SONY Bluetooth Stereo Problems. Help please

I have recently purchase a SONY DR-BT20NX stereo wireless headset that is SUPPOSED to work as a hands free head set too. It's not behaving and wondered the following:
Does anyone run one of these and can advise?
Are there know problems with BT Stereo headsets on the Trinity that require tweeks?
It seems to be OK when playing music but when set as a hands free unit the phone will not ring, it will only sound in the earphones. It will not respond to an INCOMMING call only an outgoing one. NONE of the advance functions work when making or taking a call so I have to use the buttons on the PDA!
When used as a stereo headset it does seem to stop start and pause music ok from the button on the headset, and even skip to the next track. But as mentioned, NO functions work from the button on the BT headset when a using the phone, let alone the advance functions the thing is supposed to offer.
This is the second unit I've tried as I returned the first one to the supplier as I thought it was faulty as it was do too many stupid things.
Thoughts chaps...?

Sorry not much help with your specific model but I can report that the Trinity works well with the SonyEricsson HBH-DS970 both for audio and to manage phone calls. All buttons work properly.
Are you sure your model supports the Handsfree BT profile? I thought all phones and phone accessories were part of the SonyEricsson joint venture portfolio and Sony would not produce phone accessories under its own brand.

I tried this in one of the stores and found that it was NOT working properly with my Trinity (WM6 Rom). It was skipping horribly. Gave up after 5mins of trying. The square design of the center piece makes it looks like it came from the 90s.
Anyway, I tried the http://www.itechdynamic.com/en/products_spec.asp?cid=2&pid=02050 I-Clip Radio and it worked out of the box (Flawlessly). Even the Cyberion Voice commander (for handsfree dialing through wireless bluetooth) works beautifully. Bought it after 10mins of trying, used it for 5 days now ... no regrets! It comes with a 3.5mm audio socket so you can pair it to your favourite Sony EX headphone or the over priced Shure headphone. Sound quality is unbelievable. Try it ...

Just wondering if MIZZO1628 eventually got Trinity working with the Sony DR-BT20NX earphones? I really like the look of these, and am willing to do some reg hacking if necessary - but not if its going to be a dead end...

I also have the Sony BT headphones, and they have always been a problem with every rom (HTC Wizard included) that I have used.
I nearly always must edit the registry to listen to music, and the phone call function only works for outgoing calls.
I should have known better than to buy something with 'Sony' on it, but there was a recommendation elsewhere in this forum.

navigation, a2dp, hands free - how to combine?

Hi there,
my next mobile phone is going to be a Topaz, but my question might apply to other devices as well.
Basically I want to feed a car radio via a2dp with music (coming from a microSD card inside the device) & navigation instructions (I prefer TomTom and Mobile Navigator, I have yet to decide which one to get in full version) and use the radio's hands free feature for phone calls.
The radio I might be getting is a Sony MEX-BT3600U (link).
My question is: how exactly do I get this scenario to work? I'm unsure whether the device has to "mute" the music and navigation instructions when calls come in or the radio uses different kinds of "channels" for a2dp and calls. Do the programs (music player and navigation) require certain functions to accomplish this?

I have a similar, but older MEX BT deck from Sony, the MEX-BT5000. I will try to explain how it has worked with all of my WinMo devices (Hermes, Kaiser, Xperia).
It will auto pair with your device with both a standard cell phone and an A2DP connection. When using non-phone audio it will come out of your car speakers when you are in Bluetooth Audio input mode. Anytime there is a call or the phone functions are activated it will override the A2DP and you can accept the call and talk or send to voicemail. While the phone is in use normal audio will NOT come through the speakers. I think this is best because you wouldn't want TomTom yelling at everyone who calls you, or in my case have them hear my blaring music. Also the phone will override CD or Radio audio also, but A2DP will only come through when it is selected on the deck.

Parrot MKi9000, or an alternative?

Ok - I've got the Desire, and I'm liking it.
I've also got Spotify, and it's excellent.
But Spotify in the car would be amazing.
So, question is, would the above kit be a useful purchase?
This particular Parrot comes in 3 flavours, the bog standrd MKi9000, but there's another two which also have a small screen accompaniement.
Question is, which should I get?
Or should I get something else entirely?
I like the idea of FM transmitters, but pretty much across the board, they are meant to perform poorly. I also don't like the idea of being restricted by having to instal some of them in the cigarette lighter - I'd rather the stero component was hard wired if possible (and easy to fit myself as I'm on a budget).
So, any advice peeps?

I have a parrot SK4000 and it's terrible.

I've got a Parrot Mki9200 and it's great. It's a Parrot device so you have to expect the occasional oddity but I just get in the car and I have bluetooth handsfree and A2DP streaming from my Desire. I'm even contemplating changing my earlier Parrot 3400GPS in another car.
Haven't tried it with Spotify but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Works fine with Google Maps Navigation, although occasionally the A2DP streaming takes a second to kick in which means you miss the very first part of the voice instruction.
Edited to add that you can plug the Desire into the USB connector which both charges it and allows you full onscreen browsing of the media on your Desire. Select songs by album, artist, playlist, folder, etc.

Thing is, do you need the small screen that comes with the 9200, if you only use it with a Desire? I mean, what exactly would you use the screen for, assuming you've already got your Desire on a dashboard mount anyway?
I'm clueless about in car bluetooth connectivity and suchlike, so any advice is great. You can get the mki9000 quite cheap if you look around, but with the screens, you add a fair bit to the cost.
So - any other advice?

I had a MKi9100 Parrot which had to be returned as it had a fault. However, i was really disppointed with the quality of the music, as it uses its own inbuilt amp, not the car stereo amp. Quality suffers as a result.
With the MKI9200, I believe that there is a way to wire the kit, so the music plays through the car stereo, but you then have to have a separate speaker for phone calls, else you won't hear calls when the stereo is off. A good source of info can be found at the Parrot forums.
The benefit of the Parrot gear is that you can integrate it with your stearing wheel controls (if fitted), although you will need the additional control module.
Given my rather unreliable experience of Parrot gear, I'm looking to ditch my present Parrot CK3000 unit in favour of the Bury cc9060 kit. Not only does this kit have A2DP (music via bluetooth) and the ability I believe to route music via the stereo (please check to confirm), but most impressively it has multipoint - the ability to connect 2 bluetooth phones at the same time. A real bonus for those of us with 2 mobiles....

The Parrot instruction manual is wrong on this. If you have a decent car stereo, you can wire a line-out from the Parrot to the Line-In from the car stereo and use the car hi-fi amp for streaming music. You still connect the speaker bypass which kicks in if you get/make a voice call. I've confirmed this with Parrot tech support.
As for the screen, if you've got (or are getting) the Desire car dock and you only listen to music from the phone, I guess you don't need the screen. However I find that I use the SD card & USB connection to listen to music as well so the screen is pretty essential. The 9200 is only around £20 more than the 9100 so it was a no brainer for me.
However I did look at the Bury devices as well. I do expect the Bury ones are slightly more reliable (although the 9200 is better than expected) but I found them lacking in some features.

I've also got a 3400 (same thing but with GPS, not the most reliable of devices!) and the best way is to delete all contacts, re-pair the phone and then send a multi-contact VCF file to the Parrot. You can create a multi-contact VCF from MS Outlook if you have that.
I've managed to get multi-number contacts (so you can do voice dialling with "Call... Alex... Home"), contact pictures and all features working correctly with the Desire. It did take some fiddling though, especially compared to the 9200 which was pretty seemless.

Just got an MKi9200 and installed in my 2008 Civic. I am loving it so far!!
I have paired my Desire which I plan to use for calls and sat-nav using the bluetooth audio feature.
I also plugged in a 32Gb USB stick which I will be using for playing music.
All this works well so far, except for a few little niggles.... I am hoping someone can help
1. When the phone sync's with the Parrot I get a message "File format not supported" which appears, disappears and appears again during the sync. Its possibly contact related (either pictures or the contact themselves) - can anyone advise??
2. When the sat nav (Copilot) gives directions, the sound comes out of the Desire AND the cars speakers. This is fine but the phone sounds up first, then after a 1/2 second delay the same instruction comes through the cars speakers. Any ideas on how to get them to play at the same time or mute the phones instruction but still hear the car speakers?
Any help gratefully received!

I use the venturi mini on mine and it works flawlessly the only problem is it does plug into the lighter socket, I did end up buying a 3 way extension plug for the socket though off ebay so it is now mounted elsewhere and i still have 2 spare lighter sockets and a usb charging port on it as well as on the bluetooth car kit.
the kit was about £20 off of ebay of £50 in the shops, phonebook dl all ok even transmits it on the head unit if it has RDS on it.

I have the exact same model, had the exact same problems but cured it.
I wrote a post about my experiences http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668042 , but I think the upshot is actually to break all the "links" in your contacts.
My LS3200 works flawlessly now.

advice please
I'd like to get Bluetooth handsfree set up with my Desire in my Toyota Rav4 (2005). Am looking at the following:
1. Brodit active cradle (hardwired to car, avoiding cigarette charger)
2. Parrot BT kit
So, my questions are: which Parrot kit am I best getting (dont want to spend a fortune, but would be nice to stream music from Desire through stereo speakers), & can anyone recommend a company to do the installation professionally in London? (as much as I'd love to do it all myself, probably not a good idea to open up the dashboard etc?)

Its a no brainer to go wth the MKi series, thebosh, but it depends if you want clutter on your dash or keep it clean and minimalistic.
But following the parrot forums loosely, its seems that more and more people are having difficulties with the 9100 and 9200 than the 9000 due to the added screens and with displaying what they wantr and how they want it, especially with software updates, changes to phonebook layouts and intergrations with social feeds etc.
For me, it had to be the 9000 with just the remote, which I mounted on a spring clip and then to a face vent.
I also got a brodit active charger (the one with the hardwired charging lead) for sat nav purposes, so I saw no need for an extra bluetooth screen you have to mount somewhere.
I too am planning to cut the cigar charger plug off and hardwire it, just need to get around to it.
The sound quality from the desire to the parrot 9000/9100/9200 BT is exceptional, and the music bass/treble is well balanced.

As for installation, register on the parrot forums and ask there.
You'll be surprised how many installers are registered for troubleshooting and can give you some sort of price/advice on whos doing it in that area.
I put mine into my 206, and its no sweat.

Had my first quote this week for professional installation - £244 for the lot. No idea if that's any good or not!
Will do as you suggest re. Parrot forum, as it would be awesome if I could do it all myself!
(For info, the quote came from avrmobiles.co.uk, & guy I spoke to warned me to rather go for the Bury 'Music' as he had experienced issues with Android & Parrot devices...)

There are alot of bugs when it comes to the screened versions of the Mki series, hence my recommendation of the 9000.
I have no such problems with any sort of delay in sat nav commands, music quality or phone sync from my desire.
Only niggle I get is blipping when im canning the music at full chat from my desire on fuller vocal songs,
but using the Mix-zing app, and turning up the buffer size does help.

This is exactly the kind of solution I am looking for! I just got my MKI9000 installed and unfortunately the installer routed all 4 speaker output through the cutoff and not through the line-in.
I have a Skoda (part of the VAG family) and I am now trying to cross information so I can come back to the installer and get him to fix the installation (he will learn a thing or two from the infinite internet wisdom )
Any more information you can share on this option?

[Q] An app to fake a call to activate BT in my car (and listen to music)

Hi everyone,
My car has a bluetooth chip inside, but it only works when someone calls me or when I call someone. The BT chip of my car is recognized by my phone as an "headphone device" or something like that.
So I would like to find an app which fakes that the phone is receiving a call or that I'm calling someone so that I can listen to my music using BT.
Obviously, all that app such as call faker don't do the trick because they are just a sort of skin which is absolutely not faking a call the way I mean it.
Do you know that kind of app or any method to do so ?

i know what you mean, but there is no way that could happen sorry . (no app exist to date as far as i know)
you need what is called a a2dp bluetooth car set. that will let you stream music. (i have one)
other than that i'm afraid your out of luck.
but you could try buying the IO Bluetooth car kit (the one i have)
works well!

Anyway, I'm going to take a look a bit more about A2DP, but I guess that I will not have enough motivation to buy one (and continue listening to music with my ooooold CD Player \o/ ).

Perhaps this would be possible if someone writes an app which uses the "phone line" not sure how it is called and how I should describe it in english.
But if you make an app which has a sound output you can tell it the type like navigation, music, call...
I am not sure if that does it, but someone could try?
Perhaps I could write a small app which plays one song to the call channel fit test purposes?
I have no headset or anything similar.

Tasker to the rescue! Just tried the following profile in Tasker, and it worked how you want:
New task: Prank
Call my home number (+ auto dial)
Wait 5 seconds
End call
I then create a tasker widget, and point it to this profile. Now when ever I press this widget, it dials my home number for 5 seconds then hangs up.
Tasker ain't free, or easy to get used to, but it's incredibly powerful. I think it has a trial period. Check it out.

Thanks for answer wnp, but I don't really understand in which way it's supposed to help me, because Tasker is really calling someone and really ending the call. Anyway, I tried it and it didn't worked because when Tasker is launching the call, the BT headphone of the car activates (ok), it rings, and end the call (stopping BT headphone in the car) 5 seconds later. It works exactly as if I had really done it with my hand. Or maybe I didn't understood well what you explained ?

Try AutomateIt or Llama. AI has a bluetooth trigger option, eg start an app (music) and it will trigger bluetooth and you can set bluetooth to default connect to a specific source.

Ok I downloaded automateit but how would I set this up with my car stereo Bluetooth? As the same with the OP in the 1st post, I don't have a streaming option, but I can make calls, and it is only while i'm on a call i'm able to play and hear other audio sources such as Pandora, mp3, etc on my phone. How can I fake a call, so that I trigger the Bluetooth to activate with this app?

You can use an app called BTmono in the market for this. It can stream all audio from your device to your car reciever. But the streaming is only in mono because your car's bluetooth works like a mono headset.

Ok I appreciate the help offered but the suggestions is not suitable for the problem. The problem that we're having is that the car audio headset don't have an option to stream audio from a Bluetooth device, but will allow calls thru Bluetooth.....if I have a connected call from my phone to my car audio headset, only then is when I can stream other audio formats from my phone, but once the call is disconnected, then I went be able to. So once again, are there any apps that can fake a call to initiate the Bluetooth as an incoming call so that I can stream audio from my phone??

I also have a Jabra headset and can only stream audio when there is a call. It should be working as same. As I said, BTmono can stream all audio on the connected bluetooth device. Have you tried it first?

Yes I did try btmono, but I didn't see anything within the app that would allow to fake a call. Unless i'm overlooking. Maybe you can instruct how?

Sip applications such as sipdroid do change phone state. and SIPDROID is a SOFTWARE-ONLY SOLUTION. we just need a software that would make a dummy call...
I have an app called Call Reminder and when it triggers I know the phone is actually on a call state
I'v personally tried btmono and the other one and both failed for me. [not desire though].

On my windows Mobile phone for this i use an app that routes all audio output to Bluetooth
So I can hear music on my headset
The app is bt audio
Don't know if there is an equal app for Android

BTMono or Fake call
I've been digging the internet for a similar solution and stumbled upon a few pages.
BTmono or any of the myriad of other applications should work from what i read. It simply routes the music audio stream to headset/headphone audio (the one that's used for a call) which is compatible with a mono-bluetooth headset or in your case the non-A2DP car bluetooth. This is essentially what you suggested, by placing a fake call.

The other more interesting option (i like to avoid having an app if the task can be done simply otherwise) is to call the 2 second pause function from the dialer. There's a thread about this over at this other forum. It describes the 2 second pause as a double star **. However i figured in my Nexus 4 the 2 second pause is simply a comma (,).

I haven't tried either as I left my mono-bluetooth at work today. Will try both out tomorrow and post my results. Both seem like plausible solutions.

Btmono seems the only one to have worked.

Steam music over Bluetooth for phone only setups
I've solved this problem but you need two phones. Connect a phone to Bluetooth in your car, use another phone to call you, answer the call and on the other phone press hold. You can now stream music on any of the apps on the Bluetooth phone until you hang up the call. I found this out when someone left me on hold for a period of time. Using Tidal high fidelity the sound is amazing in my 2006 Range Rover

[Q] Pairing Tablet as Bluetooth Receiver?

This topic is pasted all over the net and it doesn't seem to be getting much attention, however I think it should be brought to a better light.
The idea is simple: Enable your Android Phone or Tablet to become a bluetooth reciever(to replace a headset or bluetooth speakers) and broadcast audio to the device and broadcast microphone from the device.
This could be used in several different applications:
1. Using an Android Tablet as a Car Stereo Interface
(Connect Phone to Tablet Via Bluetooth and use it as a hands free speakerphone, or aux out to your stereo)
2. Multiple Android Phones
(Have a business and personal phone? Answer all your calls from one.)
3. Phone or Tablet as Bluetooth Speaker/Mic
(Skype, PS3, Xbox 360, TV, Google Voice)
I would use several of these options on a daily basis, and would most definitely pay good money for an app like this.
So my questions are:
1. Is this possible?
2. If it is, how hard would it be?
3. If it isn't that hard, why hasn't someone done it yet!?

Just wanted to bump this because we need to put our heads together here and get this done. I need this capability for number 1 on your list of potential uses. I also would pay good money for an app that enabled this. Phones and tablet are rooted and ready to modify whatever is needed. Ii've bumped a couple other threads today as well.

I have been looking for this for a while. I use an old LG Eve in my car and my Captivate's Wifi connection for GPS but I would love to have it work for calls and music too.

Hi there,
just wanted to leave an incentive kind of post to say that I've also been looking for exactly the same thing.
My hunting on Google play just stopped after finding this post on XDA.
It's a kind of confirmation that there isn't a solution yet.
Since our rooted androids are more than capable of acting as a Bluetooth receiver, whether they may be based on new or older hardware, this seams like a very logical step in their lifecycle instead of getting forgotten in a drawer full of old and unused electronic waste.
Some doubts:
is a2dp required for this?
Is a2dp hardware related or simply a software feature?
Personally, I could live with a simple one way communication from a phone with mobile network (sender ) to the receiver. The used mic could still be the one on the sender side.
Wouldn't even need to have the receiver in a visible place as I would just connect a stereo cable from its headset output to an aux input on a hifi or a car stereo to hear music or acting as a hands-free system.
Hope this gets some real attention.

I can't beleive there is STILL no progress on this. Maybe I'll try asking a dev that has made similar apps the feasibility of this. There are so many practical uses for this that I cannot beleive no one has capitalized on it.

This would be a killer app if done right. Who here doesn't have an old phone laying around gathering dust? This could start off small; simply enabling the phone/tablet to be essentially a Bluetooth speaker, but then gain features and an interface using A2DP, which would evolve it into a killer way to make any car (with at least a tape deck) able to have full Bluetooth integration and control. I really hope someone can do this!

yeah so a spare bluetooth phone that connects between a keyboard and PC. Acting like a BT dongle. No way I'm spending 10 bucks for that. if an app...maybe a buck but would prefer free.

May be this is not the right way to do.

I know this is a crazy old subject but others have commented so I don't feel so bad.
I want to make my own android system for my car. I have everything I need for it (hardware/software-wise) except for this one thing.
A few years back there used to be an app called Tablet Talk, it's not exactly what we want but I'm still willing to settle for something like that. The way it works is phone->tablet->handsfree Bluetooth speaker. You could make and receive calls (including seeing the contact names/phone numbers on the tablet) from the tablet itself, then the audio/microphone goes to the handsfree device. Another added feature was when a call is happening the app stops all audio coming from the tablet until the call is done.
Like I said before, it's not perfect but at this point, I don't ever see it happening any other way. I found the app a few days ago, it doesn't exist on the app store anymore, unfortunately, I could get it to run. It just kept crashing.
If anyone knows of something then please let us know.

Years later, found just this thread: I want to do similar thing: Use a private phone (for my sake rooted with custom fw) as a hands-free bt device with an unrooted business phone (non-rooted and secure managed with company tool). I also don't want call forwarding or similar. Just do and answer calls, use phone book and call list via bluetooth like my car radio do for years.
Is there still no solution?
