[Q] Intalling ubuntu with Net-install, waiting for connection - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
I have a nice little sbkv2 tf101, and I wish to install a clean Ubuntu on it in dualboot.
So I followed the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852702 and I tried to do it, it seemed quite simple.
I used the Olife wheelie updater to send the ubuntu.img found in the last thread (and renamed into ubuntu.img) and some packages for android.
Everything was send successfully.
I did the setup thing and configure the wpa_supplicant.conf (and removed other config):
Code:
network = {
[INDENT]ssid="myconnectblabla"
scan_ssid=1
proto=RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="mypasswordyouwontseehere"[/INDENT]
}
I didn't change much...
My router use the WPA-TKIP protection (I dont have more information about)
I then rebooted and I found the message:
wait for connection
60 sec ..blabla
and falling back to the commandline entries.
My question is : do we have to add some special driver update? I can't see why it is not working...
I also tried:
change in my router: password, WEP, WPA-TKIP+AEP, and some other configuration.
different configuration of wpa_supplicant.conf using howtos
change the kernel with Jhinta's one (I had some kernel panic...)
I assume I'm quite a newbie but I can't find anything extremely clear anywhere about it...
Somebody have any idea how to successfully connect it to my network?

[Q] Tiamat Manta Ray and OpenVPN

Having installed Tiamat 2.0.1 Manta Ray, I would like to be able to access OpenVPN. The list of Tiamat features indicates OpenVPN support, but I haven't found how this can be done.
Could someone help with this?
Thank you
Gordon
I never received any replies to my initial post regarding using OpenVPN, so I'd like to try again. If Manta Ray (no, I am not using Hammerhead yet) has built in support for OpenVPN, what do I need to do? Is it just a matter of creating and installing conf and certificate files. If so, where should they be placed?
Anyone had any experience of this?
Thank you
Gordon1M
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972550 tutorial work great for me, but I didn’t need to put the tun.ko in place, it was already there in the last taimat kernel.
Thanks for the reply. I saw the tutorial, but it seemed a bit old, given that Manta Ray has OpenVPN included in the ROM. However, maybe I should look at it again to see if I can adapt it. One downside of the tutorial seemed to be that one has to set things up each time OpenVPN is used.
Anyway, it's encouraging that OpenVPN is working well for you.
I have tried to follow the tutorial at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972550, but I can't get it to work. My Xoom is rooted. The steps I have taken are as follows:
Install Busybox ... Manta Ray comes with Busybox installed in /system/xbin/busybox, so I have skipped this step.
Install Openvpn Installer ... done.
Run Openvpn Installer ... In Manta Ray, the file openvpn is already installed in /system/xbin. There is also a file openvpn-up. I don't know what this file is for. Given that openvpn is already installed, I moved the original to another location, so that the Openvpn Installer could do its work, without any potential clash with an existing copy of openvpn. I then ran Openvpn Installer and, as instructed, specified /system/xbin as the installation location. The installer also asked me for the location of ifconfig and route, offering /system/xbin/bb, which I selected. I then let the installer continue, but there was no indication of any failure (the tutorial says it will fail but that it would leave "the bit we need on the sdcard"). I can't see that anything has been left on sdcard. Furthermore there is no /mnt/sdcard/openvpn directory (was this what should have been left?).
Regardless of the above, I continued with the tutorial and opened a terminal shell.
su worked fine.
I made the /system/xbin/bb directory without a problem.
I created the two symbolic links for busybox
I then tried to: cp /mnt/sdcard/openvpn /system/xbin/. Of course, this failed, as the source directory, /mnt/sdcard/openvpn did not exist.
So, where do I go from here? It seems that the Openvpn Installer should be doing something that it isn't. Should it be creating the /mnt/sdcard/openvpn directory and putting something in it? If so, this is not happening.
Any help much appreciated.
Thank you
Gordon
In the end, the solution was straightforward:
Install BusyBox and provide a link for ifconfig and route in a newly created directory, /mnt/system/bb.
For Manta Ray, openvpn was already there in /system/xbin (already set to chmod 555), so it wasn't necessary to install it.
tun.ko was also available in Manta Ray in /system/lib/modules, so I just copied it to a newly created directory /mnt/sdcard/openvpn.
Also, I placed (via a USB stick) the openvpn configuration files and certificates, client.ovpn, client2.key, client2.crt and ca.crt in the /mnt/sdcard/openvpn directory.
My existing Windows version of client.ovpn needed to be edited (on a PC) to specify the key and crt names that I had chosen (client2.key and client2.crt).
I saved client.ovpn in Linux file format (using LF for end-of-lines). Whether this was really necessary. I am not sure.
The last step was to use the OpenVPN Settings app from the Market to specify the paths for the location of openvpn and its configuration/certificate files.
From a remote location, I connected through the openvpn tunnel (having turned it on with VPN Settings) to my openvpn server and was able to see my home LAN, check IMAP4 e-mail on my home mail server (using LAN IP addresses) and use a VNC client.
So, this has worked all very satisfactorily in the end, despite my initial teething problems. Now that I have done it, it all seems very simple!!

[Q] How to change Wi-Fi MAC address on SGS?

Hello everybody,
I am right now on latest Juwe ROM (5.3, Semaphore 1.5.0) and I am trying to change my wifi MAC address somehow. Is there any way how to do this please?
I already searched for some ways how to do this, but was not succesful...
For example here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917684
But I can not find nvram.txt file on my SGS, just found nvram_mfg.txt and nvram_net.txt (and in different location then described in mentioned thread).
Also found some other tutorials, but it uses cmd line and it was for completely different device...
Is there any way how to do this on my SGS please?

[Q] USB WWAN - How To On Wifi Xoom?

Hello, I Know there are correct wifi usb dongles drivers in Tiamat Kernels, i have tried everything possible to get the Mobile Settings option in the Wireless setting of android with no luck, Can anybody point me to the correct procedures on how to do it? btw i have tried the methods of doing that on Acer and Asus and it didn't work, i had to flash new kernels to boot again in some cases. Thanks
Why those drivers are present but nobody want to write dialer script and instruction?
Launchpad kernel for Xoom!
Alright, Forget about Tiamat kernel, i have Team Tiamat Moray Rom on my Wifi only Xoom with the launchpad kernel from this post :
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/lau...nel-launchpad-1-2-2-new-6-11-11-3-1-only.html
you will find in the addons (WWAN USB Addon) which is used on the launchpad to show the Mobile Menu and enable tethering as the kernel should have everything required, so why when i use it on the Xoom it doesn't work? BTW i have also disabled the Zero-CD option on the USB stick to make sure it reads as a modem when connected to usb port, i made sure that my 3g stick is compatible with the operation.
Its really interesting when i see 153 views and only one reply
You can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118639
And I will try with CDMA modem I found one non-english article.
But just yesterday I got trouble with OTG connections, all devices are with error:
usb 2-1: new low speed USB device using tegra-ehci and address 6
usb 2-1: device not accepting address 6, error -71
hub 2-1: unable to enumerate device on port 1
It was working last night. Wtf? Do you know how to fix this? I tried to restart tablet with no luck, otg cable not working anymore.
Update 1: Nevermind, cable was broken. Fixed.
Update 2: I tried that method on link I gave you - zore result, reflashed.
P.S: Just tried your launchpad kernel - too bad that 3.1 only. I'm using Rogue now. By the way usb_wwan can be installed everywhere.
I found also this universal installer for Huawei modems attached below.
Dunno how to "dance" with this. After installing just nothing happend or I doing wrong.
thanks for you effort, OTG cables are horrible, most of the time when you get failures its caused by cables or adapters anyway,
i downloaded the attached archive and pushed all modules to my Xoom with MORAY Rom and Odachi Kernel, rebooted and nothing happened too no Mobile Settings menu, will keep trying and keep you posted
Actually I'm not sure if there should appear some menu. After this you have to see in dmesg you modem to be recognized like GSM converter but I don't. So it looks like option.ko isn't loaded. Maybe this file has to be in defferent place instead of /system/lib on Xoom? I also tried to put it in /system/lib/modules/ , also nothing happend after.
Maybe it works on older versions of ROMs? I'm using 3.2.2 stock rooted with rogue kernel + usb_wwan
Maybe, i have tried it with many roms, even the 3.1 but no luck, i think Team Tiamat would be the right ppl who would clarify everything to us, i have tried setting the kernel to launch all the modules on boot but nothing happened,we need somebody experienced in those things to help us out
Hmm... as you see there is nobody who want to help with this. Because they have 3G models or expencive portable hotspots and nobody need this.
Anyway. Did you try to put option.ko and usb_wwan.ko in system/library/modules folder and right after that set up "modules on boot"? Restart tablet, connect modem and see in dmesg. I don't have this option in my rom, so try to do that.
:s
I've tried placing the modules and loading them on boot, but it didn't work too, its not about money, actually i have 3G portable wifi router and my other android devices have the built-in wifi hotspot ,but its about doing the thing...its about the concept, why it's not working while we have everything in place, thats the weird thing, i think we will have to wait until somebody feels sorry for us then decide to help us! :s
Problem definitely in /system/build.prop it should be edited somehow, according to manual for A500 tablet.

hi, where to put this module pack? i mean how to install?
How to connect manually using Huawei 3G dongle:
You need:
- rooted xoom with Tiamat kernel (or any other which has usb_wwan.ko and option.ko attached)
- 3g dongle
1. Backup files from /etc/ppp in case when this solution don't work
2. Download attached zip and extract to /etc/ppp
3. edit /etc/ppp/gprs-connect-chat in line
Code:
'' AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet"
replace 'internet' with APN name for your network
4. Now run terminal (Terminal Emulator) and type
Code:
su
stop ril-daemon
insmod /system/lib/modules/usb_wwan.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/option.ko
pppd call gprs
Now you should have working connection (Xoom doesn't show this, but if you run browser it should work).
For me it works on Verizon Xoom with Huawei e1750, but i'm living in area where only edge is avaliable, so this is very slow connection - i need to check connection speed in other location this weekend.
For Xoom Wifi owners: this should also work for you, but with small change - after inserting modules you should check on dmesg which port(s) is using your dongle and change port number in first line of /etc/ppp/peers/gprs . It's probably /dev/ttyUSB0 but you must check.

Ask google for linux support for this wimax modem. If it works on linux it also should work in android. And most of linux tutorials are saying which driver is needed.
I also have different modem need to use, because gprs is slow and expencive.
I have Cmotech U300 (Dual mode - WiMax + CDMA Rev.A) branded for Sprint. Have no idea where to get a driver for xoom.
Looks like my modem is working under Linux, http://jebus.nu/tech-corner/sprint-u300 Dut generally I have no idea how to make it for Xoom.
My Huawei is recognized well. I set APN name, but what about APN username and password. Where are setted?
Are there any updated ppp files for the xoom on jelly bean as it does not seem to work with my one....... Also try something called "ppp widget" which seems to be easier to do but still its not worked for me on my xoom...... HELP

[Q] Login on lilstevie's Ubuntu 11.10 not possible, no superuser rights

Hey guys,
I searched the forum and did not really find an answer, it is probably even a Linux question, but even in the Linux forums i havent found a fix yet;
I installed lilstevies OLife Premium Dualboot on my TF101, everything went well. At the Login screen I can only log on with the "Guest Session" option though, since I never created an user during the installation.
Since I cant do sudo operations with the guest user ("sudo: unable to change sudoers gid: Operation not permitted") I cannot use Ubuntu, since i don't have the root password (because Ubuntu has none?). I already tried a lot of "standard" username/password combinations. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you all in advance!

during the install when you set up you
Someone with a bit more experience with ubuntu might be able to help more but without root permissions/ access to the recovery console, i dont think your able to create an admin user(might be an exploit or something but i would doubt it). might have to bite the bullet and reinstall(as a last resort)
I'm 99% sure there's no single user mode but there are dirty ways of doing it though... You can try to mount the ubuntu partition in android (mmcblk0p8 if I remember correctly), and manually edit the passwd/shadow (make sure to back up first). I'm not that familiar with ubuntu's way of handling users through sudo but you should be able to chroot to your ubuntu partition then adduser/usermod/whatever or just modify sudoers directly from android to allow guests, boot into it, login, add a normal user etc.. then remove guest from sudoers.
I'm sure there's other ways to do it, just nothing "clean" per say like a single user mode or a rescue mode.

[Q] Mac spoofing

How do I spoof a mac address on my OnePlus One?
It seems to be impossible. The usual apps fail and so does a manual ifconfig shell.
Anyone got a clue on this? Help would be really appreciated.
Same problem
I need to spoof MAC adress on my OPO, i've tired all the apps but everytime the MAC seems changed succesfully but when i try to connect to my router, the phone have issues to autenticate. My router has only a wpa, and in the android WIFI menu i see: "saved" on the connection.

SOLUTION!!
Ok, i've been searching for month how to spoof MAC address on our device, but anybody helped me.
So i've tried all possible steps to change the MAC address and finally i've done it!
Here's the procedure i've followed:
1. (Requirements) Have a rooted device. (i don't know if busybox is required but in doubt, install it)
2. Install a file manager (Root explorer reccomended)
3. Go in settings, wifi, tap the three point at bottom right, advanced, and disable "scanning always avaible"
4. Open Root Explorer and go in this directory: /sys/devices/fb000000.qcom.wcnss-wlan and you'll find a file called: "wcnss_mac_addr"
5. Open "wcnss_mac_addr" with text editor
6. you'll see only your current MAC address. You can just edit it (edit only last digit recomended) and Save changes.
7. Disable and re-enable Wifi, and you've just edited your MAC address! Enjoy
Important: The Mac address will restore as default everytime you reboot your phone.
sorry for the basic english because i'm italian, if you have any question please ask me.
I hope i've helped you.
