[Q] Is it safe to do a full reset ?? (Stock TGY ICS) - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello dear XDA members
I am going to sell my Galaxy tab 7.7 P6800 gsm/3G with original TGY CSC updated via kies to 4.0.4 ZSLP7. The device is made in Vietnam.
the question is, IS IT SAFE to do a FULL RESET FROM SETTINGS ? (I must give the new owner a fresh system)
note that everything is stock, no root nor custom kernel, not even CWM, nothing changed in the system, all Samsung Bloatware
you may ask me why am going to sell my 7.7 ? Because i can't own two devices (not enough money) I must sell this to get a note 2 (just wanted to use a new device, I must do so otherwise the price of my 7.7 will drop a lot after a year or two)
using the 7.7 was a joy, a great device with a gorgeous screen, no question about it.

Afaik, you should be safe to wipe from settings, someone can correct me if i'm wrong. Do not wipe from recovery, from what I have read this can trigger the super brick bug.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app
A couple of extra options for safer wipe:
Go back to HC then wipe. Afaik HC recovery mmc_cap_erase flag is disabled.
Flash Locerra's CWM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542897 and wipe from there, flash back to stock through odin. I believe this version of CWM has mmc_cap_erase flag is disabled.

thanks mate
well i don't understand how a big firme like Samsung can put a deadly option withing settings!
anyway, I hope the note 2 doesn't have this creepy brick bug.
anyone can confirm the brick from settings? someone must already did it by now? (of course on the same conditions)
best regards
Sifou

The author of this thread suggests that you can corrupt the memory just by deleting large files. So just offhand, I'm going to suggest it's UNSAFE.
(Ask them to be sure.)

[Q] Wierd message after using Triangle Away 1.95

Hi
Could someone help me please?
I could not post this question in the Original Android Development forums as my post count is less than 10 hence I am asking here.
I'm an M1 User and I have 12 GB of data and I'm an IPhone 4 user hence my Sim Card is a MicroSim one and I wanted to try out the Phone Features of the Note 10.1
I had to use Triangle Away v 1.95 after one of the sim pins broke on my Note 10.1 after I took my microSim Card in its Microsim Adapter out from the Tablet.
I used it and it cleared the root flashed firmware times download to zero and official firmware said Samsung Official Firmware.
I only used the HighonAndroid Odin hack and the Clockworkmod Recovery to root my phone and backed up after I did that.
I did not flash a full custom firmware.
However it said that the device was modified under the in Tablet Settings even after after i removed SuperSU.
When it downloading mode it said System Status : Official.
I did not get my set from either Starhub/M1 or Singtel which are the three official Telcom companies in my country.
So I download the firmware files from Sam Mobile for my non telco set from here.
sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-N8000&pcode=XSP&os=1&type=3#firmware
After flashing the System Status in Downloading Mode said Custom and the in Tablet Settings Status said Device Modified.
I'm not sure if Triangle Away worked for me or not.
Did it work?
I could not follow the same instructions for Triangle Away as the Samsung Galaxy S3 or any other phone because the battery for the Note 10.1 is built in.
On a side note : I managed to send the tablet in for repair within warranty also as Sim Card Pins being broken by MicroSIMs in MicroSIM Adapters seem to be covered under warranty here.
While I can't answer your question I can tell you Q&A is the right section.
http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/118/Triangle_Away_vs_Samsung/
TA worked, but Samsung has additional checks now.
The key is that some things (such as flash counter) were persistent after a return-to-stock. The extra system checks will go away if the device is returned to stock. TA resets the persistent stuff.
Er I don't understand. I was on stock except I flashed HighonAndroid clockworkmod recovery. After I flashed back to StockRecovery then flash back the XSP stock firmware it still said System Status custom in the settings app. So how do I clear that?

I think there's a specific order in which you need to clear stuff... Might want to do some searching in the I9300 forums, that's the first device to have this new system check stuff.
From what I read in some thread, u must flash back to stock recovery. Then u can flash ur stock Rom again.

Oh well guess I'll have to wait till I get the set back from the service centre to see if it's been re-flashed to stock firmware with the device status in Settings said as Official.
Basically 16gb is too little and the move to external sd card option is not avaliable unlike S3 and S2.
I had a 32gb Samsung Class10 card from Qoo10.com.sg and since its bigger I thought it would be better to move apps for reading manga like Mango to the SD card instead cause the download is kinda big like 2-3gb worth of manga and pictures.
Other threads say, that after flashing the stock firmware, the device requires a complete wipe from stock recovery. Then also the "modified" setting in is gone.

[Q] Note 10.1 4G N8020 messed up

Hi all. Tried my first root + custom rom installation and i messed up the device..
i had the newest KIES firmware update (phone XXBMA5) and (XXBMA6) and i rooted the device with odin (3.07). That went OK.
Then i installed the CWM recovery with odin and that was OK too.
Then i downloaded the latest Omega Rom (i missread that it supports N8020) and followed the installation instructions to the point where it started installing Omega V2.0 from SDCARD and then it asked me to select device from a list that included only (N8000,N8010,N8013)..
So the situation now is that i have working odin, working CWM and backup of the EFS (img+tar) but no working recovery. i live in Finland and the device is Sonera locked i think, so the stock roms (international) do not work i guess.
KIES has a backup of my Note but i can't even get to a point where KIES discovers the device.
So basically i think i need a working ROM for my model (Note 10.1 4G N8020), or can i recover the original samsung software somehow ?
Any advices ?

Just a thought, but can't you reflash CWM or the stock recovery?
If you didn't install the rom why do you need to re-install anything. Just powering down and powering up should have left you as was....

Maybe i'm missing something but isn't CWM your custom recovery?
It doesn't sound like you've actually installed any rom yet.The Omega installer doesn't actually install anything until a few steps after the one you mentioned about the model type.
I'm with ultramag69 on this one. You should still be on a stock rom unless you already wiped your original rom.
Hi again. Problem solved, just had to do emergency thing from KIES. Like i said this was the first time trying root + custom ro install and to be honest it went to ****. Somehow i managed to delete the stock firmware so that is why the recovery gave me (no files). I did make some backup but when tried to restore it said MD5 mismatch or something. At first the KIES emergency recovery could not find the device, but after i switched from CWMcto stock recovery it worked.
So what did i learn from all this ? Nothing, because i am getting too old (tired+lazy ) to do proper investigation. So one could say my strategy is to bang my head to the wall as long as it takes to go trough. Even if i could just go around it
So basically i am now at the point where i started, with stock 4.1.2 rooted. Used the triangle away to wipe the (6) custom installs or something away, but it still says custom in the settings> information. Does this mean that OTA won't work ? Any way around it ? Because i would like to check now and then that is my version of android the newest one..
Could someone recommend a custom ROM for my Note 10.1 4G (LTE) N8020 4.1.2 because the only one i was able to find was the CyanogenMod (or something) and it basically makes the S-Pen (almost) useless. What i would like is the Omega ROM, but like stated before the installation only supported N8000, N8010 & N8013...
Added screenshot from info.
Thanks anyway
What is truly amazing is that i did not brick the device tough..
switch from cwm to stock

I was not easy, i just tried the download mode over and over again with KIES open in windows and somehow it finally did find my device and offered a emergency restore. That is it, and the device was restored to default "original state".
OMG.... one would think after nearly having bricked your device you would either A) stop messing around with it or, B) read and learn more about what you're wanting to achieve and THEN maybe trying something with the ABSOLUTE certainty that a backup to restore is available to you in case of any mishap!
Moral of story :
Don't do anything until you are absolutely sure you have read EVERYTHING about what you are going to do.
For others wanting to mess with their devices, take heed! You may not be as lucky as OP (or troller) whichever is applicable.
There comes a certain point, that when crossed one does not care what happens to the device at hand. After fighting with my n8020 for several days in a row i couldn't care less, and like said before i dont have the level of enhusiasm like i had when i was younger. Of course i know now what went wrong.. But seriously, these are just overpriced toys, so it's not a matter of life and death.

S3 brickato - S3 became a brick!

If you are italians, please, rispondete nella mia (nostra) lingua :good:
...and away all users which propose reset or data wipe! I'm a fairly experted user, please I won't spend another time to begin again from scratch.
Software details about my Samsung Galaxy S III Verizon 16 GB:
Status: Customized and rooted
ROM: Android Revolution HD - 32.0 (Android JB 4.2.2)
Kernel: Stock - 3.0.31
Apps (most importants, all ones with root privileges):
Superuser;
Avast! Mobile Security;
Cerberus;
Titanium Backup (from last data wipe I've manually customed apps and settings, without resorting to TB);
Seeder (enabled on boot with moderate service profile activated and extended I/O queue);
SetCPU (400 Mhz instead of 200 Mhz as minimum CPU frequences and no other changes);
GreenPower Premium.
My device became a brick, fortunally there isn't any hardware and logical problem: according to eMMC Check, Sudden Death doesn't exists and all eMMC are ok.
Device components shouldn't be damaged, I shouldn't be thus unlucky!
I've a lot of freezes and a slow device which often lags, principally in default applications (gallery and others).
They happen in casual occasions, most frequently when:
I using Chrome, when I type much with SwiftKey in address bar;
Start/quit apps and games lighly faster than usual;
Sometimes when I turn on locked screen (Black Screen Of Death or freezed wallpaper).
Rarely happened unexpected restarts.
To solve these problems I've used DFG app as proposed by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133401.
It has worked succesfully, for a week device freeze only every 1-2 days, when I had to wipe cache from Recovery Mode and bring back peace.
But now stability decreased newly, DFG and wipe cache are almost useless.
Help me, I've got simply a rooted device with an excellent ROM, without any bloatware, virus or whatever hindrance to stability and performance.
I've tried a lot of setting changes, removed several apps... with a slight but not enough enhancement.
Thanks in advance! :good:
Hey, are you absolutely sure you have a Verizon Galaxy SIII (d2vzw also known as SCH-i535)? Cuz Android Revolution is an i9300 rom and we do not have a known thread for that rom in the Verizon GSIII dev or Original Dev section. Did you flash this exact rom?
Maybe you didn't mean to say Verizon but version? Cause it sounds like you have an international device there if you where running that rom. If you do have a Verizon US S3 and you flashed that rom that explains why you have a brick now. And if you have an international s3 your in the wrong forum.

I'm not really sure about "S3 nature". I've imported them from France, bought via stockisti site (I reiterate, I'm not completely sure) if it's a Verizon or an international model.
Exactly, I've installed Android Revolution HD - 32.0 based on 4.2.2 firmware.
I using one since 16 June, initially I didn't have any problem even though I used Titanium Backup to restore all apps and system, from 4.1.2 stock ROM to 4.2.2 ARHD, a great restoring, only some Samsung app goes to freeze.
Now I've recently wiped data in my device and restored apps and settings manually, without using TB.

[Q] Help flashing Note 2 (E250/N7105) any custom ROM, fix SIM/IMEI issue

First of all, I'm a complete noob. I just joined the xda forum today after a year of following developments especially for custom roms and apps.
I have a pre-owned rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Android v4.1.1) which the "About Device" indicates is model n7105. I really wanted to "upgrade" its capabilities and features to a level close to Note 3 and/or KitKat goodness. So after reading a lot about how to flash custom ROMS, I tried Ditto Note 3 v5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2589715). Everything went well during the installation but after reboot it got stuck in the logo screen. After waiting for 10 minutes I flashed it AGAIN but with the same result. Finally after waiting for 20 minutes, I restored my phone to its backup. Now my phone can no longer detect my SIM card and my IMEI is null/unknown, even after factory reset. I made a big mistake! Then I remembered that that the original owner mentioned it's a converted E250 KOREAN version but I'm no longer able to contact her. This phone has been rooted and tweaked many times for over a year now, and having it serviced is no longer an option.
I definitely still want to flash DN3 (or any custom ROM compatible with E250) but I also need how to revert E250 to N7105 and fix my "Insert SIM card" problem. So where do I go from here? Any help/comments/suggestions on my specific case would be greatly appreciated! I am willing to learn whatever it takes to get this done and experiment.
Note: I didn't find clear answers to these in related forums and I'm also not yet able to post anything there. Hoping someone knowledgeable and helpful reads this.

I would begin with calming yourself down :]
There's always chance to flash proper rom so don't worry.
Pick up proper DN distribution suitable for Your device and flash again.
Remember to clean system for new rom, wipe data/factory reset and also wipe cache and dalvik cache, format system, and flash the thing again.
Remember that not always rom will boot from the first kick.. it often happens to me (freeze on first screen - not Samsung but the one with Note2 screen), it's as easy as taking the battery off the device and reconnecting it again for awhile and then power on again (sometimes it works in thrid attepmt so be patient, once it runs there should be no more further problems)
I hope You will solve Your problem.
Good luck!
Yep I totally agree with roozxx on that

[ROM] Tab 3 7.0 SM-T210/R Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Update

This is the stock US KitKat ROM for The Galaxy Tab 3 7" Tablet. Finally found it after a bunch of hassle online, and figured I'd post it here to make things easier for everyone.
When I Odin'd this ROM, it actually upgraded my tablet, and left all my items installed (not guaranteeing this will work the same for everyone else).
Afterwards, I just Odin'd TWRP to reroot using Chainfire's SuperSU (no other Superuser would work) and called it good.
Caution: if you are using a custom ROM, this may not work without reflashing stock 4.1.2 since the 4.4.2 ROM appears to be an update, rather than a full ROM.
Rooted devices and custom kernels that are otherwise stock should be fine.
The cache, and if possible dalvik-cache should be cleared before flashing. Some of those files can sometimes interfere with upgrades.
It might be necessary to pinpoint apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
If that fails, it might be necessary to factory reset the device.
The Stock 4.1.2 ROM for the T210R is available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-stock-sm-t210r-4-1-2-jellybean-odin-t2958676
The T210R...XAR file is for the 210R:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2iEgzRTFjrQTmI0ZjRBbWtOajQ&authuser=0
The ITV file is for the T210 (no R)
To download these ROMs, a torrent client is required (such as utorrent).
Anyone who wishes to contribute, please seed if you can after downloading ("Force Starting" the torrent will seed it indefinitely.)

I've seen both devices referenced together quite regularly, implying that they use the same ROM.
http://www.boeboer.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-3-7-sm-t210r-manual-guide-wifi/
And even use the same kernel from what I've read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439564
I would take standard precautions, such as having a odin image of your original software available and performing a backup of your current system (if able).
Perhaps someone else has some insight to this question?
edit: Looks like I had my information wrong. Found where I obtained the ROM from, it is for the T210R model, and was not intended for the T210.
There are custom ROMs that have been patched for use on both devices, which is where my confusion came from, but this is an official ROM.
I have gotten my hands on the T210(no R) ROM file, and have update the Links above.
I am not responsible for any failed attempts at flashing to either device.

First, thanks for this. I have the T210R. I tried using this and had the same result, it updated the tablet instead of loading a completely new version. I did however run into a problem...the tablet had many for closes and reboots to a point it was unusable and so I reverted back to my backup. Did you see this? Maybe I had a bad download?

I did not have this problem, but I didn't have much on my Tab either. (Some apps don't play well with KitKat upgrades.)
Torrents have multiple segmented hashchecks to make sure you get an uncorrupted download, but it might still be possible. I'm reasonably sure my file is OK since I've used it (can't speak for the non R file though).
Did you clear your cache, and if possible your dalvik cache? I've read that some of those files interfere with upgrades.
If you can pinpoint the apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
Other option would be to try a factory reset and see if that fixes it. (I understand not wanting to do that though.)
One more thing, if your ROM isn't stock, or stock rooted (custom kernel should be ok too), you may have to flash 4.2 before the 4.4 ROM will work on the device.
Right guys, here i go, just joined and first question!!!
i have not ever rooted a sm-t210 but it was rooted when i bought it second hand!
i have linux installed on my p.c. and was wondering if there is a way to upgrade to and official KITKAT!
as stated i am having problems because my SM-T210 wifi only! and want to update to kitkat official release!
but was hoping also that there is a way/method to root via LINX and not via windows!!
if that is not possible how do i go about it on windows!! as i can use a friends WINDOWS-P.C. if i must!
ah also my SM-T210 does not have the options to change the function of the USB-function,,,
i.e.
it used to have an option to,, use as a mass storege, media transfer or use with samsung keis,,, or some thing of the sort
but this option has dissapeared! may have been my fault!!!! as i uninstalled some system apps,
now it crashes and reboots whenever i try to turn of USB-DEBUGGING options in DEVELOPER-OPTIONS !!!!

Just to triple check, by the above quote you mean that if my tablet is currently rooted, I should still be fine to flash this update correct? [obviously it would become non-rooted once flashed and I'd have to re-root it as you mentioned you rooted after installing]
Also, how much space does this take up?
thanks

That is correct. I was rooted running the Werewolf custom OC kernel. I still had my tablet upgrade without wiping, and one other user has reported back saying the same. But I can not promise upgrade as opposed to overwrite.
The flash file once extracted, is about 1.4 GB, I don't know sizes beyond that. It does not repartition the tablet however.

Well this is awesome, system won't mount and I don't have a backup. Samsung website does NOT have the stock firmware, and attempting to get it for another country just to get this to load so I can flash a ROM leaves me with having to download at 15kbs. I am in the process of selling this to someone for their kid... And there are ZERO seeders for these files. Lovely.

For some (unknown) reason, Odin3 nor JOdin3 doesn't seem to work for flashing my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 device. For that reason I tried Heimdall-Frontend, but to make that work you need to extract the content of a stock ROM first.
Anyways, it still didn't lead to get my device into factory reset yet.
But that's another story on which I still have not yet found the answers needed to get the device successfully back into factory reset.
My guess is that the 'system.img' file, of Android 4.4.2, successfully has been loaded from Heimdall-Frontend, yet by going into reboot right away after Heimdall-Frontend releases the connected device, the download may be deleted.
I read that the cause of that may lie in the fact that Android 4.4.2 is only an update and no full ROM.
