So, if i could get a Ativ dump or some other things from it, is there any chance a dev could port WP8 to the GS3? Knowing they have identitical hardware it doesnt seem impossible, but i have absolutely no idea for sure.
Maybe , id love to get a hands on a dump , to see what would be needed

to each their own, i hate windows phone and that metro UI. id rather see an open webos port.
I hate windows 8 on desktops/laptops and don't particularly care for it on phones but I have to admit I would love to see it ported to pur phones so we could mess around with it! I would live a webos port too, but I think windows 8 would be a little neater.

Windows being closed source I am guessing they can sue if it were to run on another phone.
Jelly Bean is better anyway...
I would think a port from the Ativ Odyssey for Verizon would be the best bet. (It's supposedly the same thing as the Ativ S but for Verizon).

That would probably be the hardest project ever. I thought they were extremely closed source. Like it's hard to even hack it the phones themselves.

Ok, guys, it won't happen. If you have the skill to do it yourself, for yourself only good. As soon as you post it to these forums, you will probably be banned, probably get a c&d from Microsoft, and possibly a lawsuit. You best bet is having a mod close this thread right now.

Just because it's not open sourced doesn't mean it can't be hacked. Apple is a perfect example of that.
It's just a matter of developers actually wanting to hack it. I don't see us reaping any benefit from it other then getting to toy around with it for a few minutes..

The fact that no one has been able to even "jailbreak" a Windows phone makes me think this is highly unlikely. And the token system of unlocking they had does not count. That wasn't actually a hack.

I don't think this is impossible at all. It won't be official or legal, but as Android was put on iPhones, I think the opposite is perfectly possible. One blog I read today even implied the possibility of the Apple A5 being the same processor as the A9 in the xoom, but I really don't know how correct that is.
The problem is that I don't see anyone bothering to do this, but I wish they would. It would be awesome to have access to some iOS-exclusive apps.
I dont think Apple would have any problems with this at all.

the A9 processor you're referring to is the Cortex-A9 processor, which is used for all dual core processors. all the new high end phones you see now are powered by ARM Cortex-A9 processor (including iP4, Atrix, Bionic, etc)
On top of the Cortex-A9 lies the SoC chip,
The A5 is an SoC developed by (intrinsity, samsung, apple)
The Tegra 2 is an SoC developed by NVIDIA
Hope that clears things up.

And how, if I may ask?
The developer would need iOS source to start with. How about rewriting drivers, functions etc?
Android can be used on iOS devices but it doesn't mean the opposite could be possible.. The OSes are just so diffrent
..but yeah, it'd be cool to have a device open to ALL platforms and usable with them.
Maybe someday VMware can do this

I agree that the iOS has its good points. But for full functionality of your own phone you have to jailbreak it. How is that different than rooting your android? I have had an iPhone 3Gs and 4 and neither of them have come close to offering me all that I can have and do with my Infuse. And guess what that's my opinion, it works for me and my needs. Am I putting the iPhones down? Not really, if you want to drive an off the showroom floor mid grade model that comes with a stock package that is as you buy it then go for it. Personally I prefer to know how my device works at its core as well as be able to modify that as I see fit, but again that's me. I will not buy another iOS device until they allow the freedom I have with my android. I own both Mac and Win machines and an Ubuntu and a Slackware machine so I'm not pro or anti apple I get a device that fits my needs. If you need an iPhone go for it but what's the point of spreading negativity in a forum where the iPhone is not the focus.

With the announcement of webOS moving to a open source platform, am I the only one wishing for a port of webOS to the Charges' hardware? Sure its not the most powerful phone or neither does it have the strongest developer base, but I'm still hoping for it one day. This is coming from a person who had a Palm Pre Plus prior to my D'Charge, so therefore I'm very familiar with the way webOS works and I still today miss it the fluidity of the platform. So let me know, am I alone?
In theory, I suppose it could be done, as WebOS is also Linux based. However, it would take a LOT of work-I think the time put into such a project would not equal the number of people who would want to use it.

In all honesty I would like to see ICS before I would like to see WebOS, but I feel like these ports would be coming from different teams. From one corner their will be developers working to get ICS to all non-nexus devices and in the other corner their will be people working to get WebOS on android devices and once its done here it will be picked up by other developers and tweaked to work on the particular device they're developing for.

WebOS is going to be outdated soon.
I've been following B2G or as it's now called FireFox OS, for several months. Definitely looks interesting, especially the concept and UI. Did some digging and haven't seen anything about it in our forums yet, so thought I'd get one started.
So far it looks like only a handful of phones have any form of a port of the current version, and I haven't really seen any fully working. Definitely not expecting someone to "jump on it". Mostly just curious s to what people think about it, as well as if they'd consider using or switching to it if it ever became available on our Skyrockets.
For those that don't know what it is, here are a few links:

Agreed, except I don't use Firefox at all. I'm 100% Opera. I'm just always intrigued by the possibility of a new mobile OS.
Any news for us yet? Will we get it? I hope so!!
Are there any phones that come with Firefox OS standard? I heard about this a while ago, but I don't remember it getting much traction.
Any update to anyone working on B2G? The last time we tried, we didn't have a stable ICS, so I'm thinking it might be easier this time around if it's tried again?
Sent from my 5" Retina XT iPhone running iOS 7
I think the main thing to consider is that the os is built using css and html5. It opens up new possibilities as far as hardware and software can communicate, this is particularly important for battery life as these concepts are developed and implemented into current devices. While I agree i don't use Firefox on android, much prefer dolphin, and I typically don't use Firefox on the pc, chrome kind of guy, that doesn't close me off from new developments. Nobody is asking you to use it, that's why manufacturers aren't shipping Firefox os phones.
On another note, I hard bricked my i9100 flashing b2g (pre Firefox os) because the Odin flash was taking 30+ minutes so I assumed something was wrong and yanked the usb cable during the repartition phase of the flash. Usb jig wouldn't work, never did send it for jtag. If I do however, I'll try it again hahaha :screwy:

Good point, however Rome wasn't built in a day, we're finally at the front lines of operating system development, which is a great step forward compared to the traditional model of "here's what we got for you" style of os development. So while you have a valid concern, it's welcomed and I'm confident it's noted somewhere. The key here is to remain consistent with constructive criticism, which if approached in the wrong way is seen as useless *****ing.

Are you implying that I am *****ing?
My only point is, while FirefoxOS is a very cool idea. as Google has seen with Android, security is a big concern as they rushed Wallet to the masses and then had to retract it on most carriers/devices. That has left a lasting impression that Google knows Search but not security.
I understand FirefoxOS is in it's infancy and that is why they need to address security now, not later or it will have a difficult time coming to the masses.

apple's iPhone is in many ways a great phone BUT....
WHY they luck the interface customization?
WHY they don't allow file sharing on Bluetooth?
i just don't get it. what is the advantage of not allowing these things? because these things are available in phones from 10 years ago, so it's not technology limitation. it's the company policy FOR WHAT?
Because it's apple.. they're selfish and think they are the best in everything.

They want the user experience to be as close to perfect as possible so things that might not work flawlessly are disabled for the user. That's why people say iPhones "just work"
