Hi, this is my first post and I have looked for the answer but not been able to find it.
I have two questions on the same topic. I have HTC Sensation EU Vodafone running stock ICS.
1) I am half way through rooting my phone with the Hasoon2000's All in one One X rooting kit. More info at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632553
I unlocked Bootloader sucesfully using HTC DEV and then installed clockwork mod like it says in the tutorial. However, the link to the SUperUser ZIP Package is broken so I don't know where to go from here. I have looked around for it but wasn't sure which one to install as I didn't want to take any risks of bricking my phone. Has anyone got the link to one for my phone?
2) Also, I am wondering how to UNflash clockwork mod incase something goes wrong and I want to change my mind about rooting. This is probably simple but I couldn't find the answer anywhere for the sensation. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks!

1)see from this guide only step 4A
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861

Thanks!

This is really helpful and a very fast reply! Thanks!
However, I have looked into it and this is great but it isn't actually the SuperUser Zip Package. I know that it is the equivalent but it isn't quite what I was looking for. Sorry. Great answer though.
Also, have you got a link to any ruu.exe for the Sensation because I don't want to use the wrong thing as it might possibly be a very expensive mistake... Thanks!
For more information about installing RUU's just have a look in HERE
edit: Actually you can use the link rzr86 gave you. It does contain the superuser and also busybox. You can flash that and you will be rooted! Good luck!
But...?

I looked into it though and it includes a ROM aswell. I know its pretty much the same as the stock one but I don't really want to change my ROM. Sorry for being awkward.
It doesn't include a rom! It is just going to root your device. Anyway! Have a look at THIS then. It's kgs1992 All in One tool kit.
Sorry!!!

I tryed that download but it wouldn't work when I used it and unless I can suddenly find the superuser zip, I think I will just do the ruu.exe thing. I really don't have a clue where to find one though so can you PLEASE give me a link to one. (Im a complete NOOB!)
Also, if I use the Android Revolution thing, can I get back to stock ROM because I made a backup from Clockwork mod (just clicked backup and restore)?
Always make a nandroid backup through your recovery. Yes if you want to go back just select Restore. For the right RUU, read the thread I posted before and there will be some links you can download the right one for your device in step "2.4 To find your RUU". But before you do anything READ it carefully!

YAY! My phone is now rooted! You are epic. Thanks. And to the other guy. The only reason that I kept thinking it was a Rom is because the folder was called Android Revolution. Sorry! I looked into the contents and found that there was only the rooting stuff. SOLVED!:good::good::good:

How exactly does one upgrade the CWM from 3.1.0.1 to 4.x.x.x?
I am trying to install Petes 2.3.5 and I keep getting an error Status 7, I read in that thread that I would need to update my CWM to the newer version. I do the install of CWM from the app, but its the same version. I even downloaded the image file from the CWM website (not that I would know how to install that anyway) but that version is 3.1.0.1 as well. I am kind of at a lost here. Any tips would be highlly appreciated.
1) Download the image file (4.0.0.2 I'm assuming you want, it's in the dev section).
2) Boot your phone to the bootloader
3) fastboot flash recovery imagename.img

I appreciate the quick response, but I am a noob, just now getting comfortable with ROMs and what not. Is there a way you can give me a better step by step guide, or point me to a thread that already has one (Im sure there is one, although I searched already to come up empty handed). Thanks so much.
Those pretty much ARE the steps. You need a very basic knowledge on how to use adb (to reboot into bootloader, its the easiest way) and having a general understanding of how to use DOS commands on a PC helps too. I would reccomend reading this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078213
PM me if you need more help, I might be able to just take care of it for you remotely... it just might be easier then trying to explain it in every detailed step

Does it matter which color I get? I mean the numbers underneath (7322dce6d591199434572dae1d55be6a) Do I need to match that to anything on my phone?

It's actually a very easy process. All you have to do is follow simple directions. It sounds like you may not be ready to root your device. I knew nothing when I started, but jumped in head first and came out the other side better.
Just check the stickies in the dev section its almost noob proof honestly. And its pretty hard to brick this device if you follow directions.
Maybe if I tell you the main steps it may make more sense.
First, use revolutionary or HTC unlock to get the right bootloader. Revolutionary actually flashes recovery for you too.
Second, flash recovery... Either use revolutionary or use adb (theres tons of guides)
Third, either root the stock Rom by flashing su in recovery (you can get the correct file from Rom manager) OR just flash a custom Rom and they come rooted.
Of course each step has a few steps involved but really nothing a small bit of research can't fix.
Sorry if I sound a bit like a jerk but it really is kinda easy.... Intimidating at first but easy.

Question about recovery. I have come from the HD2 to the sensation. The CWM on the HD2 was quite advanced. They had re-arranged the Yes No menu options to have one Yes and one No. For example do you want to install upgrade zip file. If you selected it, Rather than scrolling through all the no's to get to yes, you had yes first then no.
It is one thing I find annoying with CWM for the sensation and was wondering is there an update, or could a CWM from the HD2 be used on the sensation?

Personally I don't use cwm anymore. I use 4ext touch recovery and its amazing, not a single problem yet. It's so cool to use the touchscreen in recovery. Also twrp v.1 fixed that repetitive yes and no problem too. But no there isn't any way to change that in cwm right now.

Don't know what you are disappointed about. S-OFF stands for security being off. This may sound bad, but from a developer perspective, it's pretty good. If you have true S-OFF like you claim you do, you can flash ROMs, kernels, radios, etc... in a recovery with no issues at all; regardless of what hboot or custom recovery you have. Unlocked means that you can flash custom recoveries and such using fastboot, which is what you want. To sum it up, S-OFF is good; many devs are trying to get S-OFF, but NONE can figure it out. Just be happy about it.
Having this 'Unlocked' text is what you're going to get if you root/unlock the phone. No way to get around it. If you want to return to complete stock settings and re-lock, your best bet is to be on stock recovery and flash an RUU that corresponds to your network. You may also want to try 'fastboot oem lock'.

Oh sweet jesus you're lucky as hell.
Never ever ever sell your phone, because you got your hands on a developer one or just a phone that slipped through the cracks, because you have full S-OFF.
You should be able to flash ROMs in recovery without going to fastboot to ever flash a kernel, if the ROM is set up for it.
You would do better to change thread title...

I'm thinking about romming an HTC One X for Rogers and I've tried looking up information about installing custom roms. I know I need to unlock the bootloader first and that TWRP is likely the easiest method in order to rom. But I've read some conflicting things. Does it matter which version of the software I have? There just seems to be multiple guides.
Would this guide work?

You can root and unlock 1.94 then flash recovery and rom fine.
Rogers HTC One X can be unlocked through the HTCdev site. Once the bootloader is unlocked you can install TWRP and flash any evita rom you want.

So I was able to unlock the bootloader. To install TWRP I installed GooManager and Installed "OpenRecoveryScript".
When I try to reboot the phone into recovery, nothing happens.
Is there a guide how to use TWRP. Most of the guides seem pretty basic, but I don't even know if I have it installed properly. I'm trying to install ViperX

hey! that's my guide! haha, glad to see my first real contribution be somewhat of a success.
As long as it's in the root directory (not in a folder) of the internal SDcard, you'll be fine. Also, make sure you make a backup of your stock ROM just in case you need to go back to it.
Another thing, copy down your APN settings (word by word) from your stock ROM. Not sure if Rogers is the same as Telus, but Telus needs two APNs to get LTE enabled. If you could PM those to me as well, I could add them to my guide as well. Thanks.

So if you would like toto back up your apps than yes u can use titanium but yes make a back up sounds like u already did of your stock rom ...download viper 2.00 put it on your SD where you'll remember. To find it ... Once in twrp hit wipe menu ...wipe system ..factory reset ...and wipe dalvic cache than go back to the home menu in twrp and click install and find viper and this is very important since you wiped system you'll see in viper menu flash stock kernel or install rom ...hit install rom and go from there if you don't you'll be stuck. At. HTC dev screen and have to get back into recovery

One last important thing in case u didn't know
If you're ever stuck in bootloop this will do the trick to get into bootloader and back to recovery
Turn on, hold power 10-15 seconds, until screen goes black, let off, press n hold volume down, press power just 2-3 seconds, let off power button but continue holding vol. Down
LoL wow, already done. Using the rom now.
Wow, that was easy. Not sure if I should have checked some of the options (like one to enable exchange mail, and another for better sound). But it was so easy I guess I can always just redo it.
Was starting to think rooting maybe wasn't worth it (last root I did was on the original Nexus). Just going through all the features on ViperX, I'm glad I did.

There have to be other small differences too, no? Screens or something, right?
First thing OP needs to do is check the build version. That will determine if you can run the aahk straight or if you need to unlock with htcdev first, flash insecure boot, downgrade, then root...

The Hack Kit can always be used, he has to find what kinda preparation needs to be done for it to work.
Desire HD and Inspire and similar, DHD is the European version, and therefore the different frequencies, the rest are just the same. Even radios can be shared.

Post 7 has a PDF guide. That includes any instructions you want. And no, you can't run AAHK on an unlocked bootloader.

AAHK was retired a few days ago. The only option now is bootloader unlock, unless someone else comes up with a similar tool.
What do you mean AAHK is retired? is it not supported anymore? am i not able to root and flash a custom rom on my phone now?

It's neither available nor supported; the server hosting all the files it needs is no longer up. Like I said, the only option to root now is boot loader unlock.

Root and S-OFF are different things. Root means that you have administrator permissions at the rom level, so you can set different permissions in the rom. But, you can not flash all kinda stuff such as radios.
Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash CWM recovery and custom roms, but again not radios or boot images in recovery (you have to do it manually). As long as there is no other tool to gain S-OFF, unlocking the bootloader is the best choice.

I obtained AAHK literally the day before he retired it. I read everything thoroughly and it went off great with no problems. I think I might have been one of the last people to get S-OFF on this phone before he retired it. The only thing I can tell you is you might be able to google for ace advanced hack kit. I know you can find the blog this way, and you may be able to find the kit somewhere else to download. If you do happen to find the download somewhere, read EVERYTHING on the blog. If you read for comprehension and follow directions carefully, you can root and s-off without bricking. I did it first try no problems. Now I'm running Energy ROM for Sense 3.5 and love it.

I do not recommend trying to download AAHK and run it. You will probably get stuck in the middle. AAHK downloaded files from its servers during the process. That server is now down.

Now, you need to unlock the bootloader with HTCDEV, flash a recovery like CWM, and either: flash a rooted ROM, or a su binary and a superuser app.
In the past when AAHK was around it was a much better option (gave S-Off) than bootloader unlock, which is probably why you see people saying not to use bootloader unlock. Now that AAHK is gone, unless/until glevitan makes his S-Off tool, bootloader unlock is the only option.

In post #7 of the thread linked in my signature, glevitan has a beginner's guide that includes instructions on bootloader unlock and root. There are also many threads strewn around the HTC Desire HD forums detailing how to do it step by step. (Note: DHD is essentially the same phone as the Inspire 4G; you can use their ROMs and their instructions, though I would be careful about their radios.)
