Customizing Features of A custom ROM - General Questions and Answers

I am using a JellyMod Custom ROM for (Samsung Galaxy Pocket)SGP - i just want to know how to get nack my stock keyboard on SMS... Thanks in advance.

Hey,
How about just clearly listing the basics.
What phone you are using on what version. Maybe try and use a device or ROM specific place.
Maybe what KIND of keyboards you like.
Stuff like that.
And by stock keyboard. Do you mean stock android. Or stock overlay.

What i mean by stock is the Default Samsung Galaxy Pocket Keyboard (Gingerbread)
BTW... thanks for your response

Hey Again,
Sorry for the delay.
Its good that you actually appreciate help.
I didn't reply sooner because I was racking my mind and the internet for something like that.
No luck yet.
When I do get something I will definitely come back and reply.
Sorry about that friend.
The only way you could do this is by editing the keyboard with your ROM to look more like the one you want.
But you will need photoshop skills, extension skills and maybe some coding skills depending on the ROM engineering.

photoshop skills, extension skills and maybe some coding skills depending on the ROM engineering is not a problem with me but what i need is time haha i am busy with my outstanding projects as of the moment. Thanks again

Well that's great then.
What I would have said is start on the keyboard image files and retouch it to suit your liking.

dev's help in getting MT

guys this is not a question, this is a "plea" for some help...
if one of the great dev's out there would be kind enough to enable multitouch on this rom http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1701190/kb7sqi-magic-full-V2.7.2.zip
i, and many others who use this rom, would really appreciate it
ps: i did pm the dev who cooked it, but he didn't answer, so i thought i take my chances elsewhere..
what ROM is this??
my bad..
its a rogers rom that comes with a flash player enabled browser and other sweets that come with a rogers rom, such as the smart dialer, apart of course from being lightweight, which makes it run smoothly on my 32b G1
more details can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567371
come on guys..is this really too much to ask?

patience. devs do this voluntarily at their own time. demanding for features won't really get you anywhere. Especially with 2.1 AOSP being out there now, i'm sure there's a lot already going for them.
Try this: http://lukehutch.wordpress.com/2009/01/25/get-multi-touch-support-on-your-t-mobile-g1-today/
Don't know if it works for your rom since it's originaly made for 1.1, lol.
Thanks for the tips guys..
Unfortunately the above link suggests installing a different rom to get a mt enabled kernel.
Sorry if i sounded pushy. Didn't mean to...
I was just wondering what it takes to apply the mt patch to the kernel thats all
I think you can't just install multitouch on a rom because it needs to be in the kernel. So or you wait the rom builder of your rom includes it in his rom, or you need to try another rom.
what base firmware is this ROM using?
i dont have time to research it
Its cupcake 1.5
kingklick,
just wanted to say that its really nice of you to show interest in helping others.. you must be a really nice guy
thank you
just checking..
i feel like a little kid askin' for candy here...but i don't care
kingclick, was you inquiring about the base firmware here an indication that you'll help out? i really hope so...
You wont find someone to do this. You've cluttered the developers thread with your groveling. You should read up on the methods and do it yourself. Plus, then you could do a lot of extra goodies. If you want something done, do it.

you mean learn java and android programming, and in a few months, or maybe a year, i'll be able to do it all myself... sounds like a great idea..
but here's a better one,
in this world we live in, there are specialized and professional people, each in their own field, so when someone "like you or me" need something that is not in our ability or specialty, we seek a professional...
i don't mean to be rude, but this could easily be compared to learning dentistry to do your own tooth...
haven't you asked for any help from anyone in your life?
If you really want MT in browser why not use dolphin or one of the alternate browsers in the market?
mt is missing in the rom itself, the patches were not applied..

Hi I too am impatient to know how to install this marvel
That is sick! I want that on my phone.. but I don't understand **** on that site lol.
It would be used by building it into the code of an app, such as a photo viewer, or a browser... it's not a system level control.. as far as I know any way!!
Just use dolphin browser, long press and slide up zooms in...

If you want assistance, I would not post comments like that, it not only makes the poster look stupid but it makes you look arrogant.
Rather than relying on other people do the work for you, why dont you follow the tutorial that you so kindly posted and do the hard work yourself.
I think it has to be built within an app. I want this function as well so what I'm doing is trying to edit the existing mediascape code rather than build a new app

I was offering you an alternative instead of waiting for someone to hold your hand and walk you through how to build it into an app. Sine by reading your posts it's apparent that you either don't have a clue (you have a nice guide posted already) or don't want to put the work in on it. Good luck with your project, might get more help if you remove the attitude from your posts.

I think that only the kernel source was released, not application sources, well at least not SE's - which includes mediascape.
If they were released, then SE would have no differentiator, at least software-wise, for their phones, as any single person or manufacturer would be able to compile the applications, and add them to their own roms.

[Q] G2x Desktop UAstring (framework-res.apk)

I'm so fed up with roms on the g2x but ok lets get beyond that...
I've noticed some builds don't have the user agent string baked into the browser so you have to use the about:debug method which does not hold nor work properly.
I'm wondering if there's any other file i can edit to work around this...framework file by chance? Help appreciated
Why not just try a different Browser.apk?
have grabbed browser apk's from multiple builds that have the option and it working, fixed permissions and such and replaced the file but upon opening they all force close

Then you build and compile your own custom rom that has all the features you want/need in it. People should be thankful for whatever custom work has been done on the phone. Since the roms were developed at no cost to you, and you have a choice whether you want to use it or not; you don't really have the right to be "fed up" with the roms out there.

[Q] Porting ICS from the Vibrant

Hi Guys
Looks like there's a pretty good ICS port for the Vibrant.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362961
Has anyone attempted to port this thing to the SGS4G? I read the guide on how to do it and it doesn't sound like there's a ton of work, since you only have to compile one file.

I just realized that was my 1000th post. Good thing it was a joke.
I read a lot, and talk a little, so my perspectives are often skewed.
That being said, it AMAZES me how often think "just compiling one file" is so simple. Really? Just sending one monkey to mars should be easy too...start flapping your arms, and I'll meet you there.
The point being? The tools aren't there yet, and anyone who utilizes the amazing superpower of literacy knows that.

Did you read the porting guide? Pretty sure the JDK and the other tools the author specified can do the job. Specifically decompiling, hex editing and recompiling. I used the amazing superpower of literacy to read that, btw.

Well, there is this fancy 'search' tool in the upper right coner of the web page.
This conversation has been going on for quite some time.
You sure could port the rom, but the kernel for the sgs4g will not work... yet.
The other problem is that it would be better to have the source for the rom then to just mod the vibrant rom. Reason being is that if we have the source we can use normal debugging tools to find and solve the issues, instead of trying to reverse engineer open source software... which just seem silly to me.
I just got my "bryan fun pack" from sparkfun today, which is what I've been waiting for to get moving on cm7 and u-boot for our phone. Please hold...

Rom dev

So I am making a rom. It's written in C++, CSS, and HTML. I need a bit of help, my CSS is rusty so if there's any experts out there I welcome your help. If there's any designers out there well versed in C++ you are more than welcome to join on up. I hope to have a working prototype in the next few days, let's make this the best rom for the OnePlus One there is!
have you tried turning it off and on again?
I am confused. What am I turning off and on again? I just want to make a good rom for this community. I am just asking for help. Please, no jokes. Serious replies only.
I think that there already enough roms from experienced devs... You want to make a rom but don't have the knowledge.

Why discourage someone like that? You don't know him or what he's capable of. What if someone had said that to the developer of your favourite ROM when he was starting out and he listened? XDA is a place to encourage development, and a place to encourage people who want to learn how to build ROMs. There can never be too many ROMs available, and there can never be too many people/devs working on them. This guy could be the next big thing in the ROM community and all you want to do is shut him down. Unless you're going to contribute in a positive way, maybe don't post.

I'm just thinking that he is underestimating the job... He has 3 posts, needs people to do the majority of the job. Just my 2 cents.
But from now on only positive words, apparently negative is not allowed. Good to know...

Umm... Building a ROM is kinda different. You don't exactly have to write all the code yourself (that would take a few lifetimes ). You have to use existing stuff, and patch it together the way you like. You can change the coding style and stuff to the way you want. The CM development page would be a great idea to start with getting familiar with all the stuff.
Xavierdarkness, your enthusiasm is awesome. I'm pretty sure your rusty CSS skills are okay though, but you should really pick up some ActionScript if you intend on making the best ROM.
Dude, write it in machine language....that would be the tits
Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. It means a lot. I hope to draw on my existing knowledge of QBASIC, VB 6, and HTML to help me on this journey. I'll likely have something up in the next few days if anyone would like to check over my QBASIC to make sure I am getting the API right with android. Thanks again, I'll read all the links you guys have provided and will update this periodically.

there ya go, way to show some support. never enough roms, but always to many self important people
A new team inside XDA of developers will be a good news.
Perhaps learn must be encouraged and I hate people say that there are too many roms... This is not a marketplace but a place for developers.
