I have seen many sense rom ports put out that are on ics, or sense 3.5 and higher, for the shift with none having 4g working. None of these seem to have come from other sprint HTC devices except the og EVO. Is it possible to try using a 3d or 4g LTE rom that has 4g working and port it to the shift or are their files incompatible? Trying to figure this out so we can have 4g on the higher end roms with sense. Thanks
*btw I am sure this has been tried, but you never learn without asking questions*

I haven't tried sense 3.6 or higher yet because of how much work they are. A couple of people more talented than I have tried and moved on to other projects. We do have some extreemly good sense ROMs with working 4g already. newSENSE, newRUNNY, MikRUNNY, MikShiftedG, Supreem Sense just to mention a few.
From what I've seen, I think most of the problem is that the complexity of the file structures increase as you go higher. It becomes more tedious and difficult to first find all the dependent files, and then to even try to get them to work with each other how they are meant to.

I have tried all the roms you mentioned Chad, currently running mikshifted g. I tried porting it with a ROM from the 4g LTE but got stuck in a boot loop. Haven't had the chance to try different kernals with it.

One thing I've been doing is to use the same sense version in my base as the port. 3.0 to 3.0 or 3.5 to 3.5 etc. (these run on gingerbread) I have been consistantly unable to figure out how to port something to the shift we don't already have like 4.0 (that runs on ics). There is a big difference between gingerbread and ics.
Yeah, I know that platypus has a ROM for the shift that is sense 4.0 and ics but only basic stuff works on it and I don't think he is working on it anymore. The guys at evervolv, mainly preludedrew, have a jb ROM with everything working except 4g, but I just prefer sense over aosp stuff.
Sent from my PG06100 using xda app-developers app
I forgot to mention that I also only work on deodexed ROMs. As I learn more I am hopeing to be able to help bring 4.0 to the Shift but the sense ics ROMs I've looked at are all to big. The shift's limited to 512mb of space. My first attempt at a sense 3.6 had the system folder at 588mb. :banghead:

I never thought of the space part of the ROM. I wonder if getting rid of a lot of the standard .apk's that are included within the ROM would help the size of it. Then could just download what apps you feel are needed and move them to the sd card if they are able to be moved, or if somehow can get a2sd working within the ics rom itself.
The problem as I was looking at it was that I don't know what apks need to be in the system folder and what do not. Some are obvious but not all of them are. I put that project on the back burner and will go back to it later.

I am going to try comparing some things to see if I might get a sudden spark of genius lol. Doubt that anything will come from it but you never know until you try it. I am going to look into a sense 3.0 rom, a sense 3.6 rom, and a sense 4.0 rom and compare what files are where etc... As I said I doubt anything will come from it but you never know until you try.

I'm working right now. Could you post a link? I'd like to take a look at it.
There are several but here is onehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799376
Any particular reason why you like this one or are you just longing for sense 4.0 goodness? I want it too. Thats one reason I've been tring to learn to port sense is to work my way to that. There is a guide in wiki on creating your first kernel. Maybe I should shift gears in that direction? I don't know.

So this seems to be the standard of all standard mods for Sense 3 so I thought I'd port it first and post it for everyone to use.
Requirements
rooted
using a DEODEXED ROM
must know how to use ADB or have CWM installed
I used Paul's deodexed stock ROM to build this from.
Had my buddy jface test it out and it seems to be working, here's a screenie he sent me back

You can either flash the attached zip (untested, someone test it for me!), or push the attached SystemUI.apk to /system/app/SystemUI.apk.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP! Just do it. Always. It's so much easier than having to recover from a bad flash or something.
good look bro you beat me to it hahaha thanks man!!

can this be merged with UOT? that mod themes the battery and also patches SystemUI.apk.
So only 1 sticks .
The flashable zip does not work for me.

Has anyone tested to see if this works on Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMS?
Sadly I'm still rocking an HTC HD2 and I'm running 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1.
I don't mind being a guinea pig after a nandroid backup but I just figured I'd ask if anyone tried it yet first.
It won't work. You will get a systemui fatal error and a force close loop.

Good to know. Does anyone here in this thread know how I can apply these same changes to my current systemui.apk?
I really like the Extended QuickSettings but I'm not too interested in running a Sense 3.0 ROM on a less than capable device like the HD2.

From the code I've looked at on Sense 3 ROMs, they typically define whether something is Sense 3 or 2 compatible. So in a real-world example when you're looking at Rosie it has two completely different implementations between 2.1 and 3 and they're both there in the code base. There was no such distinction with quick settings
Dumb ranting aside, I don't see a reason why it won't work on a Sense 2.1 device running Gingerbread. Shoot me over your SystemUI.apk and I might be able to port it. No promises, blind developing sucks

So, I think it IS possible, but it would take quite some time to go through and merge all the changes and match up all the IDs. I don't have the time or patience to do this as it takes a long time to communicate back and fourth for one single change, or error, etc etc.
Maybe an experienced smali hacker from the HD2 can port it over?
Sorry man

I just wanted to say thanks to guys for the work on ICS on the Captivate. I'm an experienced flasher (almost addicted), and I'm impressed. Thread can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363760
I did a few things little different because I've never quite liked the CM Rom, but that's just me. I flashed mine over Cognition 5v2, but you have to twice. Also, I had to go back and put on the uckb1 modem....and started getting 2 to 3 bars on my signal where I used to never get any, with any phone. Slapped in Contol Freak and overclocked it to 1.3 ghz, Volume Control+ for some volume, and this sucker is blazingly fast, amazingly stable, and makes the Cappy even that much more impressive.
Sad part...two days ago was showing off my Super Soldering skills I did on applying Adam's Unbrickable Mod (yes I had my phone apart with the board in my hand in the middle of Wal-Mart's parking lot) when my screen slid off the car and sadly is now cracked....and it's still amazing!
The crazy crap that happens at Wal*Mart. Wtf lol

I love ICS on my cappy, I used Onecosmic's ICS 4.0.3 RC2.11 for i897 and couldn't be happier, I went from a non-rooted stock 2.3.5 to a rooted ICS and JVT modem which effectively fixed all my GPS woes as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
Absolutely love ICS. Thank you to all that worked on it. My phone has been really stable and usable. Love it. I was planning on selling it and invest into something new but not anymore. I'll use it until it dies or someone gifts me a newer phone. **Doesn't happen often.
Thanks again ICS team.

Teamhacksungs ICS build 13 is what I am using now, and it is very stable. The main advantage for myself is the increased battery life, way better stock web browser, among other things, you should give it a try. (I have been using it since way back, like build 3, lol)
They updated today to build 14 but I don't see any improvements in it that are relevant for the way I use the phone, so I am going to skip 14 and see what happens with build 15.
Hope this helps.

Flash back to stock first (I use kh3 one click with cwm) then flash teamhacksung Rom, let boot fully, flash gapps 7.1, reboot and enjoy.
You must flash back to stock gingerbread first cause u probably have voodoo enabled on ur file structure, therefore ics won't install.

Glad it worked out ics is like a totally different experience.
I can't go back to gingerbread after ics, lol. I also found cm7 (181) to be very stable too .
Just be sure before flashing custom roms, its a good idea to keep that one click handy due to differences in file structures, it avoids a lot of frustration.

haha why in the world would you do that its like exynos vs snapdragon . FIGHT >_<
Not only that, but pushing random libs has had a history of hard bricking this phone...
I'm not "pushing random libs" and also I didnt just take a rom from the SII and cram it down my phones throat. I removed their kernel and took MANY files from our cm7, I'm not aimlessly copy-pasting. I switched out the necessary files to get it to boot, and removed the exynos specific firmware and modules and replaced it with our own qualcomm files. I think part of the reason it didnt boot was I hadn't tried reflashing da g's cm7 kernel, something tells me the zip didn't flash it right. Although it takes way too much trial and error, so I'm thinking of working with the Miui patch rom for a faster port.

so unless you can suggest to me a phone that is also made by Samsung and shares the chipset, and has CM7 or miui released for it.. telling me It's a bad idea doesnt help the port very much, If my phone shall be bricked it shall do so for a good cause I appreciate the concern and warning

Okay. Good, good. Just sounded a bit like you were. Definitely sounds like you know what you're doing then, haha. Trying to steer people away from things we've known to bork our picky phone is all.

what i can say to you fortune is this no one's gonna be steered away from these projects but you have to understand unless cm7 finishes there is no way miui will progress because stock won't do it for miui, if that was the case id port miui too without my eyes being blinked..lets all work with each other and help each other as much as possible. what i can suggest for devices to look @ i believe are t989 which is somewhat close not alot ..but thats another one to try and see and also samsung epic 4g is another one..
I will work on it for a bit, soon it should be working haha
Im trying to port an aokp ics rom but it bootloops everytime. here is a logcat with the errors but i have no idea what it means......if someone could look into this for me and help me out it would be appreciated!
you probably replaced too many libs, are you porting from the Sensation?

Yes from sensation. But I don't think I replaced any libs. But is there a better device to port from. I tried my4g and got same result except I couldn't get a logcat it kept repeating over and over.

i am getting no where with this......
ok i got this to boot!!!! but everything is crashing upon boot. error message: Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped. i replaced the libs from this rom with the ones from wildchild ice and it booted!!!! now to make it work........any guidence would be welcomed!!!:victory:

i am still stuck. after it boots it looks as if every app is force closing. the most persistant is the com.android.phone is not responding. if anyone knows a workaround for this it would be helpful
i wanted to use the new cm 9.1 as base for this rom but i got it working with wildchild ice as base so no keyboard. i will try a few more things to get this to work with cm 9!!!!!
I have just been informed that you cant port aokp onto a cm9 base. can anyone else confirm this?

I can't prove it one way or another but I DO know that WildChildIcE's last "daily" was AOKP but for him to fix the few remaining issues (one of them being the keyboard) he based his last "nightly" off of CM9 code. That's why "ROM Control" works in the daily but force closes in his nightly.
**You ought to give it another shot with his last nightly.**

That sucks. But on the bright side I think I have this porting stuff down. It's pretty easy. Any cm9 based Roms you are interested in seeing on our phone. Until the keyboard is fixed on aokp I won't be trying those.....
Well, why not his last nightly then since you're already familiar with how it's put together? IMHO, you couldn't ask for a more fantastic ICS Rom to fine tune what you've learned on. There are a couple I'm aware of for the EVO 4G Supersonic that are very nice ROMs or would a Sensation Rom be a better suggestion given the hardware?
DUUH...nevermind the first part. LOL

I sensation works haven't tried evo. I'm really noob at this so if something doesn't work I probably won't be able to fix it. But I am up for suggestions and I don't have permission to use anything yet.
And aokp without Rom control might as well be cm9
Yeah, that dawned on me about the same time I typed it. I'll look around a bit & see if I recognize anything that might look good on a DS.

would ice cold sandwich work? although i'm not sure if it's a CM base or not, it does have CM components though.

You need to re-sign all the system apks. You probably mix and matched the frameworks & apps of the ROM you want to port. Some ROMs are too picky with signature verification in which all core system apks it has should have a matching signature & date signed.

Also guys I have this ambitious project of porting Sense 4.5 jellybean ROM to our doubleshot
I believe I can do it(75% yes) problem is with resizing the apks to our device resolution. Anybody willing to collaborate with me? I'm really bad with graphics editing plus don't really have the time to edit thousands of xml files & images. But I believe I could port it's kernel to make it work with our devices.
So I'll be starting this project as soon as the kernel sources are released for the devices getting the updates.
could it be possible to make a cm10 ville c2 version????
asense it's pretty heavy and makes the system lag,so if some nice guy ported cm10 on our devices(which numbers are growing since s4 are rare)I'd really be grateful to him :victory::victory:

the snapdragon s3 version of the phone. For asia
May make, but do not reveal yet. Most likely they will be busy after the release of a stable version for the S4
It's not only for Asian market. Big parts of Europe only have the VilleC2 availible.
I've already asked the CM Team this question. That's their answer:
The developer relations contact is a way that developers in the community
can get in contact with CyanogenMod developers. This contact is not
intended as an extra outlet for support.
If a device is currently unsupported, there are two possible reasons as to
why.
1.) If the device was previously supported and is no longer supported, this
means the previous maintainer has either left the CM team, or has become to
busy with their own life to continue the work.
2.) It is because there is not a developer on the CM team that is willing
to take on the work to maintain it.
In either case, if you would like to see support for this device, the best
thing to do would be to find a member of the community who is willing to
work on this device. This person would need to create a properly working
device folder, and submit it to us through our devrel initiative.
Thanks,
thanks for the answers but I think that after having flashed trickdroid 3.0 I'll be just fine, now I'm ok with the phone
if anyone wants to port cm10 is welcome
I always think that the easiest way would be a port of the HTC sensation Rom. The other way around they used the c2 Rom to port sense 4 etc to their device. That's because it's quite close to our hardware

It would definitely be possible to port it from my ROM but you'd need to do quite a few changes as I'm sure it will have a different board and display panel, mostly kernel related. If you need any help let me know but I don't have the device to test on.

I would be willing to test ROMs on my phone. But I have absolutely no experience with coding and building Android ROMs whatsoever.
I've tried to port cm10 from sensation but had no success.

+1:good:
We really need somebody to work on CM10, heck by the end of november Lemon Pie will be out, and we are still on ICS . I would help with informations, testing, I would even donate and maybe can start donate campaign if someone will started porting this to our device. The only conrsen for me is camera, I don't think that aosp or cm camera is as capable as the one htc provided.
I will test the pre-release version and donate if someone is willing to make cm10 available for hos s3.

I'll try to compile the HTC source for the ville c2 when I have time, that should at least get it booting and I could do with a system dump from somebody on the latest stock ROM with no mods so I can pull the proprietary files that can't be built from source.
One last thing I need is for someone to open terminal emulator, type su then dmesg and copy output to a text file, that will tell me a bit more about the device and its hardware.
It won't be easy as I don't have the device but I'll give it a try.
Will do it after the weekend though 'cos I'm busy till Monday.
