Notice he said "works on LAN" both of the things you specified REQUIRE WAN.

Make sure to turn wifi performace

Hi i just notice that on my. Mytouch 4g when u go to settings then wireless network then turn wifi on and u go to the other setting to select which network u want. When u get there click on ur menu button then hit advance then make sure wifi performance is checked on. The phone stock does not havr it checked on. Thought this would help if u use wifi. I just noticed it right now lol

Nice, I would have never known.

Does anyone know exactly what this does after enabling?
It probably enables "mimo" or "afterburner". Serious, look them up.
If you don't need it, then you may be able to conserve power.
yeah i just noticed this yesterday when i was on wifi at my house. but it will give u the best performance using wifi. but i saw some videos going against the iphone 4 and evo 4g and they always use wifi so i left a comment letting them know to make sure that is turned on so it would be a fair match up even though the mytouch 4g beat the iphone 4 and evo at pretty much everything lol.
True mimo? No way? Do we have true aggressive AP bonding aswell?
I would **** my self

I don't know if that's what it is. Mimo is all I can think of that it might enable.
Like in a school or corporate setting with multiple ap for the same network... laptops will seamlessly transition to the strongest ap... I know my g1 did not, never tried with n1 or this mt4g

Totally did not know that. Probably will fix my wifi dropping in and out. Nice find, I never would have thought!
To bad that's a sense feature only.

Skype Video calling working on Thunderbolt

Hey everyone,
I just saw in a few places that skype video chatting is working on the Thunderbolt
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/11/skype-with-video-calling-leaks-for-htc-thunderbolt-celebrations/
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/11/download-skype-with-video-on-android/ ^^^^^^ Has download link
It IS NOT working on our devices, but if anyone wants to give it a try or try to make it work on our devices that would be great
Could be easy as changing the ro.product.model or whatever to HTC thunderbolt

not looking that easy. I just changed the build.prop and tried to install. rebooting now to see if that helps. I might try to force feed it to the /data/app and see if that helps.
edit = didn't work with edited build prop.
Yea... I spent about an hour trying. Looks like its dependent on quite a few other files.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using XDA App
When I did an adb install it failed because of missing dependent libraries, I haven't done a logcat yet though. Maybe after work tonight.
Will this work on RoyalThunder?

doubt full, it has something to do with either a file set or a chip set that is native to the HTC Thunderbolt and approved devices. If force feeding it via ADB and changing the build.prop doesn't work then it's something native to big red.

FWIW - I grabbed the APK from here: http://www.techpetals.com/skype-2-o...ndroid-devices-skype_2_0_0_45-signed.apk-3645
It worked with a wifi connection and front camera. Nothing else was tested.

Skype now allows video calling

Desire S owners get it in the market now.
Wow! I just updated.. works great!
Yeah! Works fantastic! But I think the sound is a bit weaker comparing to the old Skype. Anybody noticed that?

1) New version crashes at restart (process skype.raider)
2) How to turn off Skype ? - I need it to set it only working when WIFI is active.
Finally... Now desire S is a real iphone 4 killer. Just tested new skype (24 min. of video call to other country using wifi) and this thing works sweet. No crashes, other party video frozen just once for about three seconds. JOY.
Great about time tbh!

no crash here, works fine.
to quit go back to the main skype screen, then press menu and you have the option
Tried it extensively today, works fine, apparently the image at the receiving end is lovely and sharp
It worked really well for me too.
Video calls no longer working since the last update. The options are greyed out in settings. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
Actually, the desire s could already do video calls before most devices! Just the new update unlocked the functionality for the thee devices

How can i make video calls

is ther ny way to make 3g video call on my desire s????
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Specially here in Europe where Gtalk videocalls are not supported.
Ja, I have the same question.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Try this....
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.fring
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
What's the difference between this and Skype? I've made alot of videocalls on Skype and at least I can call friends on PC. What's the benefit of having Fringe installed? It's something like Whatsapp but for video calls as I see.
I understood that OP wants to make a 3G Video call...not a video call through whatever data connection it's active on the phone(including 3G). From my understanding that is a video call service that's depending on the operator. Vodafone is offering that in RO, I belive it's available for other countries/operators as well. And that means you can video call someone by his phone number
The service is described better HERE
Exactly rapier......
I meant the video calls through mobile network..... Not through internet....... Evn many java phones does this...... Y cant our much much advanced smart phones do this....??
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
I find gtalk smooth.
Think you can install gtalk with videocalls for desire s if you're rooted
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Other option is if you both have the viber app
Plus Skype and fring as others have mentioned

I am in the same situation... I want to use this service too, but I started to think that is impossible with android phone. I had three phones with Android so far, but none of them have this option.....
As I saw, phones with 3G video call have a dedicated buton for this. This is not the case with our Android phones.
I called my operator now (Vodafone) and I got the confirmation. Android phones are not compatible with this service. Only phones that have a dedicated video call buton and are listed on the operator's compatibility list can use this service
Sent from nowhere, over the air...
Can some1 develop sumthing like this?????

3G native calling is not supported by Android. Only Samsung and LG android phones support it.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
I was searching for this some time too. Unfortunately only apps like Skype or Fring are making this possible on my Desire S, but the client has to be installed on the other person phone too and this is a bit limiting. This is my only dissapointment of Android so far but I am finding it strange to have this service natively supported on my 2008' Nokia but not on my 2011' smartphone.
I truly hope that someday someone will suddenly share a nice way do make videocalls through the mobile network with Desire S
Tango is a very good video call app

olyloh6696, you just opened this thread. Could it be exactly what the OP here wanted? I just recall, when I was using Edymion ROM, that I had that video camera buton but never tried to use it. It could be the equivalent of the hardware "video call" buton on some phones for making 3G calls. Someone with sense rom could eventually try it

I have it on Virtuous too. But how can we add recipients there?
You shouldn't add recipients...sorry cause I don't have the ROM installed to try, but I suppose that button works identical with the normal "call" button, just that it is a video call instead. The person you are calling should support the video calling feature and have the service active from the operator in order for it to work. The way it should be used is by selecting a person from your contacts, then call using that video buton instead of the normal call button
Ah thanks! That clears it up! Cheers

i don't think that's what i'm looking for, though :x
that app manages/shows the phone-AP connection but what i want is an app that shows (not necessary to manage) the connections linked up from others phones to mine via my phone's Hotspot.
And now it seems that the s3 has this integrated into its tethering hotspot menu...
