[DISCUSSION] Windows RT on Android - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

AS OF 11/02/2012 THERE IS NOTHING ON THIS YET. THIS IS JUST TO TALK ABOUT IT.
Well this topic has bound to come up as soon as it was announced Running Windows RT on Android devices.
What boundaries are there?
Limitations?
The first thing that comes to mind (obvious but....) are drivers. Can someone confirm that Windows RT supports mobile radios?

Yup, its supports mobile radios.....
Something related would be WP8 drivers on WRT...........

whats keeping us from just pulling the software and burning it as a bin to a usb drive then booting it on an android

Hi guys!
As you, I'm trying to port Windows RT to Android.
There are good possibilities, but I haven't got a ISO of Windows RT and a Android tablet .
I hope to find a iso as soon as possible.
Ciao, Marocco2

Hey, what are you talking about?? Windows RT isn't in ISO form. because it is a flashable OS, it's not like Windows 8 or any other desktop OS, but like Windows Phone or Windows Mobile. Maybe flashing WinRT to system with Linux can be possible later, but not now.

Uh?.. I'm thinking no, the ARMv7 Processor was not designed to run intel based operating systems.
short answer: no
Operating systems require drivers. This is the same reason when you install linux on a computer you have to go searching for those pesky Broadcom drivers so your wireless works. There has been some progress in porting a whole operating system to a device not intended for it (Android on HD2 is the furthest progressed as far as I know), and there are some ROM's/launchers to bring the WP7 experience to Android.
if you're talking about Windows 7 i'd say no way! even with the announcement of Windows 8 running on ARM....
Ok thanks.
Ya if your looking for the layout or widget stylings check out "7 widgets Home Plus", plus one of my coworkers just bought a windows 7 phone and has had 3 viruses in 1 week. I am by no means an anti windows person...just not the best mobile enviroment as they have proved time and time again...
Windows can not run on ARM processors as the code is not made for it. That's why you see x86 and x64 editions of Windows, it only supports those processors.
However, Windows 8 promises ARM support as well as increased tablet usability, but its Microsoft, so who knows.
You don't really need Windows anyways.

I need help from an expert.

How can i get windows rt on my android tablet. I have been searching around and keep coming up with this answer, " Windows 8 can't run on an android tablet because it is designed for x64/x86 devices, not arm based devices." Obviously those other people did not read my question properly or they just haven't done their research on the windows rt. I am asking about windows rt, which was designed to run on arm based devices. So theoretically you could switch from android to windows as long as you are comfortable with the limitations of windows rt. My problem is that i don't know where to get windows rt let alone install it onto my tablet. Anyone know how? If not Are there any custom roms that are designed to function like a windows tablet?

[Q] Windows 10 Mobile on Windows RT devices?

So, Windows RT is dead. There is scheduled Update 3 in September, but it will only feature minor changes. It was also confirmed that Windows 10 Universal Apps will not run on RT Update 3. So, pretty much the same situation as Windows Phone 7(.8).
The question is simple. Could Windows 10 Mobile be ported to Windows RT devices? I know WP8 on WP7 was not possible because of lack of drivers, but this was largely due change of kernel (NT instead of CE). Windows 10 are based on NT kernel as well as Windows 10 Mobile, so it should theoretically work. What is your opinion?
WP8 is based on NT too. WP8 and W10M can be run on Surface RT, but only after unlock Secure Boot. Just wait Jailbreak for W8.1RT
I kind of have to agree with Dj_Art. If we can get a jailbreak that works with Windows RT 8.1 Update 3 that would be the best case scenario for RT devices.
Since Microsoft isn't supporting Windows Mobile on 10" devices at this time it's hard to tell what kind of experience it would provide on an RT device. That's assuming it is even possible to get it to install and boot, which is subject I don't have much knowledge of. I have heard that many Windows 8 drivers work in Windows 10, so it would stand to reason that perhaps the drivers for RT devices might be compatible with Windows 10 Mobile on a theoretical level. That's about all I can say on that.
I have a feeling that since that update is coming out the people working on the 8.1 jailbreak (that works just not released) will be witholding until the update in September is released
any updates on this ..
Never mind...

wait as my Surface is in warranty service
So, any updates on the progress of this?
There is this software called Neverware / CloudReady. It is basically Chrome OS for lower end devices. Can we get this installed on there somehow?

There is some bad news trying to create my own image. I created my packages, the HAL extensions are showing in the FFU, but the HAL extension isn't detected at boot, returning an HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED error.
I m waiting, or can we help?

How about you create an image for the Lumia 2520? Wouldn't it be easier to test?
Is there a chance to boot it to the "Continuum" Desktop too?
I think especially 10240 would be interesting, because people could use win10 Apps & Android Apps and the ROM for multiple devices (Lumia 930 / 1520 -> both have the same chipset as the Lumia 2520) leaked.
Any news?
Had a asus winrt tab here and "need" a win 10 (mobile) update ....

surface rt jailbreaking

When I try to jailbreak my surface rt it can't find the registry key. Please helppp!!!
Uh, what? What do you mean by "jailbreaking" in this context?
In any case, the ARM-based Surface RT family of tablets cannot currently be jailbroken in any way, shape or form. You're stuck with the Windows operating system and Microsoft's application store. If you want a device where you can install a different OS, such as Android or Ubuntu, get a Surface Pro instead.
Sorry to bump in here... But I figured out how to get a shell (cmd) as SYSTEM user on Windows RT. And now I would like to know if anyone knows whether this helps in making the device dualbooting with Ubuntu (or single boot with ubuntu) *sigh*
EDIT: I just didn't want to start a new thread...

Windows Surface RT 8.1 general questions

Hi all,
Just bought a Windows Surface RT 8.1 off of someone thinking I could use this as a regular Windows PC. That was a mistake lol. I've been trying to figure out what the current state of jailbreaking/running x86 apps is since most of the jailbreaking articles and info is from 2013.
I was able to do this https://forum.xda-developers.com/wi...ent/windows-8-1-rt-jailbreak-exploit-t3226835
and boot into Test Mode. Does this allow for running ARM compiled apps?
Thanks.
