCellular GSM unlock S6")
The other also requires rooting and involves using "galaxy tools" to unlock the bands (not sure if this app works with marshmallow, though) (google "theandroidsoul how to sim unlock sprint galaxy S6")
My hopes are not high for getting this phone to work fully. I've also been trying to get custom ROMs to work, but I can't get the cell radio to work at all on custom ROMs. Even with the stock SM-G920R7 Kernel straight from the latest update .tar

Thanks for the suggestion, yeah I have tried galaxy tools (GT) to change the phone mode to LTE/GSM auto and tried different CSC values, and accessed the hidden menus through there. The sim unlock in GT asks for a code which I dont know, but the phone doesn't seem to be locked anyway since it doesn't care when I try different sim cards. Weird thing is the GT app doesn't work very well (most hidden menus not working) on the current rom i'm using but worked better on the stock cspire rom. Note, I tried using MSL 000000 in ##3282# data menu and it works but most the settings in there don't seem to be applicable to GSM networks.
Currently I'VE been messing with the build.prop file, also tried the CDMA to GSM flashable zip which edits the build.prop but nothing has gotten better. One time after editing the build.prop the phone would only turn on with a blank screen and vibrate every few seconds, that was SCARY. Also was planning on flashing other radio/modem but having trouble finding many of those files and pulling them from roms seems difficult to get the correct file to flash on odin.

I'm not sure you'll even be able to flash other models' modem..? I can't say I've ever tried.
Anyway, getting your hands on the firmware is easy. Just use SamFirm (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647)
To use it, just input the model number (SM-G920R7/R4/P/V/T/A) and the region code, then select "auto".
Region codes and model numbers:
C-Spire: ACG (SM-G920R7)
US-Cellular: USC (SM-G920R4)
Sprint: SPR (SM-G920P)
Verizon: VZW (Locked out from download, app can't download) (SM-G920V)
T-mobile: TMB (SM-G920T)
ATT: ATT (Locked out from download, app can't download) (SM-G920A)
This app downloads firmwares directly from Samsung servers, so the download is really fast and guaranteed to be perfect/stock.
**the SM-G920R7 is closest related to the SM-G920R4 (US Cellular) & SM-G920P (Sprint). The US Cellular one recently supports GSM Bands natively without any rooting/messing with hidden settings, so that's where i'd start. You may not even need the baseband/modem, just flash the rom? I'm not sure. Good luck dude It'd be awesome if you get it working
*** Also, make sure you have a backup of your EFS before messing with the modem. Apparently if you flash an incompatible modem you can erase/corrupt the EFS partition and lose your IMEI. Hell, make a FULL backup with TWRP, and make sure that backup is copied over to your computer before doing any flashing. You can't be too careful with this.
Haven't had any luck flashing stock firmware or modems from other models using Odin, errors with a security message or something, tried G920A and G920R4. Probably for the best I suppose. Flashing custom roms has not been a problem, even if the don't work properly. Wonder if there is a test mode or way to use logcat to see why calls don't proceed like normal. Never worked on going CDMA to GSM before, I always did CDMA to CDMA in the past.
I have been trying to get my S8 Plus ATT Unlocked phone onto Verizon for over 5 hours. And my latest attempt got me on the blue screen with "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." I can't get into Download mode or anything . I can't get anywhere off this screen. I tried Smart Switch and it says device is unsupported. Can I get this phone back?
At this point, I will paypal someone money who can help me get it back and better yet, working on Verizon. Unlock code has already been entered.

that is a modified download mode. Meant to scare you...
We encounter this while rooting as well...
you can still flash in odin from this screen:good:
Restore your stock firmware
or flash the unlocked firmware in comsey or odin one 9550u1

Thanks! I flashed a VZW firmware but phone still comes up as ATT and my verizon sim still doesn't work. Don't I just need to find a Verizon Firmware and use odin? Or re there more steps to get Verizon on it?
Thank you.

Apparently the unlock didn't take or even AT&T it would take the Verizon's sim.
Try to reflash the AT&T build.. The on board radio has to reach the server to unlock the sim. After that it should be time to play. Carrier builds are dumb that way.

You usually have to be on the carrier build for the NCK codes to work.. Keep the email handy in case you need to contact support to get a second code, but it's unclear if you will actually need to.

BTW.. forget Smart Switch.. For all the pushing it as actually helping you.. I'd rather have had Kies
Currently a number of people are having issues with their Sprint versions and the OTA Sep update. I am just trying to start a new thread to help people coming from other places as to what their options may be.
Just to clarify I personally have a locked Sim and have not fixed the issue (I purchased the phone used from Amazon "Unlocked" but it was apparently a sprint version).
Currently can the phone (with the OTA) be rooted and flash an older version of the bootloader and modems? using Magisk (I believe this is still being discussed and worked on).
Can Sprint unlock the phone and it work? Either going down to a spring store, or doing the phone number deal?
I have been running through the same thought process. Had the phone for 6 months, now it doesn't work.
I was about to go to a Sprint store today to sign up for a monthly plan and port my number there (from Verizon). I am monthly on Verizon, so no real harm, except the rest of my family will remain on Verizon. After 50 days, apparently Sprint will unlock your phone, so I was going to do that in 2 months. Maybe Sprint will be better in the end??
But before I do that I may try the root and flash. Just that I use this phone for work, and I can't keep it rooted due to Blackberry restrictions. Which isn't that big of a deal to manage, but just a pain...
Anyone else thinking about just signing up for sprint for a few months to do this?

In the Sprint unlock sim thread is a guide that might work.Starts on reply 221..I'm at work and can't try right now

I figured i would check with sprint and they can't validate my IMEI number on their website or with a customer service rep. Although i still have 2 weeks left of my ATT account i guess i have to wait till i'm good and ready to move forward with this. What a hassle. I might try and explore these options of root once everything gets figured out with the touch issues (without having to use an "OTA mouse" which i don't even know what that is) so we will see.

I bought mine secondhand & was pleased that it just worked after I inserted my T-Mobile SIM.
receiving the Invalid SIM message after the Sept Pie update really crushed me.
I've reached out to Essential Support who stated:
Thanks for reaching out. This error message indicates that this device was originally purchased from Sprint and never properly unlocked from their network. The recent update didn't lock the phone directly, but rather was just a trigger for the device to check its carrier-lock status.
I've reached out to the seller on eBay & am hoping I can have them perform a SIM unlock with Sprint. If not, I'll be requesting a full refund.
I'll update once more progress has been made, for anyone else in the same situation.
I downgraded to an earlier nouget build and then flash the unlocked modem files to get the phone to work with T-Mobile again. Of course this means I can't upgrade the phone past the August update since it will re-lock the phone. If you can get a refund, I would. I probably going to have to go to Lineage OS since I bought mines off Craigslist.
Unlocked for months......
In the bootloader, my phone states "Device State- unlocked" still getting invalid SIM. I left sprint months ago, with a fully purchased phone. They were not helpful, once stating that a device cannot be unlocked, and relocked, then telling me I'm not a customer, not their problem. I am going to try and install Oreo, and see if that helps.

You can update to september build and it won't relock.
Stuck
I have been trying for hours to install an older ota, but i keep getting a prompt that downgrad not allowed. any help?
well, i'm happy to say, i'm on Sept 2018 (PPR1.180905.036) and i'm able to get my T-Mobile SIM to work again
below are the steps I performed
(DISCLAIMER: the below commands are from memory, you may need to confirm the correct verbiage if the commands do not take properly)
you'll need a few things:
- NMK24B (get fastboot version from https://www.essential.com/developer/current-builds)
- modem files (provided by ziddey - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77532356&postcount=20)
- PPR1.180905.036 (OTA version, from same Essential Developer Overview site listed above)
- ADB/fastboot files for your OS (I use Minimal ADB from https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790)
- Android Debugging enabled
- a good quality USB3 cable that provides both data & power
steps:
- back up anything you feel is important & move off of your phone
- reboot to bootloader (either via ADB commands or via holding VolDown during power on)
- ensure your phone is recognized by running fastboot devices
- unpack the NMK24B zip file & place it in same folder as your ADB/fastboot files
- run flashall.bat (if on Windows, command varies for your desktop OS)
- wait
- place the modem files into your ADB/fastboot folder as well
- flash the modem files (fastboot flash modemst1 modemst1.img followed by fastboot flash modemst2 modemst2.img)
- if you receive a message stating unable to flash modem partitions, you may need to reflash NMK24B again. otherwise, the modem files will not take properly
- reboot to recovery
- to be safe, I performed a factory reset here, may not be necessary for your scenario
- place the OTA zip file into your ADB/fastboot directory
- select option to install via sideload
- install Sept 2018 Pie PPR1.180905.036 via adb sideload PH1-OTA-PPR1.180905.036.zip
- allow time to complete & boot
NOTE: during the entire process, I had removed my SIM & placed in a different device
after the long boot-up, I was greeted with the Android setup where I connected to my WiFi network
I chose to not copy any data & set up as new. I also let the phone sit charging & on wifi for ~30 mins
I powered off, inserted my SIM & found that it was no longer rejecting it. I also verified my APN settings were correct for T-Mobile. I received a few SMS messages during this period & felt confident service was working properly.
because I like a clean configuration, I went ahead & performed a factory reset from inside Android settings menu, rebooted & began setting up from a previous backup
thanks to everyone that was able to provide much needed help. I hope the rest of you are just as lucky with regaining service on your phone
Thanks Jon -
My mother in law just had the same experience after being on a non-sprint network for 3 months. Today she got the INVALID SIM alert. I noticed under the About phone tab that there was a new header called Brand and it had Sprint below it. I called Sprint and they confirmed the phone was fully unlocked and ready for domestic and international use. I emailed Essential and got a generic response:
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. This error message indicates that this device was originally purchased from Sprint and never properly unlocked from their network. The recent update didn't lock the phone directly, but rather was just a trigger for the device to check its carrier-lock status.
If you are the original purchaser, and you have fulfilled all of your contract obligations with Sprint, you should be able to contact them to have the device properly unlocked.
If you purchased second-hand, the seller did not have this device unlocked from Sprint before selling it to you. We recommend seeking a return / refund, as this device will not be able to function on a different carrier. Unfortunately, Essential has no ability to remove carrier locks on devices. This can only be done by Sprint by the original purchaser of the device. If you are unable to get a refund or exchange, we suggest filing a dispute with the marketplace (e.g. eBay), as this device was sold to you with a carrier lock.
Sincerely,
Essential
Essential Customer Experience Team
What a generic response. I even noted that I verified with Sprint that the phone was fully unlocked. Now she has no backup and we're in the midst of a storm that can potentially take out her landline. Essential team really dropped the ball on this.

that's the exact same response I received from Support when I reached out to them. I didn't want to wait for Sprint or my seller to confirm the unlock status so I decided to reattempt flashing again. thankfully, I wasn't too invested into the setup yet & was able to accept the resets that occur during flashing.
Sorry to hear about your current situation, I hope Essential is able to identify a fix for everyone that's affected
Downgrade

If you are unable to flash certain partitions, you may need to perform a flash critical_unlock. I'll share the actual command when i return to my PC but the command should also be listed in other threads here
commands:
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
fastboot flashing unlock

So fellow essential owners -
If you complain to sprint about your problem (or just tell what it is, really) and then tell them you don't feel like you should be paying for anything - they will let you do the One free year of service bring your own device promotion! Doesn't matter what service it is - as long as your number is eligible to be ported you get one free year of sprint service. I chose to go to the sprint store to get my sim card (so i can use my essential today) and they waved the sim card fee and sprint called me back and set it up! Now I have my essential phone back! It's marvelous! I bought a temporary phone for a couple hundred and I immediately missed my essential thank goodness i can return the other phone. It works out! Just make sure your number is active so you can port it. Free service for A YEAR, legitimately, if you do it right. I have total equipment protection on for 13 a month but you can turn it off at any time. Just a heads up! It's worth switching to sprint for me to keep my essential working, i have my old number, and possibly a better carrier.

Can't downgrade through OTA, you must install the fastboot files through adb
