Samsung Galaxy S3 or LG Nexus 4? - General Questions and Answers

I'm going to buy a new smartphone and I'm between the S3 and nexus 4.
I'll be glad to hear for some opinions!

Here we go again.

S3

nexus 4, cheaper and got pure google android experience and look
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

I'd go with the nexus 4... can always be sure that it gets the latest android version. Concerns with nexus 4 if you need a lot of storage... only has 16gb. (I prefer 16gb all local vs. having an emmc) Also some are concerned about the glass backing. (I wouldn't be TOO concerned w/ the glass backing... you could throw a case on it... I also heard of the possibility of different back panels). Any benefits the GS III provides would be offset by the price imo.

Guys have you'll seen the New Benchmarks for the N4? Crazy! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1977708
Go with the Nexus 4 If you dont mind 16 GB and the glass cover being fragile!

Then you'd be feeling wrong .

Its a no brainer. Galaxy S3 has got a lot more to offer.
But everyone has a personal preference, right?

samsung galaxy s3

S3 if you need more storage space

Go for the Nexus 4 if you don't need storage more than 16GB. else Nexus 4 all the way.

nexus 4. :good:

Nexus 4 bc of faster ROM updates

[Q] Phone to replace my NS i9023

Hi,
I believe the title says it all. I was pretty sure my next phone will be Google Experience. I really love the community and opportunities with this. I had Sony Xperia for about a month and it was terrible with support. But Nexus 4, apart from being much more expensive when bought from a shop and not from Google (which doesnt sell to Czech Republic), has one thing that I really hate - a battery that cant be easily replaced. Im used to carrying one spare (or more when on a longer trip) on me and I can easily switch them even when staning on a crowded bus. I couldnt do that with N4.
So, do you find this to be such a serious issue I consider it to be? And what other phones would you recommend, please?
Galaxy Nexus. Or hacked Galaxy S3 as a second choice. Maybe an HTC One X with CM10 could be a really sexy phone too.

Galaxy Nexus would be the best, no doubts. Don't go for N4, it doesn't seems to go good so far. A few bugs have already been discovered.

Isnt it a bit ... big ... ?
If u wanna stay nexus, go galaxy nexus, the prices should even be lower due to the n4 being out
Sent from my awesome Nexus S
The Nexus Series has its own reputation and of them all, its Development support. While the Nexus 4 is claimed to be bugged with buzzing sound and no Out-of-the-box OTG, it couldn't be considered better than the Galaxy Nexus. The same being the reason for me to buy Galaxy Nexus too, in a month or two.
I too find Note series a bit big for a smartphone to carry in our pockets. No offense to anyone's opinions

Sadly, no because the new flagship doesn't even intend to stand near the Galaxy Nexus. But the price is fine enough for such an amazing device. :highfive:
I think Note 2 is the best choice!
I would go for the Galaxy Nexus. :good:
How much cheaper is the galaxy nexus in your country?

Galaxy Nexus is €295, Nexus 4 is €458, its more than €150 difference. And the inability to change battery with N4 is bad too. Looks to me that I will go for Galaxy Nexus.
BTW should we even talk together? Your country keeps our citizens arrested for espionage!
Keep in mind that the galaxy nexus has poor battery life.
We hold your devs hostages! Pay the ransom so we can solve our financial problems!

Wanting to switch my galaxy nexus for a note 2

It just hit me today, that I want to get a Note 2. Im wanting a bigger device and for awhile I've been wanting the DNA and also am waiting what the M7 has to offer. But i know that will only be a 4.7 in screen. I still don't know 100% yet. But the Note 2 looks sweet and I've heard great things about it. So anyone that had the galaxy nexus that made the switch happy with their choice? Its hard to leave a device that gets updates quite often but I can always root the note so just curious what people here think

Yes. Use either ExynosAbuse or CF Autoroot.
Exynos Abuse is about as simple as you can get

I switched from the Nexus to the Note 2 about 3 weeks ago and I have to say I loving it. I liked the Nexus, but the Note 2 is better in every way. Love the screen, awesome battery life, easy to root and unlock, pretty good development. I can't think of a negative right now.

Ya sometimes I wonder if there are just so many different things that you can do with the note 2 I wouldn't know what to do with it Haha. But yes, a big battery and an SD card is a plus for me. I'm a very heavy user on my device and it would be nice to have one last me all day without a charge.

should I change my s3 for a Nexus 4?

If I don't mind having LTE or not and a non-removable battery. Should I sell my S3 and buy a Nexus 4? My only concern is Speed and can't take pictures at night .

Of course u can!!! N4 > S3.
But, I reccomend u to save money to buy S4!!!

S3 to nexus 4? I think it's better to get the s4. I use nexus 4 though and I'm so happy with the performance of this device. Awesome design too unlike s3 or s4.

are you guys sure that N4 is faster ?
Just get a dslr because s3 to nexus 4 is just aint worth it
The upgrade isn't worth it the s3 has great devoloment and its a great device

It is more of a price diffrence. When you buy a Nexus 4 (unlocked I might add) you are getting more for less.
I think both phones are awesome.
What I dont like about the S3:
AEOLED is too young. It burns out, and the pixels actually die out (happened to my S2).
Too expensive.
Way too big.
What I dont like about the Nexus 4:
No SD expansion (but everything is becoming cloud based anyways, which means CW Recovery must be a pain).
Poly-whatever battery (can't remember the name). Just like AEOLED, the technology is still young. The battery is dangerous, and also loses charge capacity rather quickly.
I prefer the N4 over the S3. With a little salt as well.
These are my observations. Please click thanks if you found this useful at all.
I switched from a s3 to a nexus 4 and i love it!. I will probably only buy nexus devices from now on! I love the clean look of having no physical/capacitive buttons on the front! :victory:

Hah from now on pretty much any phone I own will end up on PA. Anyway, to bring the thread back on topic I don't think it's worth it if you have to pay anything, but if it's free then I personally would do it.
Save your money for the S4. That is my plan, though i have been stuck on a Bionic for almost 2 years...
save our money for S4
Nexus 4 is a good choice
If you aren't losing money, then the Nexus 4 would be a good alternative. I, personally, would rather have a Nexus 4, but Verizon botched having the Galaxy Nexus, so that won't be happening.

I dont know how about your country, but in Ukraine it's very expencive, so better save your money if S3 suits you

I'm upgrading next month

Its been 2 years since I had my nexus. It was a great device and didnt really feel dated to me until this year. I already have my iPhone 5, so I guessim going to use this upgrade for a galaxy note 2. But my question is, what do you think would be the best successor to this device? I'm not sure if I'll even hack at this point anymore because my house now has WiFi and using my cell as a hotspot was main point.

Galaxy Note 2. Never look back...
Galaxy s4? Or htc one
Yeap note 2 no doubts

Nexus 4, the 16gb version, it's less expensive and has better suport. The one looks cool now but vhen the s4 comes it vill just ne another htc, whereas the nexus is still The Nexus!

i guess the N4 comments are from people that didn't read he has SPRINT!!! Note2 seems to be the popular one of course... send me a PM, when you're ready to upgrade... i might have a hookup for ya
Got nexus4, note 2 , galaxy tab 2 7.0, 10.0 and note 10.1, tf300t , nexus 7 and GS 2.
I say go with note 2, small enough to fit into or pocket, not bulky to play games on it, closer to handheld console than large tabs, not too small. I love the spen.
Bottom line. If I could take only one device. Note 2 would let do all that I would wanna do in both phones and tablets.

Thinking about

Trading my note 3 for a nexus 5 maybe galaxy s4 or 5
The novelty of a huge screen has worn off. Touchwiz is good but I don't use its features. I haven't had a nexus since galaxy nexus.
Is it worth it?

If you decide to trade for a S4 or a N5 then make sure to get cash with the trade. I personally came from the Note 3 & traded for a (brand new at the time) 32gb black N5 still in plastic, plus $150 cash & never looked back.
sent from my neXus 5
Imo HTC M8 > S5 by far. The N5 is the cheaper option but still a strong phone.
In the end it is you who needs to make the decision and who's gonna use the phone try to think about it for yourself, go in stores to try some phones. Whatever others on XDA or anywhere may say, the point here is that you get a phone that makes you happy, and only you know which one that is
