I am on CleanROM 4.0 with no adds or mods and I have tried a good number of other TW jellybean ROMs. What I've noticed with all of them is that when I open the stock email with my exchange account synced, the screen dims down a lot. I am curious to see if anybody else has this problem or a solution. Thanks.
Is there a separate brightness setting within the app like there is for the stock browser?

I don't think so. I think I tried exploring for one in the settings and counldn't find one. But I shall check again.
Do you have power saver turned on?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent Purple Tapatalk 2
Its a setting to save power iirc, forget where the specific option is though.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
In power saver mode there are two settings for display adjustments. Under display settings there is a setting for auto adjust screen tone. One of those three settings being on probably the issue, it was for me when stuff like this would happen.

The screen timeout modes only let you set various timeouts... but I'd like to have an easy way to make the screen stay always-on for when I'm in the car. It works all right for GPS apps because they force it, but google music still turns off

there are other ways to do it, but I use the app "My Settings Pro" to set the screen timeout to never, works perfectly.
Does it give you a way to do it as a quick toggle? Like I said, I don't want this always... just when I'm in the car.. and even so... something automated would be nice.

I made a dock shortcut to open the app with one click.
The app gives a screen with a bunch of toggles for settings: ringer mode>screen brightness>lock screen on/off>WiFi on/off>GPS on/off>Bluetooth on/off>AutoSync on/off>auto rotate on/off>screen timeout>Airplane Mode on/off>network mode etc.etc.etc.
I have used it in my last 4 phones, it is one of the first apps I always install after a ROM flash.
Another way would be to use widgetsoid and a screen timeout toggle to accomplish this. You can make it toggle pretty much any settings you want.

Yes, I have done it that way also.
WidgetSoid is a handy app also.

That option doesn't seem to work at times (that's why I didn't mention it)
Mine will still go out with that option selected at times.
That screen awake option seems to work for me.

Never had a problem with this option. If I'm plugged in the the screen stays on.
just curious but isnt that just asking for a burn in?
Hi all!! This is my first time posting on xda. I am using cm10 on my onex and have noticed that with the new rom there is no settings tab that pops up when in an app. This would happen in my stock rom and now on certain apps I have no way of changing the settings. Does anyone know what the problem is? Or am I just a noob lolz?
Been a bit since cm for myself but I think in settings, display, an set menu/recent app setting.
May just need to adjust either long press or short press.

Thanks that helped, but actually the option for enabling the action bar for the apps was in settings-system-hardware keys. But idk why I didn't look there lol oh well, It works now!

OK so my wife just picked up the maxx HD yesterday and is adamant on using handcent. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the LED to blink. I set the LED up in the handcent app settings, I also have light flow installed and set the SMS/MMS apps to blink. Set handcent as the default messaging app in the handcent settings. Nothing is working fit me.
I have the pro version of lightflow but didn't see hand cent on the list of supported apps so I don't know if I want to mess with installing my account so she can use the pro app.
Just wondering if anyone was able to do this? She is on 4.1.1.
Also, can I set the lock screen shortcuts on this phone? Or at least get handcent to open when choosing the text messaging lockscreen shortcut?
Sorry, I am a Gnex owner so this moto interface is a little different. I am so jealous of the battery life though

Light Flow may be giving you the issue.
Try removing it.
Thanks I will be giving this a try tonight and will report back

Hey everybody.
I know there are 3rd party Active Displays around, but I was wonder if anyone with the know-how would be interested in trying to change the stock Active Display on the Moto X?
I think its great apart from the useless *lock* icon right below the clock if no notifications are present.
It'd be great if this could show the battery level instead of the lock.
I know GravityBox has a cool way of displaying it on the lock screen, but that doesn't apply to Active Display of course.
I would like for the useless lock icon to just not come on when there are no notifications. I just got the phone yesterday so give me one day to just test it with the native active notification app and then I'll test it out tomorrow. I'll start with the app AcDisplay then the next day goto Dynamic notifications.

I don't think the lock is useless. It saves you from having to hit the power button. I've had physical buttons wear out on me, so this is far from useless for me.

Very true! But I wouldn't mind just pressing the lock button. Any who, I shut off Active Display half way through the day and my battery life as been no different with it off.

hi, i've had my moto-x about a month and this is one of the first things i tried to do, but i don't have much knowledge with editing apks. i was able to decompile the active display app and i found the layout for the main screen in res/layout/breathing.xml. there is actually already a battery indicator coded into the app but it only shows up when your power is low. i tried moving this to where the lock is to see what it did, but it just crashed the app.
actually what i would like to do is have the date displayed below the time and just have the lock removed unless there is a notification. i've unlocked it a bunch of times on accident while holding it in my hand.
//
by the way. the numerals for the time are actually images and not text, such as is used by beautiful widgets. so they're totally editable which is nice. the whole app is essentially a widget.

how did you decompile it? when i tried (after grabbing the apk from my titanium backup) the only layout file i got was aod_tutorial.xml - i'm looking into learning how about xposed and this is one of ideas to try.
i used apktool. the app is aon.apk in /system/priv-app

Yeah, the lock is the whole point for me. Saving hitting the lock button.
Still I would kill to have the date and battery on active notification.

I just built this app in tasked, give it a try. It isn't exactly what you are looking for but it is a good alternative.

It is an app that you can configure to shoot notifications of your battery percentage level. Notifications that Active Notifications picks up on. That like is outdated. I have a thread here in the Theme and App forums that is kept up to date. When I am actually at my computer and not on my tablet, I can take some screenshots of the app and upload them to my thread.
So I've searched for this issue with no results. This morning right in front of my eyes my settings icon (the gear) disappeared. So now I have no way that I know of to set volume or screen brightness or anything else that is accessible from the settings app. I'm pretty sure that I'm on current software, but since that information is accessed through the settings app as well, I can't say that for sure. I've tried the basics. Multiple reboots and I've tried to reset through recovery, but I'm not seeing the option in the list. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

There is a widget with settings, and there is the app list. Did it disappear from both?

Yup. From both. The widget is where I watched it disappear from. And it was no longer in the app list. Neither on my Gear nor my phone. Also if you swipe down from the top of the main Gear screen you also get some settings options. Volume and brightness being two. The icons were still there, but tapping those no longer took me to the settings.
