[Q] Will Nexus 4 be available with Canadian Providers on release date? - General Questions and Answers

Will the Nexus 4 also be available with Canadian service providers on release date (Nov 13th)?
Or will it just be available from Google Play online?
I have heard that there are warranty advantages with ordering directly from Google Play such as device replacement immediately, before sending back old device, this is one of the main reasons I intended to order from Google Play.

Google Play Store selling 2 unbranded variants - one for the Americas and one for the rest of the planet (Euro & Asia) due to bands used by carriers, that's far less than the iOS products sold for their eco systems. And, both are unlocked - there are unconfirmed rumors that those sold directly by Sprint (with CDMA/LTE bands) might - MIGHT - have extra bloats loaded as they resell them with a highly marked up price for postpaid contract customers.
Otherwise, mine came from Google directly and running T-Mobile USA sim, and there is nothing else on it.

I have a Sprint Nexus 4 on T-mobile. Same exact phone. Same model number, same build number, and 100% factory unlocked with ZERO bloat. So that rumor is confirmed. I also got best buy to price match the play store price.
so hopefully it won't matter what network i go on, the phone should be bloatware free?
do you have any regrets getting it?

[Q] OTA Updates ?

Hi there, I am in the UK and as my user name suggests I currently have a Moto Razr Maxx which I bought a few years ago, it was an imported phone from outside the UK and because of its non-EFIGS firmware build the OTA updates were withheld leaving me stuck on ICS4.0.4. I am now looking to update my hardware and the Nexus 5 looks the way to go. What I do NOT want is to fall into the same trap again and have another phone that will not get the OTA updates.
I have sourced a nexus 5 reseller (Google claim out of stock for a long time now) but the phone is imported form 'overseas' it is a LG-D821 model which is sold as the 'international' version. Can anyone tell me if the Nexus phone firmware is regionalised like my Motorola or if I will get all the updates without the need to go the route of ROMs etc?

There are only 2 models. North America D820 and RoW D821. None of them are carrier branded, locked or restricted in any way. They all get OTA's exactly as they are intended, no matter where in the world you are.

[Q] us vs uk phone?

Bought a OPU in the UK, where I currently live, but I might be moving the US within the next year for my job. Are the UK and US versions of the phone the same (e.g., LTE radios)? Or are the 4g/lte or other hardware different and/or incompatible? I tried looking up to find out if the OPO has a world phone vs a us phone like the Nexus 5 but couldn't find any info.
If you buy it directly from OnePlus it's the same phone anywhere in the world unless you but it in mainland China, then it's the Chinese version.

Will Indian Phone get Android Updates specific to USA, if phone is in USA??

Hi All,
Currently I am living in USA & planning to visit India next month for 2-3 weeks. I am currently using Moto Z Play which I bought from USA & now thinking to buy Motorola one Vision from India.
My question is apart from bands will I get USA specific updates??? Will I be able to use USA specific Android applications?? For my current phone I am able to use all USA specific applications & my current moto z play is on RETUS Software channel.
I really like moto one vision & want to use it in USA.
looking forward to hear from you...!!!
Regards,
Gaurav Shah
If your system software update is from the device manufacture other than the carrier, you will continue to get updates when you are in India.
If you log in Google Play with your original google id, you are able to use USA specific Android applications.

Updates are controlled by your provider. Your device will get updates if your carrier offers updates for your model number. If they do not support your specific model number, you will not receive OTA updates from your carrier. If the manufacturer offers an update for your model number but your specific carrier does not, you can download the update and manually flash the update on the device. In this manner, you can update the device, it just won't be via OTA.

Question Who controls updates for carrier Pixels

So I know that carrier versions of the Pixels have locked bootloaders. That doesn't really bother me anymore as i haven't rooted my phone in awhile.
However, I remember that before (Pixel 2 3 4 5 days) if you had a Pixel from the carrier vs a Unlocked one directly from google. After Google released an update (mainly an OS update) it would first have to be approved by the carrier somtimes significantly delaying the update vs people who had one straight from google got the updates right away. Is this still the case or do all pixels get the update when google releases it.
Thinking of doing the ATT trade in promo to get the Pixel 7 pro for free but delayed updates would turn me off the offer.

I have had the T-Mobile variant of the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and now the 7 Pro and all of my updates have come from directly from Google.
It may vary with other carriers.

Probably. In January the VZW was dropped wit the Google and in Feb it was the T-Mobile that dropped at the same time
Pixel 7 Pro on AT&T here. I haven't noticed any delays in Android updates. They seem to be coming straight from Google.
